Hurricane Irene: 12 Ways to Track the Storm Online
Calendar16 Tue, 23 Aug 2011 20:13:20 UTC +00:00
by There’s a lot of excitement on the East Coast this week. In addition to Tuesday’s earthquake, Hurricane Irene will likely make an appearance this weekend in the Carolinas and possibly elsewhere. As I write this, Hurricane Irene is wreaking havoc on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, but who knows where it will go? The National Weather Service reported Tuesday morning that the storm is moving northwest at 10 mph. By Thursday, it’s expected to strengthen into a Category 3 storm. Predicting the path of a hurricane is notoriously difficult work. Since things can change quickly, you can, in effect, become your own meteorologist by using many of the same tools the pros use. In this day and age, there are a wealth of online tools that can help you track the hurricane. If you’re one of the millions of people in the path of Hurricane Irene, you might Read More
Free App Friday: 5 Apps For Checking the Weather
Calendar16 Fri, 13 May 2011 18:00:19 UTC +00:00
Posted 05/13/2011 at 10:00am | by Florence Ion Don't know what it's like outside? Too lazy to open up the curtains and take a peek? Use your Mac or iOS devices to check and see what the weather is like. Here's a quick look at five free weather apps that let you know whether today's the day to leave the jacket at home. A free weather app that relies on crowd-sourced data to let you know what it's like outside. Lately, this is one of our favorite apps because it really gives you a detailed look at what the weather is like in your particular neighborhood or area. While it's actually the "Lite" version of another Weather application, Weather+ is nice because it gives you current weather conditions and a 5-day forecast worldwide, as well as videos and widgets, all beautifully visualized on your iPad. It's not actually a weather application, Read More

A flawed diamond...
M Long 3.0 stars Version: 1.01
Visually stunning design marred by clunky interface. The only way to switch between modes is to press the thumb "button" in the lower right corner, page through a bunch of oversized icons, then hit the one you want. Same to go back. Awkward, and gets old VERY quickly. I think the UI designer fell in love with his interface idea, and ignored the testing group... Listen. You've got a big screen, so how about devoting 1/4 inch of space to a toolbar that lets you move from the forecast to the weather radar screen with one simple action. And not five. And speaking of the radar screen, why can't it be zoomed or repositioned? Hope you fix the problems. In the meantime, I deleted AccuWeather, and went back to WeatherBug.
Better!
surfboy11 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
Much better! Ability to change locations on the fly a big help! Thanks for listening to your customers. Not sure what some of the other reviewers are complaining about. I can add other cities just fine, including San Francisco.
Flawless
Whitaker Cunningham 5.0 stars Version: 1
This app is amazing. The video works flawlessly and flipping through the locations is neat. Way better than the iPhone app! :).
Finally!
?Mark? 5.0 stars Version: 1.01
Just loaded this up and even playing with various new iPad apps. So far, this looks like the killer weather app. Visually stunning. I deleted 2 other weather apps because after seeing this, who needs them? Crisp HD looking video forecasts. Multi-day forecasts for the cities you want. Awesome lifestyle reports telling you if the weather will be good, fair, poor etc for various activities. This is app started to show what the iPad can do!
Great freebie
jones5233 5.0 stars Version: 1
This is an excellent app for weather for the iPad. Nice display and flow, with limits on the ads. Good job on this app
Great interface!
schulzpm 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Best weather app. Love it!
Outstanding!
Rytch 5.0 stars Version: 1
This app is beyond a doubt the best weather app I have seen. It is a must-have app for the Ipad!
Even after update, still can't add cities
therealjustdeb 2.0 stars Version: 1.01
We downloaded this app on launch day only to discover that you couldn't add any new locations. I was optimistic when I saw the update today, yet even after updating, I still cannot add cities whether I'm in portrait or landscape mode. Please fix!
Useless App
Jeff-Bob 1.0 stars Version: 1.01
Downloaded the app and the update -- and still no way to add my city (San Francisco) to the locations. So it's great if I want to know the weather in New York city.
