Quickoffice for iPhone is now in the AppStore, allowing Apple handset and iPod Touch users to edit their documents and spreadsheets from their shiny devices, while on-the-go. Here’s a rundown of the application features: In addition to the new application, Quickoffice has two other apps for iPhone users: Quickoffice Files (formerly MobileFiles), which allows users to access their iDisk accounts, email files or transfer them via Wi-Fi; and Quicksheet (formerly MobileFiles Pro), which combines Quickoffice Files with a spreadsheet app. Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry. The "convergence" is what he's most excited about, and writing about it is the next logical thing to do. He thinks that using a smartphone is what everyone who cares about their time should do. In addition to his interests in mobile phones, Dusan also loves to experiment with the latest web and

Quickoffice: Finally, Word Document Editing Comes to Your iPhone (TheAppleBlog)

I’ve been waiting for the ability to edit Word documents on the iPhone since the day I got one. Why? Because I’m a dreamer, and my dream is someday not having to lug around a laptop of any size while I’m traveling, or just out and about in the city. My iPhone has become a big part of that dream, and the ability to edit any kind of document using it is another. The release of Quickoffice ($19.99, iTunes link) marks a big first for those editing capabilities, with full support for .doc files. Now, Word support doesn’t mean as much to me as it once did, since I work primarily online these days, but it’s still great to have, and helpful for my own personal fiction writing. Thanks to Quickoffice, I can now edit stories and start new ones on the go, without having to first convert them to .txt

The long awaited Quickoffice has finally hit the App Store (itunes link $19.99). The iPhone has been lacking a solid package of applications to easily view and edit Office documents and Quickoffice fills that spot nicely except for a few major flaws.

If you are interested in an app for the iPhone/Touch that can edit both Microsoft Word and Excel documents along with file sharing and content management capabilities, Quickoffice is now available via the App Store for $20. This is basically an abridged version of Office for the iPhone, which could useful for a variety of applications: editing documents, typing out new ones, and doing Excel sheets without dragging open a laptop. Will include copy/paste functionality too. Great for on the go presentations. Comments on various forums think the price is too high, but hey, people were clamoring for this functionality months ago, so compared to the full on version of Office, $20 is a bargain, it seems. But the bar seems to have been set rather low for App Store pricing it seems, and many have said they’d rather piece together various free apps to do this sort of work. To

Quick Office is a Mobile Office Suite for the iPhone. It has the functionality of three different applications in one and is by far the most developed and well thought out application of its kind for the iPhone. The app allows users to experience enterprise-grade Microsoft® Word and Excel® Office functionality with unparalleled ease-of-use. With QuickWord, users can edit Microsoft Word files with all the standard functions of a word processor. Fonts can be changed and manipulated, bullet points can be added, and even the almighty copy and paste is available. QuickOffice supports pinch zooming and dynamically reformats the text as you zoom. Cursor placement is handled by zooming the entire screen instead of giving a magnifying glass which I found to be extremely handy. There is also Quicksheet. Quicksheet allows users to edit spreadsheets right from their iPhone or iPod Touch. Calculations are made just like Excel and all the

05.06.09 App Score: 9/10 , from Quickoffice, is an overhaul of its versatile Quickoffice Mobile Pro, an app that combined Excel editing and file transfer functions. The big news here is Quickoffice Mobile Office Suite now features the ability to view, create and edit Word documents. MobileFiles Pro is no more and in its stead are: Quickoffice Files, which allows users to access their iDisk accounts, email files directly from the app or transfer via Wi-Fi. Quicksheet has identical features with the addition of an Excel spreadsheet editor. You can read the review of Quickoffice MobileFiles Pro, so I’ll give you a quick rundown on the Word side of things. Quickoffice, in emails and press releases, refers to the new app as Quickoffice for iPhone, but the app is named Quickoffice Mobile Office Suite, so I’ll use that until I find out which is correct.
Academic Appeal: Five Apps for the iPhone-toting Student (TheAppleBlog)

With the academic year about to begin, and having already tackled the important issues of iWork vs. Office, it’s time to turn our attentions to the iPhone. With over 65,000 apps on the App Store, even subtracting all the iFart and iTip applications there are five I feel are indispensable for any college student’s life. These apps range from the practical to the whimsy — all school and no play makes for a grumpy Crumpy. Evernote has quickly become the dumping ground for any information I come across on the Internet. I don’t even bother bookmarking anything anymore; I just clip it into Evernote. It’s very useful when I’m researching a paper — I’ll just tag an entry with the name of the paper, or create a notebook just for that class. Since Evernote keeps the URL for all clipped pieces, it’s very convenient when I go back to cite the

