posted by Joe Rossignol on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 11:01 am.   Rovio Mobile has updated the insanely popular Angry Birds game to version 2.0, which includes 15 new birthday cake levels to celebrate the game’s second birthday. The popular bird-slinging game now has three hundred levels to unlock. Angry Birds debuted on iOS in December 2009 and has since expanded to multiple platforms including Android, PlayStation 3 and PSP, Symbian, Maemo, Microsoft Windows, and Mac OS X. The game has experienced phenomenal success in its first two years, with downloads surpassing 350 million in September and then topping 500 million less than two months later. Spinoff versions of the game have also been equally as successful, including Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Seasons. Version 2.0 of Angry Birds features spiffy new menus and graphics, a new expandable orange bird first seen in the Halloween edition of Angry Birds Read More
'Angry Birds' Celebrates Its Birthday With Barnes & Noble
Calendar16 Sun, 11 Dec 2011 16:01:31 UTC +00:00
Rovio Mobile is celebrating the second "birthday" of Angry Birds [$.99 / Lite / HD / HD Lite] in style. Of course, the app has been updated with new levels -- specifically, 15 birthday-themed levels, complete with cake and candles and hats. But Rovio is also taking the celebration to the streets. Starting at 11AM, Barnes & Noble stores around the country are holding exclusive events complete with prize raffles and Mighty Eagle scavenger hunts. As we revealed on Twitter, Barnes & Nobles at The Grove in Los Angeles is probably going to be the best place to see this party in action. Rovio's North American GM will be there, and he'll apparently be carrying tons of swag with him. If you're going to go, send us some pictures. We'd love to see that "Birds & Noble" sign in particular. Love it or hate it, Angry Birds is huge. And it's Read More
Apple has posted its iTunes Rewind 2011 page, where it has spotlighted the best and most popular content on the App Store. Singer Adele has won Apple's best artist of the year, while the Foo Fighters picked up the spot for best album on the store. Modern Family, Breaking Bad, Parks and Recreation, and Downton Abbey (all terrific TV shows) are spotlighted in the TV area, and Apple has also chosen winners for the books and movies categories. The Best Audio Podcast on the store is one done by the Epic Meal Time guys, and the Best Video Podcast goes to the very popular TED Talks (which also has its own app). Apple has also picked some iOS apps of the year: Instagram and Snapseed are the best iPhone and iPad apps of the year (both photo-related, strangely), and Nimblebit's great Tiny Tower and EA's Dead Space are the best games Read More
Apple Picks Instagram As The “iPhone App Of The Year”
Calendar16 Thu, 08 Dec 2011 18:14:04 UTC +00:00
Apple released its iTunes Rewind 2011 and App Store Rewind 2011 today, the company’s annual lists detailing of the top selling apps, music, TV shows, movies and podcasts for the year. This year, the biggest winner on the apps front was Angry Birds, which ran away with the number one spot on the iPhone and iPad in all categories except top free iPhone app, which was awarded to Facebook. Apple also selects its own favorite applications, and one of our preferred apps, Instagram, won the honor of being Apple’s “iPhone App of the Year.” Angry Birds, which is available on iOS as both a paid and free application, not only dominated the year-end lists as the number one download in several cases, it also occupied additional slots on multiple lists for its spinoffs, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio. Several other games also appeared on the year-end listings, including Fruit Ninja, Read More

Australian band Hey Geronimo understands that shooting a video featuring some of our favorite games, namely Plants vs. Zombies, Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Flight Control, and Fruit Ninja, is always a sure hit with iOS geeks like us, especially when you bring those games to life… The music is actually pretty good, too! App Showdown: Wikipedia Apps
Calendar16 Tue, 01 Nov 2011 17:30:00 UTC +00:00
Posted 11/01/2011 at 9:30am | by J Keirn-Swanson There are almost as many Wikipedia-based apps as there are articles in Wikipedia. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but there are tons of apps that help put everyone's favorite online source of data in your pocket. While you could read Wikipedia’s article on apps, we think our article is much better [need citation]. Articles is a pretty skin for Wikipedia whether in its iPhone or iPad version. Sophiestication Software has chosen a pleasing design for replicating articles. Everything is laid out like a very well designed one-columned magazine with light sepia toning to the page.  A very nice looking layout wins you lots of points with Steve Navigation buttons as discrete as Safari’s, running across the top on the iPad and bottom on the iPhone. That's not the only place it resembles mobile Safari, as multiple pages can be loaded and accessed very similarly Read More

