When I think of TAITO, I still think of playing Sky Shark on my old PC running DOS in the mid 80′s. It’s pretty amazing that the company that guided my airplane obsession as a youth is now pumping out great iPhone games in the 21st century. Ok, enough of my childhood memories, on to the game sale! Earlier this month we previewed Linkoidz, a new arcade puzzle matching game from Retro Dreamer Games, developer of Sneezies [99¢/Lite/HD]. Based on that preview video, Linkoidz looked similar to Astropop or Magical Drop Touch [$2.99] in that you actually suck in orbs from the stacks in the playfield and place them strategically in order to create matches and combos, rather than being given brand new orbs to match each time as in a game like Bust-A-Move [$4.99/Lite]. Earlier tonight Linkoidz [$1.99] went live on the App Store, and after spending some time with the game it does strike me as very much like the aforementioned games offering some fast-paced arcade matching, sharp and colorful graphics, and an interface that feels right at home on a touch screen. Bust-A-Move is a bubble elimination game that has made its way over to the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game was originally popular in Japan under another name, but eventually made it over to other areas of the world to offer it's cute characters and smooth gameplay to more customers. The game features a simple storyline but is most definitely an arcade game. The gameplay is a very smooth and casual experience. The idea is to shoot the different colored bubbles up into the fray trying to match 3 or more to eliminate them. Once all are eliminated, the next round starts and is a bit more challenging. Taito brings us a classic puzzle to the iPhone. Don’t just stand there, Bust-A-Move! Bust-A-Move ($4.99) The original “Bust-A-Move” (in some areas, known as “Puzzle Bobble”) game is reborn on the iPhone, bursting with bubble-popping fun for both 1 and 2 players! This one’s not a joke, Taito got it right again! My Take Ok, this is the one port I extremely looked forward to.  Taito seems to get the whole idea on the iPhone porting business.  Even though the game is already established, you still have to fine tune it to work on any given system.
