Box boosts iOS app with better photos, offline mode
Calendar16 Thu, 08 Dec 2011 17:00:14 UTC +00:00
If you signed up for the Box iOS app to get that free 50 GB of storage, you should be on the lookout for an update today because it will make your cloud-storage app better to use. According to the company, the new iOS app for iPhone and iPad includes: Video and Photo Upload: We’ve added the ability to create new folders and upload videos and photos to your Box account directly from your iPhone or iPad. This makes it simple to share files fast when you’re on the go and keep all your content organized – and safely stored – on Box. Certain workers, like those on a construction site, can use this feature to update the home office instantly with images of site progress. Full-Text Search: To help you access all that content quickly from your phone or tablet, we’ve also added full-text search to the app. Locate individual Read More
TiPb Picks of the Week for October 21, 2011
Calendar16 Sat, 22 Oct 2011 14:49:11 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Saturday, Oct 22, 2011 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! This week’s pick was an easy one. Instapaper has long been one of my favorite apps, and I’ve been using it for years. Developer Marco Arment has released an incredible update to the app this week, one of the biggest (if not the biggest) in the lifespan of the app. Instapaper 4.0 has so many new features, I’m not even going to list them here (plus, if my geek-Cylon intuition is right, a certain other Read More

Calendar16 Fri, 14 Oct 2011 19:23:40 UTC +00:00
Box.net for iOS gives you fast and easy access to your cloud account--all 50GB' worth! Looking for a boatload of free cloud storage? If you own an iDevice, you can score 50GB of it, no strings attached. That's the deal being offered by Box.net: 50GB of online storage for anyone who installs the Box.net app on an iPhone, iPod Touch, or Pad. (Sorry, Android users--not sure why you're being left out.) The app itself is free, as is the Personal account you'll be creating. And if you already have an account, merely signing into it gives you that 50GB bump. The promotion runs through December 2, but you get to keep the 50GB forever. And that space is available anywhere you use your account, not just on your handset or tablet. In case you're not familiar with it, Box.net is cloud-storage service not unlike Dropbox and SugarSync. After uploading your various Read More

