Exclusive Sneak Peek at Casual Fighting Game 'Tap Fu'
Calendar16 Tue, 29 Sep 2009 06:30:13 UTC +00:00
iPhone developers Neptune Interactive and Smells Like Donkey have teamed up to create a casual fighting game inspired by classics like Street Fighter and Karateka. Readers may remember Neptune Interactive as the creator of 7 Cities [$2.99] while Smells Like Donkey is most famously known for iJiggles [99¢]. Tap Fu is a fighting game that features story and survival game modes along with training and free play. The default control scheme utilizes gestures and taps to move your character around and fight the onslaught of evil ninjas that are attacking you. A virtual D-Pad control scheme is also included. Meanwhile, the combat in Tap Fu is spiced up by adding a combo system as well as style points that have been seen before in other games, notably the Devil May Cry series. Tap Fu will initially come loaded with the "Ninjas of the SweetTooth Clan" chapter and the developers have plans Read More
The iPhone is perfectly suited to play tower defense games.  The iPhone’s touch-based controls are great  for the genre since your fingers don’t always have to be on the screen, and the pace of the gameplay allows players to easily pick up and play at any time.  That’s why the App Store is loaded with these sweet strategy games.  To honor them and to help you out, we have created a brand new Applist filled with the best tower defense games. Here are just a handful of apps from the Applist: So if you are a huge tower defense game fan with a hankering for something new, check out our Tower Defense Games Applist to see what you can find.  As always, if you feel we have missed that extra special app, leave a comment below. Finally - a *complete* TD game!
mavisxp 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
As a TD fan, I've purchased pretty much every TD to hit the App Store: Mote-M (poor graphics), Fieldrunners (vastly overrated, ZERO depth, no replay value), Besiegement (good depth, poor visuals), iTD (good depth, but poor graphics), and TapDefense (again - good depth and replay value, but poor visuals) ... Then came 7 Cities TD.
Fieldrunners Killer?
QuickWit 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Fans of TD games have been looking for a game that had the graphics of Fieldrunners, the basic gameplay of games like iTD, the story of Besiegement, and the fun of Zombie Attack... and this just might be that game!
Decent tower defense game
SubtleKnife 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Good: Decent graphics, several different maps. Price is about what you'd expect. Unique tower upgrade system.
Top Notch
Gorillapaws 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
A great implementation of the tower defense genre. The developers clearly took their time polishing this app before release--and it shows. This has become one of my favorite games for the iPhone. The art in the game is worth highlighting, adding significantly to my enjoyment. I look forward to seeing what they do in the future with this app.
Best TD game in app store...
OTFun 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
...and I own them all.
Better than Fieldrunner
palenoue 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
If you can only have one tower defense game on your iPhone, this should be the one. While Fieldrunner is good, this is better and has much more replay value, well worth the price.
One of the best TD games
JeffAK 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
If you like Field Runners this is a must buy. You will find out it also has more depth.
Polished graphics, but boring gameplau
TerrorTwilight 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
Am a big fan of TD games, including ones with fixed placement like 7cities. The graphics are polished (though I agree with others that towers need to stand out more), the skill tree is a nice idea, and overall the game seems well made. Unfortunately, I find it very boring. An odd feeling given my normal obsessive tendencies with similar games. I think the reason for the difference is that in other games you are able to quickly determine the strength and effectiveness of your towers through visual cues and can spend your time watching each wave to see what parts of your setup are effective and where you need to add something. I am unable to do that in this game. Instead, with all of the options for towers, relative lack of visual cues of tower strength, and most importantly the inability to build or modify towers with the game paused, I spend my time playing frantically clicking on towers to read what damage they are doing, rate of fire etc. That takes all of the pleasure out of the game. Feel like I'm doing chores when i kill these pirates rather than relaxing while watching the monsters, fieldrunners, etc. get destroyed like in other games.
WTF
Hungrywolf 1.0 stars Version: 1.5
I just got the new update and it crashes instantly now! Fix the problem and I will restore my original 5 star review!
Entertaining and Unique
emgbeeker 5.0 stars Version: 1.5
While not as polished as the current heavyweight Fieldrunners, 7 Cities TD provides a lot of entertainment. I particularly like the ability to magnify tower effects using the obelisk. The skill tree is a fantastic idea, I hope to see additional branches as well as more towers added in the near future. The maps are very well done and a joy to look at.
Awesome... needs a bit of polishing though
G. Mutato 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This was my introduction to TD games and I'm hooked. The maps are fun and strategic spots really well thought out. The graphics are great and I look forward to future updates and releases from this developer. I'm reserving a star because there's a few places that could be tightened up. The high scores section needs help (can't enter #'s, spaces), the coloring of buildings and "orbs" too often blend in with the map, and there are several places on the map that are obscured by text, or worse unbuildable because they sit too close to the pause button. I would also like to see the high score section record scores with the name of the map and wave # that you made it up to (I find that more valuable than score.)
Holy #%$!
xHALFRICANx 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I can't believe I am about to be saying this... but 7 Cities TD has more depth, more action, more towers, more power ups, more maps, and more replay value than Fieldrunners!! Yes I said BETTER THAN FIELDRUNNERS! Anyone who thinks differently attends the school for the blind! *OBAMA*
The best of the best
Knopfler15 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I own 3 tower defense games, TapDefense, Fieldrunners, and now 7 Cities. If I rated them out of 10, 10 being the best, this is how I would rate them TapDefense-8/10- great FREE game but only one map and the strategy is the same every time. Ok graphics, didn't crash. Fieldrunners-9.5/10- Fieldrunners was the nest td game on my iPod before I discovered this. The free form strategy is always fun to play around with and with the new update coming up, it will be even better. 7 Cities-10/10- easily the best. Difficult great gameplay and a lot different than most td games. The way that the towers level up is awesome and it is overall the best because of the graphics gameplay and no crashes. All of these games are great, most people will probably tell you that Fieldrunners is the best, but the uniqueness of 7 Cities gives it the next step up and that 10/10 rating for me.
Amazing detail

