The Top Ten Scariest iOS Games of All Time
Calendar16 Mon, 31 Oct 2011 20:37:35 UTC +00:00
It's Halloween night, and while you're sitting on the couch waiting for trick-or-treaters to show, why not curl up with one of these terrifying iOS games? A lot of games feature friendly monsters and zombies, but we've picked our favorite creepy, dark, and freaky iPhone and iPad games to make your evening a little scarier. 10. Contract Killer: Zombies Glu's latest freemium first-person sniper game has a few notable improvements over Contract Killer. For one, you're sniping undead zombies instead of mafioso, and two, the gore factor is upped in a big way. Some missions even have you defending a human ally while they're surrounded by zombies-- a scary position to be in. Our Bottom Line: If you’re looking for a bloody shooter with busty undead blondes and shotgun fun, how can you say no? 9. Dead Escape In this adventure game, you have to combine items to puzzle your way Read More
Better known for their gory zombie shooter, Alive-4-Ever [$2.99 and its sequel, Meridian takes on an entirely different genre in Airport Terminal, pitting you in the shoes of an entrepreneurial airport mogul. In doing so, they show off the spectrum of their creative output by not only being capable of gory zombie shooters, but also charming time management games. In each of the whopping 70 levels in Airport Terminal you are faced with a variety of different customers from all walks of life. Basketball players, movie stars, snotty kids; each have distinct needs that must be catered for. Firstly, this involves delivering them to their respective First, Business or Coach class check-in, before sending them off to a number of different amenities and services invariably found in an airport terminal. What separates Airport Terminal from other time management games on initial observation, is the dual-screen challenge presented by the check-in and Read More

