What’s better than having one of the best point and click adventure games from the 90s on your iPhone?  Having that same wonderful game on your iPad and fully optimized, of course! Revolution Software has just released an iPad-optimized version of Broken Sword: Director’s Cut, which features new content and a special comic treat. Broken Sword: Director’s Cut HD follows the story of journalist Nico Collard and an American tourist named George Stobbart as they investigate a brutal murder. The game features the same multi-touch interface used in Revolution’s only other game available in the App Store, Beneath a Steal Sky – Remastered, to allow you to easily navigate and solve the many difficult puzzles. It also features new puzzles, jokes, cut scenes, and animations not found in the original version of the game. This new iPad version of Broken Sword also contains a few items not found in the iPhone Read More

Revolution Software released their second iPhone and iPod touch game over the weekend, which is a remake of another classic point and click adventure game titled Broken Sword: Director’s Cut. The very first Broken Sword game was released in 1996, with many other versions eventually following in its wake thanks to a fantastic story that gripped nearly all point and click adventure fans.  This new iPhone and iPod touch version of the game takes the game to a whole new level, however, with new content, UI, and animations. Broken Sword: Director’s Cut follows the story of journalist Nico Collard and an American tourist named George Stobbart as they investigate a brutal murder.  The game features the same multi-touch interface used in Revolution’s other game, Beneath a Steal Sky – Remastered, to allow you to easily navigate and solve the difficult puzzles.  It also features some brand new puzzles, jokes, cut scenes, Read More

Scouring the App Store for the best games is a full time job. Luckily, it's a job held by the guys over at Touch Arcade. Here are their picks for the best games—and only games—available on the iPhone. While the App Store had clearly been a huge success in 2008, the continued growth and explosion of iPhone game releases in 2009 was beyond everyone's expectations. The number of apps in the App Store soared past 100,000 with hundreds of new games being released every day. We sat down trying to figure out the best iPhone games of 2009 and found the task of narrowing down the list to a select few to be near impossible. Instead, we've organized our year in review into categories with what we feel is an excellent cross section of games from 2009. If you just got an iPhone or iPod Touch for Christmas, this list is Read More
I personally like to call 2009 the year of the ports for the AppStore. There are so many games being ported to iPhone it’s incredible. So here’s a look at some of our favorites this year. Remember we can’t possibly post about ALL of them. #1 – Earthworm Jim – Review – iTunes Link – Lite Version Honestly probably the best port I’ve played so far on my iPod, and personal favorite. As a platformer fan I was delighted to hear Gameloft was bringing Earthworm Jim to iPhone with updated graphics. It wins my vote for  best port because that’s just what it is, a great port. The controls fit right in with the iPhone, keeping it challenging yet controlable. And it’s the real deal, not scaled down or anything. It’s one of the best platformers I’ve played on iPhone. #2 – James Cameron’s Avatar - Review – iTunes Link Finally, Read More

Black Friday discounts appear to be coming early as a number of excellent games have just been price reduced to only $0.99. At that price, we highly recommend picking up every one of these titles.   #3   Today, 11:40 AM Senior Member iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.x Join Date: Feb 2010 Location: Planet 10 (by way of the 8th dimension) Posts: 2,711 It's showing up in NZ. Maybe coming tonight. Hasn't this already been released? I saw the game title and it sounded familiar. Once I saw the screen caps, I was sure I had seen this. Turns out that this game was already released almost exactly a year ago. It stood out because I remember that the developer posted that it was "better than AngryBirds". So I wonder if Gamevil bought the rights or if this is exactly the same game repackaged for additional sales? *confused* Game Trailer: ★★★Monkey?! is Read More

Beneath a Steel Sky
Calendar16 Fri, 30 Oct 2009 12:20:28 UTC +00:00
Beneath a Steel Sky is a British 1994 point and click game in the cyberpunk genre quoting Wikipedia. The game was a large hit in the US as well with different beer labels even being applied to the object held up in the games opening credits for advertising. The games main gameplay plays out like many before and after it like The Secret of Monkey Island. It follows the story of a man who is taken from his rural home to the large city mysteriously but escapes and then must find out what is going on. The game is set in a humorous way based on solving puzzles and listening to witty dialogue. I must say that the controls of the game are some of the best on the iPhone that can be found for this genre. The game has been remastered with new cutscenes and better sound quality giving a Read More