The hardest thing about reviewing Pigs in Trees [99c / HD] is deciding which part to praise first, because there's just so many things I like about it. Launching the app leads into a delightful animated trailer which introduces the family of pigs who reside in a tree and the woodpeckers, who (obviously) like to peck on wood.  Did you spot the tension there? (Hint: They both want the tree.) This game from PAN Vision and Tactile Entertainment represents a role reversal from Angry Birds [99c / Lite] as the pigs are the good guys and the aggressive birds are the nasty villains. Pigs in Trees will easily draw comparisons to Flight Control [99c] or Harbor Master [$1.99], since you use your finger to draw the flight path for a vehicle, from a top-down 2D perspective. In this game, the piggy fighter-pilot is trying to eliminate the noisy incoming woodpeckers, before Read More

By Leanna Lofte, Monday, Jul 25, 2011 | Angry Birds has been updated with 15 new levels. Mining and Dining with the burrowing piggies continues! With a bottomless appetite, the bad piggies have burrowed deep in underground caverns to hide the eggs they stole from you. Use the landscape and geology to your advantage to chase the pigs out of their hiding holes, gather rare gems, and retrieve the eggs! With the release of Angry Birds Rio, I was expecting new content on the original Angry Birds to quickly cease. I’m so glad I was wrong. This Week at 148Apps: July 18-22
Calendar16 Sat, 23 Jul 2011 18:49:20 UTC +00:00
By Chris Kirby on July 23rd, 2011 This week, July 18-22, 148Apps makes an editorial change, app hunger continues to build, and children can now throw former president's heads at invading aliens. This week, July 18-22, 148Apps took a bold new step by acknowledging the changing landscape of iOS gaming and reviewing so-called “freemium” and ad-supported games. Though these new terms for games are sometimes used interchangeably, Rob LeFebvre writes, “We had to make sure that all of our writers were approaching these games from the same angle. Let’s face it, all free games are not created equal. So we created a short term list for our writers, to help us all get on the same page when talking about them.” Read more about this new glossary-in-progress here. Over on sister site Giggleapps, reviews included the oddly-named but strangely compelling Presidents Vs. Aliens, where children are rewarded for knowing various facts Read More
Last March, Minigore [99¢/HD] developer Mountain Sheep teamed up with Remedy and Cornfox & Bros. to bring us Death Rally [99¢], a fantastic remake of a classic PC combat racing game. During Death Rally’s development, Mountain Sheep also had another project being kept warm on the back burner that was again the product of a developer team-up, this time with Aqua Globs [99¢/Lite/HD] creator Qwiboo with a little bit of Angry Birds [99¢/HD] music composer Ari Pulkkinen thrown in for good measure. The developers involved in the project announced in our forums last week that this new game will be called Bike Baron, and today we have the first trailer for the game. Bike Baron is basically a Trials HD-like motorcycle stunt game, but instead of an industrial themed art style it has more of a cartoonish, lighthearted vibe. The “Bike Baron” himself totally reminds me of Dick Dastardly crossed with Read More

RC Plane 2 is Ultimate iOS Flight Simulator

07.15.11        App Score: 9/10    RC Plane 2 flight simulator app for iPhone is a chance to relive childhood dreams. Over the years, my fear of flight has left, but my interest in planes has remained and therefore I have logged my fair share of hours in various flight simulators. One that I’ve really enjoyed lately is the app for iPhone and iPad. Its combination of difficulty, plane selections and interesting camera views have made for a lot of entertainment. If you’re new to this type of app, then The RC Plane 2 iOS flight simulator will be a bit difficult to jump straight into gameplay. I would suggest starting out with the flight school, which will bring you through everything from taking off to landing and the basics of controlling a 3 channel and 4 channel RC plane. While taking off is the easiest, coming down and Read More

The iPhone version of the game has just been updated with 15 new levels, and unlimited use of the Mighty Eagle when you purchase it just once. It might take some of the fun out of the game, but why not plow right through it to take a peek at all the new levels? I know I would after this game has sucked so much of my life over the last 15 months. Here are the details of the new update: If the game has been getting pretty stale to you, perhaps this is the makeover you need to get things going again. And if you’ve yet to pick it up, it’s only $0.99 for the iPhone and $4.99 for the HD Read More
T-Mobile ad illustrates Angry Birds' immense popularity

One app that has grown from an iPhone hit to a worldwide phenomenon is Rovio Mobile's Angry Birds. Whether you're a fan of knocking over pigs and structures by flinging birds, or go berserk when you hear the Angry Birds theme music, you have to admit that the popularity of what was originally a simple iOS game it pretty amazing. Now T-Mobile is capitalizing on Angry Birds fever with a clever YouTube video titled Angry Birds Live. A human-scaled mockup of the Angry Birds world was created in a square in Barcelona, with lucky participants using the game on a smartphone to launch birds on their castle-smashing journey. It includes authentic sounds effects and exploding pigs, and was obviously popular judging from the size of the crowd that appears. The ad isn't iPhone-specific, noting that T-Mobile has the "widest range of smartphones," but the carrier does sell the iPhone outside of Read More
i3D Brings Stunning Sans-Glasses 3D to iPad