Why Small Business Owners Need a Mac (TheAppleBlog)

Small business owners have it hard, especially in the current world economic climate. They have lots to do, not enough resources, staff, and time to get it done. For many small business owners, computers are only one more thing to worry about. It doesn’t have to be that way. For the past few months, I’ve been in the process of moving from one side of the country to the other. Now that my family and I are settling into our new location, I thought I would share some stories of small business owner encounters I’ve had during my travels. From the end of April to the middle of July, I crossed the country twice by car, and three times flying. Each time, I was reminded of why a Mac is a great small business machine. During my travels, I met people from all over. Being a tech guy, I would immediately

Quickoffice Mobile Office Suite is a solid document creation and editing app for those of you who travel a lot for business purposes or need a quick fix for your school assignments. It recently received an update that adds the ability to create, open, and edit Microsoft Word and Excel 2007 files, which should make it your go-to business app. Quickoffice Mobile Office Suite consists of three different apps that can be purchased separately, but together they make the ultimate app. It allows you to edit Word and Excel documents, transfer desktop files via Wi-Fi, remotely access MobileMe, email files, and even mount your device as a drive. Quickoffice Mobile Office Suite is priced relatively high for an iPhone app at $14.99, which is technically its sale price, but it offers so many features that it’s tough to even compare. Its direct competitor, Documents To Go, is priced at $9.99 and

Box.net Brings Cloud Storage to iPhone Apps (Mashable)

by iPhone applications are becoming increasingly common — and convenient — ways for users to access their documents, photos and web services. The only real problem is that because the iPhone lacks a distinctly user-controllable file management system, accessing your existing documents from within those applications is often difficult, if not impossible. Storage and collaboration service Box.net has just launched its OpenBox Mobile API, which offers developers the ability to integrate the Box.net platform into their apps. What this means is that users will have the ability to access their content stored on Box.net within their favorite iPhone applications. So if you use the Quickoffice [iTunes link] application, you can access your documents stored on Box.net, make edits and then e-mail the new copy. The new API is free for developers — just sign up for a Box.net and then join the developers program. The iPhone is the first platform being

Were you watching the two-hour season premiere of House last night on Fox? Maybe you were watching one of the other prime-time shows, but if you had your eyes on the screen during some of the commercial breaks, you probably saw at least one of the three new iPhone ads that hit the airwaves last night. Each of the new ads highlights a total of six apps, up from the three that were formerly the focus of the older ads. The first ad I saw last night, "Dine," looks at Zagat to Go, QuickOffice, TripCase, New York Subway 09, Epicurious Recipes & Shopping List, and Gap Style Mixer. [Note: all app links will open the iTunes App Store] I'm happy to see that Apple is maintaining focus on the number and variety of apps in the App Store, instead of resorting to the narcissistic, touchy-feely, celebrity-filled tripe that T-Mobile has been

Here Are More Apps for That: Three New iPhone Commercials From Apple (TheAppleBlog)

It’s fall premiere season, and that means new shows. But it also means sparkly new ads to fill all those commercial breaks. New Apple ads for the iPhone provided pleasant relief for me yesterday from the tedium of the two-hour Heroes premiere. On a side note, the Castle premiere was pretty good. But back to those commercials. All three highlight popular and unique iPhone apps, some of which have already been featured in previous commercials. Let’s take a look at the apps featured in each commercial. The first ad is called Dine and features a smattering of apps covering a range of different topics, including travel, dining, working and shopping. Here’s a breakdown of the apps featured. TripCase (Free) — Flight tracking, info and travel itinerary management app. Quite a few not so great reviews on this one, but it is free. New York Subway 09 ($4.99) — Navigate the labyrinth

Documents To Go Finally Allows You To Create And Edit Excel Spreadsheets (Apple iPhone Apps)

Documents To Go was voted as our AppAwards “Best Document Creation App” back in July, and at that time it certainly was one of if not the best of its kind for the iPhone and iPod touch. However, over the last couple of months, Quickoffice had gained some momentum by offering the ability to create, open, and edit Microsoft Excel spreadsheet files. Dataviz finally decided enough was enough and pushed an update to Documents To Go out that adds these same abilities to their document creation app in an attempt to reclaim its throne. Documents To Go already featured the ability to create, edit, and view Microsoft Word files, and view Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, and Apple iWork files. It even allowed you to keep your files in sync with a free companion application that works on both Macs and PCs via Wi-Fi. The biggest piece of the puzzle left out,

