'Madden 12' Review – Well, It's One More
Calendar16 Tue, 30 Aug 2011 20:30:19 UTC +00:00
I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do with EA's Madden 12 [$6.99 / HD]. I mean, a game like Madden we sort of need to review, but I've spent a considerable amount of time with the game and honestly couldn't even say what's different between Madden 11 and Madden 12 aside from adding one more to the numerical suffix, redesigning some menus, and updating the roster. So, I've just updated our review: The series hardly needs an introduction, as football player turned coach turned commentator John Madden has had his name on football games for the better part of 20 years now. On home consoles, it has become tradition for EA to release a new game each year with updated rosters, , and other various tweaks. As of tonight, the third yearly installment of the series has arrived for the iPhone. Last year Two years ago we Read More

Happy Thanksgiving – Here Are a TON of Games on Sale
Calendar16 Thu, 25 Nov 2010 11:04:08 UTC +00:00
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, and has been all my life. What's there not to love about an entire day revolving around eating massive amounts of turkey, stuffing, and all the other fixings? Sure, I could do without needing to feign interest in football, but thankfully tryptophan overload usually allows me to sleep through all of that. If you're looking for something to do this year while you do your best to either pretend to be interested in football or anxiously wait for the food to be done, there are a ton of sales on the App Store to consider. The basis of this post comes from SirAwesome's awesome thread in our new price drops, freebies, and deals forum. He put together an extremely exhaustive listing of everything that's on sale, and the thread is good to stop by just to make sure you're not missing anything that might Read More

The Baseball Superstars series has come quite a long way on the iPhone. The original Baseball Superstars [$2.99 / Lite] was released in late 2008-- It was a fairly obvious port from Gamevil's cell phone version of the game, complete with stretched graphics, mediocre virtual controls, and not much else. When we caught up with Gamevil at the following GDC, they previewed an update that fixed pretty much everything that initially made us take a pass on reviewing the game when it was first released. With improved graphics, and a more sensible difficulty level, Baseball Superstars quickly became one of my favorite iPhone games. It wasn't much of a surprise to me when Baseball Superstars 2010 [$2.99 / Lite / HD] was released that we liked it just as much, if not more. Our review reflected the various refinements that Gamevil made to the series which only made the experience even Read More
Gamevil has had a streak of hits with their Baseball Superstars series of games. We really liked Baseball Superstars 2010 [$2.99 / Free / HD] in our review, and the 2009 edition was great as well. The games combine arcade style baseball with RPG elements, creating an experience that is not only fun for fans of sports, but impossible to put down for those of us who like filling experience bars. Baseball Superstars 2011 is on the verge of being released, and Gamevil released the following two videos in preparation: First, the ridiculous trailer: ...And a gameplay video: I seriously cannot wait for this game. The Madden series hardly needs an introduction, as football player turned coach turned commentator John Madden has had his name on football games for the better part of 20 years now. On home consoles, it has become tradition for EA to release a new Madden game each year with updated rosters, a few new features, and other various tweaks. As of tonight, the second yearly installment of the Madden series has arrived for the iPhone. Last year we took a close look at Madden NFL 10 and thought it was a really great football game for the iPhone. Madden '10 came loaded with all the licensed players, stadiums, logos, and everything else you'd expect of a Madden game along with game modes ranging from single exhibition games to full seasons. The two hip new features of Madden NFL 10 for the iPhone were hot routes allowing players to draw on the Read More
Earlier this month we posted about Gamevil's next sports RPG, Soccer Superstars. Much like Baseball Superstars 2010 [$4.99 / Free], Soccer Superstars comes packed with the same fantastic anime-styled sprites, multiple game modes, and best of all, the ability to train up your own super players which adds an insane amount of depth to the game. The controls in Soccer Superstars work quite well, what Gamevil did with the controls that I particularly enjoyed was the way you didn't always have to have your finger on the virtual joystick. Instead, you only need to move the joystick in the direction you want your player to move, and they just keep on running. Holding a direction causes your currently selected player to dash momentarily. A the series of on-screen buttons work exactly how you would expect them to if you've ever played any soccer video game. In the games I've played, the Read More
A couple days ago we first posted about NoCanWin.com's Cubed Rally Racer [$1.99] and the few screenshots along with the trailer saw a huge response both in comments and on our forums. Two days later, and the game is here. The original teaser line the developer emailed us of "RC Pro-Am meets Canabalt [$2.99]" couldn't be a more apt comparison, as Cubed Rally Racer does a great job of combining both the retro feel of isometric NES-era racing games with complete randomization to never play the same track twice. The goal of Cubed Rally Racer is simple, make it to the end of the track without running out of fuel. You control your car with a set of buttons to turn right or left along with a gas pedal button to accelerate. The controls do take a few races to get used to, as they work exactly like the retro racing Read More
A few news items from the business side of iPhone games this week, courtesy of the folks over at Mobile Entertainment. Ngmoco has purchased developer Stumptown Game Machine, creators of their popular Touch Pets Dogs release. Unfortunately, there's no information on how much the deal was worth, but it's a pretty obvious pickup for Ngmoco, which is working on building a stable of freemium titles and developers to produce them. My money's still on an Ngmoco/Booyah deal at some point, too -- Ngmoco has the money to pick up a few other smaller developers thanks to funding, and Booyah has the app and the dedicated users that Ngmoco wants. The two companies have already collaborated with a MyTown promotion on Ngmoco's We Rule, but I can see it going farther eventually. Elsewhere, EA Mobile reported a big growth in profits over the last quarter, up 12% year-over-year. The company attributes revenues Read More

