Add another developer to the Valentine's Day sale bandwagon, as Namco is now offering a huge selection of their iOS games at discounted rates. I honestly don't remember Valentine's Day being such a big deal before, but with EA, Capcom, Sega, and countless smaller developers using the holiday as an excuse to release special Valentine's themes or have sales, it looks like we can expect this sort of thing going forward. Have a look at what Namco is offering on discount, separated by price for your perusing pleasure (asterisks denote in-app purchase prices): $4.99 $3.99 $2.99 $1.99 99¢ Whew! That's a big list. In other Namco-related news, the Valentine's Day skin for Pac-Man has gone live as a free update for that game, and his lady friend has appeared on the iPad as Ms. Pac-Man for iPad [$4.99], as we told you about earlier this week. The Namco Valentine's Day sale Read More
Happy Thanksgiving – Here Are a TON of Games on Sale
Calendar16 Thu, 25 Nov 2010 11:04:08 UTC +00:00
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, and has been all my life. What's there not to love about an entire day revolving around eating massive amounts of turkey, stuffing, and all the other fixings? Sure, I could do without needing to feign interest in football, but thankfully tryptophan overload usually allows me to sleep through all of that. If you're looking for something to do this year while you do your best to either pretend to be interested in football or anxiously wait for the food to be done, there are a ton of sales on the App Store to consider. The basis of this post comes from SirAwesome's awesome thread in our new price drops, freebies, and deals forum. He put together an extremely exhaustive listing of everything that's on sale, and the thread is good to stop by just to make sure you're not missing anything that might Read More

On the heels of Glu Mobile’s Independence Day promotion, we have another publisher joining the party – Namco, which just recently celebrated Pac-Man’s 30th birthday. However, unlike Glu, Namco hasn’t made most of its titles available for 99 cents — it decided to slash prices just a bit, yet enough to make the games more attractive to consumers. Here’s what they got: iPhone: Android (all games are $2.99): If you find something of interest – act now! The sale ends today — unfortunately, we’ve missed Namco’s original announcement. Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry. The "convergence" is what he's most excited about, and writing about it is the next logical thing to do. He thinks that using a smartphone is what everyone who cares about their time should do. July 4th Weekend Sales: Gameloft, EA, Glu, Namco and More
Calendar16 Sat, 03 Jul 2010 10:25:44 UTC +00:00
In celebration of this holiday weekend, several game companies are hoping that you'll load up on some new games while loading up on burgers and hot dogs. Four of the biggest iPhone developers have discounted a selection of their games for this event, and a few other random sales are occurring as well. There's bound to be something on this massive list that piques your interest, so in between lighting off tiny explosives in the name of freedom and stuffing your face with barbecued treats make sure you hit up these sales before they're gone. Holidays on the App Store mean big savings for customers. Developers including Glu, Gameloft, and Namco are putting oodles of apps on sale, with many as low as $0.99. Grab 'em while you can! We Americans celebrate July 4th as Independence Day. Usually it involves fireworks, glow-sticks, barbecues, and patriotic parades. But quite a few developers have decided to celebrate in yet another way—by putting their apps on sale. Yay, cheap apps! Yay, developers selling lots of apps! Yay, fireworks! So far we’ve got sales from EA Games, Glu, Gameloft, and Namco, as well as a few bonus apps. Hit the break for a full listing of on-sale apps and games. Namco Namco is the developer behind lots of games, not just the Pac-man titles, and they’d like us all to remember that with this crazy sale. Many games are $0.99; others are still significantly cheaper than their already-low App Store Read More

Editor-in-Chief, iLounge Published: Friday, December 4, 2009 Category: iPod, iPhone, and iPad Gems: Apps, Games + More Welcome to this week’s second catch-up edition of iPhone Gems. We’re continuing to work through a large number of recent game releases for the iPhone and iPod touch, and today have three new titles to share with you: the three-dimensional airplane shooter Ace Combat Xi, the ball-and-maze game Labyrinth 2, and the tank warfare game Project Phoenix. The clear pick of this bunch is Labyrinth 2, but the other games are worth hearing about, as well. Read on for all the details. Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion Something is still very, very wrong at Namco. Most of its iPod and iPhone games have been clunkers—mediocre ports and updates of old games—and now, when it has finally released something truly awesome, it has managed to deliver so little value for the dollar that we Read More
Namco Says Happy Hearts Day With HUGE Games Sales!

February 14th, 2010 James Isabel If there’s a holiday/special event going on, expect Namco to be one of the few to put their games on sale. Until tonight I believe, you can download many of their games roster on the following sale prices: The first Ace Combat game was released in 1995 and the various versions have been put on different Playstation consoles, the Xbox 360, Game Boy and PSP. The franchise’s next outing is the iPhone (not surprisingly), and boy does this game deliver! We’ve seen Namco release numerous games for the iPhone however most games are met with criticism good and bad. Something tells me this game is one of their games that are simply runaway hits from the get go. Yet even more Namco games on sale: We’ll feature more games on sale throughout the day so make sure to keep on checking! You can leave a response, Read More

