It's a Thursday on the App Store which is as just as good of a reason as any to set your games' prices to free if you're an iOS developer, or, at least, so it would seem. It sort of goes without saying, but due to the volatile nature of pricing on the App Store, you better grab these games now if you're interested in them. Few things are more annoying in the world of iOS gaming than missing a killer freebie. Get your downloading finger ready: Beyond Ynth, Free - [Review] - [Forum Thread] - An absolutely fantastic puzzle game where you play as a little ladybug doing your best to survive each level, often by rotating curiously sectioned off boxes. Do not miss this game while it's free. If you want to give it a go on your iPad, there's Beyond Ynth HD [ $0.99 (HD)], too. Braveheart, Free Read More
There's some pretty neat box-rolling games on the App Store, like Edge [$2.99 / Review] and Beyond Ynth [$1.99 / Review] which are both outstanding. But the latest box-rolling game to hit my iPod is Cubes vs. Spheres [99¢] by ShockPanda Games. It's a 3D physics-based, almost "tower defense" game, where you fight off waves of advancing cubes, which roll towards your circular base. The retina graphics are minimalistic and stylized. It's a sterile white world with ledges, blocky edges and cool structures from which cubes pour down from. The first step is to determine which cubes to attack next (typically the closest, or biggest cluster), then select the most appropriate sphere for the job and finally, swipe the sphere in the appropriate direction, at the necessary speed and power, to smash the approaching cubes into flying fragments. There's six different super-spheres to unlock and buy (with game money). The blue Read More

iOS Games Sweep Every Category at Mobile Gaming Awards
Calendar16 Fri, 18 Feb 2011 17:33:50 UTC +00:00
Posted 02/18/2011 at 9:33am | by Andrew Groen Even though several different platforms had games that were nominated, iPhone gaming stole the show at this year's International Mobile Gaming Awards. The nominees were announced last month and judges were brought in to deliberate shortly thereafter. We have the results of the awards, and while some came as a bit of a surprise, others were destined for victory. The full results are listed below: Best Casual Game: Plants vs. Zombies [iTunes Link] Best Real World Game: AR Invaders [iTunes Link] Best Sports Game: Snowboard Hero [iTunes Link] Excellence in Design: Infinity Blade [iTunes Link] Excellence in Game Play: Beyond Ynth [iTunes Link] Most innovative Game: Papa Sangre [iTunes Link] People's Choice Award: Perfect Cell [iTunes Link] Operator's Choice Award: Snowboard Hero [iTunes Link] Grand Prix / Game of the Year: Beyond Ynth [iTunes Link] Certain games like Plants vs. Zombies were virtually Read More
This has been a crazy week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. I saw a ton of different kinds of mobile phones, tablets, and other devices running all sorts of non-iOS apps and operating systems. Overall, it was really interesting checking out what the competition has to offer. Unfortunately, it was rather difficult to truly gauge the relative gaming performance of these new phones and tablets, as curiously enough, most were just loaded with a smattering of ports of last year's Gameloft games (or older, in the case of Shrek Kart) and Angry Birds. When asked, despite superior hardware, most developers still seemed reluctant to invest too much time or energy in to building games for these new devices, really making me wonder how much longer this "wait and see" approach will persist. Anyway, the reason I was even in attendance at Mobile World Congress in the first place was Read More
Back in September developers Krabl and FDG Entertainment released the follow-up to the quirky platform puzzler Ynth [$2.99] titled Beyond Ynth [$2.99/HD]. The game used some interesting mechanics, tasking the player with rotating boxes of various sizes and shapes in order to get Kribl, the protagonist bug in the game, to the end of each level. Beyond Ynth had a wonderful art style with Retina Display graphics, clever level designs, and unique gameplay, all of which we noted in our review. About the only thing we didn't like was the oft-frustrating trial and error aspect of the game, something that was mostly remedied with a nifty rewind feature that was introduced in an update last month. Now, in lieu of a proper lite version of Beyond Ynth, the developers are following in the footsteps of Angry Birds Seasons [99¢/HD] and Cut the Rope: Holiday Gift [Free] and have released a free Read More

We loved [$3.99 / HD] in our review, but went as far as to mention the fact that the game can be frustrating in the review title. Don't get me wrong, I love a good puzzle game that can leave me stumped at times, but needing to redo entire levels due to minor errors in execution caused my shiny new iPhone 4 to nearly become an airborne projectile more times than I'd care to admit. Before I get ahead of myself, here is a brief overview of the gameplay poached from our review: The gameplay mechanics work well, but later levels are incredibly brutal, and to say they test your patience is an understatement. FDG Entertainment thankfully came to the realization that the game could still be fun and difficult without being frustrating by introducing a new rewind system. When the upcoming 1.1 update lands, players will be able to rewind Read More
is a new puzzler by FDG Entertainment, who is no stranger to the App Store, having published titles like , Kryzer, and Parachute Panic. It is the official successor to Ynth, which was released over a year ago by krabl.com. In Beyond Ynth, you play as Kribl, a ladybug sent by the queen of Kriblonia on a quest to retrieve the diamonds scattered by the four dark spiders of the apocalypse. In order to do so, you must travel through wooden mazes, dodge obstacles and collect diamonds whenever possible. The concept behind Beyond Ynth’s gameplay is certainly unique. It mainly consists of Kribl pushing against wooden boxes from within in order to move along. There are many hindrances that will try to squish, trap, freeze, melt, and incinerate you. There are also boxes, blocks, and acorns that you have to push out of the way so that you can reach the diamonds. It Read More

Precio: 2,99€ / 4,99€ Read More
Just a little more than a year ago, indie developer Krabl released a quirky puzzle platforming game with interesting mechanics titled Ynth [$2.99]. You controlled a tiny bug who rotated boxes from the inside in order to traverse a hazardous marshland. In our review of Ynth, we noted that the game was clever with cute graphics and plenty of content, but the trial and error factor of completing levels could be really frustrating. Now, Krabl and FDG Entertainment have collaborated to bring a sequel to the original game called Beyond Ynth [$3.99/HD]. It still retains some of the frustration factors of the first game but also expands on it in every way and ends up being a fun puzzler with a tremendous amount of content. Beyond Ynth uses beautiful graphics that are optimized for Retina Display. An illustrated story with voiceovers explains the tale of the main character, the tiny bug Read More

Stunning game with stunning production values.
Wildor 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was a little leery of this title since the first version wasn't too well received. While I find it irritating as all heck that the same game is on the iPhone and iPad and this is not a universal app, the actual game is superb! The music is gorgeous, the graphics are positively stunning on the iPhone 4, and the gameplay is simplistic yet tricky. Overall, this is one title that shouldn't be missed, and hopefully the developers wise up and unify the app so we don't have to buy it twice. That kind of behavior just serves to irritate people (me included).