Gamevil, the developers of Zenonia and Baseball Superstars 2010, have revealed some new information for Zenonia 2: The Lost Memories, and has also released a new trailer for their upcoming artistic action RPG Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers. The original Zenonia, launched in May of this year, was quite a hit among iPhone and iPod touch gamers because it brought a “real” RPG experience to the platform.  Now the developers intend to expand on that experience in Zenonia 2: The Lost Memories. The game will feature four distinct characters to choose from, a Paladin, Shooter, Magician, and Warrior, instead of the single character you were stuck with in the original.  The Magician and Warrior classes will be capable of attacking from a distance thanks to their range skills.  Zenonia 2 will also feature three levels of difficulty, which should help the game appeal to newcomers and veterans.  Playing on the Hard and Read More
'Zenonia 2' Details Revealed
Calendar16 Thu, 14 Jan 2010 00:54:01 UTC +00:00
Gamevil's action RPG Zenonia [$2.99 / Free] was among the first "full" RPG experiences on the iPhone, and is still a game that is thoroughly recommended amongst our community whenever a "What game should I get?" thread pops up on the forums. Its sequel is something which will no doubt be as highly anticipated as its initial release, and of this evening Gamevil gave us a few details on what to expect. Zenonia 2 will have four distinctly different character classes: The paladin, shooter, magician, and warrior. Ranged attacks are also being implemented, allowing players to use various skills to attack from a distance. New difficulty modes are also being added, aside from the standard "normal" difficulty, "hard" and "hell" modes will allow hardcore players to access additional loot and a hidden boss stage only available in the higher difficulty modes. There are also new terrain effects thrown in to the Read More

