iOS deals begin -- App Store freeze coming Thursday
Calendar16 Wed, 21 Dec 2011 06:00:00 UTC +00:00
And so it begins -- the App Store has its busiest time of the year over the Christmas holiday, when iPhones and iPads and iTunes gift cards are unwrapped under the Christmas tree, and millions of people take to the App Store to pick up some great apps. There are lots of sales coming out this week. We'll have more posts each day, and stay tuned to our Twitter account for even more. That's just the beginning -- stay tuned all through the week for more deals on lots of different apps and games around the App Store. Everything will likely be sorted by Thursday (as that's when developers become unable to make any more price or app changes), but before then, we'll see lots and lots of apps on sale, no doubt. Can Your iPhone Keep a Secret? Password Managers Compared
Calendar16 Thu, 05 May 2011 22:00:46 UTC +00:00
In light of recent events regarding the security of online password managers, it’s worth a look at some of the alternatives out there, and the advantages and disadvantages of each. I’ve been using password managers on devices I carry around with me for almost 10 years now. When the first iPhone came out, I remember wanting one, but the reason I did not get one was because there were no third-party apps. I was a long-time Palm owner and had a Treo 650 running SplashID. I have well over three hundred accounts, combinations, locks, and little secret bits of information to manage. So I was excited when I saw that Apple was going to support third-party apps. SplashID couldn’t keep up with the times (it was slow to offer sync and multitasking support was not up to par). But what password manager to switch to?  I turned to an App Store search technique Read More

1Password Pro Goes Universal In v3.0, Gets A Price Hike
Calendar16 Tue, 06 Apr 2010 14:51:50 UTC +00:00
Just as promised, Agile Web Solutions has released a free update to 1Password Pro, which gives the app a brand new iPad-optimized interface. 1Password Pro v3.0 doesn’t sport any new features, just a new iPad interface, so if you don’t own an iPad you shouldn’t be in too big of a hurry to download the new version.  But even if that’s the case, you have to admit it’s nice to see a developer taking the high road and not charging its customers twice. Agile Web Solutions will eventually be adding more features to 1Password Pro, such as wireless sync via MobileMe and WebDav, as well as Favorites for easy access to frequently used items, but they want to work out the iPad kinks before heading in that direction.  These new features should help justify the app’s new price of $14.99, up from $8.99. If you never intend on owning an iPhone Read More
iPad apps: 1Password, Dragon Dictation & Tap Tap Radiation
Calendar16 Sat, 03 Apr 2010 12:13:05 UTC +00:00
Having reached a near overload status of iPad apps that have come available over the course of the past few days I wanted to try and avoid and individual post for each. Of course, the Kindle app was granted an exception, but moving forward there are a few that I still felt were worth mentioning. First up is 1Password (App Store link), and the good news here is short and sweet. Those who already have the iPhone version will be getting a free upgrade to the iPad version. And for those that have not purchased the app, the iPad version will be selling for $6.99. Which coincidentally is the same price as 1Password for the iPhone. On the other hand, 1Password Pro for the iPhone is slightly higher priced at $8.99. Next up is Dragon Dictation (App Store link), and that is a free app. Similar to the iPhone version of Read More

Great app, don't buy if you own 1Password Pro for iPhone
BenD828 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
1Password Pro for the iPhone will soon be getting updated to be a universal app. Only buy this app if you own the regular 1Password for the iPhone or don't own an iPhone/iPod Touch.
Indispensable on Mac, Just Okay on iPad
TucsonDude 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
I've used 1Password on Mac for years. It's possible the best utility around, on any platform. The iPad version is getting better,9 but it's still not quite ready for primetime. Still no go-and-fill function (it's there, just doesn't work). This should have been more thoroughly tested before its fee-based release.