Great Weather App
shinturtle 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
This is a great weather app for the iPad. It makes great use of the larger screen size, and has some great features. The wheel where you drag the pointer around a clock to get hourly weather is ingenious. I love it. Thanks for a great app!
Indispensable - the best weather app for the iPad
David of Seattle 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Even if Apple had included a weather app with the iPad I'd probably use this app. I've tried all the iPad weather apps, and this is the best. It has the most comprehensive database (try looking up Lijiang China on any of the others), it's fast, intuitive, very iPad-like and just plain gorgeous. Plus it's free and while it's ad-supported the ads are unobtrusive and the ad-free paid version is reasonable enough if you want to avoid the ads. Download and install it, you won't regret it!
Great support for a gorgeous looking app
gretschfan 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Minor bug persists in which geolocate in canada causes lockup, but developer is super fast and responsive in investigating this. It's a minor issue when compared to how this app is useful and great looking. Makes very good use of iPad's extra screen space.
The is the most brilliant use of 1024x768 screen
Greeniemax 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Just beautiful, this is the best and most beautiful weather app I have ever seen, design is just brilliant, it's perfect. I normally don't go out of my way to write a review for app I like but this one deserves it.
Excellent!
bmwgroup 5.0 stars Version: 1
The best app for your accu weather! The first to review this app for the iPad. : )
Not bad
Ambrai5 3.0 stars Version: 1.01
This app is beautiful and free so I feel bad complaining however I can't set a different location unless I am in that location which seems odd. Also no product documentation makes this confusing. But again it's free so I guess u get what u pay for.
Stunning application!
Veverita 5.0 stars Version: 1.01
Please disregard the bad reviews!!! This application is the best for checking the weather. Keep up the good work!
Flawless and FUN app
epsilonz 5.0 stars Version: 1
Can't believe how fun they made the weather. And they updated it after only one day! The application works great and I love flipping between locations. Just click the city in the top right and all the weather will change instantly. I love the flipping functionality you added to see more information. Just makes everything fun, and just what I want out of my iPad.
Great weather app
eternalleigh 4.0 stars Version: 1
This is a great FREE weather app for the iPad. It has a great interface and is easy to use. For those that gave it bad reviews because you can't add citiies they didn't try very hard because it's very easy to add them under the settings, it just takes a minute to find it. Anyway, great app, the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I would like to be able to view multiple locations at once.
Great App from a Great Development Team
slykryck 5.0 stars Version: 1
Thankfully, the developers are extremely active and are monitoring people's requests. They pushed out an update to fix any major issues after only one day! I hope they continue to add to the application over time. This app is just plain beautiful and one of the best weather applications I have ever seen. You can actually get a very quick look at the weather, but there is also more information if you want to see it. Even better, you can hide the ads! Theres not a blaring ad just stuck in your face. Lastly, the app is just plain fun to play with. Definitely check it out.
Awesome!
Vleavell 5.0 stars Version: 1.01
This is simply an incredible app! Visually, it's the best weather app in the store! Some people say you cannot add cities, WRONG! You just have to go in to settings and add them there. So very glad I got it!
Highly underrated
crispee 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I saw the 2.5 star rating and was skeptical -- but this is a fantastic weather app and really fun to use. They have gone out of their way to create a really stunning interaction with the weather. Don't believe the bad reviews.
Great App
MatthewStorm 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
This is one of the more brilliant weather apps out there. Good job.
Maps
Dxtra 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
The only thing wrong I found u can't zoom in/out of maps. Huge deal for me
Stunning interface
Pixel-Pusher 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
This has become my "go to" weather app. Beautiful looking, easy, and fun to get all your weather info. This is how an iPad app should look and behave. Really love it and am upgrading to the ad free version right now for a very reasonable $1. Highly recommend.
Not impressed
GBMINI 1.0 stars Version: 1.01
The icons are all rather too large, and the map seems not to center where I want it to - living on the coast near Boston, MA, my town isn't even visible off the edge! I prefer the Weather.com App.
