There are so many tip calculators for the iPhone, but I was unimpressed with most of them. Most have an interface that is a bit too complex - after all, all one is doing is calculating 15 or 20 % and occasionally dividing between a few people. This is not hard math - so to take the trouble to take out your iPhone, unlock it, launch an app, and then enter the data is not clearly an advantage unless it is quick. So the key is having a very quick way to enter the data and getting results without multiple screens and pop-up dials, calculators, etc.. With this quick and simple interface, it may actually be worth using.

I've always understood that when calculating a tip, the tip amount should be based on the the subtotal (the amount after removing tax). Of the iPhone tip apps that I've examined, this is the only own that does this.

I was taught that one does not include the sales tax when calculating a tip. This is the only one I have found so far that allows one to exclude the tax from the calculation. I just wish that their preview would mention this feature. I have looked at all of the tip calculators and none touts this feature. I only found this one by reading the reviews.

Before update version was kinda whatever~ BUT the current update version is really well designed that is very helpful and practical! Strongly recommanded!

The little slider bar is a bit difficult to move (maybe I don't have the right touch), but a handy app, nice clean design. No more going to the calculator or trying to work out tips and splits in your head. A keeper.

Very easy to use before, now 3.0 makes this the standard for tip calcs! Thanks to the developer for all your work and for making this free!

Probably the best tip calculator out there, even among the ones you pay for. I really like the new interface upgrade, and works great with the developer's other app, Pocket Money, which is also a really useful program for keeping track of daily expenses; simple yet powerful.

Crashes frequently, can cause entire phone to restart. Hard to access configuration. Have to move slider every time to get tip amount.

It's great to see free stuff out there but you really get what you pay for. The text is too small to easily see when copying to a receipt and the controls just don't feel right. There's another calculator on here that is similar but has these issues addressed and is very quick and easy to use and see

This app is simple and generally would serve its purpose if it weren't for the fact that it often takes several taps or drags to make anything happen on the screen.

If you love to eat out, and you're bad at mental math in public, you will die without this app!

Simple and to the point!

I tried to use this at a restaurant the other day, with no success. Buggy: it doesn't seem to recognize your default tax and tip percentages, and you can't type them directly in, you have to slide little sliders. Very unwieldy navigation for getting information quickly. I also wanted to calculate tips for a check not evenly split (my sister only ordered a shake while I ordered a meal), but that would mean I would have to do separate calculations for each of us (four at the table). Sorry, next!

I have been using this since it first came out and it has worked well. I just got the update and the new interface has been really well done. I like it this way much better - thanks for the update!

Don't update! I made the mistake and I updated to the new version. I lost the functionality to see the dollar amount after choosing the tip percentage. Why would you remove this feature? I now have to use my calculator to calculate my tip so I can know how much to leave. Therefore once I do that in my calculator all I have to do is divide by how many people there are and I get my answer while using my calculator. So why would I use this app now? Please bring back the old features! I used this app all the time. Otherwise this app is useless.

Great appliciation that all should have. Just pull out your iphone or ipod touch and find what you should tip. Simple, effective, and free!

This is what I have been looking for. I hate the ones online you have to wait till it loads.. by that time I've thrown money down and left. This is quick! Love it!

I will no longer get the stinkeye (or worse) from waitresses because I left a 2% tip instead of a 20% tip. Thank you!

Not sure what the problem is, but the app would not start. It would attempt to start and then shut down.

The tax percentage appears to be calculated incorrectly.

To say that this application takes its inspiration from Carlos Perez's "Tip" application, would be putting things quite euphemistically. I'm not usually a person that gets into the fray of one applications design over another, but in this case, it is quite galling to think that a developer would redesign his application to look (and to attempt to function) just like another developer's app.

Everytime I go out to eat with my parents, they always fight bout how much they are gonna leave for the tip but thanks to this app this will no longer happen.

And does it pretty well too.

With the dozens of tip calculators out there that were all missing pieces, you finally put it all together. Well done. BUT, what I'd like to see is when the tip is changed from exact to something else, that the recalculated tip percentage is displayed, e.g. I may want to round up the tip but I won't if it means the tip percentage goes to 30%. So, when any changes are made from exact calculations, spin the tip percentage wheel to the new tip percentage (and rounded whole numbers are good enough). I would like to see the fraud protection feature too but I can live without that.