We can't wait for this software to be licensed and used in actual apps. If you haven't seen - or don't remember - the video from last month then you can check it out below. Suffice to say that it's very exciting stuff for iOS gaming and just about any app you can imagine. From Star Walk to Angry Birds , there aren't many apps in the App Store that wouldn't benefit from a little 3D tossed in for fun. 'Bizango Blast' Takes 'Angry Birds' to the Third Dimension
Calendar16 Mon, 23 May 2011 17:37:15 UTC +00:00
A one-man games development guru has decided, with the visual might of the Unreal Development Kit, to add a new dimension to Crush the Castle [$.99] catapult games. I’m not talking about time, here; nah, I’m talking about 3D. It’s a good idea, and if plans stay firm, you’ll be able to check out what “Archer X” is coming up with a little later this month or in June. So far, he’s drained two months into the project and is looking for some feedback based on the video embedded just below. The game you’re seeing is called “Bizango Blast” and there are a few twists that separate it from its influencers. First, and most important of all, is the catapult. As of right now, it appears as though you’ll be locked into a singular perspective before firing -- one that will require you to fire your balls of tower-death into specific Read More

This week, February 13-20, Apple launched subscription services for applications, meaning that developers must offer an in-app purchase option if they offer an outside-app purchase option, like a newspaper does through its website. For example, if Company A offers a monthly service charge of $10 for its articles, and it has an application on the App Store, it must now offer that same deal for the same price ($10) or less through its iOS application. Here’s the catch – that $10 is subject to Apple’s 30% commission policy. “Apple feels as though they are providing lots of new users for these services and Apple wants to be compensated for that. That makes sense. They are providing a service and bringing Read More

Rovio: Nokia is probably beyond saving at this point

After all not many games are turned into board games and animated series. Moreover, we don’t get to see mobile game developers teaming-up with major studios like 20th Century Fox every day… Angry Birds is available on a number of platforms, including iOS, Android and Symbian S60. Bookwalter In the last few weeks, many pundits have predicted that 2011 will be the year that Google’s Android explodes in popularity -- but at least one major iPhone game developer is planning to keep most of its eggs in Apple’s basket, so to speak. AppleInsider is reporting that an executive at Angry Birds developer Rovio Mobile claims that Apple will continue to be the number one platform for a long time. Calling the Android platform “fragmented,” Rovio’s Peter Vesterbacka told Tech ’N Marketing this week that Apple has nothing to fear and they’ll continue to be the number one platform for developers. Rovio’s Angry Birds has become something of a phenomenon in iOS gaming. Despite a slow start after its release a year ago, the title has since reached a whopping 50 million downloads across all platforms and remained in the number one Read More

Angry Birds for iPhone, iPad updated with Mighty Eagle
Calendar16 Thu, 23 Dec 2010 19:42:47 UTC +00:00
The runaway hit app for the iPhone and iPad this year is undoubtedly Angry Birds. The app has been downloaded approximately a bazillion times and has killed productivity everywhere for the year 2010. Rovio has given us Christmas/holiday versions along with a creepy Halloween version of the avian-versus-swine game. Now, before the year is through, a new update delivers the mega-bird that made its debut on Symbian: the Mighty Eagle. Do you love Angry Birds but find it difficult to make it through some of the levels? That’s what the Mighty Eagle character is for. Whenever you find the pig fortresses to be a little overwhelming, and you become infuriated with their snorting and mockery of you, just tap the Mighty Eagle icon up top and a can of tuna will appear on the slingshot. Hurl it at the piggy fortress and out comes a big, whopping, ass-kicking bird that just Read More

TUAW's Daily App: Trucks and Skulls
Calendar16 Tue, 07 Dec 2010 13:00:00 UTC +00:00
I'll be honest, at the expense of disagreeing with some of you: I don't really like Angry Birds. Sure, I'll admit it's a quality app, and I obviously can't deny all of those sales. But personally, it's just not my game -- I don't find it nearly as fun as some of the other games on the App Store. That said, I know plenty of people enjoy Angry Birds, and for those people, Trucks and Skulls will probably scratch the same itch. Gameplay is almost exactly the same, except instead of birds, you're throwing trucks, and instead of pigs, you're attacking ... well, you can probably guess. There are a few new mechanics, a full level maker and screenshot sharing service, and the stages are obviously different, but otherwise, it's more of the physics puzzle goodness that Angry Birds has, only done with a heavy metal, death trucker aesthetic. Heck, maybe Read More

