Calendar16 Mon, 04 Oct 2010 20:36:46 UTC +00:00
Posted 10/04/2010 at 12:36pm | by Andrew Hayward Each new iPhone has offered fresh and fantastical ways to improve your daily life, but the epic tag-team of the iPhone 4 and iOS 4 deliver the greatest set of tools and features to date. With the introduction of FaceTime video calls, multitasking, and the high resolution Retina display, the iPhone 4 has moved even further away from being just a powerful phone and web-surfing device. Now more than ever, the iPhone is a true lifestyle-enhancing accessory. Between the built-in features and the hundreds of thousands of options in the App Store, not to mention a few key accessories, the iPhone 4 can be figuratively formed and changed to fit your daily needs, whether you’re planning your daily commute, knocking out items on your to-do list, or simply looking to try a new restaurant. With this wide-ranging versatility in mind, we’ve come up Read More
iPhone app showdown: battle of the CTA bus trackers
Calendar16 Fri, 24 Apr 2009 00:46:00 UTC +00:00
If you're a Chicago resident, you are undoubtedly aware that the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) allows you to track the exact location of a number of bus lines through its CTA Bus Tracker website thanks to GPS. This, in turn, allows you to determine exactly where the closest bus is and when it will be arriving at your stop (since the busses are susceptible to traffic, they almost never arrive according to the predetermined schedule). But if you are already out of the house, the CTA Bus Tracker's website is, let's just say, less than ideal on a mobile device like the iPhone. Since the bus data is available for third parties to incorporate into their own apps, however, two iPhone apps have sprung up to try and make presentation prettier and easier to use. And since we are loyal Chicago residents, we figured what better way to compare these two Read More

Great way to not miss the bus!
bmg_review 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I'm perpetually early to the bus stop, 'cause I never want to get there JUST as the bus pulls away (the CTA not being the friendliest when it comes to waiting just one more second.) Buster is great, 'cause it lets me know just how much time I've got to before I gotta be there. Highly recommended!
The CTA should buy this app
davebc 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Buster is gorgeous, fast, and easy to use. The favorites feature is perfect, and I'm surprised it took a third party to actually do it right, let alone at all. About the only complaint I have so far is the name; can't figure out why it's called "Buster." Anyway, great app, in fact I think it should cost more, maybe $1.99.
So lovely!
rhoticity 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I have been waiting SO long for a Bus Tracker app! I only wish I had an iPhone so I could use it while at the bus stop. It is so easy to use and I seriously appreciate the favorite feature. And kudos; the graphics are gorgeous without being intrusive.
Exactly the app I've been wanting.
Benjibot 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
In the time leading up to my purchase of my iPhone I thought a lot about the Bus Tracker service offered by the CTA. I'd been using the site on my computer since it launched, and had been checking arrival times with my old mobile phone's web browser despite said browser being rather crippled. I assumed with a browser as robust as Safari the iPhone would render the CTA site just as efficiently on the phone as it did on my MacBook.
excellent
Natural_Mike 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Buster loads quickly and the interface (besides looking nice) is easy to use. The real selling point for me was the ability to add favorites, a feature that I've always wanted to see on the CTA site.
So so at best
Doc consult 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
First time I used it it was quick and useful. Second time it refused to connect. Third time it was painfully slow. It's about as reliable and consistent as the CTA itself: great at times, awful at others.
Perfect!!
Kaibelf 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Speed and simplicity. Way better than the site! Thank you for creating this app!!
A well-designed Bus Tracker app
Zolk 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Finally, a Bus Tracker app for the iPhone that doesn't use lime green text! I really have to commend the Buster developers for doing a great job with the design of this app. Using a clock illustration to graphically represent the time until the next bus is a really cool and innovative way to visualize the data. I can just glance at that and immediately get an idea of how long the wait for the next bus will be. One thing I wish this app included was bus numbers for each prediction. Admittedly, this would mainly only help those familiar with CTA's fleet numbers, but if I see that the next 147 bus will be a potentially-cramped 40-footer instead of a longer 60-foot bus, I would opt for the Red Line instead. Bus numbers would also be helpful if you're curious about how long it will be until the bus you're on reaches a particular stop. You can just pull up the arrival times for the desired stop while on the bus, and then determine the ETA for your bus based on the bus number.
