I am a practicing attorney in New York and can say without a doubt that this application is INVALUABLE both in and out of court. Quick reference to obscure terms, as well as audio pronunciations make this app a great alternative to actually carrying around a hard copy (or hunting around on the internet). Most of all, the app is well thought out in its layout and quite stable for a first release.

Works perfectly. If I could only get case books as apps I could lose my backpack.

Very quick to load, good interface... The dictionary itself, well, if you are reading this, you already know so yes, this is the full version. I was waiting for this and couldn't be happier with it. Thank you Westlaw/Blacks for doing this.

I think every word you will ever come across in Law is in this dictionary. Even words no longer used are in here. Also, very helpful cross-referencing. Highly recommend!!

It appears to be a great application but unfortunatley i cannot install it. I just purchased this app for 50 bucks and get an error 0xE8008017 on my brand new iphone 3gs. I dont know if it has issues with the new 3.0 software or what, but at the current moment its not working and im out 50 bucks.

What I like most:

I am an international law student. Since I have used this app for almost 2 weeks, I can tell everyone that this app is very useful for people who work in the field of law and who don't want to carry a big book. This app is absolutely the same as a real black law dict. The thing that I like the most is links that you can tab to see other vocabolaries while you are in the word you are looking for. Nevertheless, this app is no a bookmark which allows me to record vocabs after I look up. I need this ability because I want to come back to review and memorize them again. To a developer, please update this ability in the next update. I hope that this will help many people a lot to gain benefits with this wonderful app.

Absolutely this is the most expensive app in my touch. It's so convenient, and it has the page number of each term! Good for citation. Also, it can speak out most of the words which are hard to pronounce, greater than that thick book~ But just as hdaa said, there're still little problem. And I add one here, just a piece of advice for the developer: give us a bookmark function, I think is not that hard. Anyway, I never regret of this app~. it's great!

I've been in school for three days and this app has already paid for itself. Reading federal civil procedure is a new language in itself and black's has yet to let me down when looking for a new definition. It is written in a way that assumes the word you are searching for and saves a ridiculous amount of time instead of flipping through pages in the hardcover version. It's a lifesaver.

It is an excellent application, but it should be updated to the recenly published Ninth Edition of the book. Bookmark and history functions would also be good improvements.

I am currently a 1L and I use this app everyday. It's more convient than using the actual book or using the westlaw website. My one suggestion is similar to the other reviews, which is that there should be some sort of a "history." It would be helpful to go to it in case I need to look up a word again. Also, some sort of a bookmark would be nice. Otherwise this app, although expensive indeed, is well worth it.

Those that have access (account) to West Law, will appreciate the integration of Blacks Law 'online' dictionary. However, those without, are unable to utilize the important embedded links therein. Thus, it would be great if West offered 'watered down' access to their website as to allow utilization of the embedded links. Also, I wish the application permitted browsing via alphabetical order.

I have it, I use it all the time in law school. But $50 bucks. That is totally absurd. I bought it because one of my lawyer friends gave me $50 of app store credit just to get it. But the westlaw links and the pronunciation are awesome. It's a great app. But 10 bucks max.