As it turns out, you don’t have to wonder any longer -- Apple has created a section dedicated to what they consider the best 50 apps. Opinions may vary from user to user as to what constitutes the best iOS apps, but Apple has some ideas of their own and they’ve created a new page of the best 50 in their opinion which they call the App Store Essentials Hall of Fame. Rovio is one super successful company. At this point, they just seem to be counting the money, possibly even thinking about retirement on some fancy island. The company’s Angry Birds game has just crossed the 10 million downloads mark in Apple’s AppStore. Add other platforms and free downloads to the mix and you get to the 30 million figure. To put this number in a perspective, Michael Jackson’s Bad and Pink Floyd’s The Wall — aka both well-known albums — haven’t been bought by that many people. The physics of Angry Birds: just how fat is the red bird?

, proving yet again that it strives to cover only the most important and socially conscientious news, has published a couple of stories on the physics of Angry Birds. In the first part, the height of the slingshot and red bird are discussed, while the second part deals with an even stickier question: does the Angry Blue Bird multiply its mass? Angry Birds, if you're not "with it," is a physics game for iOS, Android, and even Palm's webOS. You load birds into a slingshot and then fling them across the map, hoping to either hit some pigs or cause other objects to squash some pigs. I can't say that the game's questionable physics have kept me awake long into the night, but I'm definitely not surprised that someone, somewhere has decided to write about it. This is the Internet, after all. It turns out that the red bird is 70cm Read More

If there's anything I love to read, it's analysis of the commonplace items in our lives by physicists, engineers, and mathematicians. That's why I was attracted to a recent Wired Dot Physics post by physicist Rhett Allain in which he did a Tracker video analysis of the most important characters in Angry Birds -- the birds. By using the official Angry Birds walkthrough videos on YouTube with Tracker, Allain was able to determine several important factors -- that the birds exist in a drag-free world (no air resistance), that the sling shot is huge (5 meters -- 16 feet) tall, and the birds are good-sized as well. Y'know that little red bird? He's about 70 cm (27.6 inches) tall. That's a big bird! To see how Allain used Tracker to plot the horizontal and vertical motion of the birds in flight, follow his analysis, and review his assumptions, be sure check Read More
Physics of Angry Birds? Yes. Yes indeed. If you’ve yet to play Angry Birds, I’m willing to bet you’ve at least glimpsed its icon floating on the App Store’s charts. For good reason, too; it’s an addictive game. The basic formula is a bunch of angry birds, a slingshot, and the egg-stealing pigs and their castles. The goal of this little physics game is to demolish each and every one of the aforementioned castles—but does Angry Birds actually follow the rules of physics? Apparently one of Wired’s writers, Rhet Allain, just couldn’t stop thinking about the posibilities: But what about the physics? Do the birds have a constant vertical acceleration? Do they have constant horizontal velocity? Let’s find out, shall we? Oh, why would I do this? Why can’t I just play the dumb game and move on. That is not how I roll. I will analyze this, and you can’t Read More

British Prime Minister David Cameron loves Angry Birds!

If you haven’t heard about Angry Birds you’re, let’s say, not that into mobile technology. It’s a fair point to say not all of us love playing games on our mobile phones. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know what’s Angry Birds all about. The game has been downloaded for more than 5 million times from various mobile app stores — including Apple’s AppStore, Google’s Android Market and Nokia’s Ovi Store — and is definitely one of the most popular titles like ever. So we were not surprised to learn some celebrities love the game, too. Conan O’Brien is on that list and so are Cory Monteith and British Prime Minister David Cameron. The last mentioned came as a pleasant surprise – the first man of the UK government is reportedly the huge Angry Birds fan which is cool to know, especially if you (like me) also love the game. Apple recently unveiled a new Game Center web page detailing the features of the service and revealed that the 2nd Generation iPod touch will also be a Game Center-capable device. After delaying the Game Center release to iOS 4.1, Apple had previously announced that it would only be available on 3rd generation devices and newer. This latest development only leaves the first generation iPod touch and both the original iPhone and iPhone 3G out in the cold. Game Center is launching soon with iOS 4.1 and already developers are committing to supporting it in their games. Five addictive iPhone games to kill some time

