By Leanna Lofte, Saturday, Jun 11, 2011 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! I have gone for another game this week that you can play over the internet with other iPad users. This week’s pick is Pool Bar – Online Hustle. Pool Bar is an excellent pick up and play game for Pool lovers. The graphics and physics of the game are perfect. The balls move as you would expect and the sounds are really authentic too. With different skill levels and three different game modes, this one Read More
What Apps Did Gorillaz Use for Their iPad-Created Album?

href="http://digg.com/submit?url=http%3A//www.ismashphone.com/2010/12/latest-ipad-created-gorillaz-album-available-for-download-today-what-apps-did-they-use.html"> A while back, we all heard that animated supergroup Gorillaz (or their real-life counterparts) were working on a new album. Interestingly, the album was being created almost entirely on an iPad while the band was on tour. Well, that album is now available for listening at the band’s official website. While creating music on an iPad is nothing entirely new (as shown by these fine musicians) the fact that such a high-profile band chose to go that route is pretty cool. Over a period of 32 days on the road, the band was able to write and record an album entirely on the iPad. They used a few extra instruments, of course, but for the most part, this 15-track album was made on Apple’s tablet computer with a handful of applications from the App Store. Let’s take a look at what applications the band used for the album and figure Read More
Bereits im November gab Damon Albarn, musikalischer Kopf der Rockband Blur, gegenüber NME zu Protokoll: “I’ve made it on an iPad – I hope I’ll be making the first record on an iPad,” he said. “I fell in love with my iPad as soon as I got it, so I’ve made a completely different kind of record.” Als Applikationen, im Wert von 82.32 Euro, kamen dabei zum Einsatz: Speak It! (1.59 €; universal; App Store-Link) / SoundyThingie (2.39 €; App Store-Link) / Mugician (kostenlos; App Store-Link) / (Solo) Synth (0.79 €; App Store-Link) / Synth (0.79 €; App Store-Link) / Funk Box (2.39 €; universal; App Store-Link) / Gliss (0.79 €; iPhone-App; App Store-Link) / AmpliTube (15.99 €; App Store-Link) / Xenon (3.99 €; Read More

17 Best iPhone Apps for Musicians
Calendar16 Mon, 27 Jul 2009 18:35:20 UTC +00:00
Nothing can replace the true feel of an instrument, but sometimes we find ourselves in a place where there aren’t any guitars, drums, synthesizers, or even a piano to play. There are many best iPhone apps available which could be great for a musician that’s on-the-go.  They can be used to compose, tune, play, and even keep your calendar so you’ll never be late to a gig or miss an audition.  So which ones are better than the rest? Not all of these iPhone music apps are free, so are you willing to spend up to $20?  Even the ones for 99 cents can add up when you keep downloading and not thinking of how many you’ve already bought. We’ve found some best iPhone apps that would work well for those with a love for playing music. 1. PocketGuitar by Shinya Kasatani The PocketGuitar app gives you the option to hear sounds Read More

Great design and idea
Jazzyflute88 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
This application has a great design, beautiful interface, and a wonderful idea behind it. I like that i has a tuner, then a fine tuner. However, I play the flute, and this application can only tune my low register. for anyone who knows anything about flute, you would know that about 40% of my playing is actually done there, maybe less. Therefor, it is limited. Furthermore, it is completely useless when attempting to tune a piccolo. Once the pitch gets high enough, the tuner just starts jumping all over the place, and never hitting what the pitch actually is.
Best Tuner in the app store
Shazamer 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
with the pitchpipe update its even better this is the best tuner hands down and is 4 dollar and the others are 10, I tested it on my keyboard which has perfect tuning and it was dead accurate- I love this
Great app & awesome updates!
musicmanatlanta 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I'm a professional musician (guitar, piano, voice & trombone) and I have loved this app since the first version. I never understood the bad reviews, the wheel doesn't spin wildly if you sustain your pitch. It only spins if there is no pitch, which is normal. It tunes my acoustic guitar wonderfully and like I said, version 1.0 was great. BUT the latest update has blown me away! Literally, there are now over a dozen choices of temperament! It's amazing. Even my $80 Boss tuner doesn't have that feature!!! This is a pro app in my opinion, and I use it before every gig.
Good except for 1 note on my bass.
