College Introduces Course On iPhoneography
Calendar16 Mon, 06 Feb 2012 14:30:09 UTC +00:00
iPhone photography, dubbed ‘iPhoneography‘, seems to be the new hip thing among iPhone users. It’s much easier to carry your iPhone around to take photos than an expensive DSLR, and with popular apps like Camera+, Instagram, and Camera Bag, you can take equally stunning shots. Interestingly, a UK college wants to teach its students this new method… BBC reports that London’s Kensington and Chelsea College is launching a new course to teach students about iPhoneography. The college thinks many iPhone users don’t know how to use their iPhone to take photographs properly. The course, led by Richard Gray, requires each student to have an iPhone. Mr. Gray will teach students about the basics of photography like color, light, and composition, but will also teach them to use iOS apps to make collages and more. Along with this upcoming class at Kensington and Chelsea College, Mr. Gray hosts a workshop at local London Read More
Photo Apps Move to the Desktop
Calendar16 Fri, 03 Feb 2012 00:06:06 UTC +00:00
Photoshop may be the most powerful photo touch-up software, but it isn’t the simplest to use. And the simplest ones? They’re not so powerful. But photo-software makers are releasing products that fall between the two. Some are stand-alone versions of programs most often used to add features to Photoshop, called plug-ins. Others are upgraded versions of phone or tablet photo apps. Among the most recent releases are two higher-powered versions of well-known phone and tablet apps, CameraBag and Snapseed. CameraBag became best known as an app that adds visual effects to smartphone photos, like making a picture look as though it had been taken with a Holga toy camera. But a desktop version called CameraBag 2 for the Mac and PC does a lot more using similar controls. Instead of just adding effects, it lets you customize those effects and even simplifies color and exposure corrections. For beginners, the simple way Read More
Loved by some, hated by others, the art of applying a special filter to a picture taken with your iPhone has exploded in popularity over the past year or so.  In fact, it has become so popular, there’s talk of a similar feature becoming standard in iOS 5.  In the meantime, those wanting to add filters to their pictures should take a look at any one of the following apps, all of which have a catalog of filters to give even the dreariest of snaps a new lease of life. A great cross-platform photo-sharing social network.  Take a photo from within the app, or select one from your Camera Roll, then add a filter of your choice.  There are nine to choose from, each with the option of adding a border, and the chance to share your uploaded pic through Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and many others.  Free. One of the very Read More
Software To Make Photos Artfully Worse
Calendar16 Fri, 25 Feb 2011 23:13:37 UTC +00:00
If your photos don’t look as crummy as you’d like, there is new software that will wreck them for you. That’s not a bad thing if you are a devotee of the “lo-fi” photography movement, which considers the effects achieved by toy cameras, pinhole cameras and other crude photo devices to be artful. There are even contests dedicated to lo-fi work. The software, from a studio within the high-end photo software shop Alien Skin, is appropriately called “Lo-Fi” and promises to be “retro photography made easy.” Unlike most software filters, Lo-Fi, which works on Windows PCs and Macs, doesn’t require Photoshop or a similar product to work. Just start it up, and drag and drop photos to alter them. The gimmicky part is that you drag your photos to what looks like a camera. The camera’s buttons work the filters and features. It’s a bit hard to guess how to use it, Read More

An iPhone Lover’s Take On The iPhone 4
Calendar16 Sat, 03 Jul 2010 22:45:14 UTC +00:00
Regular readers will know that recently I’ve liked to state my bias in the title of my mobile device reviews: I love the iPhone. Some will call that being a fanboy, and that’s fine. But really, it’s just my opinion that the iPhone is hands down the best mobile device out there. If there were a better one, I would use it. But there’s not. So I use the iPhone. And that’s the angle I take towards these mobile device reviews. It’s simple: if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Well, one finally has: iPhone 4. Yeah, if you hate these types of reviews, you’re really going to hate this one. Before I dive into specifics, I’ll say right away that the iPhone 4 is easily the best mobile device I’ve ever used (notice I didn’t say phone, more on that later). But a lot of Read More