It's time to head off to the nearest Coinstar machine to turn the treasures lost to your couch cushions in to iTunes credit, as this week has some sales you likely won't want to miss. As usual, all of these prices are current as of this posting and because of the nature of App Store price fluctuations it's usually not a good idea to wait very long if any of these games interest you. The star of the show this week is Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, a game that we not only loved in our review but also awarded 5 stars in our January "Best iPhone Games" round up. For a limited time to celebrate the Chinese new year, Chinatown Wars will be available for $6.99, down from its original $9.99. Hands-on review: Ace Combat XI for iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 06 Jan 2010 20:04:46 UTC +00:00
Wow. Not often do you play a game and think it really ticks ALL the boxes of what you are looking for! Actually, in this case I was looking for a game that would push the iPhone a little bit more than most games out there do, yet still be really playable and fun – and I think I found it in ‘Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion’! Ace Combat, as I’ll call it, is a 3rd person perspective flight attack simulator, putting you in control of a range of aircraft, in full 3D! You are given a stack of missions to complete that involve destroying both airborne and ground-based targets, and all of this is glued together with controls via the accelerometer of the iPhone…. Uh-oh, I hear you say – doesn’t that make it hard to play? Well no, not really. Admittedly, there is a learning curve where you Read More
The popular series Ace Combat has finally soared onto the App Store for the first time blowing up anything that gets in it’s way. The first Ace Combat game was released in 1995 and the various versions have been put on different Playstation consoles, the Xbox 360, Game Boy and PSP. The franchise’s next outing is the iPhone (not surprisingly), and boy does this game deliver! My Take The aviation genre on the App Store is probably one of the strongest out there. With some insanely good titles like and the upcoming Skies of Glory you must be brave to even attempt a game. When we heard of Ace Combat  coming to the iPhone many people got excited that this game was being brought to the iPhone. But how does it size up to the other big games on the App Store? Presentation I couldn’t help but judge this game to Read More
Ace Combat
Calendar16 Wed, 16 Dec 2009 09:20:43 UTC +00:00
Ace Combat is arguably the best jetfighter game for the consoles to date. It offers a fun and realistic air combat experience that goes unrivaled to this day. Now, NAMCO has released their hit game for the iPhone in hopes to bring that awesome experience to the mobile platform. The game is the closest thing to flying a real aircraft that we have on the iPhone. The game features some awesome air combat including all the essentials that you would come to expect. Things like gun, missiles, target locking, throttle boosts and a full 3D environment are included in this app. But it is not without its issues. The first huge issue that I noticed is that the game sometimes struggles on a 3G or lower phone. I had some pretty bad lag when playing on my 3G although I have not heard any complaints from those on the 3GS. The Read More
Review: Ace Combat Xi Skies of Incursion for iPhone
Calendar16 Mon, 14 Dec 2009 23:04:00 UTC +00:00
[This is a joint review written by Thomas and JoeT. Joe's remarks are in italics] I had been looking forward to the iPhone release of Ace Combat XI ever since I heard about it. This game marks the first time I’ve ever used an accelerometer to fly a plane, and I think it worked out for the most part. The game feels like an Ace Combat experience with all of the menu presentation, mission briefings, and the circuitous dogfights where you just need that precious half of a second to obtain a missile lock. However, the fact that the core of Ace Combat are so well implemented actually highlights the fact that so many other great aspects of the game are missing. There is no enjoyable, lengthy campaign, no build-up of your reputation as the Southern Cross, and almost no variety in terms of your encounters. The last bit is definitely Read More
Preview: two high fliers reviews coming to JAiB
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Dec 2009 17:57:31 UTC +00:00
I was going to invite people to join the JAiB Mile High Club, but  then I remembered that means something else. No, what I’m talking about here are our upcoming reviews of HAWX ($7) and Ace Combat XI ($8) on the iPhone. Neither of them are flight sims, but both of them have console counterparts that are pretty big hits. HAWX is one of those Tom Clancy titles where everything looks really polished and hi-tech, and Ace Combat has always been one of those series that makes you feel like Snoopy does as he sits up on his doghouse fighting the Red Baron — a real ace pilot who is feared by everyone else in the sky. I’m pretty impressed with the general feel of accelerometer-based piloting, but I’ll take a chance now and say that one game is clearly better than the other. I played and finished one game in Read More
'Ace Combat Xi Skies of Incursion' – Hope You Like DLC!

flight action game series that has seen numerous sequels that take place all over the There are a lot of things I like about this game. The plane models themselves are great, and the ground is covered with real satellite imagery which greatly adds to the realistic look of the game compared to many other titles that just use plain green and brown textures that vaguely resemble grass and dirt. I've found the tilt controls to work very well, and the various on-screen buttons that make up your weaponry and throttle controls to be easy to use. Everything about the flight system itself in the game is phenomenal, and you can tell that they've drawn from the years of experience in making the Ace Combat games. There are two views, a first person cockpit view and a third person chase camera. I've found myself preferring the cockpit view, only because the Read More
'Ace Combat Xi Skies of Incursion' First Impressions
Calendar16 Thu, 03 Dec 2009 05:32:53 UTC +00:00
Namco's highly anticipated jet fighter game Ace Combat Xi Skies of Incursion [App Store] was released this evening, the most recent in a very long line of Ace Combat games that spans nearly all home and portable consoles. The game itself doesn't have much of a tutorial, but the controls and gameplay are exactly what you would expect out of a game like this, and anyone who has played an Ace Combat game (or similar jet fighter game like F.A.S.T.) will feel right at home without instruction. We will have a full review posted soon, but having only played the first few missions so far I'm happy with the game in it's exactly what I expected out of an Ace Combat game for the iPhone. The story seems decent, the gameplay is fast paced, and the graphics are phenomenal. I imagine for a lot of fans of the series, that's all Read More
