This is a great game, and is really fun to play. The only gripe i had is that the professions are really hard to use. Lots of time when you draw a symbol, it does something other than what you wanted it to do, or it might not do anything at all. This can be really frustrating, and makes the game alot harder. If you could fix this problem, then this would easily be a 5 star game. PS. Some more armies would be nice to. :)

This game is great, it looks so friendly and inviting. Yes the basic defense theme is present in the game, but the new concept of puppets keeps this adventure quest alive and thriving. I browsed their website and blog site and it seems as though the developers will be adding lots of more content in the future. Get it now, for once this game gets the recognition it deserves the developers will be crazy not raise the price. 5* all the way.

No not really… but any way I love this app so much! However I can't beat the "?" level. Survive 7 mins. This app is very different from any other app out there! I hope this app gets in the top 25! Small wonders… YOU RULE!!!

I love this game, but it is sorely lacking multi-player. Please make it possible to play another iPod/iPhone locally via bluetooth or wi-fi. Once beaten the only real thrill/reason to replay would be to fight a human opponent. Thanks!

Production values are through the roof, and this feels like a 'complete' portable game experience. Not to mention - it just oozes charm and character!!! Well done!!!

This game immediately got my attention because of the bizarre plot outlined in the iTunes listing. Puppets doing Broadway plays/operas while fighting each other using weapons and spells? Who thought of this and what were they smoking? I mean that in the best possible way. Creativity is a good thing and the app store could use more of it. As far as the actual game play, this game is similar to other well known titles like Medieval (without the crossbow) or Age of War. You send out troops from your base to fight the enemies troops. The end goal is to destroy the enemy's base. There are some variations on the theme here, such as having some maps be Battle (destroy the enemy base) and others Survival (keep your base alive for a certain amount of time), spells, and waypoints (you can build smaller bases out in the playing field, and so can the enemy.) The graphics for this game are GREAT! Backgrounds and characters are cute, detailed, and original. The way the puppets "die" probably won't satisfy the blood hunger that many gamers have (yes, me too), but it is a nice departure from other similar games. The game is played via a campaign mode that covers the entire United States and there are various spells to collect along the way. Saving your game/campaign is easy, and the play modes (Easy | Normal | Hard) all seem to be pretty well balanced. My suggestions to improve the game are as follows: More operas, more maps, more characters, allow upgrades of characters & more upgrades of bases. Why not have longer playing boards? If you are going to allow bases to be built along the board, then there is no reason that you can't have really long boards - especially if you allowed more upgrades to the waypoint bases. How about other countries after the US campaign? Maybe something on the map to show where our trailing troops are - sometimes you're waiting for reinforcements to arrive and you're not sure where they are. Also, when you don't have enough money, the icon for purchasing troops still looks like it's working, even though it actually isn't. Maybe some way to know when you don't have enough money to purchase a fighter The game crashed on me once, so I'm sure there are some bug fixes to work on there as well. Overall, if you like these type of games (send out troops from your castle to defeat the other castle), then you should like this game and it's worth the price (currently US$1.99). I'm giving this one five stars because of the all around fun factor and the creativity that went into the concept.

Don't let the linear 2D side scrolling look to the game fool you. This is anything but simple and low key. The graphics make it half the fun. They're sharp and vibriant full of color and enhance the game that much more. This isn't some auto pilot defender game. You have a say in what happens and how it happens. Being able to contribute to the fight with a stroke of your finger is half the fun. The other half is watching your little puppets duke it out in regional theaters on their way to Broadway fame and glory. A must have for $1.99.

this game was amazing. i played it for hours strait and beat it in a day, i WOULD reccomend it but once you beat it theres not much to do with it.

Battle of Puppets emerges as one of these promising new offerings that foray into a popular and well represented genre. Here, the battle is played out on the theater stage. In Battle of Puppets, you manipulate a veritable showdown of rival puppets fighting to be the biggest Broadway draw in 22 different cities in the US. Basically it’s defend your castle and crush your opponent with your fighting marionettes. Puppets have their respective strengths and weaknesses - the cheap, basic units are fast and easy to create while the more powerful ones take longer and cost more. On top of defeating marionette foes, you need to destroy set constructions, and of course, the enemy base itself. Likewise, your defensive strategy hinges on protecting your puppets and castle at all costs. The winner is the one who crosses over successfully to the other side of the battlefield and destroys the other's castle decisively. There is a level map, and different puppet armies to choose from. In keeping with the theme, these are all named after popular musicals with a unique set of puppets and set design. Ironically, you don't get to hear the famed operas playing - instead a pseudo-classical soundtrack is substituted for these classics. Most of the information that you need is accessible on the screen. A tap pulls up the unit creation menu, another shows a mini-map identifying the location of your units as well as the enemy's. You can easily view the battle by swiping the screen from left to right. A complicating factor is that you can only have a certain number of fighting units on the battlefield at any given time. This means you have to plan and choose your units wisely. Another variable to look out for is the weather, which can pose serious challenges while offering rewards when successful. There are 3 player profiles as well as game modes to explore: battleground, survival and fast battleground. There are likewise 3 levels of difficulty to choose from, and a training mode to practice gestures for using professions. 'Professions' are special power-ups that are activated using gestures, drawing shapes that temporarily stun advancing enemies. I'm waiting for social media integration, as this game is bound for that destination. While there's enough action to keep you busy, I look forward to more levels and puppet armies - even at a higher price tag. A multiplayer option would be fantastic, and this game’s replay value would skyrocket. Beautiful, unique and compelling, Battle of Puppets is a rare original game that turns a familiar genre into a work of art. The uniquely drawn, colorful puppets are done with clarity, vibrancy and flair and the animated cut out set props are unique to each location, making each battle truly a big production. Truly deserving to be on the App Store's New and Noteworthy section, Battle of Puppets gives a dazzling, starmaking performance that makes it one of the best iPhone and iPod Touch games to emerge in 2010.

All I can say is, Wow!!!

I'm still new to the game, but after two hours I'm hooked. It looks fantastic, sounds great and I'm having trouble putting it down! This is a no-brainer for $1.99.

Needs a multplayer.

Not bad but could be better. I was disappointed in the lack of persistent upgrades. The only upgrades you get are the 6 spells.

When I bought this I didn't understand why all the reviews wanted multiplayer. I played it, I love it, my girlfriend played it, loved it, and now we're done. But if we could play each other? That would be so sweet. Great game. The art/sound are just so good. For me though the same strategy worked on basically every level, hence my subtracting one star. I never found another army that required real adaptation. Would love to see more games like this!

Cute, top quality graphics and sound. It plays similar to other games like it where you each have a base on opposite sides of the screen and you send different soldiers across to battle each other in the middle. Some new features here - you play as different "operas" with different strengths. Only 4 stars because the tutorial/instructions are so lacking. If I hadn't played similar hames I would be lost. If you like Ancient Wars and things like that though, you will LOVE this.

Not as fun as cartoon wars. You send puppets out to kill other puppets. There are only 4 types of team mates and almost no upgrades. The campaign is long though, and the puppet theme is well done.

Playing the same level over and over is boring and frustrating to me.

This is one of the most awesome 2D games I've ever played on the iPhone. The art work and animation design is fantastic, major thumb up!! Game play is fun, addictive, and easy to pick up. I have been playing it for hours without any reading any tutorial. Highly recommended!