Big.Wave.Dave 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Like a Many others here I too have bought most of the TD games on the app store. This one ranks among the best. Great Graphics. Fun game play. Lots of strategy and towers. Highly recommended!! If you like Beseigement, Tap Defense, and Field Runners, pick this up. You will not be disappointed.
Stylish and polished with great depth
JJJDDD 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a very polished game; the graphics, music, and campaign mode all fit well together to give this game a great unique style. With seven differrent maps and a detailed tower-upgrade system (with unlocking of abilities and multiple upgrade paths) there is a lot of depth and replay value. The "leveling" of towers and interaction of towers with other neighboring towers adds a challenging new element to the strategy as well. A definite buy for fans of tower defense games, but also fun for less experienced players.
:D

Good!

That's good
Pretty good
b-manny 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I'm a TD fanatic and this game is pretty good. Much more depth than fieldrunners. Some problems: - way too easy. I beat most of the levels on hard the first time through - way too east to get the red gems to unlock all the abilities - the game encourages clumping all of your towers towards the beginning because it alows you to collect the blue gems to level up faster. This makes the strategy needed for each levell predictable and boring
From good to ho-hum
DocP76 3.0 stars Version: 1.5.1
They screwed up the balancing with the game now. Cannons to weak and too slow. Obelisks barely provide benefit until level 30. Most annoying is they screwed up the ability to focus attacks on a specific target.
One of best tower def games buy it
SamEmerson 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Great game, want more: levels, strategies, towers, more!
Amazing!
Oboale 4.0 stars Version: 1.5.2
This game has the graphics of Fieldrunners, a great musical score, a superb tower defense foundation and a healthy dose of RPG thrown in to boot. Upgradable towers are awesome! Each map is different too. I'd like to see some night time maps or perhaps some challenge modes but this is a fantastic game. My favorite tower defense game so far!
