This program presents a well thought out user interface and contains a wide variety of words and phrases. The application is targeted towards basic Mandarin learners. However, it does assume the user has some background in chinese language, such as how to read PinYin and/or Chinese characters.

This app is a great step wise appraoch to memorizing chinese vocabulary. I have really enjoyed it and feel it is worth the money. However I agree with other reviewers the pinyin is small and the tones are almost impossible to see. Would give it 5 stars if the tones were visible. Thanks!

This app remains until the font sizes are fixed. Make the Hanzi and pinyin bigger (at least as large as the English) and it will easily be worth 5-stars.

good but I would like to learn different Chinese characters

The audio flashcard system in this app is excellent. There appears to be tons of content. You really can't use this for learning Chinese lettering, as the characters are displayed too small and this doesn't seem to be the goal anyway. You also are not going to get basic Chinese pronunciation out of this, as an English speaker needs instruction in how to say qi vs chi vs shi vs xi, zi, ri, ci, si. as they're not obvious from hearing them. But for what this is it's top notch.

Two easy fixes would improve this greatly. (1) Larger fonts for pinyin (and for the characters) (2) in Step 1 (introduces phrases) a pause between the Chinese and English, so one can repeat the Chinese mentally or aloud - essential for memorization.

Thanks for fixing the font sizes. They are still smaller than I want, but at least they are readable now.

IPHONE 3G S owners beware! This program is great, however, after downloading to my iPhone 3g S the program ONLY loads up then freezes. Hopefully Transparent fixes this compatability problem very soon. Itherwise you are wasting 8 or 10 bucks like I did.

This is a fantastic app with plenty to help one learn mandarin (and more lists to download once you complete the default lists). The interface is also top notch and visually impressive. However because it's not the least expensive mandarin flashcard app out there (although this app is definitely worth every penny) I do have some suggestions. Wish List- -Ability to save cards from any list to a separate 'word/phrase bank'. I always seem to have a word or two that tricks me up from each list, but there is no quick way to review them later without looking through all cards. -Pinying should be bigger... Too hard to see the tones. - This would be a 5+ star app if the user had the ability to click on an individual Chinese character on a card to be able to break down the meaning of a phrase... Pehaps this can be added to the 'card note' section. -ability to email an actual card to yourself as a reminder Overall this is an excellent app, but I do hope the dev team considers my suggestions to make this App even better!

Byki Mandarin Chinese program has a nice interface, good pronunciation and easy of use. However, the offering of words and phrases are very limited for $7.99. It is like a teaser program that prompts you to buy more words and phrases from the company. Look somewhere else. $7.99 is too much for too few. Not recommended at all.

I really like this program but I agree with the other reviewers. The pinyin font is too small and the audio should be optional. You can turn the volume the whole way down but then you cannot hear it when you want to hear it. It would be much better if they had a button to play audio on demand so you could listen to the word(s) only when you are not sure how to say it.
