Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies update adds Ascension map
Calendar16 Mon, 19 Mar 2012 19:03:43 UTC +00:00
The updates finally seem to be coming in at a regular pace for Activision’s iOS zombie murder simulator, Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies after its initial release late last year. Last month, Activision released an update that added some new weapons as well as having the option of purchasing in-game currency through IAP. Now it looks like we’re finally getting some brand new content in Black Ops Zombies’ latest update. The latest update for Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies adds the fan favorite zombie map, Ascension, to the list of maps of the already played out Kino der Toten and the top-down shooter map, Dead Ops Arcade. Ascension has you fighting through a Soviet missile test facility that’s been overrun by zombies. Not only will you be fighting Soviet Zombies, but you’ll also be attacked by zombie monkeys. There’s also the addition of some new weapons such as the Read More
When Activision launched Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies [$6.99] late last year, we were decidedly underwhelmed with the sequel to the popular 2009 iOS survival shooter based on a mode from the console Call of Duty titles. There were definitely some improvements in Black Ops Zombies over the original, like better visuals and the awesome top-down Dead Ops Arcade mode, but the availability of just a single map and spotty connection issues brought down the entire experience. In February, an update addressed many of the connection issues and added a couple of new weapons, as well as adding an in-app purchase currency system that allowed people to buy their way to weapons and items more quickly. The new weapons added just a very tiny bit of variety to a title that was desperately needing some, but with just a single map to play on, Black Ops Zombies still suffered from Read More
One of iOS’ premier zombie murdering first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies received an update over the weekend which allows players to spend even more money on the game by incorporating in-app purchases into the game. The new update allows players to “enhance their experience” by way of in-game point packs that can be purchased via in-app purchases in order for players to receive a bunch of in-game points. The in-game points can then be used in order to purchase weapons, ammo, build barricades, and much more. Of course, players can also do all of these things by earning in-game points through the fun and sometimes tedious job of murdering zombies. The point pack system comes in six different tiers: The update also makes the fan-favorites Ray Gun and Monkey Bomb available as well as some other optimizations and fixes. If you feel you’re way too short on time to actually play Read More
Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies ($6.99) has just been updated, adding new weapons, in-app purchases and the ability to save and load game progress. Fans of the application will be pleased to hear that two new weapons – the Ray Gun and Monkey Bombs – are now at their disposal: the iconic handgun allows players to kill zombies in one shot (in earlier rounds), while Call of Duty fans will also be very pleased to see Monkey Bombs make an appearance in the iOS app. Players can also purchase points from within the app, with prices starting as low as $0.99 but reaching as high as $49.99. These in-app purchases allow fans to take a shortcut when it comes to gaining experience within the application. Furthermore, support for game saves and loads is also a great (and much-needed) feature. Read More
Daily iPhone App: Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies

EA has been on the App Store for a long time. Say what you want about subscription minigames and in-app purchases, but recent release of Tetris and Bejeweled demonstrate that EA has a good play. Activision, on the other hand, still doesn't quite get the App Store, and the result is games like Call of Duty Black Ops: Zombies. Not that this latest version of this game is bad. In fact, it's a pretty faithful recreation of the popular variant of the console military shooter. You shoot zombies, earn money to buy weapons and upgrade your map, and then shoot more zombies to earn more money. The graphics are fairly high level (though don't compare to games made specifically for iOS like Infinity Blade), the virtual controls work just fine, and the experience is more or less equivalent to the real thing. There's even a dual-stick shooter called Dead Ops Arcade Read More

This is my review of the new iPhone and iPad first person shooter from Activision called Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies. Treyarch has made a few mishaps as far as the Call of Duty series is concerned, but Nazi Zombies was certainly one of the better ideas they’ve ever contributed. After they developed the original Call of Duty: Zombies iPhone app, they introduced a sequel in the form of Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies, dutifully titled after the mini-game in the console version. For those who aren’t aware, Zombies is a separate game mode in both the World at War and Black Ops entries of the Call of Duty series. The purpose is to fight against an increasingly difficult horde of zombies for as many rounds as possible. There are windows where they can enter the building, and you must barricade them while keeping an eye on your back. Read More