IAmStacy 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a great tuner except for one thing. I have a six string fretless bass, and this tuner will even tune my low "B". That's something that only pretty expensive tuners will accomplish. However, it often recognizes my "A" as an "E". That's something that inexpensive tuners never do. I'll say this, it's great to be able to tune one string with my iPhone and then the rest by ear quickly. Simple app - and that's good. (Please fix that one problem...) Thanks!
Excellent Application for Musicians and Music Educators
Doctor of Music 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.1
I am a high school choir director, licensed to teach vocal, instrumental (band, orchestra), and general music. I am an accomplished tenor and tuba player, and I hold a master's degree (M.A.) and doctorate (Ph.D.) in music education. I have purchased and tried two tuners from the App Store. I only chose those two applications because they were intended to tune all instruments, not just a specific instrument (e.g. guitar). The first version of this application was excellent. The tuner was less "twitchy" than the competition, and it looked visually better. As a choral director, the tone generator had potential as a pitch pipe (and the current pitch pipe options on the App Store are flawed). I took the time to e-mail comments to the creator of this application, and the creator took the time to respond to my feedback, and in the most current version, add the very features I was looking for. The only thing this application currently lacks as a complete tool for music education is the inclusion of a metronome. Otherwise, the tuner works very well, the ability to turn the pitch generator on and off makes that feature applicable for choral music education, and the author also included the ability to switch between tuning systems and display options (sharps, flats, and others), as well as systems used in other countries, transpositions, waveform, and more. In summary, this is a complete application, the author continues to make the product better and listens to suggestions, and this program is a good value, and it should never have to lower its price (check out the price of comparable stand-alone tuners). I would also like to add that I am not employed by the company that produces this application, nor do I know the author of the software. I am a music educator who uses this product, and I recommend it to you.
Works like it should
catcameback 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app is very much like one of those small electronic tuners (e.g., the Korg); I had no trouble using it.
Great
One who is in tune now 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
This is a great tuner, and works really well for tuning the french horn, which i play. It picks up the sound great even in a noisy band room, which is very useful. It is also a great price for a tuner and a pitch pipe in one app. One thing I would like to see is a play/pause button for the pitch pipe. When you select the pitch pipe there is no way of turning the speaker volume down or changing the pitch. So if there was a play button that would be great. Also, having the option to adjust the range of the finer tuner would be nice because it's a little sensitive for some purposes. But this isn't a big deal at all. Worth the price if you could use a tuner but just don't want to carry a dedicated one around. Overall, with the 1.1 update it deserves a 4.5 star rating.
Very nice
NDBMusic 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Great updates! No complaints here.
Works, but could be better...
NicknameNotTakenYet 3.0 stars Version: 1.2
I'm using this to tune a violin. It works OK for A and D, but G seems a bit low for it to lock on. My main problem is E. The tuner has no minimum sound threshold, and seems to settle on E when there is no sound except soft background noise. Since the violin sound decays rather quickly I don't know when the tuner is actually hearing the E rather than just showing its default background noise position.
This is my go to tuner on my iPhone
Photobydesign 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I own others but this is the one I use the most. It's fast, simple, accurate and easy to use in stage type environments. Worth every dime!
Excellent App
Rexeisen 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Excellent app. I use it to tune while playing F Horn in orchestra and concert bands and it does a great job.
Beautifully designed but unusable for guitar
Brent Wood 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I bought this based on the design but unfortunately it's useless for tuning a guitar...the reading jumps all over the place, even in a completely quiet room.
Works as advertised
quesadilla5 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
This nifty little application turns your iPhone into a guitar tuner.... or an anything tuner for that matter.... worth every penny!
Cleartune
BzzzBee 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app works just as described.
It works great!
Shamgar 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
Definitely works well, a good buy
My version only has one screen - not three as shown in the App Store
Sage 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
How do I get the other screens? All I have is the tone wheel (screen shot 1). I'm tapping all over the place, but can't get anything other than the wheel.
Stop thinking about it and buy it!!!!!
Nicholi Borchenknoff 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.1
Hi Everybody! (hi Dr.Nick, simpsons humor) This is the first iPhone app I have actually paid for, and I have got to tell ya, it is worth hundreds of dollars! I was the top saleman in the nation for Musicians Friend a few years back and I have sold strobe tuners that cost over $5,000 and I must say this app tunes almost as well in my opinion. I just tuned my classical guitar and was very impressed! Then I tuned my 12 string in about a minute and WOW! I am excited to see how well it works on my daughters harp. Buy this app! I now have a High quality tuner with me everywhere I go, Thank you to the designers and keep up the great work!
