Around the world with Geo Walk (TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog)

Geo Walk is a clever little iPhone app from Vito Technology, the developers who produced the breathtaking Star Walk astronomy app for the iPad and iPhone. Geo Walk doesn't explore deep space; it explores our own varied planet. You start with a 3D globe and spin it to any part of the world you want to explore. Little bubbles appear, and you can click on them to get interesting info on places, historical figures, flora, and fauna. Think of Geo Walk as a world fact book at your fingertips. There are 300 entries in the app, each with photos and text. You can filter the objects displayed, so if you are only interested in visiting places, you can do that. The app is very responsive to touch, and the interface is clever. The only problem I see is that it is light on information; usually, there is no more than a

Vito Technology's new Geo Walk app places articles in geographical perspective. Vito Technology has wowed us before with their beautiful Star Walk stargazing app. Now they’re trying their hands at another educational project. This time, it’s a world factbook, but with a twist. Geo Walk is a concise, limited encyclopedia that focuses on a global view—literally. The app presents you with an icon-dotted globe, and you can tap any of the markers to read about that particular area and its points of interest. This is great for putting articles into geographical perspective. The pyramids hover over Egypt, while spinning over to Antarctica might show you penguins. Don’t know where something is? No problem; you can switch to an object list. The application features three main categories: Place, Flora & Fauna, and People. Each entry boasts a colorful picture and a small article about the object. (Willis Tower is the fifth-largest tower

Macworld Expo 2011: Vito Technology updates the Walk apps (TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog)

Russian company Vito Technology was in one of the booths around the Mobile App Showcase at Macworld 2011 last week, and they kindly sat down to show off new versions of their apps, all coming up in the next month or so as free updates on the App Store. Popular astronomy app Star Walk was first. It's getting a visual enhancement in the next version, with a brand new sky and a new look to the stars that's more visually interesting than the current setup. The other feature that will be added is a "calendar of celestial events," where things like meteor showers or lunar eclipses will be tracked (per your location) so that you can see when something interesting is coming up. Later on, Vito wants to add other cultural displays to the app, including constellation charts and other star maps from Hawaiian, Arabic and Native American viewpoints. Star Walk

TUAW's Daily App: Geo Walk (TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog)

Geo Walk is an interesting title from Vito Technology, the folks behind the popular Star Walk and Solar Walk apps. They originally released Geo Walk a little less than a year ago, but the app wasn't quite as developed as their other titles (and presumably didn't do as well as those either). So Vito went back to the drawing board, revamped the app completely, and the new version is now available on the App Store, at 99 cents for the iPhone, or $2.99 for the iPad. The new app is still an educational title focusing on giving information about various places, people, and plants and animals from different areas all over the world, and rather than just a 3D globe, there are now a few different views, including a new card view to check out. There's also a new quiz mode, which asks questions based on the information on the cards,
