--Michael Rose, tuaw.com

Cellar 2.0 is iPhone Wine Management Aged Well
Calendar16 Tue, 15 Dec 2009 17:14:42 UTC +00:00
By Rene Ritchie, Tuesday, Dec 15, 2009 | Cellar [$2.99 - iTunes link] is a gorgeous app that lets you manage your wine collection on your iPhone or iPod touch, and with version 2.0 just now hitting the App Store, it’s pairing some interesting new features: Truth be told, I’m more UI and function geek than wine aficionado, but the team behind Cellar continues to nail both niche and presentation to a degree I want to go buy more vino just to store it on my iPhone. TiPb was able to taste-test Cellar 2.0 for a few days already and it works as good as it looks. Bottles sent to us by email arrived in our cellar perfectly; whole backups were restored flawlessly, and yes we felt sad for those empties we kicked over to the trashy curb. Cellar comes by way of the same finer-things-in-life folks who created Barista for Read More

Reviews

Looks great, but not useful for actual wine management..
liuping 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
It looks great, but it is missing basic features like a “drink one” button to decrement the bottle count, sort by variety/price/rating, organize the bottle (they are shown in input order only!), bottle location (in the real cellar), import from a list, and back up (it will take days to get everything in, and a good phone crash could wipe it out).
Beautifully Designed + Useful
Outtacontext 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Being able to create your own bottle really makes the wine you input into this app really your own. It only took me a couple initial tries to get the label photo the right size to fit properly. Not a problem at all. What I'd like to see is a way to export my collection information to a tab-delimited or related file. That way my info would be useful outside my iPhone. Congrats on a wonderful app!
Up & running in no time
Chandara 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great little app. Only beef I have is wanting more bottle top colors! I was able to catalogue our collection & plan on using this app on an upcoming winery tour.
Not much to say....
hotjamzhere 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Except that this is one of the best apps I've seen in the apple store so far! Simple, effective, fun and BEAUTIFUL. These guys and gals really love what they do and or shows in this app. Hopefully we'll see a beer cellaring app soon!!!!! Happy cellaring and prost!
Wow!!
David Gulbrandsen 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
One word: amazing!! 0,99$ is very low!!!
Very Cool!!!!
Mikeyland 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Read about this app coming out about a month ago and thought it would be pretty neat. Now a day after buying it I would say it is one of the coolest apps I have. Even if you aren't a wine enthusiast this app is just plain fun. Within 5 minutes I had a miniature replica of my wine bottle in my wine cellar and when I say replica I mean identical. Very cool guys and I'm following you on Twitter and looking forward to even cooler features!!!!
A brilliant idea finally put into a 'real' cellar app
gonzofreddy 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Launching for under a buck? Awesome.
I like this app.
maxpeck 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a really cool, but putting an image on the bottle from the camera never quite lines up to give the full label.
Amazing! Simple, intuitive and practical. Just what I needed!
ice.pod 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Sporting a very practical and easy to use interface, this app is a great wine enthusiast's companion.
An app for techies, not wine drinkers
Vinolover 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
It's a gorgeous app. The price is right. What's wrong? It just doesn't work in the real world. After taking the time to load in several bottles, I decided I was in the mood for a good Pinot Noir. Could I search my cellar for pinots? No. Could I search for anything? No. I was forced to click on every bottle to look for the right wine. Sorry. The design is beautiful, but I'm not going to bother loading in the remainder of my wine. Borderline useless.
This is a very fun app!
KenBotwinick 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I enjoy this quite a bit. It's not a full blown app for people with large collections. But it's good enough for me. I hope that it will continue to add functionality. Some things it could use: Reordering bottle positions. Being able to have taller labels (not all labels are square). Being able to email a bottle when you want someone else to pick it up at the store. (This should cut down on them getting the wrong thing.) It would be neat if the bottles had "liquid" in them and you could tap them to make the liquid go down. You know, just in case you don't always finish a whole bottle in one sitting... And it would be neat if the liquid in the bottles swished around based on the accelerometer. Anyways, I think it's a lot of fun to use and there are so many more ways it could grow to be even more fun, and more functional. Cheers!
Simple Elegant Nice way to know at any given moment what is in your cellar !!!
