Developer and all-around great guy David Frampton from Majic Jungle Software, creator of the early App Store breakout success [$2.99 / Free ] and its greatly improved sequel [ $2.99 ], has revealed to us his next upcoming iOS project called The Blockheads. As you can see from the embedded screens, The Blockheads looks heavily inspired by the sandbox game Minecraft, and David isn’t shy about stating as much. However, he notes that during the development process he tried to make sure that The Blockheads let’s you do the sort of things that make Minecraft fun but tried to do them in a different way. For example, there is a crafting component to the game, but David explains the different approach he is taking to that in The Blockheads: Instead of needing to know recipes and being able to craft everything in one location, there are many different kinds of workbenches, Read More
Canabalt, $2.99 - After raising more than $30,000 for the Child's Play Charity as part of the Indie iPhone Game Sale over the holidays, developer Semi Secret decided to celebrate by making their game Canabalt open source for people to tinker around with or use to create their own game (with limitations, of course). The Canabalt code that was released as open source was an even more up to date version of the game than what was currently in the App Store. Now this improved version has become available as an update for iOS owners of the game. The update features Retina Display graphics and 60fps on iPad and 4th generation devices, Game Center integration for high scores, and other performance optimizations and fixes. Significantly, this update appears to have finally fixed the long standing problem of stuttering and choppiness on 3rd generation devices. Canabalt running at a rock solid 60fps Read More
[iOS-Game] Chopper 2

Majic Jungle Read More

'Chopper 2' — A Game That's More than Universal

David Frampton and his Majic Jungle Software first crossed our radar when his aerial shoot and rescue title Chopper [App Store] debuted two years ago as one of the more notable App Store launch titles. Chopper was very well received from the start and quickly became one of the true App Store success stories, seeing 500 downloads a day (at $7.99), early on. Since then, the game has been downloaded more than 350,000 times. A little over half a year after Chopper's debut, inspired by the game's success, Frampton began work on the sequel, Chopper 2. And quite a bit of work it turned out to be. Originally expected to be completed in just six months for an August '09 release, Chopper 2 has taken a hefty 16 months to complete. But, at long last, it has landed in the App Store [link]. So just what's taken so long to bring Read More

Meanwhile, head on over here to peep more Chopper 2 development screenshots to get you more excited. Needless to say, we’ll keep you posted on this title. An Exclusive 'Chopper 2' Preview for iPhone…and iPad

One of the first highly successful games in the App Store was Majic Jungle's Chopper [App Store], a side-scrolling aerial shooter that's an adaptation of his original Mac release. The game has seen well over one million downloads since its release and is a pretty fun time on your iPod or iPod touch. We spent some highly enjoyable face time with Dave Frampton, the man behind Majic Jungle, at MWSF '09 and WWDC '09. As such, I've been following him on Twitter and have long been seeing the occasional tweet about the progress of his upcoming sequel, Chopper 2. Yesterday I pinged Dave and demanded a solid update on this title that we've been quite anxious to see. Happily, with minimal threats, he agreed to give us the latest details and an exclusive set of screenshots of the in-progress title, as well. Chopper 2 is a complete re-write, with full 3D Read More
When it started out, the iPhone did not have very many apps. It started with things like Chopper, Trism and a few others that were lucky enough to get accepted into the iPhone program early on. As time went on though, the number of apps grew and with this, we got more flashlights and fart apps. Thankfully though, the iPhone gaming scene recovered with some GREAT “hardcore” gaming titles. Let’s discuss a few of them! Nearly everyone has played “Nazi Zombies” in Call of Duty: World at War for the Xbox 360 or the PS3, but finally, this beloved minigame was finally made available to the iPhone with decent controls and amazing graphics considering it was a mobile device. With the release of this game, many started to wonder if more of the Call of Duty franchise would be ported over to the iPhone, thus opening the was for full length Read More

Black Friday 2009 App Store Sale Extravaganza
Calendar16 Fri, 27 Nov 2009 05:45:08 UTC +00:00
I had planned on settling in tonight, sifting through the tons of emails we've received from developers who are planning to or have put their games on sale, and forming some kind of massive list... Only to discover that TouchArcade forum superstar and all around cool dude Djflippy had completely one-upped me, not only posting a thread with a remarkably comprehensive list, but also alphabetizing said list. All of these games are either on sale currently or either have prices that are currently being modified or will be changed shortly. If something you're looking for isn't the price that we've published, just check back later: There are some serious bargains to be had in that list, and most of these sales are only going to last through the day with some of them extending over the weekend. It's probably not a good idea to wait on downloading any of these games Read More

David Frampton of Majic Jungle Software has released to us the first gameplay video from his upcoming game Chopper 2. Chopper was one of the original launch titles for the App Store and has been a huge success over the past year. The original Chopper [$2.99 / Free] has sold over 300,000 copies and continues to do well. Chopper 2 adopts a new 3D look while keeping the basic 2D gameplay. Frampton's goals for the sequel included "realistic and beautiful graphics" alongside approachable gameplay. Chopper 2 is still in development and will expand on the basic gameplay of the original with many different enemies and mission types, including defending towers from attacking enemies and destroying moving caravans of enemy troops. Here's an early look at the new 3D effects: Chopper 2 is expected to be available by the end of the year. Classical Find it game, one hundred to play without Read More