iOS-Promo: Box.net verschenkt 50GB
Calendar16 Thu, 13 Oct 2011 23:45:12 UTC +00:00
That’s why we’re happy to announce that we’re giving away 50 GB of free storage to anyone who uses a Box Personal account on an iOS device. That’s right, it’s 50 GB in the cloud completely free, forever. Read More
Right as many of you are getting your hands on iCloud, Box is offering iOS users 50 GB of cloud storage for free. Really. There aren’t any strings attached. While Box and iCloud both utilize the cloud, the services are a bit different. Apple’s iCloud uses the cloud to push content and media across your Apple devices but it doesn’t eliminate the need for on-board storage. Box is essentially a hard drive in the sky where you can download your content on multiple devices and platforms or you can stream that content too. For the next 50 days, all you have to do to get the 50 GB of free storage is download the iOS app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and log in with your account or create a new one. That’s it. I suggest just getting it anyways if you have iOS even if you don’t plan Read More
9 Presentation Apps for the iPad
Calendar16 Thu, 12 May 2011 00:16:00 UTC +00:00
Continuing our series on iPad apps for work, today we'll look at presentation tools. Presentations seem like the killer use case for business travelers that need to give presentations but don't need a full-powered laptop. Not every iPad app is capable of outputting to a projector, so even if you want to present just Web pages, you're probably going to need to download an app. Let's take a look at what's available. Many of you won't want to look much further than Keynote, especially if you already use it on your Mac. The iPad version allows you to not only display Keynote and Microsoft PowerPoint files, but to create and edit presentations. It features built-in templates, animated slide transitions and the ability to export in PDF format. It costs $9.99. But what if you want to present something from the Web? Or if you want to do some live white boarding? Read More
5 Document Collaboration Tools for the iPad
Calendar16 Fri, 06 May 2011 00:15:43 UTC +00:00
Continuing our series on iPad apps for work, today we'll look at document collaboration tools for the iPad. First of all, the iPad isn't great for this. As Instapaper creator Marco Arment, wrote recently: "The iPad isn't really a great 'office productivity' device, in the traditional PC sense. It can be used that way in some cases, but it's rarely the best tool for the job." That said, there are a few apps that enable you to view, edit and share documents using the iPad. With one exception, we decided to keep this list limited to apps that have editing and sharing capabilities, so certain popular apps like Dropbox, GoodReader and WatchDox weren't included. Box recent released a new version of its file sharing and document collaboration app for iPad. Box gives you 5GB of storage space for free, as well as tools for editing documents and commenting on them. Google Read More
Free App Friday: Living in the Cloud
Calendar16 Fri, 10 Dec 2010 22:46:27 UTC +00:00
Posted 12/10/2010 at 2:46pm | by Florence Ion Here at Mac|Life, we really do love free apps. We love loading up our iOS devices with seriously utilitarian apps that live in the cloud, too. Here's a look at some of our favorite cloud applications that work across ALL platforms--Mac, iPhone and iPad. If you're not a part of drop box, you are seriously missing out on one of the most helpful services we've ever used. The service plants a folder on your hard drive that syncs across all computers using the service. The mobile app lets you view your documents and even play a song on the go. If you've got MobileMe, there's no reason not to access it on your iOS device. iDisk lets you view and share your MobileMe files, as well as view iWork, Office, Quicktime and PDF files. You can also access other Public folders from this Read More
9 iPhone Apps for Managing the Recruiting Process
Calendar16 Tue, 02 Nov 2010 14:30:45 UTC +00:00
This post originally appeared on the American Express OPEN Forum, where Mashable regularly contributes articles about leveraging social media and technology in small business. Typically when businesses decide they need to hire someone, they want to hire as soon as possible. So, time is of the essence in getting the position filled (with the right person, of course). When a single open job listing can yield hundreds of candidates, being able to manage the recruiting process becomes key. Neither companies nor candidates want to be burdened with a bunch of administration. Instead of creating new processes or downloading a bunch of new apps, here are some iPhone apps you might already have that can help you manage the recruiting process. Let us know in the comments below which mobile apps you use to streamline your company’s recruiting process. You’re at a networking event and meet someone who might be a good Read More
By Allyson Kazmucha, Thursday, Aug 19, 2010 | We’re shifting our focus from iOS 4 compatibility updates to any iPhone or iPad app or game, new or updated, that seems especially awesome.   So if you guys see anything you think deserves some special attention, let us know in the comments and we’ll look at including it in a future roundup!  Continue on to see what we found this time! Pandora recently updated their current app to support hi-res images on the iPhone 4. It also fixes several issues with the last version of Pandora. This will also change control settings for volume control and fix crash issues. Since downloading this update, Pandora’s been a lot more stable for me. How’s it been for you guys? Box.net is a great service for sharing files and viewing them on the go. They offer free accounts as well as paid accounts. There’s a Read More
by Cloud storage and collaboration platform Box.net has just updated its iPhone and iPad application with support for offline downloads and background processing in iOS 4. The update, which should be hitting the App Store soon, will make it easier for users to get things done and access their documents, whether they are connected to the Internet or not. The Box.net app [iTunes link] was one of the first business apps with iPad compatibility. To better understand how the app and the iPad are being used by small businesses, the company is doing real-world research with D7 Consulting, according to Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box.net. One of the biggest feature requests from D7 employees was the ability to access files offline. Offline file access isn’t usually a big factor for mobile phone users, but when using a device that is Wi-Fi-only or in a situation where no data connection Read More
Box.net for iPad – app review
Calendar16 Wed, 26 May 2010 01:32:03 UTC +00:00
Box.net for iPad is a front end to Box.net’s cloud-based service that allows you to manage and share your data from anywhere. Thanks to the app, you can access your content not only through the Box.net website on any computer, but from your mobile devices now as well. The iPad version has a very intuitive and easy to use interface.  I recently set up an enterprise unlimited Box account for our business.  As we are in real estate development, we have tons of files to upload.  I was surprised you can even view AutoCad files with a plug-in.  Plug-ins are another area I really enjoyed looking at.  OpenBox is a service Box.net offers which features several plug-ins for 3rd party clients and apps that can work in conjunction with Box.net.   I spoke to a consultant at Box.net that also confirmed desktop syncing is about to come out of beta and hit Read More
The application period for the Box.net iPad offer has ended. Stay tuned for more on the progress of the experiment soon! There are plenty of cloud storage and collaboration services that sound good in an elevator pitch or seem promising when sketched on the back of a napkin; precious few ever really get working at a scale and sophistication that truly can make a difference for the vast majority of users. One service that has the track record to claim that crown (not to mention a long list of happy customers) is Box.net, which has been pushing bits and making friends since 2005. Beyond the web-centric file storage and laundry list of distributed applications that Box offers, there's an item of keen interest to iPhone and iPad users: the new and improved Box.net app, which gives you easy and rapid access to your entire file library on the go. 6 Best iPad Apps for Business Users
Calendar16 Sun, 18 Apr 2010 16:22:47 UTC +00:00
This post originally appeared on the American Express OPEN Forum, where Mashable regularly contributes articles about leveraging social media and technology in small business. Since the iPad was released, more than 450,000 devices have been sold. While some may decry the lack of a physical keyboard and the App Store ecosystem as reasons why the iPad can’t be used for “real” business work, the truth is, the form factor is perfect for the business professional on the go who doesn’t need to have a full laptop. Pairing an iPad with cloud services is already proving to be a really powerful solution, and the iPad App Store is barely a week old! A few weeks ago I discussed some of my favorite business apps for the iPhone. These are some of the early standouts for the iPad. GoodReader is hands-down, the best PDF reader for the iPhone and the iPad version is Read More

