MasterCard Releases Person-To-Person Payment App MoneySend for BlackBerry

You can't pay with your phone at the register yet, but you can use it to pay the babysitter. MoneySend, an application from MasterCard for sending and requesting money in informal person-to-person transactions, is now out in the BlackBerry App World. MasterCard's app lags significantly behind PayPal's mobile payment app, available for Android, iPhone and BlackBerry, except perhaps that MasterCard has more cache and credibility with older generations. But MoneySend's shortcomings aside, MasterCard is clearly excited about mobile-enhanced shopping. MasterCard recently launched a new mobile application called "MasterCard Marketplace Overwhelming Offers," which delivers daily deals to iPhone users. Despite its mouthful of a name, savvy shoppers planning on purchasing a big-ticket item in the near future may want to keep an eye on this one. Like the popular Internet retailer Woot (just bought by Amazon), the app provides deeply discounted items, available in limited quantities for a limited time. At 12 p.m. Eastern (GMT - 4:00) every day, a new deal is posted to the mobile app, offering "door-buster" type savings of 50% or more on brand-name products from a network of over 28,000 merchants. For those needing some cold, hard money, MasterCard has released an ATM Hunter application for BlackBerry, allowing you to quickly home in on cash machines close to your GPS location, or within the area of a designated address. ATMs can be filtered based on what services you’re looking for: drive-through, 24-hour access, wheelchair access, and even find which ones don’t have an added surcharge. As handy as this app is, I think Zoompass is a much more interesting mobile project that MasterCard is involved with, but depending on where you spend your time, it might be hard finding a cash machine – I would cache this one on your microSD card for those odd situations. Great future promise, not quite ready.

I need this. That said, just downloaded it and gave it a test. I know there is a Well's Fargo ATM about 150 yards from me. App showed the closest ATM as 0.77 miles away. Interestingly, showed another Well's Fargo ATM about 0.98 miles away. That said, usually when I need something like this I'm walking around and just looking for what truly is closest. Given this is coming from MasterCard, I have no doubt they will improve on it over time and am looking forward to the updates.

this seems to give you ATMs near where you are, but most are inside office buildings, are private or have no cusumer use. If you had filters for say your bank's ATMs then it would work. I traveled to NYC and tried it and never found what I needed from my bank which is all over the City. At home in Philly, I tried from my house and got the closest 20, all being not availible as inside small commercial places and it missed one from my bank in a popular convenience chain closer to my house.. I can understand why mastercard wants to list them all, but it got the app off my iPhone in 72 hours.

Yes, it does find ATM's, HOWEVER, when I select 'By current location' it seems to use the last location In which I had location service turned on (e.g. It is using cached info). In order to be accurate, I have to open up google maps or something similar, pinpoint the current location, THEN chose to find an ATM by the current location. It seems to me that simply turning on 'location services' should be enough and it would update itself but I suppose not. Maybe it's an iPhone thing, not ATM Hunter...

OK search results but needs a better location search engine. It doesn't find all the nearby ATMs, it doesn't recognize my home address (at a main road here in Miami Beach!), and the search-by-distance results are mostly off. Alsothe additional information such as drive-through, wheelchair accessibility, etc., is frequently incorrect - I've emailed the people behind this app so they can correct this type of information but it never gets updated. Airport ATM results should include the actual location within the airport, i.e., which terminal, or near which gate. Right now all you get a is map of were the airport is located - not very specific nor helpful. Come on MasterCard, you could do so much better!!

This is a great app for determining specifics about the ATM's in your region. It works quickly and is filterable for helpful things like 24-hour and no surcharge locations. Since anyone who banks already knows where their branches are (plus if traveling I can use Mobile Maps or Google Maps) the previously suggested bank filters are superfluous. What we really need to know is what this app provides, the hidden mom 'n pop, gas station, check cashing and difficult to find at 3 am locations that would normally be hit or miss. Finally, considering the boring information it provides, it is a visually appealing, snappy, color coordinated and entertaining app. No, I don't know who wrote it, but I was compelled to comment due to deficiencies in some of the previous reviews. The nifty, useful and quite clever features provided for free in this application warrant props.