You can play right away, quit whenever you want, and keep building up those high scores. Some iPhone games are more addictive than others, though. For many reasons, these five keep me coming back. It could be the quest for new items and higher scores, the quick learning curve, or the great graphics, but each of these games has its own unique combo of attributes that add up to high replay value. I got to meet the creators of Angry Birds back at E3 earlier this year, but because of our busy schedules, didn't get too much of a chance to really talk with them in-depth about their experience on the App Store so far. Fortunately, GamesBeat has done just that, providing a nice profile of Rovio's Peter Vesterbacka and Mikael Hed, the two Finnish creators of one of the App Store's most popular titles. They're actually mobile app veterans -- while Angry Birds is their biggest hit as a company, they've also developed for lots of other groups, including Real Networks and Electronic Arts. The game was created to be casual, open to anyone to play, and use some really memorable characters that would resonate with anyone who picked it up. The 30 Best iPhone Apps So Far This Year
Calendar16 Sat, 07 Aug 2010 18:12:54 UTC +00:00
Editor’s note: This guest post is written by Alex Ahlund, the former CEO and founder of AppVee and AndroidApps, which were acquired by mobile application directory Appolicious. About this time last year, he gave us his picks of the best iPhone apps of 2009 up until then, so we thought we’d make it an annual tradition. I’ve been involved in the iPhone app industry since it first began in 2008 and I have to say that it has come a long way. I’ve seen it grow from a meager launch of 500 applications in the App Store to currently over 225,000. In only two years, the industry has matured at hyperspeed. It spawned an entire ecosystem to support it from a multitude of news and editorial resources to developer engines, promotional services and ancillary niches. With over five billion app downloads and a billion dollars at stake, it’s no surprise that Read More
In the hit-based market of the App Store, it's somewhat expected at this point to see developers building games which seem to be highly inspired by other extremely successful games-- In this case, Angry Birds [99¢ / Free / HD]. When Flight Control [99¢ / HD] was burning up the charts, Harbor Master [$1.99 / Free / HD] was released, providing some variety on an incredibly popular game type which iPhone gamers gobbled up at the time. It's hard to say if Cannon Cadets will be able to duplicate the same phenomenon, but judging by the trailer it seems to have some very familiar physics-powered cannon gameplay with some new twists such as moving platforms and hidden levels accessible by hitting targets. As someone who has completely obliterated every level of Angry Birds on both my iPhone and then again on the iPad, I can't wait for more content both from Read More

What games has he chosen to receive this honor? Angry Birds, Danger Dodgeball, and Fruit Ninja. Read on for the full reviews! So, do you agree? Have another suggestion? Making the switch to Apple? Get the perfect setup
Calendar16 Wed, 28 Jul 2010 03:26:41 UTC +00:00
With the undeniable popularity and success of the iPhone 4 (despite the antenna debacle), iPad, and ever-increasing Mac sales, Apple is gaining customers faster than ever. If you're thinking about making the switch, this could be your perfect setup. Component one: iPhone 4 Now in its fourth iteration, Apple's iPhone has forever changed the mobile phone landscape by thrusting touch-screen technology to the tips of every tech geek's tongue and every consumer's wish list. Despite its early and somewhat overblown issues, iPhone 4 has had record-setting sales. With the exception of the complaints from a vocal minority regarding its antenna, critics love the iPhone 4. Think of iPhone 4 as your mobile communications component in this setup. With it, you can send text messages; make calls; send e-mail, instant messages, and tweets; update Facebook; and check in with Foursquare. Of course, you can play games and download other apps to the Read More
Rovio has released another free update for its highly popular iPhone/iPod Touch game – Angry Birds. Called “BIG BROTHER’S REVENGE,” it comes with 15 new levels, a new world and a new bird. In addition, there are new achievements to be earned, a new story and a golden egg to located. Facebook and Twitter integrations are also included in the mix, so you can share your scores with your buddies so they know you’re working on an “important project” which mustn’t be interrupted. If you’re not aware what’s Angry Birds all about, you should it’s a super-addictive puzzle action game that will definitely keep you entertained while on the go. Bare in mind, that you’re downloading the game at your own risk. It can definitely eat your time, like not that many other games can (Doodle Jump is another such title). But what am I saying? Topping the App Store charts with Angry Birds
Calendar16 Thu, 24 Jun 2010 18:00:00 UTC +00:00
Angry Birds is one of the growing number of phenomenal success stories coming out of the App Store. It's a simple game; you drag birds in a slingshot in order to try and get them to knock down structures and hit green pigs. It's really resonated with audiences, though, and just like we heard with Doodle Jump, a string of constant free updates has propelled it to the top of the charts. I got to talk to Mikael and Niklas Hed, cousins and chief officers at Rovio Mobile (the company behind Angry Birds), last week at E3 about their game and its success so far. They told me that the game has had four million downloads to date across, both, its paid and lite versions, and they said that they'll keep updating it "as long as the underlying market keeps growing." I asked them why they have chosen this model of Read More
So You Just Got an iPhone 4 – An App Store Gaming Guide
Calendar16 Thu, 24 Jun 2010 08:20:31 UTC +00:00
If you're one of the lucky ones you managed to secure themselves an iPhone 4 today (or even the past two days if you're really lucky) you've no doubt marveled at how thin it is, how crisp the Retina Display is, and maybe you've even found someone else to do a FaceTime call with... but what about loading it up with some games? Since we haven't gotten our own iPhone 4's yet, we haven't really been able to put together a "games that are really awesome on the iPhone 4" listing, but I figured we'd start out by compiling a list of some of our favorite games in the App Store. If you think this looks a lot like our 2009 Buyer's Guide, that's because it does. However, we've updated the list with some of our recent favorites and kept some of the old ones. In the interest of space, we Read More
When the story came out saying that Microsoft may be offering cash to tempt popular iPhone app developers and publishers to create for their platform, it left us wondering who would take the offer. Thanks to the publisher of Angry Birds, we finally have some insight into how they will respond. The San Francisco Chronicle recently interviewed Joe Wee, the director of mobile application publisher Chillingo. Chillingo has had six games which have reached #1 in the App Store. One of those titles, Angry Birds, has sold over 4 million copies. According to Joe Wee, he gets calls on a daily basis from both Microsoft and Google but so far he has turned them down. Why? He’s ignoring their requests for now because Apple iOS is the only “commercially viable” mobile platform for him. Chillingo is obviously having great success by targeting a low price and high volume market. With iOS Read More