Beneath A Steel Sky Remastered for the iPhone is now officially in the AppStore. As we’ve already covered the game, I’ll stop here. Check it out in iTunes for additional details and few screenshots. What I want to talk about here is the sequel – Beneath A Steel Sky 2, which apparently is on the drawing board. We caught the information from the interview with creative pairing Charles Cecil and Dave Gibbons, who said they might be working on a sequel, though nothing is confirmed at this stage. Cecil said: “Well the drawing board is full of ideas right now, some of those include Beneath A Steal Sky 2 and some don’t. There’s certainly more that could be done with those characters.” Dave Gibbons added that “BASS has by no means ended.” He went on to notice: “Once you start to think of possibilities with iPhone and other modern digital platforms, Read More
'Beneath a Steel Sky: Reloaded' Hits the App Store
Calendar16 Wed, 07 Oct 2009 17:31:40 UTC +00:00
Back in July we reported that Revolution Software would be bringing its cult-classic graphic adventure Beneath a Steel Sky to the iPhone through its newly formed mobile group.  We're happy to report that the game is now available for download in the App Store [link]. Originally released for the Amiga and DOS in 1994, Beneath a Steel Sky is a sprawling graphical adventure set in Australia in a dystopian future. The story goes like this: the protagonist, Robert, crashed in the Outback as a child and was raised by a group of natives. After growing into an adult, storm-troopers sent from Union City by its all-powerful computer, LINC, kidnap Robert and kill his tribe. After entering the city dome, the helicopter transporting him crashes and he escapes into the city with his robot companion, Joey. Robert's mission is to find out why he was wanted and what to do next. The Read More

Pure Class!
Seabass 41 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was a huge fan of the point-and-click adventure back in the day. Three brands stood out - Sierra, LucasArts, and Revolution. Playing this game on the iPhone feels just as good as it did back then, it takes me right back to a time when story and character development were so important. In many ways, modern day high-end RPGs like Mass Effect were born out of games like this, and Beneath a Steel Sky is a great introduction to story-based gaming for this generation. It looks great on the iPhone, the voice-acting is fun, the writing is classy, and it feels timely with the current surge in interest in graphic novel-inspired entertainment (Dave Gibbons was artist on Watchmen). Not just great fun as an educational journey back to one of the highlights of the era of the Graphic Adventure, but also top value entertainment by today's standards.
Great implementation!
The Iron_Throne 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This kind of point and click adventure is just perfect for the iPhone. Easy to pick up and play, the loading time is less than ten seconds to start playing, the story is fantastic, and toally hilarious. Totally worth the money. And try not to look at the built in hints until you've looked everywhere and really though about the puzzle and the clues you've been given. It's more fun that way. And remember, those dog biscuits may be important.
cool

When I first played this game on DOS in 1993 (or was it 1994?) - I somehow knew that someday technology would be advanced enough to play this on a handheld device! Finally that dream has come true - how cool is that!
Outstanding!

Awesommmme. Hope someone releases the Gabriel Knight series.
Great story with clever puzzles
plaztiksyke 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Anyone who likes adenture games owes it to themselves to play Beneath A Steel Sky. The story and characters are interesting, and many of the puzzles are clever without being obtuse. The new cutscenes are a nice addition, if a bit long. I have two main complaints: the speech is difficult to understand, so turn on the subtitles; the lack of color depth in the game seems uglier than necessary when compared to the new cutscenes. Hopepfully they can fix both of these issues in a future update.
WOW

A perfect translation of this great point and click adventure. Love the new re-mastered feel of things, and iPhone controls. If you like great stories and adventure games - this is one if the best ever made.

Great contols and a great game. Best port I have plays so far. Way beyond the other. Buy it is worth it. The controls are the best and intuitive.
Real adventure
Shananashay 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
It's a shame there are so few apps like this. Controls are very easy to use. It IS, however, a port of an older game so don't expect newfangled graphics or interface. Some parts are slow (come on, Joey!) and you often have to backtrack to figure out what to do next, but I still highly recommend.
Make intro skippable
Noefresh 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
There's an opening video that just goes on forever before you can play this game and it's not skippable. What were they thinking? Otherwise fine...
The best adventure got better.
