This app is AWFUL!!!! As a teacher I was shocked to see how the sounds of the letters were pronounced! TOTALLY WRONG!!!! This teaches children the wrong way. Example: the letter "P" is not voiced when you say it but with this app they sound the letter"P" as "PUH"!!! Not correct at all! Whoever developed this app should have consulted with a teacher. Don't waste your money.
Idea is good, but all sounds are distorted and mispronounced

On first use I could not get any sound on this AP and gave it one star. The next time I used it t with my 4 year Old the sound did work and seems to have value. I now rate it 3 stars. I think articulating the letter names as well as the sound of the letter would be an improvement.

I've only looked at it for 30 seconds, but already the sound is awful and the buttons are not condusive for my son. It MIGHT be worth having a free version for phonics. I'll have to see if this can grab my son's interest at all. Good concept.

A quality learning tool

This is a very useful app for kids and is easy to use. My only complaint is with the handwriting part of the app, which should not let you advance to the next letter if you do not write the letter accurately, with a small margin of error. For example, as it is now if you are asked to draw the letter "a", you could make a "t", or a horribly illegible "a" and the program will still let you proceed to the next letter, which doesn't seem to be the best way to help kids learn to make their letters. It would definitely be a five star app with the handwriting fixed to help improve kids accuracy!
Impeccable Updated Version

I know many of you have purchased the older version of this app., and felt horrible about the audio quality. I must say, I didn't know how bad it was, but the audio quality of this newer updated version is impeccably done in a professional recording studio! The voice is clear and accurate, and there are even two options for you to choose from - US or UK, so US customers don't have to worry about your kids picking up an UK accent and vice versa! The developer is constantly trying to make this app better and better, and I would definitely recommend you to give it a try! This is my first review about any app in the apple store 'coz I just felt that the previous comments just don't do any justice to this newly updated version. Keep it up, John!

I like the idea behind this game but my child has no interest in playing this app. --- requests--- can you make the game option accessible with a button on main screen? The app seems made to appeal to an adult not a child. Could you add something to it to make it more appealing to kids? Colorful backgrounds or pictures or some praise/rewards etc. Thank you.

I have seen this app become more kid oriented over the last year. I'm glad that the app designers continue to take suggestions and implement strategies that improve the appearance and overall functionality of the app. As a first grade teacher, my suggestion is to change the fonts of the letters. When I teach lower case t for example I do not curve the bottom to the right, instead I write a straight line from top to bottom. If you can change the fonts of the letters to what primary grades learn it will be a more powerful tool. Also modeling the correct strokes will help kids learn to print correctly. For example, write the line in the lower case i first before the dot. I will change my rating when changes are made.
Wonderful learning tool

My daughter is going into kindergarten and this app has really helped her learn the sounds that go with each letter and how to put sounds together to form a word. It is very convenient to pull this out when she starts getting bored. She enjoys it, too. The updates have really helped the sound quality. It is definitely a good tool for preparing kids for kindergarten.
Need More Feedback

I love the concept of this game but the V1.4 implementation leaves me wanting. There is no feedback to the child when writing the letters, no sound, no completion "reward", no nothing. It even expects the child to manually advance to the next letter. It is not fun, therefore it is NOT engaging = no Play Time. iWriteWords is much more replayable game and much more engaging (something to learn from). I hope a future update can add more game-play feedback, if this game is to succeed.

Wow! When I first bought this App, I would have given it 1 or 2 stars. It was a bit rusty. But the producers have been *amazingly* responsive to feedback, and it has steadily improved. I can honestly say now, that this is a polished and brilliant game for kids to learn phonics with. It's absolutely wonderful! Easily gets 5 stars now. Thank you producers!