When hit the iOS app store way back when we praised it for what was, at the time, a great adaptation of the console secondary game mode. Now, over two years later, the zombies have finally returned with Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies [$6.99], the first true sequel to iOS CoD Zombies (strange psuedo-sequel notwithstanding). While Black Ops Zombies does succeed in providing improved visuals and extra variety in the addition of the excellent Dead-Ops mode, a frustrating selection of controls, spotty multiplayer, and a very limited map selection on the onset may make some fans hesitant to purchase now. For the uninitiated, Black Ops Zombies is a first person shooter zombie survival game based off of the survival mode found on some console versions of Call of Duty. Zombies is map-based, with each map typically featuring numerous rooms and weapons that must be unlocked in order to provide the Read More

+ Universal App $6.99 Our Review By Dan Lee on December 2nd, 2011 Rating: :: BRAINS! The popular Call of Duty Zombies mode returns. Developer: Price: $6.99 Version Reviewed: 1.0.0 Device Reviewed On: iPad Graphics / Sound Rating: Game Controls Rating: Gameplay Rating: Replay Value Rating: Overall Rating: The Call of Duty franchise is an absolute behemoth, setting sales records year upon year. Those who have sunk time into the addictive multiplayer will no doubt have heard of the ‘Zombies’ mode, and it’s this that has been ported to iOS. Titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies, the idea behind this first person shooter is incredibly simple; escape the map before the protagonist is overrun by Nazi Zombies, while earning as many points as possible. The main Zombies mode, which can be played in single player, online multiplayer or over local Wi-Fi, utilizes on-screen virtual thumbsticks as part of its control Read More
‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops Zombies’ Comes to iOS
Calendar16 Thu, 01 Dec 2011 18:06:21 UTC +00:00
by Call of Duty’s popular zombie warfare mode has arrived as a separate iOS app. Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies is available now for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. Created by Activision Publishing, Inc., the $6.99 app is based on the popular console hit, but re-imagined for tablets and smartphones. In addition to providing achievements and point-multipliers, Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies encourages group game play. As such, up to four players can help smash the zombies together using a brand new feature called Voice Chat. This allows real-time communication with your fellow zombie-slayers. In addition, Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies includes a “Dead-Ops Arcade” mode. To unlock this special mode you must find four missing coins in the game’s menu. Once you do, you’ll unlock 50 levels with full Game Center leaderboard support and more. Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies is a must-have for any Call Read More
Activision Announces Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies
Calendar16 Thu, 01 Dec 2011 18:30:05 UTC +00:00
By Phillip Levin on December 1st, 2011 First details on the latest Call of Duty for iOS. Here’s a nice little surprise for Call of Duty fans: Activision just announced that it’s releasing Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies for iOS on December 1. Black Ops Zombies is the successor to Activision’s 2009 experiment on the iOS platform, Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies. The game features similar gameplay to its predecessor, based on the gameplay from the zombies mode in the console version of Call of Duty: Black Ops. The game features first-person gameplay, utilizing the retina display. There are also a number of improvements over the first Zombies foray on iOS. For one, Blacks Ops Zombies features Voice Chat using either the iPhone’s speakers or a Bluetooth headset. Additionally, this sequel adds four-player co-op via Wi-Fi or online matchmaking. Very cool. There is even an online ranking mode. Read More
Well this has been a crazy day. Infinity Blade 2 madness all over the place, a surprise Call of Duty announcement, Where's My Water went free with Facebook hijinx, and a ton of other stuff I never expected when I rolled out of bed this morning. I figured things would be slow, since Chair essentially claimed today as their day at the last keynote. But NO! So, this is less of a "coming tonight" and more of an "out now." I have a feeling things are only going to get crazier as we get close to the iTunes freeze in late December. The Bard's Tale, $5.99 - Forum Thread - Embarrassingly enough, the first time I heard about this comedic RPG was when new hit that it was coming to iOS. I was then shamelessly ridiculed for not having played it when it was first released on other platforms. That seems Read More
