i love byki destop, and i've used it for 2 years to help me acquire fluency. i have been waiting for this app for so long! (i'm super tired of fooling around with internet hacks and other flashcard programs only to have to redo all my lists all over again.) byki for the iphone is a clean, clear, and simple app that can be used to help learn and retain new vocabulary. it's _perfect_ for beginners who want guided vocabulary lists.

I've use Byki's desktop software to help learn vocabulary for three languages (German, Spanish, and Japanese) over the past three and a half years and was excited to see that Transparent Language had developed an iPhone/iPod app. Unfortunately the major short coming with this app is that it doesn't allow you to download your own lists. I am just short of fluent in German and am taking Japanese classes currently and have amassed a number of lists over the years. The ones that they give you in the app just don't cut it.

I have been using this flash card program for just over a week now and I can tell that it is really working. I learned the foods a couple of days ago and last night I was using the Spanish words for most of our dinner like I had known them for years. Great tool for getting started with Spanish!

Nice app, but two requests for future updates: (1) The startup screen does not show which lists have been completed: you have to actually open each list to find out its status. (2) I agree with the other reviewers who have requested the ability to add user-defined lists. Other than that, very nice supplement to BYKI desktop.

This app installs right away with no problems. I've been using the BYKI products for a while on my laptop and was holding off on any language apps for the iPhone. It was well worth the wait. If you want a fun easy way to quickly amass a very large vocabulary then you should buy BYKI "ahora". (That's "now" in Spanish and I just learned that word today in BYKI.)

This is a really fine and well-produced program, head and shoulders above most other apps of any genre available for the iPhone & iTouch. The specific positives described by other reviewers of this and the other language versions are right on, and I'll not repeat them. The audio, video, content and implementation are all outstanding.

If I were to rate this on the merits of the app itself, I'd give it more stars. But any program like this is only as good as the card sets that go with it. After spending 8 bucks for this, I really expected to see more cards than what was available for download. There should be less phrases and more common words. I've had it for over a month now and still no new cards to choose from. So in short, while this is a good start- until it has as many sets as the desktop version it doesn't really seem worth the price.

Regarding comments by tafree04, the translation of How are you by Como esta is correct as formal way of adressing somebody , Como estas is only for people we can adress by first name, this difference does not exist in English

I've used plenty of spanish software and byki is my favorite. When I heard that it was coming out on the iTunes app store, I was eager to try it out. I purchased it and I am very pleased. I hope future updates will give the option to connect with the lists on my computer.

This app is amazing it has a great formatt I just love the flashcards...it is pure amazement

Have used BYKI on my computer. Happy to see this app for iphone. It works as an app and as a handy vocabulary builder. On the choose a list screen it would be helpful if previously completed lists were highlighted by a check mark or other icon so I know at a glance which list I still need to work on. Thanks, I enjoy this app every day.

Hopefully, Byki will make more than one Spanish version available in the future. The app is quite good.

This is the best language learning software there is.

It's not going to get you you to run down to the Mexican meat market excited you know enough Spanish to actually have a conversation with someone. But it does teach you a lot so you will get more farmilliar with the language.

tatfree04, that form of "How are you" is correct. As in almost any language, there are lots of ways to ask someone how they're doing. The one Byki gives in the first list is probably the most commonly used. Language is not only -- or even mostly -- about rules. Except in a made-up language such as Esperanto, authentic speech twists and bends rules and patterns all the time for all sorts of reasons. When a doctor says, "How are we feeling today?" it may be a good or poor choice of form on her part, but it's not a grammatical error. Best of success with your Spanish learning and have fun playing with it, because it will absolutely play a few tricks on you along the way.

Started using app yesterday and already picking up words that stick with me.

This is only good if you need to know basic general Spanish if you are a potential tourist. The app does work well but they need to open the bkyi platform more and make lists that are associated with certain school textbooks for languages because such a feature would save so many students time they would gladly pay for this app.

A well done application, I will be traveling to Mexico for work in a few months and I needed to learn some basics fast ... This makes learning Spanish not only easy , but very conveniant from my iPhone as I always have it with me, and only need a few moments at a time to study with this application.

This will certainly help impress my Colombian girlfriend ;). Seriously, she is teaching me Spanish and this is an amazing supplement. Or is it she that the suplement? Regardless, this is great!

I bought this a few months ago and am very pleased with the program. Is it complete? No. Can you learn to speak Spanish with this program alone? No. But it is not $300 either. Use it for what it is designed to be, a learning tool, and I think you will be very pleased. I highly reccommend this product.

This was already the best app of its kind. Now it's better. One reviewer wanted lists tied to specific high school textbooks. Now you can do that by favoriting the lists for your textbook on byki's list central and then they show up for downloading in the iPhone app. That's very cool. Everyone wanted progress markers in the list selection screen. Now that's there. Someone says says sound doesn't work, but it always did and still does. Used to have 1,000 words/phrases but now maybe 10,000 or more because of access to all the byki list central lists, just like theIr desktop app. Very, very nice.

This is a great idea and seems good so far, but I noticed a wrong translation: how are you is translated cómo estás not cómo está. Está is the el, ella, & Ud form of estar, which is the he, she, & it. So on the first card when they (the program) tells you that how are you is cómo está, THEY ARE WRONG! That's as far as I got so how can I trust that some of the vocab they offer is right?? PLEASE FIX YOUR MISTAKES! Double check your work. If ppl have to pay $8 for this app then make it right. Thank you.

I have tried many Spanish apps and I got to give it to Byki hands down. I LOVE THIS APP. I've had no problem with the new OS, and am absolutely thrilled that I can link my word lists on byki.com to my iphone. This is a GREAT idea! You'll find many more features, out of the box features, that I've found very helpful in learning Spanish. Twitter search actually let's you see phrases you learn used by native speakers. I'm using it for travel and my roomate has actually used it to help him in class quite effectively. It's a powerful tool once you make the decision to learn!

This application does a great job of teaching you Spanish using a flash card system that everybody is familiar with. The List Central feature is great because it lets you learn lists that you've uploaded yourself. Also, I'm a big fan of the Twitter feature because it gives you somewhat of a real-world context, which is huge when it comes to learning a language. All in all, a quality application. Looking forward to future updates!

This is clearly the app I was looking for - slick interface, and more importantly - the retention of words and phrases!! I wish I had this in high school (ok well they didn't have iPhones then...). I recommend this app to the T. Please keep up the good work ladies and gentlemen. Would love to see more languages too! I use this for French and Russian as well.