Being able to access your files remotely can be a lifesaver. There are tons of solutions for that with cloud storage services like Box.net or Mobile Me and their respective apps. The thing is, and you probably experienced that as well; when you’re missing a file, it’s most likely one that you did not have the presence of mind to put online. The Here, File File! app, which we announced a little while ago, is here to solve that by simply letting you access your entire file system remotely in a fast and convenient way. Let me tell you up front that it’s however not for everyone. First of all, for Here, File File to function; you’ll be required to install and be constantly running a little Mac-only program. This means that if your computer is off, not online or not a mac; well, you’re out of luck. If that doesn’t stop you Read More

In less than 24-hours the iPad will finally be released. Now, the hardware, however sexy it might be, is not why so many people are itching to buy the device: It’s all about the apps! In the ramp-up to the iPad release, more and more applications have been announced or previewed and now that the apps are live in iTunes, we already know what apps will be available on day one. Over the last few weeks, we’ve thought a lot about what apps we most want to try on the iPad upon its release and these ten represent some of our favorites. The selection of applications is varied — from games to web services to whole new product types. However successful the iPad ends up being will hinge in part on the apps available for the device. If these ten are any indication — iPad users have a lot to look Read More

The storage mavens at Box.net took a few moments for us on the show floor at Macworld this week to demo the iPhone app that links to their service, which provides quick and consistent access to all your stored files; you can also view common file types, and even send download links to folders or files anywhere in the world. The latest update adds the ability to comment on files or folders from inside the app. Another new addition at the show is the capability for QuickOffice users on the iPhone to open and edit Box.net stored files (via the $9.99 QuickOffice Connect Mobile Suite), which could provide a big productivity boost. It was impressive -- with the app, you can jump in and edit Box.net files from anywhere. Good stuff. And heck, just imagine what's around the corner for iPad users with QuickOffice and Box.net. Handy App... But doesn't seem to offline cache...
Mikemanme 3.0 stars Version: 1
Wish it would cache the files locally... Seems to pull the docs each time. It is a handy app, just slow to access if not over wifi. Aka if u have big PDFs it is frustrating, but small files are not a problem.
So cool, or at least it will be
j2mac 4.0 stars Version: 1
I'm so pleased Box.net released this app, and will be recommending it to clients soon, but not just yet...
Box.net