Pretty useless
jtrivedi 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
Unless you have thirty different passwords for two hundred logins, for $7, this app honestly doesn't do much. Don't get me wrong, i love 1Password for Mac, because it puts a little plugin in Safari that auto logs you in. But 1Password for iPad inherently can't make system changes that; Apple doesn't allow it. So basically, this is a seven dollar notepad behind another password to view your passwords.
tofuracer
tofuracer 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
Buggy. Repeatedly locked me out in the midst of typing. All entries actually completed vanished until I closed and restarted this app.
Prevents ME from getting to my passwords.
Ran212 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
Don't waste your time and money until this app is fixed. Unstable...REPEATEDLY LOCKS ME OUT OF THE APP IN THE MIDDLE OF DATA ENTRY. Current version is completely USELESS.
Syncing iPad to Mac
Broomall 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Just as an FYI, first create a new database and then go to settings to sync. I tried to sync it straight from the launch screen without creating a new database and was never able to do so.
Leaves something to be desired
JaxIpaduser 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
Not particularly impressive. Hung up on initial sync even after Agile reported shtiks bug was fixed. User interface for logging in is pretty cheesy. Shame it doesn't work as well as on a Mac. Failed to submit login on a couple of sites. Disappointed.
Autofill of Logins not working on iPad version
Nytjunkie 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Like another reviewer, I had trouble syncing my info with my computer, but was finally able to do so. After you appear to have synced on the computer screen, restart 1Password on the iPad and your Data will magically appear. (The instructions are sort of "chicken or egg", I admit.) However, the small circled arrow to the right of the web site name is supposed to take you to Safari and the web site for autofilling of the username and password (as it does on the iPhone and computer). The arrows are "dead" in my case. the app goes nowhere, does nothing. I'm assuming Agile will fix this.
A little rough getting started
Ramatsu 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I can't live without 1Password on my Mac, and it's been a lifesaver on the iPhone when I needed it. I was disappointed to read here that I didn't need to buy the iPad version if I already owned the iPhone version, and wish there had been something in the purchase path experience to tip me off to this. As it is some 1Pass customers are going to pay for this and others are going to get it free, just depending on luck of the draw involving what you've read before coming here. Bad experience. Also, the only clue that there is a sync happening is the small sync progress icon in the iPad status bar. For something as significant as waiting for a sync, the Mac app should present a progress bar, and so should the iPad, to give you some better assurance that something's actually happening.
Disappointed!!
JKruger 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I thought this program looked really good but it won't launch my websites. I would really like to get a refund.
App crashes
Jps190 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
App keeps crashing during startup. For 7 bucks it should work!!
So glad to have this on my iPad
casademike 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
1password is one of my absolute, must have apps. I am so glad they created this iPad version. It was easy to sync with my desktop version and the ui is very nice. My only gripe is that if you just want to look up a password but not use a site from the in app browser, you actually have to click on the edit button to see it. Like the desktop app I should just be able to click on the password dots for a quick preview. Other than that it's a great app to have. In would be totally lost without it.
Buggy and Incomplete
Chrisf2573 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
I bought this application because at the time there were not many options for the iPad and this one had good reviews. I paid for this application and the price was too high for what you get. I would like to tell you about my initial, and experiences since installing the application. I have no previous experience of this product or company I am only stating my experience as a first time user. First let me state that I have used many password applications over the year. This is not my first experience with a password application. I am basing my opinions on my experience as a knowledgeable user. My expectations for a password program would be to have an encrypted data base that allows me to store my passwords in it safely. I would need to enter a password to access my passwords, but once this is done I can get to all of them at the click of the mouse, or in the case of the iPad a touch with the finger. I would also expect to have a password generation utility, or even nicer the ability to select "Generate" from any password field in the application. I should also be able to select the length and type of characters used in the password generated. I should also be able to store other information regarding the UID and Password, like website location ect. These features are common sense features. They are things that should be in any password application. Going a step further, since this is an apple product. It would be nice if the application had an interface with the browser to input the passwords for me. Now this is even more important with the iPad because changing between applications is not as easy as minimizing the window. Let us start with the stability. The application is unstable. It has logged me out in the middle of typing, or making an entry. When this happens it does not remember what you were doing and that information is lost and must be reentered. I have also