Read More

Es lässt sich ja nicht einmal herausfinden, was Apple in acht Tagen auf ihrem “Come see our latest creation”-Event im Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco vorstellen wird. The hardworking folks over at tap tap tap, the developers of the extremely useful and intuitive Convert iPhone and iPod touch app, have chosen to reveal a handy little time saving tip for anyone looking to give away some app promo codes. As some of you may or may not know, iPhone developers are able to provide anyone within the U.S. promo codes for their apps.  These promo codes are usually reserved for blogs and news sites for reviews since developers are limited to 50 promo codes per app update, but some developers also choose to give them away to regular users for contests or even just when they are feeling generous.  The problem with promo codes, however, is that sometimes the developers don’t provide enough information on how to redeem them, so if you haven’t done it before, it can be a tad confusing.  Also, a more common issue is Read More

Rating: 10 out of 10Pros: Visually one of the best looking apps available in my opinion. Allowed me to get rid of the stock calculator. Cons: None that I could find.Overall:A great application with an even better interface. This app to me embodies what the iPhone app experience should be. You can purchase Convert for $1.99 in the App Store. Read More
Aaaargh! Why did they have to update an already amazing app? I had already made my decision to choose taptaptap’s Convert over Tapbots’ Convertbot, but now I have to reconsider my decision. Converbot was recently updated and they added a really easy-to-use calculator function. All it takes is one tap to access it at any time, and you can easily copy numbers from the app or paste them into it by tapping and holding on the number display. They also added the ability to turn off the currency auto-updates (good for folks watching their data) and an option to limit the decimal places in conversions (that never bugged me much). It’ a very cool update that adds a fair amount of usability, and it’s definitely brought Converbot back to my iPhone. Now to choose which one will stay! Convert has good-looking and simple appeal, but Convertbot is like the Robocop of Read More
The App Store is loaded with apps, but sadly there’s no proper way to find good ones. Well we here at AppAdvice are here to help. Just leave a comment letting us know what apps you would like to see reviewed in Septemeber. It’s completely up to you, since you have the final say. Plus a breakdown of the top selling apps for the first week of September. Is there an app that you have been waiting to buy, but just not quite sure? Is there an app that your waiting for a price drop using Bargain Bin, well maybe its worth it at the current price, just ask. Ultimately you can finally know whether apps you’re considering are worth it. Now we are not promising that we will review all the apps mentioned, but ones that are worthy will definitely get taken into consideration. Please see all the reviews we’ve Read More
Quick Look: Convert for iPhone
Calendar16 Sun, 30 Aug 2009 20:17:28 UTC +00:00
Like I said last night, I think Convert is so cool that I’ve replaced my old converter (Convertbot) and my calculator (Calculator, tee hee) with it. Developer tap tap tap has made one of those user interfaces that makes you wonder what the heck you were doing before it came along. All the action in Convert takes place on one screen: tap  and scroll along the left-most roller  to select one of the 15 conversion categories, select what you’d like to convert to and from, and then tap out the measurements in the keypad below. If you’re looking to free up some space on your first iPhone home page, I’d suggest replacing the default calculator app with Convert, since the last “converter” within the app is actually a basic calculator. There’s no landscape scientific mode, but it works! The app loads up in about two seconds and switching categories takes about Read More
iPhone App Update: Convert 1.0.1
Calendar16 Sun, 30 Aug 2009 03:41:08 UTC +00:00
We haven’t Convert on JAiB as of yet, and I do plan on remedying that in the near future. In the meantime, however, I’ll do my part in getting the news out about the first Convert update. The app isn’t even three weeks old,  and Apple has already approved version 1.0.1. There aren’t many changes as you can see, but Convert really doesn’t need all that many tweaks. It’s that good. I was pretty crazy for Convertbot a little while ago when Josh posted about it, but I think I’ve found a new favourite in Convert. I guess you could call me a Convert convert. I like it so much that I’ve replaced both Convertbot and my calculator with the app, and have freed up one spot on my first home screen in the process. How does a $0.99 converter replace a calculator, you ask? Well, check out the App Store Read More

Read More
How a iPhone App Developer Tweeted His Way to Success
Calendar16 Thu, 20 Aug 2009 17:30:09 UTC +00:00
With some 58,000 iPhone applications in the iTunes Store, developers face an uphill battle when it comes to building a user base for their applications. But thanks to a simple marketing campaign on Twitter, tap tap tap, a startup with less than 20 employees, has seen its app, Convert, become one of the top 30 most popular paid apps in less than a week. To celebrate the launch of the 99-cent app, a simple unit and currency converter tool, tap tap tap is offering people who tweet the message featured on Convert’s Tweetblast site the chance to win a $6,000, limited edition ColorWare Stealth MacBook Pro. The 14-day-long promotion that started last week has so far seen more than 16,000 people tweet about Convert, and enough people have downloaded the app to recoup the cost of the Stealth MacBook Pro, according to tap tap tap co-founder John Casasanta. With Convert’s promotion Read More

Great Application!