Why are these big-name Android and webOS developers getting stomped on? This week’s IntoMobile podcast has Will, Stefan and I talk a lot about Cyanogen and JWZ, what role platform managers have in app distribution, and if they should be sticking their nose into “unofficial” software scenes. We also touch on the possibility of the Palm Pre coming to America’s top carrier, Verizon, as well as a rumoured Apple acquisition and what it means for Google’s Latitude service on the iPhone. American listeners, we’re giving away a Commuter Series OtterBox case for one of the following phones. For your two chances to win, leave a comment in this post and tweet with the hashtag #intomobile with which device you’re packing. The three of us run down some mobile productivity options, but we didn’t get any questions, unfortunately.
Need A Cheap Mobile Office Suite? Quickoffice And Documents To Go Are On Sale (Apple iPhone Apps)

Black Friday may be officially over, but many of those great deals have spilled over into the weekend, including sales on two of the most popular iPhone and iPod touch mobile Office suites. Quickoffice Mobile Office Suite was one of the first mobile document creation and editing apps to hit the App Store. The app allows you to create, open, and edit Word and Excel files, transfer desktop files via Wi-Fi, remotely access MobileMe, email files, and even mount your device as a drive. Quickoffice Mobile Suite was priced at $9.99, but it is now available for its lowest price ever of $6.99 until Monday, November 30th. Documents To Go came along a little later than Quickoffice, but that extra time away apparently didn’t hurt it any as it was voted as our AppAwards “Best Document Creation App” back in July. The app features the ability to create, open and edit Word

I put myself squarely in the “Working Mac User” category. My MacBook sees daily use in an Enterprise. I freelance write about the Mac and use mine in school. Outside of web surfing and the occasional game, very little of my time at the keyboard is leisure time. So, when I viewed the live blogs of the iPad event, my thoughts drifted to “How can us this for work?” Rather than deal with hypotheticals, I’ll go into some ways I could use an iPad. I used to cover E3, the gaming industry’s excuse for middle-aged men to ogle booth babes. I’d have to drag my laptop, a camera, notebooks, and whatever crap got handed to me by PR folks. For each appointment my editor sent me to, I was expected to write an article about what I saw. In that situation, when contemplating how much something weighs against its power, weight

By Rene Ritchie, Wednesday, Feb 10, 2010 | QuickOffice and Box.net both announced updates recently that work together to provide more seamless access to documents on your iPhone, from the cloud. QuickOffice 3.0 [$9.99 - iTunes link] lets you access documents stored on Box.net, as well as other cloud-based repositories like MobileMe, Google Docs, and Dropbox. It’s also a free update for existing users. Box.net has [Free - iTunes link] also released a new version that includes collaborative comments, the QuickOffice integration mentioned above, and new API’s for developers to connect up search, commenting, and activity tracking in other apps as well.
Quickoffice Adds DropBox, Google Docs support (TheAppleBlog)

I’ve written about my love affair with Quickoffice before, but there’s always been one issues I’ve had with it: the only cloud storage service it supported was MobileMe’s iDisk. I’ve come close to plunking down the money for MobileMe a few times, but because Dropbox works for me, I’ve been hesitant. Quickoffice just announced its new iPhone app Quickoffice Connect which now lets you access and edit files on Box.net, Dropbox, Google Docs and Apple MobileMe. It’s available for an introductory price of $9.99, but it showed as a free upgrade for my existing Quickoffice application. In my very brief testing, it has worked as advertised. I was able to connect to my Dropbox account, browse all the files and open a Word doc and edit it. The usual disclaimers apply: the formatting is still rough (the document I tested with has extensive formatting and fonts not available on the iPhone,

Quickoffice Updated With Google Docs Support (iPhoneFreak)

Quickoffice, the popular office application suite, has been updated this week to include some much needed cloud-based functionality. New users will want to seek out Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite inside the App Store, where version 3.0 comes with Dropbox, Box.net, MobileMe and Google Docs integration. Documents stored online can now be accessed and edited, then shared within the service or emailed to someone else, plus you can create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel files as before too. All this needs to be done over Wi-Fi and the app happily supports multiple online accounts. As was the case with the initial run of Quickoffice products in the App Store, Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite is being offered for $9.99 instead of the normal $19.99 for a limited time. Just to confuse the issue, the original Quickoffice – i.e. without the cloud-based services – still exists and is now known as Quickoffice Mobile