had a situation where the application has stopped responding. I have also had the situation where the application closed in the background but left the password entry dialog open. After pressing the done button the window closed, but after later going back into 1Password that information entered was lost. Now I am not saying that this program crashes consistently or often, but it will happen at the most inopportune times. Now let's go back to my expectations and see where 1Password for iPad is a hit and a miss. Pro's. The application stores your passwords in what appears to be a safe database. You must enter a password to gain access to them. This is nice. Has a Password Generator with limited settings for creating a password, but appears affective. Some thought was put into organization of the accounts and passwords. There are groupings, or tabs, to help you separate them. Con's Besides the crashes and drops, I also had a situation where my entire password database disappeared after a synch. This was very upsetting because it was my first synch since entering in all the data. I had to start over. There is a backup utility I highly recommend using it as soon as possible. I did loose my database one more time after this and I was able to restore it saving me a lot of time. However, this is not bode very positive for the reliability of the product when you have the potential of losing everything. You cannot select and copy any of the passwords in the application without editing the entry. This is very inconvenient and adds steps to an already lengthy log in on another application, like safari. Password generator is only available on certain screens and should be available on all password fields. It does not connect with Safari or anything else. There should have been at a minimum the option to select a field in safari, wait for a drop down, and have an option available to access 1Password (after of course validating master password). This limitation does make accessing passwords a pain. If you go to a page, you will have to leave Safari, log into 1Password, find the account, chose to edit it, select and copy the password, leave 1Password, go back to safari, and reenter the information at login. If that explanation was long winded and tedious for you, then I have been successful at depicting how I feel trying to get a password from the program. If I was not successful, please read it again and see if it was any better the second time. Another disappointment is that the tabs used for separating the accounts and passwords are very confusing. You are also limited on your selections. For example if you have an account you can only select from the available choices in the application. Otherwise you are better off going to the Accounts section, but this will ask for the Webpage. The program can automatically log you into a site through the application. I know I said before it does not connect to Safari. It does not. It has some sort of internal browser. You do not get access to any of the safari menus, at least i have not seen them. Navigation is a little weird and out of sorts too, because navigation is at the bottom instead of the expected top. I have found no documentation for the application online through the authors website, or through iTunes. There is documentation for the mac version of the application, but the screens are not the same so this offers little help to anyone that cannot interpret and relate the possible links between the applications. For all the limitations, it cost way too much. I have gotten free applications in the past that were far more superior to this application. It would have also been nice to have another version available for the Mac that did not cost you money. Or if you bought the Mac version you get the iPad version for free. This is very disappointing. I still would have liked it much better if at least apply had a keychain app on the iPad as they do in OS10. That would have solved all my problems and would have saved me some trouble and money. I hope that this review was helpful.
Ah, crap...I just bought it
Ignatz97 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
...and I already own every iteration of 1Password, including the Pro version for iPhone. Which, by the way, I've now put on my iPad, because the iPad version is buggy--I haven't been able to use it yet. First it failed to save my password, insisting on using my (very long) desktop pw. Then when I logged in, it had trouble syncing, getting only part of my data. Now when I try to log in, it just quits on me. Every time.
Not Ready for Prime Time (4-15-2010)
No Stinkin' Sync 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
I've been a very satisfied user of 1Password on my Mac for close to a year now, and was excited about the iPad version. Then a couple reviews mentioned it was buggy, so I waited two weeks, in hopes that they would quickly address what I hoped were minor issues. Unfortunately, for me-- and several others if you go to the Agile Solutions website Forum-- it is clear that there are still quite a few bugs in the system. For instance, many of the Help pages offer assistance for the iPhone or iPhone Touch, but no clear instruction to indicate if these same fixes work for the iPad, even though you may have arrived on this Help Page via a link in a prior Agile Solutions page. Secondly, and more critically, in attempting to Sync my iPad with 1Password on my Mac, the instructions say that there will be a SYNC group (like Music, Videos, Playlists, etc. in iTunes) and the name of your device, iPad, should be there. But from what I've read, for some of us (many?) no such group appears where it is supposed to, which makes all the subsequent instructions for Synching impossible. Your experience may be very, very different. But for the past two days, I have spent entirely too much time trying to Sync my devices and passwords, and I am still on Square One. I'll revisit 1Password again in a month or so, and hope that by then they have most of the issues resolved.