Jroth860 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Just like MacHeist, TapTapTap (same guys) know what they're doing and take their time to perfect it. If you have been keeping up with their site, you would have noticed Convert being there for a while tagged with "more info soon." And it's finally released! It's simple UI and many categories to choose from make this application for anyone.
Intuitive and Elegant
Roessnakhan 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This will save me a few trips to Safari to do conversions via Google Search. The program is very elegantly designed to flow with the iPhone UI but is not without its unique flare. Great application, does exactly what it says it does in a fluid way.
Great app, nice UI
kristin_alise 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Need quick, up to date currency conversion? This is the app for that. Need help with your science or math homework conversions? This is the app for that. Need to satisfy your curiosity for picas in a pixel? I do. Lot of units packed into this great app. At 0.99 you can't beat it really. Stable, clean UI. Thanks taptaptap :)
Elegant workhorse
hattric 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Not only is this app nicely designed but it is very useful too. I have tried a few converter apps but they did not seem thought out. Great app that I will show all of my buddies.
Great App, Amazing interface
Ryan Mathe 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
The last conversion app I used was ConvertBot, which was beautiful, but was a little clunky to use at times. This app is just as amazing looking, but does not sacrifice any usability. Great app, I would highly recommend. Plus, you can probably find the .99 cents in a couch cushion somewhere right?
Excellent!
davedelong 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app is slick! The interface is simple, intuitive, and easy to use. It's plain to see that taptaptap has put a *ton* of work into this. I have two complaints. 1. When scrolling from one category to another, I don't need the category picker to reveal itself and take up the entire screen. It should only do that if I tap on the currently selected category. 2. When switching to a new category, the units pickers seem to take a bit too long to load. Other than those to issues, I'd say this is easily the best unit converter I've used for iPhone.
Wonderful to use!
Viinsanity 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I absolutely love the user interface of Convert. It's easy to use and perfect for my heavy science-based classes (Physics, Chem, etc).
Beautiful and incredibly useful
5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I previously used Units to help me with my conversions, but this app has taken over both Units and the default Calculator. The interface is amazing and very intuitive, on top of having every conversion I could possibly need.
Great interface
StrangeTikiGod 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
The interface on this app is quite simply gorgeous. It's intuitive, it's clean, and it really makes the conversions easy. The app does, however, seem to be missing just a few key units of measure that seems like they should be there...why no milliliters or centiliters in the volumes? Other than that, and a slight display bug that immediately disappeared on relaunch (I had zeroes floating over the text in the middle column), this is definitely an excellent and extremely helpful app, and one that I'm sure can only get even better.
Perfect.
jsep 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Finally a converter I want to use, making it easy to toggle conversions. Beautiful intuitive design. It's perfect.
A Gr8 useful app!!!
khep224 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Well I had like 10 minutes to play with this app and I love it already, even though its a utilitie it works great and it is very useful! I think this comes in handy with all measurements and alot more!!! I suggest this to students to!
