Now There is Even an App That Lets You Pay for Coffee at Starbucks (ReadWriteWeb)

Starbucks just launched two iPhone apps. One app, myStarbucks, allows users to find stores, build drinks, and browse the coffee chain's menu and find nutritional information. While this is interesting, the second app is far more exciting. Starbucks Card Mobile gives users a virtual Starbucks Card and in 16 select stores in Silicon Valley and Seattle, users will be able to use this app to pay for their drinks. The app will display a barcode that the baristas at these stores will be able to scan. In addition, the mobile payment app will also allow users to check their card's balance, reload it with any major credit card, and view their transaction history. For now, this feature will only be available in these two test markets, which, according to Starbucks, were chosen because of the high usage rates of iPhones and Starbucks' loyalty cards. After this trial, Starbucks will decide whether

Starbucks, an international chain of coffee shops that usually have highly attractive young women serving coffee that can no longer be called coffee since so many additional mystical, magical, and foreign substances have been added to it, has released two iPhone applications. The first is called “myStarbucks” [iTunes link] and it can be used to find your local Starbucks, create drinks that have more names than a four time married Mexican priest, and also has the ability put a look of terror on your face by displaying nutritional information of your daily poison of choice. That’s the boring one. The second app is called “Starbucks Card Mobile” [iTunes link] and allows you to pay for your distilled capitalistic brew with your iPhone, along with viewing your transaction history and allowing you to top up your Starbucks card with your credit card. It isn’t a very complicated concept: you simply enter your

The Microsoft of the coffee biz, Starbucks, announced this morning that they've introduced two new iPhone / iPod touch apps to help customers make the most of their coffee addiction. myStarbucks and the Starbucks Card Mobile App [iTunes links] are free apps available in the iTunes App Store today. These apps were the subject of much speculation, particularly in the Mac Rumors forums, after Phil Schiller showed the myStarbucks app on the screen at the September 9th, 2009 "It's Only Rock and Roll" music event. While the company could have combined the two apps into one monster app, it's apparent that they're for two very different purposes. myStarbucks is primarily targeted at finding stores (as if there isn't one on every street corner in America...) and educating consumers about the drinks and food items available in those stores. The Starbucks Card Mobile App, on the other hand, is pointed towards the

Pay for Your Grande Latte at Starbucks With Your iPhone (TheAppleBlog)

Coffee lovers with overstuffed wallets rejoice: You can now pay for your Starbucks coffee with your Starbucks Card without actually using a physical card. There’s a catch — you’ll need an iPhone. But if you have one, you can now pay with Starbucks Card Mobile (iTunes link), a new app now available as a free download from the App Store. Before you head out the door with your iPhone in hand to try this out, check a map and make sure you’re currently located in Cupertino, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, or San Jose in California, or Seattle in Washington. If you’re anywhere else, you’re going to be disappointed, since those are the locations of the stores participating in the pilot test program of the new payment method. In the 16 stores that are accepting payment via iPhone in the cities I just mentioned, it works like this: You add a Starbucks card

Starbucks Goes Mobile: Pay For Coffee With Your iPhone (Mashable)

by Starbucks and the iPhone are sort of the perfect combination. You can browse the web for free on the AT&T hotspots, you can buy in-store songs from iTunes right from your phone, and now you can use two new official iPhone apps. Now available in the App Store, myStarbucks (iTunes Link) and Starbucks Card Mobile (iTunes Link) let users find their nearest Starbucks and manage their Starbucks Card. If you live near one of 16 stores in the Seattle or Bay Area, you can even pay for your purchases with the Starbucks Card Mobile app via barcode. Starbucks is a little late to the store-locator game, as a number of unofficial applications — both free and paid — already exist to show store locations or keep track of your Starbucks Card balance, but the official apps offer a lot of functionality, great design, and an unbeatable price — free.
Starbucks Launches Two Official iPhone Apps For Locating, Paying (iPhone Alley)

Two official apps devoted to helping you locate and pay for Starbucks coffee have just hit the App Store. The apps will be in competition with several unofficial apps made by third parties that perform similar functions. The first app, called myStarbucks, helps you locate the nearest Starbucks location, as well as search for individual information like hours and available amenities like drive-thru windows. It also includes a full menu and nutrition information for all of their drinks, food, and coffee beans, as well as a “drink builder” that lets you chose each ingredient and check it’s nutrition facts. It’s available in the App Store for free. The second app, called Starbucks Card Mobile, lets you check your Starbucks membership card status from your iPhone. According to a Starbucks spokeswoman, it will also display a scannable bar code that will be valid in 16 regions in Seattle and the Bay Area