Best Iphone Game For Sure
kbov 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
since the release of the app store, iv bought most of the games and tried them on my iphone. I must say this is the best, the graphics are phantastic, its challanging but not to the point of impossible and just extremely fun. way better than monkeyball. this is a must get for anyone whos a fan of iphone games. its worth every penny.
Good idea, fun; needs more depth and features
:p atrick 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app needs more. Although it looks great and is satisfying to kill enemies, it needs a couple of additions: 1. Ammo pickups 2. Another button for missiles. You can stick it near the bombs button, won't take up too much of the screen. 3. More detail in the buidlings, such as rooftops for houses, balconies with rails, better textures, rocks 4. Allow the copter to go more than just side to side. Add levels where you descend into a canyon, or scale a sky scraper 5. Add better sound effects. 6. For the bomb, animate the explosion better 7. For the guns, animate when the bullets hit different materials better, such as a tank or a building 8. Animate death in more detail. Don't make them just fall down in one frame, try making them fly when they get hit by a bomb, or making them get knocked back when shot by the machine guns 9. Make the tanks and soldiers move 10. Include enemy helicopters 11. Add a storyline, with antagonists other than "the enemy" 12. Implement art. A vivid, cartoony art style with thick borders would fit this app better. This will greatly improve your app. I hope you're listening, because I'm confident that these ideas will boost you sales like crazy. Regardless, it's a fun game.
EASILY the best iPhone/ iPod touch game
U-R-4-giv-N 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game is so fun and addicting to play. Forget stupid monkeys rolling around in balls, this game is where it's at. I just got the game yesterday, and I have already beat it twice. AMAZING!!!!
Best game on the store
Kevin Ballard 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game is phenomenal. Great graphics, smooth animation, intuitive controls, and classic gameplay. A must-have.
Desktop Version - Time Limit + Unlimited Amo= Perfect
iamsumguyXDXD 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Trust me, you will NOT regret buying this, it is cheaper than the desktop version and at least 2 times better. There is NO time limit and UNLIMITED amo. It is probably my favorite game for iPhone/Ipod Touch.
Needs Updates
Packerfan735 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Awesome game. Maybe a "create your chopper" feature or a selection of different helicopters. Would like to have a free mode where you can select the level you would like to play. Overall awesome game.
Extremely fun w/lots of replay value
Tivums 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
For $7.99, this game is a great buy. It's a lot more fun than many of the $9.99 games out there. The tilt controls work very very nicely, and with three difficulties, and many many levels, it'll last for a long time. Buy it and you won't regret it.
Chopper
mogosh 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Sweet, after only a few minutes I can see this is a winner. You can get this for OSX but this app is cheaper and touch control is superb. Tilting the iPod controls your speed, altitude, and direction as you attempt to pick up hostages and return them safely to base. Controls for bombs and machine guns are nicely positioned at the top corners of the screen for effectively dispatching of terrorist scum. Beautiful and varied flying conditions like rain, night, snow and who knows what else. Mission based objectives aren't too long and give you a sense of accomplishment (or failure). Game seems to pause where I left off. Great fun.
The BEST game on the iPhone right now!
opossumsareawesome 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This is truly an amazingly awesome game. I accidently bought it, but I am very glad I did. The graphics are nice, and combined with the game-play, this is one of the best games you'll ever play on the iPhone or iPod Touch. I really hope Majic Jungle Software continues to make games like this; A tank game would be awesome. ^_^
Best App
iPod touch1996 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
this us the best app on App Store. The controls are awesome and it's definetly worth using 8 bucks
Excellent use of accelerometer. Great graphics and gameplay.
kozefx 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Definitely worth the 7.99. I've bought other games and this is one of the best "action/arcade" style games. And it kept my friend's 10-year-old from fidgeting and whining throughout dinner (understandably, our dinner conversation would be boring to any child).
Great Game at a Great Price!
djadamjay 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
My review won't be much different than all the others, i love this game. Accelerometer controls make it more fun than the version i have on my Mac. i heard about this before it came out at TouchArcade.com and the next day here it was on the App Store. This is definitely one of the few must-have iPhone games at the moment. Its certainly in my Top 5.
chopper is the best
exitusone 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is the best game of this type for the iphone ever. It is perfect for the iphone. The grahics are great for this small of a format. This game makes me wish my iphone screen was way bigger. This is the only game I have bought and I show and tell everyone about it. I was waiting at the Apple Store and playing this game and looked up and had a crowd behind me watching this game. Now that I have played choppers for a week, I woiuld pay $50 for it. You got to have it. keyone
AWESOME

Great game.
sur4dye 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Simple, easy to play and even a little challenging at times. Good graphics. Worth the download...
Fun! But...
Will Easton 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great game, lil pricy but worth every penny. Only complaint isnthe location of the controls. Having them up top makes it a bit uncomfortable and your thumbs end up covering part of the screen, but an easy fix (hint for the update! Maybe an option?)...
PURE ENTERTAINMENT!!!
NikeyBoy101 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
I cannot put this down. It's simply amazing!
AWESOME
srwdc 5.0 stars Version: 1.0

One of my favorite games on the iPhone!
rojothebear 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
The control is sooo smooth. And the gameplay is fun and engaging. I wish all games could be this flawless.
Best Game to date!
coldplayalpay 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game is so much fun and addicting! The only thing I noticed sometimes, the chopper gets stuck in the top middle of the screen.
Fun!
KKENN 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I love this fun quick games you can play spur of the moment. This game is dead simple but very fun and great use of the accelorometer. Would like to see auto save. Oh and game pauses and resumes automatically if interupted and app closes, nice touch!
Best iPod Game Yet
Foilfreak93 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is the best game I've ever played on my iPod so far. It was worth paying the $8. The only flaw I found was that the pause button is next to the bomb button. I sometimes end up blowing myself up when trying to pause the game. Other than that the controles are great. I love playing this game.
Great game
xXh4tchXx 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This game is addicting
Very Nice!
JSWSN 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
A very nice well made game thank you! I wish the sound for the chopper crash was the sund of an explosion instead.
