As a followup to yesterday's inteview with ngmoco CEO Neil Young, this morning we spoke with Freeverse President Ian Lynch Smith to hear what the recent purchase of Freeverse by ngmoco means to them. The full audio is attached below, but here is a summary of the talk. Originally founded in 1994, Freeverse's earliest titles were Mac shareware games. They later branched out in to games for Windows, XBOX Live Arcade, and most recently the iPhone. Freeverse's was one of the few 3D games that launched with the App Store. Also immediately available were and . They then went on to release a catalog of great iPhone games, both developed in house and and by outside developers published by Freeverse. Best Looking Sudoku Available!
Puzzle Girl 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I think this is the best looking Sudoku game available on the App Store! Freeverse consistantly delivers great Mac products. This game is perfect to play on my commute. I am addicted to Big Band Sudoku!
A very good version of Sudoku
Arizona_Bound 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Much better than the Sudoku on the older iPods. Very easy to move numbers in and out of the grid.
Well Done
John from Massachusetts 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
The program is nice looking, but more importantly it lets you work the puzzles without getting in the way. Better than my previous favorite Sudoku application, Freeverse's own free iPhone web app. Worth the paid upgrade.
Generally good
Railrider 3.0 stars Version: 1.2
A very nice and attractive version of Sudoku. I've played it a lot and it seems quite stable. There's a couple of things I would change:
Most played on my iPhone
Shawn Parr 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
This is the most played game on my iPhone. It works very well, and looks great. I also greatly enjoyed the free web version, which is what led me to search for and purchase this version. I do prefer the size and mechanics of changing the numbers in the web app vs. this version. For instance I find it very easy to put a number in the wrong cell. On the web version when you tapped a cell it would bring up a number chooser which you could dismiss if you hit the wrong cell. On this version clicking a cell changes it instantly, and if you were not paying enough attention you may have to empty the cell back out and recalculate it. This is less likely to occur in the web version anyway as the cells are much larger and easier to hit. I emailed Freeverse, and they said they would consider giving an option to make the web style interface available. If that happened it would be 5 stars. Others who prefer the web interface should also email to show demand for the feature.
Well Done
JetEngr19 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
This is very similar to Bin Bang's web app, but is much snappier. I found the fonts/text to be slightly out of focus compared to the web app. Otherwise, this is my favorite Sudoku game.
Two fixes away from excellence...
Onerous 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
Version 1.1 is an almost great implementation of Sudoku, except for two problems.
Great Game
ladybug1348 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I play this game a lot! I had the older game on my phone so when this came out I did not hesitate to buy it. I think this is better since it keeps your game and stats and doesn't reload and start new each time. Also lots faster for us EDGE users.
Outstanding Sudoku Game for iPhone
FMOmbr 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
After reading the reviews - decided to try this Sudoku. Excellent choice. Exactly what I was looking for!
Great Version
sterling_anderson 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Lots of Sudoku games to choose from. I've been a fan of Freeverse so I went with their's. Not disappointed, it's a great game.
Best Sudoku for iPhone!
Flute14k 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I spent the better part of the past year looking for the best Sudoku app on the web & came up with Big Bang as the undisputed winner. The native version is even better!! Great graphics & effects! It's well worth the price, even if you already have the free web app.
Freeverse does it again!
imfrog2002 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I love sudoku, and this game puts it in my pocket, wherever I go! The graphics are amazing, and the pencil feature is a great addition. Well worth the $5! Keep up the great work, I can't wait to see more games in the App Store!
Another Freeverse Hit
AlphaBob 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Freeverse made their reputation on Mac games. Always fun and often edgy, they have an App-Store hit on their hands.
Big Bang is the Bomb!
np. 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I loved the web app version of this game. $4.99 is a good price too. Excellent job guys!
Simply the best
BurntCheese 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I love big bang sudoku on my mac and the web iPhone version was okay too but I knew I just had to have this when it went native. Absolutely love it with thegood graphics and easy controls. And who doesn't love the witty Sun God?
Feeling alittle green
quirts 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
I love sukoku and this game appeared to have all the bells and whistles that I like in an electronic version. However, the starfield spinning in the background made me sick to my stomach before I could finish the first game. If only I could turn it off!
Stats reset
King Kovifor 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I think I was on 1.1 when I installed it, and I liked looking at stats (seeing how far I have come to the overall puzzle count) and was extremely disappointed to see that installing 1.2 completely deleted my stats. Good game tho!
Best Sudoku, but....
Gheti 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
I love the feel and look of this game......my only complaint is that the moving background is a little distracting (not too bad, though) and is eating battery like it's candy. Any chance of having an option to turn the movement off? Great job!

Game Cat 2.0 stars Version: 1.2
Really disappointing sudoku; missing many features. Does not highlight the number you are working with; does not update pencil marks; difficult to see, especially the pencil marks, which are so tiny as to be almost invisible. Very poor contrast between marks and background.
Very nice App but missing AutoFill Pencil Marks for empty cells
InigoMontoyaFan 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
I love this app and Freeverse did a great job. It is very similar to the version included with Big Bang Board Games - BUT the iPhone version does not include Auto Fill Pencil marks for empty cells (as some other iPhone Sudoku's have). I would love to see that in the next version. Thanks!!
Bad design choices
Bigame 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
I've been playing the free web-based version of this game for some time now, and find I still prefer it over the downloadable app. Here's why: 1) the focus overall is too soft. 2) the choice of colors for the given numbers is too light. When combined, the small possibles (pencilled-in numbers) are simply too difficult to read. In addition, the animated background is a bother. All in all, an inferior version to the web app.
Not as good as the web version
Jeff Medcalf 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
There are two problems I have with the paid version. The first is that the menu option to disable sounds did not work for me. The second is the interface. In the web version, you click a cell and are presented with an overlaid window with the ability to select a vale or pencil in a set of values. In this version, you select a value, then apply it to a cell. This also applies when penciling in numbers. The net effect is that to fill in a cell's potentials, you tap the pencil, then the number, then the cell, then the next number, then the cell again. It's too many extra taps. Not a bad version of Sudoku, but not as good as the free version. I only see myself using this when I have no connectivity.
Just keeps crashing...
sobolevnrm 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
This game keeps crashing every time I load it. I've only been able to get to the "New Game" menu before it stops running.
Good version of Sudoku for on the go
russellbarnett 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I like my Sudoku, and this version is very good. It was designed to be played with one hand, which makes it convenient to play for a few minutes here and there while waiting in line, etc. Not a lot else to say really, Sudoku is Sudoku and the basic mechanics aren't going to change much from game to game.
Awesome!
JosephMclaughlin 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
This is a great app! Well worth the 4.99!
Very good sudoku
th3r06e 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
This is one of my favorite sudoku versions. I used to play this one when it was a webapp... before apps for the iPhone and iTouch. The app version of it is fairly stable (will crash every once in a while) but is otherwise a very very good interpretation of the classic number puzzle.