10 Great iPhone Camera Apps
Calendar16 Tue, 23 Mar 2010 15:34:28 UTC +00:00
Posted 03/23/2010 at 7:34am | by Jason Whong By now, you've probably launched the Camera app and taken a few pictures. Maybe you've even shared these pictures with other people. Though the built-in camera doesn't do everything your point-and-shoot does, and it will never have the optical abilities of a DSLR, it has a major advantage over dedicated cameras: the iPhone OS lets you install apps that take your pictures and video to another level. Here are 10 great apps that let you create, modify and share your images. You probably don't need all ten, as there's some feature overlap among these apps. Try a few of these to see if your creative mind enjoys using a variety of tools. CameraBagPublisher: Nevercenter Ltd. Co.Price: $1.99 Imagine that your iPhone is a bag full of different film cameras, and you're on your way to understanding Camerabag. This app lets you play with Read More

How To: Edit Your Photos Using Multiple Apps On The iPhone
Calendar16 Fri, 30 Oct 2009 12:00:44 UTC +00:00
There are so many photography apps in the App Store and yet, there is no one app that could replace them all. Why not use multiple apps for that one special photo you want to enhance and send off in an email or Facebook? There is one simple trick that is standard across most photography programs and that is Save and Load from your iPhones camera roll. This allows you to do things like crop your picture with PhotoGene and add a Helga effect to the same photo with CameraBag. Let’s take a look at how you might edit one photo with multiple apps! To edit this particular photo, we will use the following apps: ColorSplash, CameraBag, and PhotoGene Step 1: Find a photo in your Camera Roll you want to enhance or take a picture with the iPhones camera. Step 2: Load the image in PhotoGene and apply a few Read More

Despite all of them being counted as a single model, this fact is still impressive: The iPhone is now the number one camera in Flickr, the most popular image network. It's also the only cellphone in the top 5. I've to admit that I used to tote my DSLR or a point-n-shoot everywhere, and now I don't thanks to the iPhone. Whenever I need a snap, I just take out the iPhone and fire away. I miss the quality and flexibility of my real cameras. And I really wish the iPhone had a camera as fast and good as a nice point-n-shot. And I really really REALLY wish for instant camera access and a physical shutter button. But even with all those missing features, it's oh-so-much more convenient. And most of the time—I hate it sometimes—I just care about the moment. On top of that, once I started using the iPhone Read More