Two new lite versions of games we can't say enough good things about appeared on the App Store recently. If you haven't already bought either of these games, I really recommend giving the free versions a spin With a nearly flawless 4.5 star rating here on Touch Arcade, Baseball Superstars 2010 took everything that was good about Baseball Superstars 2009 and made it better. If you like baseball games or roleplaying games, Baseball Superstars 2010 can potentially consume your gaming life as you find yourself batting through just one more season before going to bed to make your super batter even more powerful. And of course, like most Gamevil games, there's even a completely off the wall commercial for the game that is totally worth a watch just to see an angel and some type of demon having some kind of epic baseball battle. After a year and a half, TouchArcade is going to start doing something we've never done before: provide numeric ratings for our game reviews (though with a catch). The absence of a rating system at TouchArcade has been a point of contention amongst some of our readers, but was not a decision that we had made lightly. A great number of issues arise with any rating system, the least of which is consistency over time. Rating scores can also blind readers to otherwise good games if they didn't get a near perfect score. There are many advantages, however, including the ability for readers to find the "best" games at a glance. In an effort to bring the best of both worlds, we have decided to start rating games in bulk on a monthly basis and publishing a monthly "Best iPhone Games" column that recaps the best games from the preceding month. The good old BS (you know what I mean) is back and better than ever. They’ve impressed Daniel before with Gamevil’s first take on the baseball market. Now with a slew of improvements gameplay, graphics and overall presentation-wise. We can’t help but say, Baseball Superstars the original WHAT?! Presentation I personally think menu belongs here, and UI as well. This is one thing I personally think was greatly improved here. Back in 09 the menu (and well, pretty much everything was controlled) the same way you played the game. With button/D-pad. I didn’t like that much. It wasn’t a big problem, but was annoying. It wasn’t iPhone-y as I’m known to call it. To my surprise, this year, controls are completely different. Tap tap revolution baby!!! Tap to select what you want in the menu, as well as pitching, substitutions, and so on. Yeh!! Controls The controls in BS are pretty Read More
Baseball Superstars 2010
Calendar16 Thu, 01 Oct 2009 08:20:51 UTC +00:00
Baseball Superstars is an app from Gamevil focusing on America's great pastime: Baseball. The game is a cartoon version of the sport and I must say is a very well made game. The app's main focus is building a character of your own and following them throughout their baseball career. You can choose from either a pitcher or a batter and help them gain the recognition as being a pro player. The game has plenty of modes to play through and I must say is the hardest baseball game that I have ever played. The controls make perfect sense for an iPhone but there is so much to control and do that I found myself personally just trying to make sure I hit the ball. Following my batter through his career, I was able to train my abilities and purchase new equipment that made me faster, more accurate, and hit with Read More

'Baseball Superstars 2010' – An Excellent Sequel
Calendar16 Thu, 24 Sep 2009 14:39:39 UTC +00:00
Korean game developer Gamevil released their latest entry in the Baseball Superstars series last night with Baseball Superstars 2010 [App Store]. According to Gamevil, the original Baseball Superstars is the best selling baseball game on the App Store, and given my experience with Baseball Superstars 2010 so far, it's safe to say they've got another hit on their hands. Baseball Superstars 2010 is a full featured baseball game with multiple game modes ranging from simple exhibition games to full seasons or homerun derbies. What sets the game apart from the pack are the RPG elements that allow you to create your own pitcher or batter and build their statistics in "My League" mode. Various exercises and social events are available to train your players along with items to purchase such as bats and shoes with your annual salary. Once you have built up your players (up to 4 batters and 2 Read More

Great great upgrade over BS2009
Avi Warner 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This is a must buy for baseball fans. What a tremendous upgrade over the 2009 version. The gameplay, graphics, rpg-like advancement mechanics have been improved. The game itself plays better IMHO. it's not MLB the Show on iphone but it's as close as we'll get!

Great game, but....
iStar19 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This a really good game, but it's hard as heck! This is truely a simulated baseball game because it's not easy to hit homeruns like in Baseball Superstars 2009. As far as graphics, they're awesome! Much better than its predecessor. Nevertheless, I can honestly say that I regret purchasing this game. I had more fun playing Baseball superstars 2009 (Lite).... That's right, LITE! The 5 star rating is not a mistake. I give 5 stars because I'm sure they're people that'll be superb at this game and have so much fun playing it, but I'm just not one of them.
Awesome