'Angry Birds' Update is Even More Angry Than the Last.
Calendar16 Wed, 19 May 2010 17:23:12 UTC +00:00
Clickgamer's Angry Birds [99¢ / Free] has been one of my favorite games since it was first launched in December of last year. We thought the game was great in our review, and since then, Angry Birds has only gotten better with the surprising amount of extra content that has been added to the game via updates. Angry Birds is a game that could easily be described with any number of cliches such as "easy to play, difficult to master", "polished", "addictive", and others. When it comes down to it, what makes Angry Birds great is how incredibly accessible the game is to everyone, even non-gamers. Gameplay amounts to a number of different birds, each with different abilities, loading themselves in to a slingshot. You then use a single finger to fling them at a fort filled with smug, smiling pigs. There isn't really any quick reaction elements to the game, Read More
Marco Arment has noticed a growing problem on the App Store; as hits emerge from among the free and paid apps, some companies are doing a little search scamming. They're ripping off the names, styles, and sometimes even the art of popular iPhone apps. He went to get the popular Angry Birds game and found that there are companies actually selling apps with "Cheats" and "Trivia" added on to the titles, often reusing the artwork from the original game. Certainly, some of these fall into a legal gray area (Angry Bird is technically another game, even though it's obviously hopping on the back of the more popular title), but some of them are straight up scams, and the angry reviews and terrible ratings prove that's the case. Arment calls out a few companies (whose titles are still on the App Store, as of this writing). He says that developers who feel Read More

'Angry Birds' Gets Even More Awesome With Latest Update
Calendar16 Mon, 26 Apr 2010 14:00:03 UTC +00:00
It's hard to say enough good things about Rovio's furious catapult game, Angry Birds [iPhone: 99¢ / Free - iPad: $4.99]. The game is set in a surprisingly cute game world where smug green pigs steal the eggs of a band of nearby birds. Naturally, this makes the birds very angry. They then decide the best way to get revenge on the pigs is by loading themselves up in catapults and slamming in to the pig fortress that makes up each of the included levels. The previous update added a bunch of new levels, and this latest update not only packs even more levels in to the mix but also a brand new bird with a special ability that sends it flying backwards like a boomerang for massive pig mayhem. New block types are included that make up the pig defenses including a mattress to bounce off of. There's a new Read More