Very Good
SeanMTunes 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
It would be nice if there was a button to push and flip-flop the conversion. Also a button to view what the conversion is. Other than that great app!
Flawless
nato64 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Simple and perfect.
One of the best apps I have!
vkasyan 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Very useful functionality combined with great interface. I tried (and used for a while) some other apps - "Units", "A to Z Conversions", and "Convert" beats them without any doubt.
Huge and Handy Application
Harry Lit 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I am so bad at converting miles into kilometers or gallons into liters. This app does this and SO much more for the John Q laypersons out there. This is my first review and I'm not an easy customer, I was just blown away by this very helpful tool, something I WILL use regularly. This is what great apps are all about! Castrobear SF
Replaced the default calculator
KoukiFC3S 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great app. Interface is really smooth and easy to use and it also has a calculator.
Nice App
DKG Software 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Very nice app - it does what it says and it says what it does. Sometimes the units can be a bit difficult to select - they "roll on" a bit too long after you have stopped the wheels.
Brilliantly done!
VinodLive 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is such a joy to use. Please add a backspace button and improve the load time a bit - you are 5 Stars!!
Not for scientific applications
Justin L 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I bought this with the intention of using it to convert units in the lab, but unfortunately the units only go down to grams. It is a very elegant app and I hope that in future updates it will include micrograms, nanograms, Molar units, and other small scale units.
converbot is sh¡t.
the truth hurtz 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
finally somone makes an elegant unit convertor. nice job.
Fantastic
tdcooper 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Really well thought out app. Beautiful UI.
Love it.
nunyazz 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great app. Does exactly what I needed. Very clean interface and easy to use.
Great converter
Rossman 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great and easy to use unit converter. Could use a Mach conversion (@STP) in the speed list.
Wow... very polished and easy to use.
micboz 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I really like this app. Inteface is gorgeous and really easy to use. Well worth my $0.99
Wow!
thenattylight 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a great example of intuitive usability! Only suggestion would be to make the number pad smaller so the converter wheel has more room. It doesn't seem like the math operators need to be there all the time (+-*/)
One big flaw
mynameisraj 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
This application has a major issue in force. Kilograms and Pounds are the wrong units and thus do not convert right. It should be Kilogram Force and Pound Force. 1 Kilogram (Force) is 9.80665 Newtons, not 0.00000101971621297793 Newtons. This needs to be fixed and then my two stars will jump. If I am wrong then say so in your review and I will change my rating.
Not made for/by scientists
Angry Mad Scientist 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
As I suspected, in the converter there are many units that cannot be "converted" to one another. The app tries to convert kg to N, which of course is impossible since Newton = kg*m / s^2. Kg is mass and N is force. Also in the "weight" section, the app "converts" lb to kg. This conversion, though, is impossible. Lb is weight and kg is mass. They can't be simply converted to one another. Similar problems exist in the power and energy sections. This app is pretty and nice to use if you know which conversions are physically possible.
UI makes or breaks an iPhone app.
1947 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I've hated the UI for every single unit converter I've tried. All the rest are ugly, awkward, or require far too many taps just to do a single conversion. Convert is the delicious exception! Tap tap tap has shown that apps that perform even tasks as simple as unit conversion benefit enormously from careful consideration of their user interface. There is no better unit converter for iPhone than Convert. And $0.99 is a crazy fair price to pay!
Best conversion app
caa100 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
There was a lot of hype over the interface of ConvertBot, but I found it a pain to use. This app is much cleaner, very well planned, and easy to use. Integration of the calculator was a great idea. Firs release did not have milliliters (mL). Now they've added it. Upping my rating to 5-star, and deleting ConvertBot and Units once and for all. But please, update the Icon!
UI sounds
Fcloth 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Amazingly polished but where are the UI feedback sounds?
Central America
Honduran traveler 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app does not convert many currencies and to my observation none in central america.
good app
wekowki 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
missing the very basic feet AND inches conversion. Otherwise the interface is quite nice and the range of units and currencies included is broad. I hope they expand the currencies.