Starbucks App Lets You Buy Lattes With iPhone (iPhone Savior)

Starbucks has finally plunged head first into the iPhone revolution by releasing two official iPhone apps for the espresso generation. While their app focuses mainly on mapping closest locations and includes an extended slide show pushing their products, it's the app that's being used to test a mobile payment system at select locations. Just like the napkins, sugar and stir sticks at Starbucks, both of these apps are free. The good news here is that paying for a latte with your iPhone just became a reality, making those plastic Starbucks cards instantly obsolete. Once you've loaded your card info into the app a unique bar code becomes available for scanning right from your iPhone. Simply hold your phone up to a dedicated scanning device near the store's register and it's go time. The bad news is that only 16 select locations in Seattle and the Silicon Valley are part of the

Apple iPhone Ad Voice Guy Ruins Christmas in New Commercial (TheAppleBlog)

He’s a credit to his profession, in fact, and has become iconically associated with one of the most successful products ever released. But he’s seriously ruining Christmas. A new Apple ad in the series features an app-centric take on the classic “12 Days of Christmas” holiday carol, as rendered with uncompromising unmusicality by the voice that smugly informs us about everything there’s an app for. The apps don’t correspond to the actual items described in the original tune, but instead highlight various holiday-time activities. Here’s how it breaks down (all links direct to iTunes): So all told, that’s $22 for a complete holiday. Is it worth it? Probably not. Actually definitely not. Trust someone who has a whole heap of Christmas-themed apps cluttering up his iTunes library from last year,

Starbucks app update perks up coffee customers (TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog)

MyStarbucks is no more. Starbucks rolled out version 2 of its official app today, combining the functions of myStarbucks and Starbucks Card Mobile into a single program. The new app has a redesigned interface with the company's new logo. Performance is much faster and having the Starbucks Card capabilities added to the app makes sense since it's ridiculously easy to pay for your coffee with your iPhone and there's really no need to have a separate app for this. Mobile payments also were expanded to Starbucks locations in Safeway. You can now send eGifts, gifting Starbucks credit to a lucky receipent. It'll go straight to the person's email or Facebook and a QR scanner was added. It retains the other features from the older app such as customizing and viewing the nutrition stats for your drinks, Starbucks Rewards, a geolocation feature, view available job openings and more Starbucks is a free

Greg was born just outside of San Jose, and now lives in the East Bay of California. → Learn More Oh, how great it is to live in the future. Sure, we may never explore the galaxy in our personal space cruisers (single tear.), but we can buy our friends coffee without even being at a coffee shop. From our phones! I’m getting ahead of myself. Up until this point, Starbucks has had two applications for iOS: myStarbucks, and Starbucks Card Mobile. The first let you find nearby stores, explore Starbuck’s menu, view store hours, etc — all the basics. The second, however, was pretty neat: you went to a Starbucks store, bought a gift card, punched that card’s details into your phone, and bam: the Starbucks Card Mobile appbecame the

If you’re anything like me, you receive a lot of important information in .pdf format. It’s become a pretty universal standard – everyone can read .pdf documents, regardless of platform, and the readers are almost always free. Newsletters, calendars, and even textbooks come in .pdf format, and with my iPhone, I always have them at my fingertips. But what happens when I need to send a .pdf to someone else? As most of you know, I’m a huge fan of Dropbox and apps that capitalize on it by tying into the APIs to create interesting new services. I also find Apple’s own Voice Memos app lacking in that there’s no easy way to get those recordings off my iPhone short of syncing (for now). DropVox is a little app that solves this problem simply. All it does it record audio and throw it into your

Starbucks launching augmented reality Cup Magic app for the holidays (TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog)

Starbucks is going to kick off the holiday season with a special app for iPhone and Android devices that will interact with art on holiday cups at the popular coffee shops around the world. You can see the app in action in the video below. As you can see, it's not really so functional as just a fun way to interact with the company's product. But the app does provide a little bit of interactivity, and apparently you can send holiday ecards directly from the software, as well as possibly win a prize for playing with all of the AR scenes. The app is set to be available on November 15th, a few days before Thanksgiving. This release will end a year of really interesting mobile phone-based initiatives from the company, including that mobile payment app that came out back in January. That app has been used in over 20 million
