Zeo Sleep Manager

| FREE | Zeo Inc.
Are you getting enough sleep at night? More importantly, are you getting enough quality sleep at night?  I'm willing to bet that most of you readers could do much better in the forty winks department.  I know I could.  Now, I have a handy tool to tell me just how well I rested last night and for how long.  It's called Zeo Sleep Manager and it's changed the way I live...  Well, at least the way I sleep. I need to tell you what exactly a Zeo Sleep Manager is before advising how it works.  Simply put, the device is a Bluetooth accessory that is worn over your forehead with little sensors that read your sleep levels.  You take it apart and charge it on the night stand each day and then snap it back together before nodding off.  Zeo also has a free Android application which pairs to the headband-like monitor and keeps track of your sleeping habits.  Between the hardware and the software the two work to comprise your ZQ, or sleep score. I'll admit that I was a bit leery of putting such a "weird" thing on my head at night before going to sleep.  It took me about two days to get over the idea that I had this thin headband on with a rectangle sensor right over my forehead.  My fear was that I would awake the next morning and have three little dots on my brow or a red mark that took forever to go away.  I'm happy to say that that neither of these happened and sleeping was much easier than expected.  Thanks to a very light weight and thin band, the Zeo never gets in the way or obstructs normal sleep. Being that I am a "take it out of the box and Read More

Lookout Mobile Security has identified a new series of Android apps with yet another type of malware, this time in form of premium SMS toll fraud.  Called RuFraud, these applications often disguised themselves as horoscope apps, wallpaper apps for Twilight, and/or free versions of popular games.  Lookout notified Google who promptly pulled the dirty apps and will continue to monitor for any new instances. Totaling 22 apps in all, these affected European users living in Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Czech Republic, Poland, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Latvia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Estonia as well as Great Britain, Italy, Israel, France, and Germany.  Lookout has issued an update on their end to protect against the RuFraud and says that only a few instances of each were able to affect users. Worldscope Webcams

| FREE | Kukurin Android Team
One local Android app development competition turned a father and sons trio into Kukurin Android Team. The motivation and technical talent behind Team Kukurin led them to create one of the most interesting apps in the Android Market to date; Worldscope Webcams. With many webcam apps in Android Marketplace, Kukurin Android Team had to make the Worldscope Webcams app the best webcam viewer that displays thousands of updated webcam shots comfortably on a user’s Android powered device. Through a partnership with Webcams.travel (http://webcams.travel), the Worldscope Webcams app allows people who have an Android device to search through over 16,000 webcams that exist throughout the world. Besides just viewing webcams, Worldscope Webcams has extra features to make sure its users are constantly looking for interesting webcam destinations. “In my opinion, the biggest advantage of Worldscope is the huge database of webcams; over 16,000 and growing,” states Goran Kukurin, Worldscope’s founder and CEO. “Our partnership with Webcams.travel gives us a few advantages; one being as soon as a webcam is added in their database, it’s immediately available for our app users.” One of the best features of Worldscope Webcams is the ability to set a desired location’s webcam as a homescreen background. As the webcam refreshes throughout the day, the images on the homescreen also refresh. The user automatically sees what is happening hundreds or even thousands of miles away on their Android device’s homescreen. Worldscope Webcams’ homescreen function sets anyone’s Android device as a private webcam oasis with 16,000+ potential updated images. Anyone who has ever traveled knows the feeling of wanting to revisit a prior destination. "I've set my wallpaper images to stream from a webcam in New York City’s Mid-Town Manhattan. That was my first home and it feels good to see the taxi cabs and buses go by on Read More

As part of Lookout’s growth abroad, the company is announcing its relationship with mobile operator Telstra, one of the largest telecommunications companies in Australia. With more than 12 million users, Lookout plays an instrumental role in protecting mobile devices from malware and spyware, phishing scams, data loss and loss of the device itself. International Expansion Globally, people are spending more time on smartphones and tablets than computers, making it more important than ever that people take the steps to protect their devices. Google Maps

| FREE | Google Inc.
Google Maps was recently updated with a seemingly inconsequential addition: "Reduced app storage size with downloads for different screen resolutions." It isn't until actually updating that we find the real reason for the update. Once you hit update, you will be prompted that permissions have changed and upon review of the updated permission you will notice the new "Control Near Field Communitcations." If you'll remember, one of the cool new features of Android 4.0 shown off at the Google/Samsung event was that of Android Beam. Android Beam uses NFC technology to allow users to quickly share things like web pages, apps, and of course maps/directions by simply tapping devices together. We saw Hugo Barra demo Android Beam using Google Maps and it's safe to say this latest Google Maps update is all about the beam. I did look briefly at the updated version of Google Maps and noticed a subtle UI change with the zoom + and - buttons now being square shaped and placed vertically on the screen. I personally liked the old zoom design better but I'm sure this will gradually grow on me. Other than that I spotted a search menu list on the bottom left of my screen which took me to a list of my recent searches with a simple tap. I'm not sure if this was always there but it seemed new to me. I've posted a screenshot to show you guys what I'm talking about so check it out below.