Works well, but only 14 d free trial; thereafter you have to pay. Dropbox.com is free (1 gb) and works perfectly and is very unique application for iphone and Mac.
i'm don't like it
livsik 2.0 stars Version: 1
imho a.i. disk is much better for using with box.net.
No support for landscape?
oakie51 2.0 stars Version: 1
You're touting a doc and multimedia viewer and you don't support landscape viewing? C'mon. You're promoting a paid service with a free, easy to use app but fail to support a vital feature. You guys can and should have done better.
Nice app
iscripter 4.0 stars Version: 1
One thing I would change is the share feature. And allowing you to choose the email address of the person. And not just using the default address.
Sweet
Fileguy 5.0 stars Version: 1
Web storage for the iPhone. I can load up my docs and mwdia anywhere
Needs Landscape
boriscleto 2.0 stars Version: 1
Would be 5 stars if it rotated to landscape view.
Alright....
mlongpre 3.0 stars Version: 1
Needs some more features like mentioned before; landscape mode for viewing files and support for files need to be better. I can't seem to view any .mp4 files or any m4a files. Please make this app more funtional because then it would really shine.
box.net is great
ericisback 4.0 stars Version: 1
App. works great except the bottom file in a large folder is inaccessible (page "snaps back" to hide file). This bug fix will get the app. 5 stars.
Great Functionality
Jash Sayani 4.0 stars Version: 1
It's nice to be able to access all important Box.net files from the iPhone now and almost all types of files can be previewed. However, an option to download these files would be even better. And also to be able to attach the file to a mail and send it. Hope to see these features in the coming versions.
Compatibility issue
V-Fisa 3.0 stars Version: 1
Why is this app only for iPhone and iPod Touch 2nd gen.? Where is the reason?
doesn't work with iPod Touch?
xxdesmus 4.0 stars Version: 1
I'm giving you guys 4 stars because I know you must have left out support for the iPod Touch on accident. I can't wait to use this app. I've been a long time Box.net supporter/fan.
finally!
AlisonJ 5.0 stars Version: 1
Very convenient for referencing my files on-the-go. I've been waiting for this one for a while.

Mimil76 5.0 stars Version: 1
I've been using Box.net for two years now both for all my important personal files and some pro files I need to share or bring home to work on. I've been waiting for a looooonnng time the iPhone Box app to show up and I must say I'm very satisfied by it. It's simple, fast and smooth, like the web app.
A good start but missing some features
Uadji 4.0 stars Version: 1
Some people have already pointed out a few flaws and considering this App is free you can't complain too much.
Awesome!
Samisus 5.0 stars Version: 1
I now have an easy access to all my files from anywhere. Great!

Nice app
AznJeccA 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
It stinx that we can't upload anything other than photos. And that we can't download our files into our itouchs/iPhones either. These should be added. But other than that it is really good :]]
Excellent
Crazyitouchowner 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Very useful
great idea, just too sloooooow
astr0cyte 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
too much lag in basic scrolling through lists, making it almost unusable when i just want to take a quick look at a file. otherwise a great idea and potentially very useful for me. please update to improve interface response speed!
Very Good Product
iPhone Aficionado 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
I have had a Box.net account for over a year now and love the service. After purchasing my new iPhone 3G I was delighted to find this application on the App. Store. I can access all of my Box.net content while on the road. The program works flawlessly. Tip for Box.net users: I created a separate "iPhone" folder for files I most frequently access when traveling. This reduces scrolling through folders.
Great app
Giemsa 5.0 stars Version: 1
One of the most useful apps available
Just one thing
Piiickyyyyy 4.0 stars Version: 1
If you enable the landscape view for PDF files, it will be 5 stars.
great idea, however..
dark magshin 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
as an ipod touch user, the ability to download items to the device is a must. that is one of the only things stopping this app from being the best it can be. however editing documents on the go would be amazing and i would even consider paying money for this app if i could edit even just word or txt docs. the online service itself is amazing. in short, even if this app was terrible, i would continue to use the box.net service, however i think that this app could become the thing that makes it perfect.