Very disappointing
clubside360 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
As a fan of 1Password for OS X I was really looking forward to this on the iPad (having skipped the iPhone version, not much need for me there). In portrait mode the button to launch a site doesn't work. It doesn't have tabbed browsing or many normal browser features so you can't use it as a replacement for Safari and since it can't be integrated into Safari except through the unsecure bookmarklet feature you're stuck juggling two apps or remembering complex passwords that you bought 1Password to do for you. There is no way to disable the locking feature so if you plan to just use your iPad at home (like me) you're stuck typing in a (usually) complex password every time you launch the app, and given its browser limitations forcing you to go back to Safari for most browsing, that means you'll be typing that code in a lot. Does it do what it says it will do? Yes. It will serve me well for the few sites I will now visit that are protected while on my iPad. But this is a failure that will keep me on my MacBook Pro far more than I intended relegating my iPad to irregular use when I had intended it for my basic browsing needs around the house. 1Password for iPad is a semi-useful failure.
Great app on Mac but major disappointment on iPad.
1P Fan 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
First of all Broomall is right. Create a new database on the iPad app and then sync with Mac. Like him, I found it impossible to "Sync with Existing." But now fully synced, I must confess that I am disappointed with the iPad version. Can't see where there's any shortcut in Safari iPad for 1Password to fill user names and password, as in the OS X version (which is a wonderful app and the reason I purchased the iPad version). App Help sends you to the iPod Touch section which is not reassuring and whose instructions are just the multi-step cut and paste of passwords only. This seems to be just the Touch version enlarged for the iPad's screen. Without the Safari shortcut button found in the OS X version, I'm afraid the iPad version is not worth the money for me.
Very disappointed
ThirstyRobot 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
All the app does is encrypt your info. Would have at least been some use if you could launch websites from within the app.
uninstalled 15 min after buying
humperdink13 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
i bought this because one of my friends said that he uses it on all of his computers and its great... for websites it uses its own browser instead of passing data directly to safari, meaning you cant access most pages.... that was the sole purpose i wanted this for, not having to type in credentials for 5 different banking sites.
Very happy with App and Customer Support
LK 11 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I purchased version 1.0 on the day of the iPad release. There were minor sync issues and and odd bug where the app would crash when launched with the iPad in portrait mode. I immediately sent an email to Agile explaining the issues and received a response within the hour. 1 day later, version 1.1 was available and it fixed the issues. Agile has a great team and did a fine job with this product.
works in landscape view only
alickerman 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
When I try to open the app in portrait mode it crashes and closes. Works in landscape mode. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, the circled arrow to the right of each website name doesn't work in portrait mode, but it DOES work in landscape mode. Once they fix that, this will be an excellent app.
Purchase Complaint

I am also an owner of 1Password pro and purchased the iPad version. I which they would have better notified their customers. Overall, great app.
Does not work very well!!!!
FinForYourSelf 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
The software needs more work. The password synchronization between iPad and Mac does not seem to work very well. When I managed to get them synced, the software on the iPad no longer worked. It did however allow me to key in the password before shutting down. Not only did I purchase this software for iPad, I purchased it for the MAC as well because of the iPad integration. Double bust for me. -MJ
A must have application
mwmw 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I got this app because of friend of mine referred me to it. I was skeptical, but he told me if I didn't think it was worth the $, then he would pay for it. Well.....it is well worth the money. I would highly recommend it. It is one of the best apps on the Mac, iPhone, and now iPad.
Right now this app does nothing!
palex9 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
I synced with my Mac, good. But tapping on any website on the login list does zero and safari has no 1password icon nor any way to have the program fill in user/password......? Is it just me?