It's about that time for many gamers to start heading back to school, and it can be a difficult task to say goodbye to the lazy days of summer. Your friends at Sega want to make this transition just a little bit easier by offering just about all of their App Store titles at a discounted rate until September 1st. And Sega's not alone, as developer Meridian is celebrating the one year anniversary of their popular dual-stick shooter Alive 4-ever by putting their entire selection of games on sale for the next three days. If you haven't had a chance to pick up any of these titles before, now is your chance to do so and save a bit of cash in the process. Sega titles on sale: Meridian titles on sale: Besides these specific sales, there's pretty much always other titles with price drops at any given time, as most Read More
Dual-stick shooters are popular at the AppStore with titles suitable for almost any taste. Mindless fans adore Minigore (TMA Review) and iDracula – Undead Awakening; while mature, story-loving fans may prefer the stylish Garters & Ghouls (TMA Review) or the addictive Guerrilla Bob (TMA Review). In 2009, the smart-looking, deep RPG-shooter, Alive 4-ever (TMA Review) wowed us. And now it RETURNS, bigger, bloodier and more gorgeous than ever. Alive 4-ever RETURNS is a zombie-themed dual-stick shooter in many ways true to the original. It has been about a month since the virus was first set free in Nefount City and the authorities have just arrested Dr. Lederman and extradited him to the US. Unfortunately there has been an accident and the ship has sunk somewhere around a small island off the coast of California. A handful of survivors unaffected by the original outbreak now have to find a way to leave the island Read More
Alive-4-Ever RETURNS hits App Store and then goes on sale
Calendar16 Thu, 29 Apr 2010 16:32:51 UTC +00:00
I’m actually not sure how big the dual stick zombie shooter, Alive-4-Ever, was in its prime, but I had always thought of it as a sleeper hit. I thought it was a lot more entertaining than iDracula, and it delivered quickly on the promise of local co-op gameplay (something Minigore has been promising for a good long while now). What’s more, these co-op missions had different objectives, different kinds of monsters, and upgradeable weapons to keep people hooked and wanting more. Alive-4-Ever RETURNS looks a lot like all of the above, but doubled in zombie-ness and weaponage (both real words, I assure you). It’s also currently a dollar cheaper than its predecessor, at $1.99. That’s zombie logic right there — take advantage of it. Read More
Review: Guerilla Bob for iPhone
Calendar16 Mon, 19 Apr 2010 16:42:23 UTC +00:00
Guerrilla Bob looks like he’s a cigar-chomping, bad-guy-stomping soldier with a gruff voice and a lot of killer weaponry, but he’s not. He also used to be the best friend of John Gore (of Minigore fame) until the two had a falling out, and so Mr. Gore actually plays the role of your arch nemesis throughout the campaign mode. It sounds epic, but it’s not. Only the graphics are “wicked” The sad thing about Guerrilla Bob is that it looks so darn good. I would say “damn good”, but I don’t want to make ol’ Bob blush. Everything about Guerilla Bob is corny, and not in a charming B-Movie, Bruce Campbell kind of way. Guerilla Bob’s hero isn’t Duke Nukem, but rather the Mario Bros. These are other action heroes who fight evil, but do it in a very goofy, cartoony, and basically harmless way. That’s not to say that I Read More
Alive 4-Ever Returns, the sequel to Meridian’s smash hit top-down dual stick survival shooter Alive 4-Ever, is set to hit the App Store before month’s end, and we have some brand new screenshots and a gameplay trailer to prove its existence. Alive 4-Ever Returns looks to build off of the success of the original by featuring a new and improved game engine that will provide even more stunningly gory visuals, new environmental effects, and give you the ability to zoom in on the action.  The game will also include new weapons, such as dual handguns, grenades, rocket launchers, and sticky bombs that will help slow down the zombies.  Meridian is looking to add even more depth to this sequel by providing improved RPG elements and two brand new game modes. The game’s story will pick up right where the original left off: A month after the outbreak of the virus accident Read More
Meridian's Alive 4-Ever [App Store] is a dual stick shooter that was released late last year which easily stood out from the swarm of similar games with fun gameplay, great graphics, and light RPG elements that allowed you to upgrade your characters and weaponry. We really liked the game in our review and eventually ended up giving it 4.5 stars for the month. Currently in the beta testing phase, Alive 4-Ever RETURNS seems to take the foundations from the original game, and adds a new graphics engine capable of weather and camera effects, and even more of the RPG elements we liked in Alive 4-Ever. Also included are new weapons, zombies, and game modes as well as local WiFi co-op mode. There are additional gameplay videos as well as information on how to apply to be a beta tester in the thread on our forums. As mentioned before, we really liked Read More

Weekly App Store Picks: October 31, 2009
Calendar16 Sat, 31 Oct 2009 15:00:57 UTC +00:00
As another week passes, the seams of Apple’s App Store have been stretched even further with a deluge of new releases. Digging through the latest apps, I’ve selected four fresh picks for you to check out. It’s Halloween and so my top pick for this week is Alive 4-ever, a top-down zombie shooter with plenty of guts and gore to go around. I’ve also been checking out TowerMadness Zero, NASA and WordPress 2. As it’s Halloween, I thought that at least one of my top picks this week should be themed for the occasion. Despite the clumsy sounding name, Alive 4-Ever is a surprisingly polished top-down shooter. The plot is simple and disgustingly cliché: for whatever reason, a zombie apocalypse happens, you take to the streets to rescue other survivors. The game takes its inspiration from some of the best zombie titles out there, including Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead. Read More

'Alive 4 Ever' 1.1 Update Sneak Peek
Calendar16 Thu, 24 Sep 2009 16:20:28 UTC +00:00
We got word from Merdian today that Alive 4 Ever [App Store] had its first major content update submitted to Apple for review. They seem to have listened to some of the criticism that forum members had in the Alive 4 Ever thread and implemented quite a few changes. Two new game modes are being introduced, "Survival Battle" and "Horde Battle". In survival battle, you try to stay alive as long as you can through endless streams of zombies. If you survive for ten minutes, a special golden Desert Eagle pistol will be awarded. Horde battle has you fighting waves of zombies, and a P90, golden AK-47, and a M4 Super 90 will be rewarded for clearing waves 8, 16, and 24. Some interface elements have been improved. You can now change the transparency of the dual sticks, and on the scene selection screen a small icon will indicate whether or Read More