Great User Tips!!!
CampSteve 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Here are a few tips to get even more out of CameraBag. Start doubling up on the filters! Choose a filter and save the photo. Open it again from the iPhone's camera roll and choose a second filter.
Name changed to protect the innocent? Great simulations.
invisible_touch 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
The "Helga" tool is to mimic the artfully imperfect vignetting/saturation/variable focus that was common with the plastic lensed medium-format camera branded as Holga which was marketed as an extremely affordable camera to the Chinese in the 1980s. The "Lolo" tool is to mimic the Lomo LC-A a Russian camera known for its blown out colors and sometimes artful, sometimes atrocious blur from long exposures.
Slick!
2finsup 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This is great because I totally hate the iPhone camera, and I feel like I can actually share some pix washed through Camerabag! I would also be very interested to see a (slight) fisheye effect. And possibly an infrared. I like that there are no level adjustments etc. I just want to make an "insta-cool" image. I do enough photo editing on Lightroom for my business; the last thing I want to do is fully edit my iPhone photos. Great job! I am REALLY looking forward to seeing new effects roll in with future updates. :)
Perfect for the iPhone Camera
DotMacDayOne 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.0
This app takes any and all flaws of the iPhone camera and makes them assets. Any focus issues, lint or grease on the lens, waviness (jello effect) due to subjects in motion, low light graniness, all look good with one of the many camera effects simulators in CameraBag. Basically, the output looks as though you MEANT to take the rough shot that you did. I use CameraBag as my main camera app, and upload pictures on the go using the Facebook App. The ability to crop and resample images, in addition to the camera effects makes the pictures look really retro when posted. Especially if you just like to take pictures of things you see on a daily basis, CameraBag makes these shots interesting for others to look at. The developers of CameraBag have also been very good at providing updates for performance and even adding new cameras!
Great App!
newspin44 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I love this app. And I hate fake reviews! Know that this is not one. It seems a little chuggy not sure if thats cause I'm shooting at max image size or what but I shoot some concert images tonight and they were great! Just joined a group on flickr that shares these images. you should too. have fun!
Great App!!!
Deeznutzz 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Just bought it. I read reviews before I purchased it and I had mixed feelings on buying it. This is a real review. Buy it. I bought face melter and was looking for something like this it's great. If it's a little slow change the settings it works great.
Great for lomo lovers who don't mind digital.
morsp 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
If you like lomos and toy cameras then you have already probably downloaded this app. Personally I love this app and for $5 it was an easy choice. Great results for a pseudo digi lomo.
Worth it
Brian Einfeldt 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Lots of fun and easy to use. Gives pictures more emotion. Promised updates. 5 stars.
One touch fix ups
F15Crypt 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I use photogene too and I like them both. I really like the one touch fix up you can use to make your underexposed and "lacking" photos look nice. I look forward to more filters in an update. I dont want to think to hard about 2 megapixel photos and camera bag allows them to just look cool with little thought. Thanks
Love it
bau3r 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
I typically only get the free apps but this app was well worth the money, and it's on sale! Camerabag makes an ordinary plain photo look outstanding. I love the different filters and how they drastically make any photo look more artistic. I can't wait to see the updates and what new filters there will be!
I like it
Enoch Soames 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Slick interface, interesting and pleasing effects. No crashes or other problems. Fun app and one I'll likely use regularly.
I love it!
New Hasselhoff 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This is by far the quickest, easiest way I've found to get interesting photos out of my iPhone camera. I love the different effects, and I'm very pleasantly surprised at the results. Instant character.
Retro in your hand
Garyo 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
If your familar with these types of cameras you'll love it. Well done can't wait to see what gets added.
New-found Fun...
Mandrake916 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
I've rediscovered the camera on my phone due to this app. I've read reviews saying that using photoshop is better than this (of course it is, it's a powerful photo editing tool for a desktop/laptop), but to be honest I don't want to take the time to jump on my computer to play with effects, saturation, contrast and the like on a photo I snapped with my phone. If you want full featured software, go with photoshop, but if you want fun filters on the fly to add a little creativity to an otherwise lackluster phone camera, then I wholly recommend camerabag. Sidenote: For better photo framing (instead of the annoying gray bars over the frame in camerabag) use the default iPhone camera, then open this app to use the filters. 10/30/08: It was a good effort, but the fisheye filter is a little disappointing. If it were full framed with the rounded effect, then it might be better, but as it stands it makes the photo look like a ball bearing. Even with this gripe, I still recommend this app.
Great App
Onkel Art 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
This ius a great application! Love it and use it all the time!
I love this thing!!
mowjilladelamaggie 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.0
You can take easy, nice, fun, camera shots with this! Over the past couple weeks I have bought probobly over 100 apps. But I must say this is my most defienatly favorite one! I'm in a photojournalisim class this semester and this app is really helping me [:
My favorite iPhone app
kldonegan 4.0 stars Version: 1.2.0
CameraBag takes the iPhone camera to a whole new level. I use it on every photo I take, and it consistently makes them better. A steal at $2.99!
Great App and Keeps Getting Better
nam11 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
This app does exactly what it says. I have not been prone to more than a couple of crashes and I use this all the time. Developers also have been churning out updates based on feedback. I love this app.
Freakin Great
Mosscow 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
I love this little app - it gets better with every release - please please PLEASE include the ability to email in future release!! I Flickr everything from camera bag, but I have to switch applications to make this possible... It's almost perfect, we just need that option :)
One of my favorite apps!
Jaintly 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Just the 1974 filter alone is fantastic. I've always loved those old photos that were so rich and warm. This app recreates them perfectly. They keep adding new filters and I can't wait for the next round of them.
Update
2222987654321 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.0
When I first got this app I was dissapointed because of the poor picture quality and little selection of effects... But after the update the picture quality is great and the effects come down in a drop down bar with new effects added. THANK YOU!!!
what i have been looking for .