Physics games can be found in every corner of the app store nowadays. There are so many of them, it is hard to find a quality one out there. Angry Birds is another physics-based game which focuses on knocking down different structures and crushing every pig found inside. Stars are earned for each level based on how many launches it takes to crush every one. The gameplay is very simple. Users start a launch from the slingshot and depending on what bird is being launched, they might have to tap again to activate the ability. The game features some wacky birds each with their own unique abilities. After passing various sections, different birds will be unlocked and the user's ability to use each bird's various skills will determine if they pass the level or not. The graphics and sound effects of this game really show off how much thought went into Read More
Forget these fancy pants new kids on the block like Popcaps and their mind-blowingly huge Plants vs Zombies title — if you’re a real gamer, you’ll be spending your cash on Final Fantasy I and II for $8.99 a pop. That’s what most of the sites are saying, anyway. I would actually much rather play Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies, or the newly released Tilt to Live than relive a Japenese RPG experience dating back to 1987. I guess I just don’t like grinding (in the non-sexy dancing way) against monsters for hours upon hours on end and rotating between “attack” and my various basic elemental spells. I’ll stop there, though. I don’t want to grinch up everyone else’s childhood/youth gaming experiences, so I’ll just end this post with some handy iTunes links: Read More
Review: Angry Birds [iPhone App Reviews]
Calendar16 Wed, 24 Feb 2010 20:09:57 UTC +00:00
It’s like knocking over dominoes with dynamite. It’s like “making it bacon”, but in a hilarious and not-so-yummy kind of way. The name of the game is Angry Birds, and you’ll be shooting a lot of them out of a slingshot to kill some evil green piggies in one of the most spectacularly stylish physics-based puzzle games to hit the iPhone thus far. Premise Birds love their eggs, and these disgusting green pigs stole some and made omelettes, so it’s time for revenge. The pigs think they’re safe in their various stone, glass, and wood fortifications, but they thought wrong. It turns out that the Big Bad Wolf has nothing on a set of angry birds, and they’ll do a lot more than blow a house down. The goal of the game is simple: complete each level by killing all of the pigs before you run out of birds to fire Read More
Editor-in-Chief, iLounge Published: Monday, February 1, 2010 Category: iPod, iPhone, and iPad Gems: Apps, Games + More It’s an animal-themed edition of iPhone Gems this week, as we take a look at four recent games filled with feathery, furry, and—uh—weird, customizable creatures. From the bird-slingshot titles Angry Birds and Bird Strike to the latest sporting adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and the new edition of the animal-creating game Spore, there’s plenty to see inside, with prices ranging from a mere dollar all the way up to $7. Our top pick of the week is the budget title Angry Birds, but we also liked Bird Strike. Read on for all the details. Angry Birds Of all of the titles featured in this edition of Gems, we were most impressed by Clickgamer’s Angry Birds ($1), a small but very cool game that uses cartoony art and physics to great effect. Three solid physics games get some solid updates! Three games from relatively recent reviews have all received robust updates of late. Forgive me if these aren’t exactly “new,” but if you passed on these games in the past due to concerns about content, take note: now’s the time to try them again. Angry Birds Clickgamer’s Angry Birds won my heart with its quirky style and cheerful, bizarre art. One feature that was notably absent from the birds-in-a-slingshot game, however, was online high scores. The 1.2 update remedied that with Crystal integration, which brings leaderboards and achievements. It also included 42 new levels for an already-great game. $0.99 Released: 2009-12-11 :: Category: Games $0.99 Released: 2010-01-18 :: Category: Games Doodle Bomb Back when I looked at Doodle Bomb, I just didn’t find it challenging enough, and it took too long to reach the harder “master” levels. Notable Game Updates – February 7-February 13
Calendar16 Sat, 13 Feb 2010 23:24:32 UTC +00:00
Angry Birds [App Store]Current Version: 1.2.0 The newest update for Angry Birds is nearly worthy of being a standalone sequel, with 42 new levels across two new graphically unique worlds to play through. Crystal has been been added for leaderboard and achievement support for high score/points junkies, and changes have even been made to older levels, mostly in the form of bug fixes, but with some small graphical enhancements thrown in there as well. I fell in love with Angry Birds when I first reviewed it, so you can bet that I'll be cranking up the game as soon as I get the chance. Bird Strike was only released about a month ago, so it's a nice surprise to see an entirely new game mode (in the form of "Endless Climb mode") make its way into the game. The new mode really raises the value of the game, but the price Read More

Upcoming 'Angry Birds' Update Adds 40 New Levels
Calendar16 Tue, 02 Feb 2010 20:51:24 UTC +00:00
We just got word from Chillingo's Clickgamer that an Angry Birds [App Store] update is in the works that adds 40 new levels, two new environments, and complete Crystal integration for online leaderboards, achievements, and all the other fun stuff Crystal provides. They're planning on submitting the update "very soon", and even released a new trailer for the game that is easily one of the better iPhone game trailers I've seen recently: is a catapult game where you assist several angry birds as they seek revenge on a gang of egg-stealing green pigs. From our review: We also discussed Angry Birds in our recent podcast, and I really recommend giving the game a look, as I've sunk an unbelievably amount of time recently in to total pig destruction. This new update (especially with online leaderboards) is just going to make this great game even better.   #3   Today, 06:57 PM Read More

Chillingo’s sister publishing house is finally hitting its stride no thanks less to this game and a couple of others. Let’s find out why! We’ve been on a little tour de force of iPhone puzzle games, and this Clickgamer offering furthers the genre even more. Angry Birds captured our hearts with its cute graphics and quirky sound effects that it becomes so difficult to pass this game up. Just be warned, putting it down is even harder to resist! Presentation Sorry to the men, but I gotta admit, the graphics in Angry Birds are really cute. There are a couple different birds, from a normal bird, a bird I like to call the bomb bird (use your imagination) and many more. There are 3 types of environments, each different graphics, with different obstacles and enemies. The enemies change, sometimes wearing helmets which make it harder to kill them. I’m really liking Read More