The Week In iPhone Apps: Google Who ? [IPhone Apps]

Still, with this? Well, luckily there's plenty of other stuff to tide us over until the Google Voice fiasco resolves itself. Like zombies! And weddings, and exercise, and soundscapes, and urban art, and political activism, and jokes, and, and, and... The Onion Microfiche Reader: It's from the Onion, so it's pretty much guaranteed not to be not funny, but! For all the neat microfilm-esque presentation, this thing doesn't actually have any articles—just a bunch of those jokes-in-a-headline that the Onion is so good at. Still entertaining though. Alive 4 Ever
Calendar16 Wed, 02 Sep 2009 14:20:56 UTC +00:00
Alive 4 Ever is a top down zombie survival shooter for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game plays just like iDracula or Minigore but has a few more elements in it that make it unique. The game is clearly inspired by Resident Evil with its art design and menus. Players will create a profile and choose a character, abilities and weapons they may want to use in battle. Each setup consists of one main weapon and one sub weapon. Once set up, players are taken to the game menu. This is where the first option is brought into the light. Instead of trying to survive and to beat the online high score, players can play a co-op game with a nearby friend via bluetooth. This means for double the craziness as both of you will be running and gunning trying to stay alive. I wasn't able to get a friend Read More

Firstly, this blows every top down shooter I have played out of the zombie infested water, sorry Minigore and iDracula, this new game puts you way behind. I'm on a 1st gen iTouch, and the game is playing beautifully with full effects and sound. I'm a huge fan of the missions (which is lucky because I can't play any multiplayer) and I like the random generation - it keeps things interesting. The main weapon ammo is a serious limitation in longer levels, or if you are saving more than one survivor. This is especially true if the survivors spawn a while away from your rescue point. But this just means you have to use a little strategy to get the job done, like changing up your weapons to your secondary to conserve ammo. I think we may have been spoilt by too much unlimited bright yellow fire power (minigore - I'm looking at you).
Everything I thought it would be & more!
Aldex 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game is simply amazing. I love the fact that you get to upgrade everything from character attributes to buying new and more powerful weapons. I also like the fact that you get to choose your characters. Everything about this game is awesome. So if you're contemplating whether or not you're going to purchase the game, let me tell you now, it's worth every penny.
My new favorite shooter on iPhone
Jspacemans 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I completely agree with the review above that this really sets a new bar for top down dual-stick shooters on the iPhone. The controls are response, the artwork and graphics are top notch, and the audio is great. Best of all, the levels, the goals and extra challenges really gives this game purpose beyond tripe like Minigore. I was skeptical after watching the video but I'm so glad I took a chance. Highly recommended.
Multiplayer
HardcoreEric 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
While i appreciate bluetooth, Please add local wi-fi multiplayer so my first gen friends can join in the game.
Best in class, so far.
Dumas1000 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I only played the first level, but there is a lot of polish/attention to detail with this one. A lot of customization, plus RPG elements. The story has always been weak to non-existent for games of this genre, and Alive 4-ever doesn't seem to over much in that department. Duel-stick Controls work well enough. Graphics are sharp. No signs of slowdown. Probably the best idracula-like game on the idevice. Better than minigore. Better than idracula. I always thought 7-Days Apocalypse was the best game within this genre, but Alive 4-ever has far more depth and significantly more replay value, with 30 levels. Plus, let's face it, once they added the ghost enemies into 7 days, they really frustrated the gameplay. (I rarely give 5-stars, because too many people give 5-stars to every game. I'm trying to hold the app store more accountable. I'd say this is like an 8.5 out of 10)
Better than Minigore and Idracula

This game is awesome. Graphics are nice, music is to notch, and the player and weapon levelups are neat as well. To top it all of, it's only 99 cents. Get it while it's hot. I'd even pay 5 bucks for this.
Awesome!