Superior Tuner
airheadRYE 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.1
I found myself at a rehearsal in need of a tuner, and I had neglected to bring my orchestral tuner that had set me back $130. A quick trip to the app store found me downloading Cleartune, expecting a merely acceptable temporary solution to my current predicament. I was completely blown away at the accuracy and sensitivity, however - this is superior to my orchestral tuner! Wonderfully smooth reaction to subtle pitch changes on the dial, plus the super-sensitive gauge on top, makes it incredibly easy, quick, and satisfying experience to tune. I don't worry about bringing my orchestral tuner any more - now I know I always have a superior tuner in my pocket.
It does not work
robaire27 1.0 stars Version: 1.2
All that happens is the meter spins and spins - in a silent room. Beware. It just doesn't work. I'd like my $3.99 back (sigh).
Trouble with the app
mgurf1 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
I'm hoping that mine is an isolated case, as it seems like this app should be great, but the wheel spins constantly, as though the mic is picking up hundreds of different pitches, often fails to register the correct pitch (off by a 5th-or 4th, depending on which way 'round you go), and the new update fails to install on my iPhone. I was really waiting for a chromatic tuner for iPhone, and everyone seemed to say that this was it... hopefully someone can help...
Not for Piano
symphonyconductor 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
I purchased this app to touch up my 9' Baldwin Concert Grand. It doesn't work in the two highest octaves. It was worth the $3.99 to find out. It works great in the middle range but then I have to tune by ear the rest of the way, which is extremely difficult.
Acoustic guitar and cannot get a stable reading completely unusable!
Roilator 1.0 stars Version: 1.2
Umm... I aim the iPhone mic at the sound hole of the guitar just inches away. This tuner will not stabilize on a note ever, bouncing every which way. Trying other tuner applications with the iPhone in the exact same position which worked great. Sorry not worth the price of admission until this is fixed! I'm disappointed cause it looked so good. Unfortunately a great GUI can't change an inoperable application. So Matt got an update yet?
Eh. Its ok.
Mike Bloom 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I would still recomennd the old fasioned tuners that you buy at a store.
Audio Fixed
string teacher 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.3
The previous update routed the audio through the earpiece. The current update has fixed that.
Impressive
worm_bdm 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.2
Actually replaces a $25 or $30 tuner! Works great with my trumpet!
Great tuner
Hornist 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.1
I have tried other chromatic tuners for I-Phone and this is the best of the bunch. The only problem I have is that lower in the range it seems to pick up on an overtone.
More like $39.99 app, not $3.99.
PaulTha 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.3
This app kicks butts. So accurate(I tried it on my keyboard and WOW). Also great for other uses. Highly RECOMMENED.
Great app
Lenhouse 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.3
I inherited an old upright piano and wanted tune it myself. When I started pricing chromatic tuners and saw how expensive they were, I thought I'd try the App Store. I found Cleartune, and it worked just fine. Saved me $50! A very worthwhile investment...
Incredible!
organguy 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
Thanks, Matt!
Two feature requests
da.pla 4.0 stars Version: 1.3.6
1. Ramp the volume up and down when switching the pitch pipe on or off so we don't hear the attack transient.
Simple, accurate, and always with me
Dan and a bunch of numbers 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.6
I can't believe how good this app works. The tuning really is very accurate. And it's only $4. If you consider that a regular guitar tuner will run you $14 on the cheap end, and upwards to $40, this really is great deal. It's very simple, accurate, and fits in my pocket.
Outstanding Tuner
bubbastrat 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.7
I've been playing guitar for 45 years. I started out with pitch pipe type tuners. Electronics weren't invented yet. I've tried 30-40 different types. With most of them, I need to tweak the tuning to my ear to get it right after using the electronics. With this tuner, I can tune and play. It's dead on every time. If I were in a noisy room, however, I still might need to plug in my Boss guitar/tuner using the standard guitar cable, but in home situations where ambient noise isn't a problem, this application is superior to any tuner I've used. By this way, this is my first and only app review. I feel that strongly about this tuner!
Amazing
CP1984 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.7
I had to add yet another 5 star review for this app to go with all the others. Picks up sound great and works perfectly. If you have any instuments this is a must buy!
Good enough for pros.
Timothytenor 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.7
This was used to tune an orchestra for a professional performance. It was cool to see the concertmaster tuning a real orchestra with an iphone! I trust it very much.