If you've ever had a need to create or edit Microsoft Office documents on your iPhone or any other mobile device, you're probably familiar with Quickoffice. It's a solid app that provides a way to transfer documents to your iPhone, open them, make changes, and then save them back to the device. At Macworld 2010, Quickoffice announced some changes to their iPhone product line. The app now comes in two flavors -- Quickoffice Connect [Free, iTunes Link], which is a document viewer, and the full Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite [US$9.99 sale price]. Both apps now have a feature that should make almost everyone happy -- integrated access to multiple cloud services including MobileMe, Dropbox, Box.net, and Google Docs. TUAW editor Steve Sande visited the Quickoffice booth at Macworld Expo 2010 yesterday and was treated to a full demo of the the Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite. We've got video, so see how

How Much Will You Pay for iPad Apps? (The iPhone Blog)

By Rene Ritchie, Friday, Mar 26, 2010 | How much will you pay for iPad apps? Steve Jobs said the iPad was a new category between the iPhone and the laptop, so will iPad software be a new category between the two as well? PC software for Windows or Mac can range from free to well over a thousand dollars for a suite — looking at you Adobe CS5 — or more. iPhone apps on the other hand have raced to the bottom, with free being common and cheap being the biggest alternative. Most apps hover around $0.99. Only a few apps dare go over $5, let along $10 or more. Apple might have given us some indication with the pricing they announced for their iWork productivity apps for iPad. On the Mac, iWork is bundled at $79 for a single license and $99 for a 5 license family pack [Apple

Dropbox is getting more serious about its efforts to bring its cloud storage solution to mobile devices. On Tuesday the company is announcing a mobile API for developers to build ties to Dropbox's servers into their own apps, as well as formally launching first-party applications for the iPad and Android and BlackBerry devices. The new mobile API is something Dropbox is calling "Dropbox Anywhere." The company has worked with a number of developers to integrate their apps into the new data pipeline. These include Fuze's FuzeMeeting app, Dictamus, Air Sharing, GoodReader, QuickOffice and Sprite Mobile's backup tool. All of these apps are able to tap into a user's Dropbox storage to fetch data, and save it back without needing to use any of that device's local data. Now any developer will be able to do the same with their own mobile software. Competitor Box.net rolled out something very similar back in

Posted 02/09/2011 at 6:42am | by J Keirn-Swanson Back when it was just the iPhone, there wasn't much demand for mobile word processing, but when the iPad came along, people expected full computer functionality. Apple heeded the call with mobile versions of iWork, but Microsoft Office still remains king of document software. The popular .doc is still the number one format with a bullet, and a variety of office-based software has arisen to handle it. In our special cage-match office productivity App Showdown, we'll go three rounds to find out who is the undisputed master of the mobile domain, Apple or its competitors. Documents to Go Premium ($16.99, universal)One of the bigger players in the market, Documents to Go by DataViz, Inc., brings word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations under one umbrella. Plus, the app developers rock it out as a universal, so even iPhone users can hook themselves up.

Office App Showdown: Round Three: Presentations (Mac|Life)

Posted 02/23/2011 at 6:21am | by J Keirn-Swanson We've seen what Apple could dish up when it came to word processing, and we've seen the competitors bring occasionally impressive functionality to this realm. We've even seen word processing on the iPhone, which, while not glamorous or particularly easy, is still nice. Spreadsheets were likewise a solid contender for data crunching even if there were some major shortcomings in the apps which sought to dethrone Numbers from its rightful place. The third and final installment is at last at hand. Presentations, the scourge of corporate meetings. It's almost as if DocsToGo realized the near impossibility of its task -- how to create a universal app that also manages flexibility and creativity -- threw up their hands and gave up. Sure, you can open PowerPoint files, save them, share them, etc., but creation? Creation is an ugly process that gives no pleasure

Numbers on the iPhone: A quick look (TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog)

Apple has yet to come out with a new version of iWork for the Mac, but it's been hard at work on the iOS edition of the productivity suite. The recent release of iWork on the iPhone and iPod touch included all three members of the iWork family in a diminutive format -- Keynote for presentations, Pages for word processing and page layout and Numbers for creating and updating spreadsheets and charts. I took a quick look at Numbers (US$9.99, universal app) on the iPhone just to see how well (or poorly) the app translated to the smaller screen format, and the results of my inspection are included in this short overview of the app. A gallery of screenshots is just below. I've been using spreadsheets on mobile devices since the Apple Newton MessagePad first came out in 1993, and for the most part, they've all suffered from the same issue.
