Remember the colorful and imaginative tower defense game Jelly Defense that we took a look at several weeks ago? It just received a mighty nice update that brings some new winter-based levels, new gameplay options, new music, gameplay improvements, and performance enhancements. In other words, the developers packed quite a bit of punch into this one. Here's the full changelog: If you're not already familiar with Jelly Defense, here's a quick look at some gameplay: If you missed it during Google's $0.10 sale, the game will set you back $2.99 - hit the widget to grab it. The team behind Firefox for Android teased the upcoming release with a tablet-friendly design back in late August, and the final version of FF9 just landed in the Android Market. The update not only features a specialized tablet interface, but also boosts performance and startup speed and brings some HTML5 tweaks to the scene, like camera input support and form validation. The tablet interface offers some nice features over its phone-centric counterpart, like full-screen browsing in portrait, optimized tabs for easy thumb-switching between open pages, and a quick access buttons on the Action Bar. The overall feel and functionality of the finalized app is definitely a big improvement over the beta version that I tried when it was first announced, but the FF team has made one serious omission in this release: the option to change the user agent. That's right, even while browsing on the large screen of a tablet, you'll be stuck looking at mobile websites. Hopefully this is something that will be incorporated in a future update, but until then, I just can't use this as my daily driver. FF9 is still definitely worth checking out, especially if you don't mind looking at mobile sites every once in a while. Hit the widget to give it a go. Firefox Read More
WordPress for Android was updated to version 2.0 earlier today, making on-the-fly blogging easier than ever. The update brings several new features, including a Dashboard and Quick Action Bar giving "one-tap access to everything you want to do with your blog." Additionally, the update offers an all new post editor, which comes with a sophisticated rich text formatting bar and "enhanced" media features. The update also brings full support for Android tablets, which is huge, particularly for those users with a handy Bluetooth keyboard. Personally, I wouldn't think of blogging from a phone, but the screen real estate offered by a tablet seems much more reasonable. If you haven't already, grab the update from the Market link below and start blogging from wherever you are. WordPress Read More
Despite rumors that the game would be delayed until 2012, Sega released Sonic CD to the Android Market today, bringing nostalgic Sonic action to your Android device for just $1.99. Sonic CD follows the titular hedgehog hero to Never Lake to see Little Planet, a time-bending world powered by Time Stones. The game takes players through a variety of environments, keeping up with Sonic's classic style of gameplay using on-screen controls. Adding a fun twist to everyone's favorite ring-grabbing side scroller, Sega has implemented leaderboards, achievements, and US and Japanese soundtracks, making for a slightly updated Sonic incarnation. Google Translate just got a little update that brings big functionality: the ability to recognize written words in seven different languages. The previous version allowed for text and spoken input only, so this update adds just another method to the mix. You may be asking yourself why is this a big deal? This is a useful feature partly due to the fact that it can translate Chinese and Japanese, which both use characters that are uncommon to English keyboards. Other languages with handwriting recognition include: English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish. Hit the widget to grab it. Thanks, Niel! Google Translate Read More

While the Google Voice app has always been free, there was speculation that voice calls to the United States and Canada would begin to cost you money at the beginning of next year. However, new Google Voice users are being greeted by a pop-up window when they first use the Call Phone feature in Gmail that indicates otherwise. See there? Calls to the U.S. and Canada are free in 2012. If there is anything I love more than free voice calling, it's another year of entirely free calling through Google Voice. And to think...several years ago people were feeding money to machines at gas stations just to make phone calls. If you don't already have Google Voice, pick it up below. Google Voice Read More
