KaleidoVid Video Kaleidoscope for iPhone (The iPhone Blog)

By Rene Ritchie, Tuesday, Mar 16, 2010 | Pop quiz: you’re a successful independent iPhone developer who’s personal management apps are beloved by critics and users alike, but you just really need a break, a way to recharge the batteries and have some non-managed fun, what do you do? If you’re App Cubby‘s David Barnard, you grab Polar Bear Farm‘s Layton Duncan and Made by Rocket‘s Dave Keller and you produce KaleidoVid [$0.99 - iTunes link], a colorful, eye-full of childlike wonder for the iPhone. And you make it as simple as it is elegant. Point your iPhone camera at, well, anything you like (the more varied and vivid the better in our tests) and KaleidoVid instantly transforms the live view into a dazzling, multi-reflected kaleidoscope of lines and blobs, hues and shades, and with a click of a button saves them to your camera roll or lets you share them

Mar 16 iPhone News 7:30 pm (0) Comments App Cubby today is pleased to announce the release of KaleidoVid 1.0, their new app for iPhone 3G, 3GS devices. KaleidoVid is a video kaleidoscope for iPhone that creates beautiful kaleidoscopic images from every day objects using the iPhone’s built in camera. Point the camera at everyday objects to create beautiful kaleidoscopic images. Tap the screen to freeze the image. Save or share it on Twitter, Facebook, or via email, then tap to do it again. Crazy as it may sound, iPhone development can be intense at times. So, we decided to take a break from a few of our more ambitious projects and do something delightful. We hope you find KaleidoVid as fun to use as it was to develop! KaleidoVid was created by David Barnard of App Cubby, brought to life by Layton Duncan of Polar Bear Farm, and made

KaleidoVid is the latest app from David Barnard of App Cubby. Working with Layton Duncan of Polar Bear Farm and Dave Keller of rocket, David decided to have some fun and make a "delightful" app. We got to see an early demo of KaleidoVid at Macworld Expo, and have been anticipating its release. If you played with a kaleidoscope as a kid, you'll be familiar with this app. Instead of mirrors and beads, KaleidoVid makes use of the iPhone's camera. To use it, simply turn it on and point the camera in any direction, then move the iPhone until you find a pattern that you like. From there, tap the screen to put a snapshot into your Camera Roll, or share your creations with Twitter, Facebook or email. Tap the screen again to resume playing. it's surprisingly fun and more of a toy than a game (I had to pry it

First Look at KaleidoVid – Video Kaleidoscope for the iPhone (148 Apps)

By Jeff Scott on March 18th, 2010 A fun little toy, just fire it up, point your iPhone at something colorful, and enjoy. KaleidoVid is a fun little app from App Cubby and Polar Bear Farm. Two developers that spend their time making serious apps decided to take a little break and create something fun. Seems like a great idea! The app is really pretty simple. It’s like those little cardboard tube kaleidoscopes we all had as kids. Fire up your iPhone (this app requires a camera), and point the camera at something colorful. The app takes a triangular part of the image and reflects it just like the ones you had as a kid. I guess the difference is those cost 75 cents, this one costs $500. The app lets you grab the screen at any time and save it as a unique image or share it on Twitter, Facebook,

The creators of KaleidoVid for iPhone set out to ‘do something delightful‘ as a little break from the grind of sometimes intense iPhone development work. I’ve been using the app for a little while and here’s my very first impression: they succeeded, 110%. The app is simple and fun to use, and produces lovely images with absolutely minimal effort. I’m pretty sure my daughter – and kids in general – should find the app just as delightful as I have. It’s also a damn fine way to create some great new wallpapers for yourself. Here’s a couple that I made in just a very few minutes of pointing KaleidoVid at a tile floor in our house and a bit of my daughter’s artwork: Here’s just a little slice from the app’s description page: Point the camera at everyday objects to create beautiful kaleidoscopic images.
C64 to stay free, KaleidoVid also free (TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog)

A little while back, the C64 app in the App Store (a C64 emulator with officially licensed code from some old Commodore 64 games) announced that it was going free for a day with the Free App a Day promotion. That was a few weeks ago, and you might have noticed that the app is still free in the store. We contacted Manomio's CTO Stuart Carnie to ask him if the app was still free, and he confirmed that yes, C64 is staying a free download. The reasoning is pretty interesting -- the way the app works is that you do get some games for free, and then you can buy more using in-app purchases. Carnie tells us that when the app went free, they saw a spike in games being bought -- twenty times what they were selling previously. Making the app free also vastly increased their user base, and