Read More
When you see a game with a name as nondescript as Angry Birds [App Store], it's pretty hard to get excited. Even after playing through the first few levels, I was enjoying this game, but failing to see the real appeal. Sticking with Angry Birds for more than 30 minutes, however, reveals a game that can easily be compared (both by the design and quality) to the Wii's family-friendly hit, Boom Blox, and turns out to be a lot of fun. Angry Birds is a game that doesn't even pretend to have a story, and I really appreciate that. The full intro to the game is a single picture which illustrates some green pigs stealing eggs from a variety of birds. Naturally, the only way for the birds to vindicate this atrocity is to launch themselves from a slingshot in a suicidal attempt to take the lives of as many pigs as possible. I like Read More
If I told you Angry Birds was a game where you hurl birds at some snarky pigs who stole their precious eggs to have for breakfast, then you’d probably pass it off.  I’m here to inform you that Clickgamer’s Angry Birds is a game worth your time and your money. The story isn’t really what’s important here, the gameplay and is where it’s at.  You play through different levels where the pigs have set up various objects to defend themselves from the bird onslaught.  Glass, wood, even concrete are used to block your attacks and each material reacts as they would in the real world.  Glass shatters as soon as it’s hit, wood requires a bit more work to break through, while concrete is even tougher. As you fire your birds, the game reminds you of your previous attempt by ways of a dotted line.  This helps in planning out your Read More

Absolutely Beautiful Game!
Rich_952000 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
It's like playing a cartoon. Fun with physics:) If you like smash the castle style games: don't miss Angry Birds. Please, Rovio and Clickgamer, give us Open Feint or any global leaderboards for that matter.
Ad on the reload screen?
Dave Libby 1.0 stars Version: 1.5.3
Game is fun, but they're getting too aggressive with the Rovio news, ads etc. It's not necessary in a paid app that we're already clearly fans of.
Not any more
Pad10one 1.0 stars Version: 1.5.3
This app was great until that latest update. Now loaded with annoying popups and game freezes constantly. Not what I expect from a paid app. get rid of the ads and annoying popups.
Hate the new adds
Adrian Swingler 4.0 stars Version: 1.5.3
I would of given this 5 stars but the new adds are VERY ANOYING! I paid $ for this app so I do not want adds! There already is a version with adds so don't add it to the paid version. The adds also make it take longer to restart the level. TAKE THE ADDS OUT!!!
Adds???
Joeyiscool26 1.0 stars Version: 1.5.3
That's sad that we have to see adds on a paid app.
Ads?!?!?!
traviam 1.0 stars Version: 1.5.3
Dude, I paid money for this game. Why have you included ads that now pop up between every level?!? Are you kidding me?! Angry Birds News Blog?!? Why would I ever want a plush toy or t-shirt when all it would do is create more advertisements?!? I don't think you should advertise for a game on the very game itself - especially not when you've already purchased the product.
I dont want to know Rovio News.
GwangSu Lee 1.0 stars Version: 1.5.3
WTF???? I dont want to know Rovio News. I just want to play AngryBird. OK?
Gifting button and Bloat
Trent Taylor 1.0 stars Version: 1.5.3
How difficult is it to just put that stupid button on the last page with all the other crap?Instead it's left at the top corner where you can accidentally tap it, get booted from the game, have safari open, get redirected to iTunes, have iTunes open and ask for your password, THEN you get told you're about to gift someone the app.Fantastic!! A solution to a problem no one ever had that uses several programs and causes a bad user experience. I can just go on the AppStore and click a button for the same result. If that wasn't enough the devs have now added a "Roxio News" feed in the pause menu... One tap and you're again booted from the game and taken to safari. No way of disabling any of it. You're forced to take it and avoid the bloat that continues to grow with these last 4 updates.
Bad

Why the hell are there ads in a game that was paid for!?
Every update makes this game worse
Paul Grigor 1.0 stars Version: 1.5.3
Now the game simply refuses to launch. I want my money back!
Pay for ads?
isignmousepads 1.0 stars Version: 1.5.3
Unbelievable....now we are paying for ads instead of to get rid of them.....
For shame.
Brad Forsyth 1.0 stars Version: 1.6.3
This app is LOADED with ads. A paid app should NOT have any ads, especially when Rovio has already made millions from this one app alone, not to mention all the other versions of Angry Birds. Perhaps if the app wasn't so bogged down with ads, the game might actually perform better. Shame on Rovio for such greedy business practices!
Amazing game