The Definitive Survival Shooter
Cause007 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Wow, THIS is what the survival genre for iPhone has been waiting for. It's a steal at $0.99 (or even if priced at $5). I've gotten through 1/3 of the missions, including a boss fight, and can say it's addicting, has NO performance issues and smooth graphics (3G), and great sound/music for the theme.
Simply the best of it's kind.
chrisjamess 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game is incredible. I have owned all the other shooters of this type and this has definitely set a new standard for its genre. The game starts out and gives you a variety of characters to choose from. All have a weapon that is unique to them to start out with. From Assualt rifle to shotgun, and sniper rifle to ballistic firepower. Each character also comes with a bonus to one of the 4 stats which are upgradeable throughout the game as you gain experience.
One of the better zombie shooters amongst us
AlbieOne 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
If the iTunes store is good for anything, it’s apparently zombie shooters which get churned out like they’re going out of style. The latest and well, good game is Alive 4-ever, a classic shooter that has good intentions when it comes to style, but could use some variety if it knew any better. For an initial release, I have to commend the devs for putting a more or less complete game together which cannot be taken for granted these days.
Awesome!
Lanights 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
At only 99 cents, it's a steal & a no-brainer. If you loved iDracula, you're going to love this. Get it NOW while it's on sale.

Wow.

Smash Left4Dead up with Gauntlet, add some rpg-lite, and you have one hell of a great game. This is a full campaign, not merely a survival mode. Presentation is top-notch, from the front end, to music/sound, character design, graphics, and menus. Everything here just screams quality. I can't wait to get into some co-op. Nice work, kids.
A fun shooter that mixes it up a bit.

Only thing I wish it had was some way of telling whether or not you achieved a challenge objective from the scene selection screen. As it is, right now you have to hope you don't forget which ones you got and which ones you didn't. Other than that, this is a solid game.

It's like iDracula--but instead of "kill everything before you die", it has a Resident Evil feel to it; you can live to fight another day! So much fun. Get it while it's on sale. Being able to play with your friends through Bluetooth is icing on the cake.
Hurray for the update!
Jallopi 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
First off, Survival and Horde mode are a bit easy, but they're both really fun. They're also both in new environments. The reward indicator is good, but nonetheless useless to me since I already had all of the rewards. As far as weapons, they're all pretty good, except I don't know how to unlock the gold AK-47. I know the small machine gun is unlocked by beating round 8 in Horde mode, the best shotgun is unlocked by beating round 16 in Horde mode, and the gold Desert Eagle is unlocked by lasting 10 minutes in Survival mode, but I don't know how to get the gold AK-47. I lasted 20 minutes in Survival mode, and that didn't do it either. Also, on my profile it says I only have 70 percent complete while I have all the rewards, am at level 50, and have all but one weapon.
Needs wifi
MCRroks 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Okay great game would be worth 5 stars except that iPod touch players can't play together because there is no wifi connect option, only Bluetooth. Please fix this.
Potential is there, but falls short.
TripSe7en 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
There is so much potential for this game. The developers put so much emphasis into multiplayer but they only allow Bluetooth connectivity. There are levels that are nearly impossible without another player, so if I don't have a friend handy to help, which I don't, that means I am stuck. Add wifi to fix this issue. Also, if you have a shotgun or rifle, you can't kill dogs that are attacking you!? That mean almost near death every time because then you get piled up by zombies. Please fix this as well. Then the weapons aren't very realistic. A fully auto gun that only shoots one shot at a time? Cmon... And the ability to see what side missions you completed would be great. There is no way of telling what past levels you completed the side missions on. This makes it frustrating to collect all the perks. Lime I said, th potential is there to be the best game on the iPhone, but for now, I'll stick with Spider...
awesome, but...
$QU33B0 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
needs: wifi support... sales will improve custom survival mode, where you have a checklist on what zombies you want to be after you add these and it will be near perfect I have noticed a problem with the grenade launcher, you can't kill dogs while they're attacking you.
Cool
Danemclean 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Good but really needs wifi to be great. I can't use the coolest feature of the game because I have a 1st gen touch.