Mohpu 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
My first review, I liked the application so much (Out of the 70 odd that I must have downloaded) that I am making a point to review it.
If you're a wine lover...
vaughn_l 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
you must get this app! It's on the first time of my iPhone and is a MUST HAVE for any wine lover. No matter your collection, this app is exactly what you need. The app itself is as beautiful as the icon and I just can't recommend this app to my friends enough.
Awesome!
iphone_trekker 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app just about has it all: • The user interface is lickable • It's practical and useful (love using my 'garage' for empty bottles) • It's really quick • The developer listens to users (just look at their twitter feed). One obvious thing missing is that the bottles aren't sortable (for larger collections), but they say they're working on that for an update. PS outtacontext, I always get consistent results for labels now but it took me about fifteen minutes trial and error.
Excellent App with Great Design
neumanngroup 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Excellent app, very well designed and easy and fun to use. I am looking forward to more updates as the developers have been very good about answering requests and keep me informed via Twitter. This app has tons of potential! Rating 4 out of 5 due to some need for some improvements to the UI and some data analysis. I am willing to bet that new updates will garner a 5 star rating soon enough.
well...
l33t.haX_ftw* 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
outstanding app. great UI; easy-to-use... all-around spectacular. / the only thing it needs is (mainly for iPod touch users, since they don't have a camera... for now. ;) is maybe: allow us to enter the information about the wine (e.g., winery, 'type'/'kind' of wine [merlot, Zinfandel, etc.], region/province, date, etc.) and then wirelessly retrieving the photo/picture of the wine label from the Internet... this easily beats going back countless times to just look up a wine label... thanks, developers! :D
Need Better Label Maker
Outtacontext 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
iphone_treker: So, do tell. What did you do to get consistent labels?
Finally the app I've been waiting for!
blueshmoo 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Be convinced by the reviews! It is awesome! You can make the bottle look like the real one, take pictures of the label, keep track of the vintage, grape, price, all the notes you want... even garage the bottles you've drunk, so you know what's actually in your cellar and what you have to stock up on the next time you're at the wineshop. It's a five star app already; I can't wait to see what features they add in the next release :)
Needs some tweaks
NYCBhoy 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Looks great but impossible to get labels to look good esp if they are not a standard shape. Need some darker colored bottles for red wines.
Gorgeous UI, BUT...
sffoodie11 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
Having a beautiful UI only gets you so far, and in his case, it's only 2 stars. Th first main complaint is that this all does not have a wine database to search from Whig leaves you entering all of your cellar info by hand. For 200 bottles+ that's just not realistic. Also, it's about impossible to get bottle labels to look right. It doesn't support locations so finding a bottle in a large cellar is impossible.
An awesome app that's getting even better
iphone_trekker 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.5
This is a nice little update, especially giving the option of photos app or camera for labels.
This app miss a import export feature
jglsxm 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.5
This app has a nice design, but it miss an import/export feature.
Pretty but useless
electricamp 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.5
This was a big disappointment. No way of organizing/sorting and no way to ID bottles without creating a label with iPhone or iPhoto. No way of creating a shopping list of new wines you want to try. It is pretty and fun looking, but essentially useless.
Without someway of saving data this app is useless
AggieScott 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.5
The next time you upgrade something and you're phone crashes, poof, there goes all your cellar data. If you have to restore, poof, there goes your data. This app is pointless without someway of saving data off of the phone.
Love it ..... But .....
Children of the Keg 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.5
What an awesome ap! Great graphics and sound. Please send an update that allows us to categorize our wines how we want in the cellar. Ex: by year, variety, region, winery. This would be the icing on the cake. I'll bust out five stars if that happens.
The App Store needs more apps like this!!
iphone_trekker 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.5
First off, this app is awesome. It's got a gorgeous user interface but most importantly its so useful.
