Being in a foreign country with a foreign language can be difficult, especially when you come across something you can’t understand. Thankfully, now there’s an app for that, too. Codium Labs has just announced the release of Babbleshot [App Store, $1.99], an app that can translate text in photos taken on your iPhone’s camera from different languages. Supported languages: Afrikaans, Albanian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Maltese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tagalog, and Turkish… …and those are only the ones that it can translate straight from the photo. If you’re willing to type it out (i.e. for iPod touch owners), if can also translate Arabic, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Persian, Russian, Serbian, Thai, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese (though typing characters for some of the languages would undoubtedly be difficult).