It's the best on the iPhone. The 2009 version was excellent and this version improves on it. Please fix the outfeild graphic bug and the slow down on homerun hit animation
Almost there...
Odog4ever. 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Compared to baseball superstars 09: This game has better graphics, interface, story line, and modes. Unfortunately, there are some frame rate hiccups and control issues. The batting is broken in my opinion. I'm getting killed on the easy setting. Why? Because the animation for the batter is stuck on slow. There is a half second delay between when I hit the button and when his bat crosses the plate. It doesn't feel natural like it did in BS 09. Also, why is every fielder awesome even on easy? When I do accidently hit the ball it's always an out.
Soso
Jjaaiiddeenn nn 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
It's fun I still think 2009 is better this one is harder don't spend $5.99 when u can get 2009 4 less
Excells over any other baseball game!
TwizTeD xAcEx 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This game is head and shoulders above Baseball Superstars 2009, which was the best baseball and one of the best games overall on the app store. One thing that makes Baseball Superstars '10 better than '09 include a more in depth career mode. Baseball games can get repetitive in team mode after one or two seasons, but i'm already on my fifth season. Career mode wants you to keep playing and you don't become the best after one season, so that takes a lot of time. The next best baseball game, Power Pros Touch, doesn't have this. '10 also has new stadiums, "strengths and weaknesses", new special players, and more missions. I would strongly reccomend this game to any sports, R.P.G., or action games fan, but if you're not that much of a fan of baseball, maybe wait for a sale, gamevil is normally good about their sales.
Meh...
JeffDawg 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Though the graphics are better, there are times in the game where you can see that you hit the ball, yet it counts as a strike, or it becomes a foul. Gamevil's previous games were better.
Awesome!

i was very excited to see this release.. i loved the playability of the original but wished for more depth in all other areas. Well after 5 hrs of playing this new version, i have to say... it's incredible. Buy this.
Great package. Broken gameplay
Chickdigger802 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Have owned and played about every baseball app, I am greatly dissapointed by this game. The overall interface and package has greatly improved over the original. But that leads to a pretty dodgy framerate. The batting has become rather hard to time. The batter has a really bad swing animation which makes hitting pretty bad. So basically fix framerate and the batting and this game is easily 5 stars. Until then, a baseball game that can't get the baseball part right shouldn't be scored over 1 star. Played on iPhone 3g
I like the 09 version better.
Zak Saber 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
The new way to pitch is not fun. I like the old way which there's an option for classic pitching but it's not the same as the 09 one. Timing on hitting the ball is off and laggy. Animation of characters are ugly and I think better ones should be made.
Like ice cream...
AscendingLeo 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Dropped in mud then decorated to look pretty. 09 had a much better interface, framerate and playability. I could easily beat normal on my league but in this one, I have a hard time getting anything but singles and outs on EASY. Also, the batting Is very weak and the defense of any team is so unbreakable it's stupid. Another problem is that the missions are now impossible with the slow framerate and the unbelievable difficulty. And on my league batting, tge opposing team can score 6 points in an inning making you lose the game and drop your morale. Some of the events are stupid too, if you chose to train more, you get an injury, if you dont you lose popularity. If this is ever fixed I will change my rating, but otherwise I really regret getting this game and spending my $6 on a pile of crap. If you are even thinking about buying this game, dont. Get 09, gamevil's classics were the best, Now they are just getting worse. I had such high hopes for this game too...
A must have for all baseball fans
Jcextreme 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I'm not sure why all the complaints about lag, pitching, or outfield issues. The game play is exactly the same as the previous version, but with allot better graphics and harder components. I played through season mode in last years game and only lost 3 games, stopped playing because it was too easy. If you liked the game last year you'll really enjoy it this year. So stop the hating and just get the game, you won't be disappointed.
Fun

ok so it is like 10 times harder than 09 but it has great graphics derigged teams realistic events and better season mode. also thing though for both bs 09 and bs 10 make an easier way to get g points it's a pain to do each mission like 100 times to get like 1000 g points or go in order untill you get to one you can't do. also please please please fix the online mission dl button it would help soooo much. also stfu about the hardness of the game if u go to your homescreen while it is showing you final score and re open it you can redo the match