Please add the bus numbers
PilotHeinrich 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Best CTA Bus Tracker app out there. Love the speed and interface. Please consider adding the bus numbers (I don't mean the route numbers). With the bus numbers you can look up your destation and figure out how long it will take the bus you are on to get there. That data is in the CTA feed and the only reason I still use the CTA web version.
Keep It Up
Toast322 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Very nice and handy app. I hope the developers maintains and offers greater functionality (GPS/map integration) in the future.
Nice but incomplete bus listings
chicago.tar.heel 3.0 stars Version: 1.1.0
The UI is definitely better than the CTA website’s, but there are no routes numbered higher than 165 even though all CTA routes are on the bus tracker system as of 18 May 2009. Therefore, you may still need to use the CTA site with this app. I hope this oversight is fixed soon.
Nice but check the routes
kdjk 3.0 stars Version: 1.1.0
Very sweet application. Easy to use. Be careful to check that your bus is on the list of included routes because they are not all there at this time. I actually only need one bus and it is not here even though it is on the cta website. Maybe they will add it soon?

Tvlguy 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.0
Using the CTA on a daily basis this is a godsend. No more waiting in bad weather. Being able to utilize numerous bus routes there is no more guessing which bus will come first. MUCH better than the CTA website. You should sell this app to them!! BRAVO!
Awesome alternative to the CTA Mobile Site
Sid Farkus 4.0 stars Version: 1.1.0
This is such a handy app and is really a great alternative to the cumbersome and labrynthic mobile CTA site. The UI is nice and the ability to save favorties is worth the $.99 alone. I tested the data against the mobile site last night on my way home, and the data matched up perfectly. Unsure if it has all the lines listed, but it has mine so I am a happy camper. Integration with the CTA Rail Schedule would make this the killer one-stop CTA app, in that you could avoid having to go outside the app to visit Google maps.
love this app
bluepoet78 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.0
So much easier than navigating through the CTA's bus tracker online. Buster opens right to my favorites, so my most common routes/stops are right there. The interface is clean and easy, and it's easy to read. Can't wait till the next update with all the routes.
A Public Transit Must-Have
lampslide 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.0
The developers obviously put lots of time and effort into creating a clean, friendly interface and making a fast, useful application. If you ride the bus in Chicago, you need this app. Plain and simple.
refresh option needed
Pjgchgo 3.0 stars Version: 1.1.0
Cta site refreshes. This apps needs a 30 second refresh to make it more useful. Layout i great. Easy to use.
Bussing
A guy that wanted to have a zoom 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
I takethe bus a lot, and this is so much better than the website or anyother app that you have to get it. All of the problems I had with the website are gone, an this updates and loads faster! Outstanding.
Useful and well thought-out
Myshkin57 4.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
This is an incredibly well laid-out and easy to use app. If you use public transit in Chicago, this is the best app available. Only thing they could do to make it better is automatically find bus stops for you using GPS. And if the CTA ever has a train tracker (you cannot go by the schedules), incorporation of that could really make CTA travel a pleasure.
Must Have App!
.evolvE 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
First of all, I've purchased/downloaded about 3 other apps and they don't come close to this. It's accurate, easy, and there are FAVORITES!
Great App I Didn't Even Know I Needed
souch3 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
This is an app with an excellent east to use layout. It is far faster then the CTA mobile website for looking up the information. The location tool is great at finding near by bus stops and the information is accurate. Well worth the $.99
Fantastic app - you will love it!
Sanda13 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
This app is required for anyone who uses buses in Chicago even minimally. I don't now how I lived without it.
Excellent improvements to a very handy app
Stutoo 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.0
1.2 uses the new Map features of iPhone 3.0. It's very well done, so you ask it what's nearby, and Buster shows you a map with nearby stops.
Beats snot out of CTA mobile tracker site
disco pants 4.0 stars Version: 1.2.0
Would love to see add'l info added, particularly the hours of operation for each route.
Thank You!
momof2r 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.0
Myself and the women in my group just want to thank you for this app which is going to make our big Chicago trip a lot easier! PS: Any women reading if you like travel, you have to get the "Girl Trip" app I recently got, it rocks for travel info for women getaways. Thanks again to the makers if this app!
Heck yeah!
ChicagoComet 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.0
This app solves all my public transit problems. The layout is easy to use and colors are pleasing to the eye. The Favorites feature is awesome. I showed it to a couple of coworkers today and they ended up purchasing. Thanks