Unless I'm retarded and don't get it, this game almost made me snap my phone in half. Once the dogs latch on, you have to switch guns and kill it with your pistol and pray another dog doesn't latch on before you escape or you get sucked into a mob of zombies and dogs and your done. Who the heck makes a game that you have to rapidly swap weapons back and forth and pray. It was fun until I had to retry the mission 10 times and give up pissed off because such a trivial problem prevents me from being able to enjoy it.
Extremely fun, even on SP

I'll leave it to some of the other reviews to describe what you're getting into in greater detail (they do a good job). The art style is very nice, some Manga, but very good. The UI organization is great. I wish there were more in the way of instructions, but everything becomes pretty self explanatory fairly quickly; ammo drops (looks like a suitcase) completely refills your ammo. My only complaint is the aiming and stats - you can't really aim without shooting, and so sometimes that can waste a shot or two... which is a problem if you are using the Sniper rifle, for example. Not sure on the solution... As for stats, I would rather that "Walking Speed" and 'Reload rate" be rpg upgradable stats instead of "Curing efficiency" and "Max bullets" respectively. Lastly, it'd be nice for players to be able to get/buy a weapon upgrade (at least replace the pistol) by the 3-4th mission, rather than 6-7... just feels too long.
Yes!

I see somebody finally took my advice. Very good game! (Update) I decided this game is too generic. It's just like every other dual stick shooter. This game has way more content to it, but honestly I'd rather play Minigore, because it's more original. Use what people usually forget about: imagination.
No Replay Value, yet?
TSD-MAD 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
After all 30 levels all that is needed is ability points, and once all guns are bought money is useless so to kill both flaws with 1 update it should be possible to buy ability points!
Great game but....

Bebop24 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I want to make it clear that the ONLY reason I am not giving this game 5STARS, is because I hope better games and apps are always around the corner including a sequel to this great game. The controls are great, the options and customization are great, the sound is great, variation of enemies and bosses are great, and most importantly the gameplay is very fun and addicting. This is really a lot more in depth then any other game I've played on my iPod touch and the depth isnt just there for show. I've played and enjoyed minigore, but this game has so much more. I'm not even half way done with the game and I'm already looking for word of more content or a sequel. If you like these dual stick shooters then this game should definately be on your iPod/iPhone already.
Doesn't work on iTouch 2G

Beats IDRACULA and MINIGORE to death!!!!!
BBK357 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
I love this game, and im not even a huge fan of the dual stick shooters. I have this game, minigore, and idracula, and this is by far the best. You can customize your characters stats, upgrade in 4 different styles of weapons, and you have actual objectives. Everything i stated here does not exsist in the other two games i mentioned. This game kept me busy for a few weeks, as i tried to beef up my character as much as i could, replaying levels for extra stat points.
This game is amazing!
Pop-a-Smurf 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
This game is rediculously fun! The bluetooth multiplayer is an awesome idea, but it just needs some bugs fixed, because it loses connection a lot with your friend that is like 5 feet away. Please add a fully automatic side weapon, and continue to keep updating. But this app is seriously worth the $2.
Huh, guess I was so busy playin'....
Rich_952000 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
...I forgot to leave my 4 star? Hell no, 5 star review. Everyone has already broke down gameplay, graphics etc. you'd be wise to get this now @$.99 it's completely worth 4 to 5 bucks, so a buck is a tremendous deal for a shooter of this caliber.
Fun Shooter !

There are a couple of things that could make it better 1.make the guns sound like the actual thing. I highly doubt that the m16, AK-47 and p90 all sound the same 2.GET RID OF THE TENTACLE ZOMBIES
