Paper Toss is sleepy simple as a concept but it’s a narcotic in real life. All you have to do is toss, using a finger swipe, a balled-up piece of paper into wastepaper basket . We’ve all taken a jump shot at the basket at work; when they go in from 20-ish feet, we think Kobe Bryant-like warm and fuzzy  thoughts. It’s not hard and it’s fun. One of my favorite freebies for the iPhone lately is ‘Paper Toss’ from the folks at Backflip Studios. The object of the game is simple. Toss a ball of paper into the trash can as many times in-a-row as you can. You throw the paper by simply swiping your finger up in the direction you wish to throw it. Things get complicated just a touch by an office fan that provides wind changes to make things difficult. There are 3 levels of difficulty and an online scoreboard to help you gauge your skill. At the moment my high score on ‘Easy’ is 78. Here's a first look. At GDC this year we got a chance to take a look at a new game from Backflip Studios, Strike Knight. The game is a recreation of shuffleboard-type bowling you used to find in bars in decades past. The device in the app has a blue knight that never fails to make fun of missed shots. The game offers both single player and multiplayer (pass and play) bowling. Take a look at the video for an idea of what the game looks like and how it plays. Strike Knight will be submitted to the App Store next week, we should see it shortly after that.The game will be released free (ad-supported) much like Backflip Studios very popular Paper Toss. And that’s what Paper Toss’s latest update has done – it has added a new Pub level to an already superb little iPhone game.  The new level offers exactly the same gameplay as all the others, but it’s backdrop is a pub!  There’s even a dart board in the background. I’ve said this before about Paper Toss, but it continues to be true – it’s great to see a free app continue to provide updates and add levels a year after its initial release. Sony released a few other videos starring Marcus as part of the "Step Your Game Up" campaign, but this was the video that started it all: The basis of the video seems to be that Marcus is outraged that on the App Store you're charged for a "fake version of a real game" despite the fact that Paper Toss, the game shown in the video, always has been and likely always will be free. This is a survival action game in which you run up against 2 sides of a building, achieving power-ups while dodging and avoiding obstacles. Your goal is to not die and obtain the highest score possible. For those familiar with survival games than you should feel familiar with the concept, if not then I just explained it to you… Ninjump takes a different approach for obtaining power-ups or bonuses. Instead of just coming across them, you have to actually achieve them. What I mean is that there are 3 things that are bent on making you fall to your death, Birds, Squirrels, and other Ninjas. Managing Editor Justin McElroy told me he's gotten no end of amusement from Office Jerk, a free (ad-supported, though ads can be removed with a 99-cent purchase) download from the App Store. It's more than a little goofy -- the idea is that you have a boring office mate on the screen, and it's your job to playfully annoy him by throwing various objects his way, Paper Toss-style.
