The TouchArcade Show – 15 – Curious Voicemails
Calendar16 Sat, 03 Sep 2011 00:17:41 UTC +00:00
This week’s TouchArcade Show is the longest we’ve ever produced. Coincidentally, it has the most Frogger discussion we’ve ever had, too. As bad as it sounds on the surface, don’t let the latter stop you from lending us your earholes this week. We get into a lot of interesting discussion. At the top -- beyond the Frogger junk -- we chat about the bevy of fabulous releases that came down this week. Following the break, we talk up even more new releases until finally moving onto topics such as censorship and awards shows. This is probably our most off-beat shows, but it's also one of our more fun ones. To give us a listen, just download the file directly or stream it via the links below. If you’d like to subscribe to our audio awesomeness, feel free to do so via the iTunes or the Zune Marketplace. Here are your show Read More

Accessories for July 11 2011
Calendar16 Tue, 12 Jul 2011 00:10:00 UTC +00:00
By – Accessories are special today. Check them out! The iMarker‚Äö√묢 digital stylus is the key. Like a marker, crayon, pen and paintbrush in one, iMarker creates favorite Crayola colors within the ColorStudio HD app. iMarker looks like a Crayola marker, but is safe to use with the Multi-Touch display of your iPad. The ColorStudio HD app automatically differentiates between iMarker and your child‚Äö√Ñ√¥s finger taps and swipes, allowing intuitive, creative play without having to toggle between modes. Your child enjoys the accuracy and ease of a stylus without giving up direct manipulation of the creative space.   IDAPT i1 Eco is a dual charger (tip and USB) that allows you to charge all your devices  for  today and tomorrow, reducing the daily impact on the environment. Innovative interchangeable tip system allows you to use only one charger for all your devices, ensuring a future proof compatibility, thanks to our commitment to constantly develop Read More
When Griffin and Crayola announced their collaboration back at CES in January, the idea of a combined stylus and drawing/painting iPad app for kids -- with the power to distinguish between finger touches and the tip of the stylus -- sounded fantastic. The flexibility of the iPad for keeping kids engaged and entertained, especially on long trips, is remarkable; something like the iMarker could supercharge it substantially. We were curious, though: how (and how well) would it actually work? Now shipping in both the App Store and at Best Buy, the iMarker and ColorStudio HD combine a well-designed, kid-friendly app with an innovative stylus technology, but is the bundle US$30 worth of fun? And does it meet the demands of both parents and kids? There are plenty of painting and coloring apps already out for iPad, so let's talk about what sets this package apart: the hardware. Griffin announced via its Facebook page that its collaboration with Crayola, ColorStudio HD for iPad, is now available. We first heard of it just before CES, when news of the app along with the new iMarker stylus came out. The US$29.99 marker-styled accessory allows kids -- or any other coloring enthusiast -- to color more than 50 interactive coloring pages. A trial mode, available if you download the map but do not own the stylus, allows you to paint three pictures with your finger. iMarker is now available through Best Buy and Griffin's site, and we will be getting our hands on it to give is a good run-through. Reviews

Awesome!
Kevin V. 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
I picked up the iMarker stylus from Best Buy yesterday and this thing works great. I'm not sure what you guys are talking about my 3 year old doesn't have any issues applying the right amount of pressure to make this work. The app is awesome both me and my daughter have been play with this non stop. To those complaining about spending the $$ on the stylus.....get a job. $30 to amuse a kid on a long trip is worth every penny. I don't understand the sense of entitlement in the reviews. Everyone thinks everything should be free and if its not it's "corporate greed". If you can afford an iPad you can afford $30 for the stylus and app and if you can't afford the $30 I feel sorry for you.
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!
Scott Daly 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
I have been waiting for this wonderful app for over 6 months when it was supposed to be released the first time and now I'm so excited it's finally available. The only problem is I have to buy your special stylus for it to work! You have got to be kidding me? Is this why you pt a hold on the release dat in the first place? I like the idea of having a special pen to use but you should really give us an option to use our fingers or another stylus. This is made for kids in the first place and drawing with their fingers is what makes it fun for them. I don't care if a special pen keeps them from drawing over the lines or all over the picture. This is the learning process and what will develop the skills and their imagination. I really want to love this app so PLEASE make it an option to purchase the additional pen and don't make it mandatory to use the best part of this app. I can't afford to spend money on something that is made for kids that in time will break or get lost and have to buy a new one. Please consider this!
Great

Bought the pen at Bestbuy for the grandkids. They love it, especially the free draw! Definitely worth the wait!
Been patiently waiting

So glad this is finally available, one problem, where do you buy the stylus?
Awesome App!
Erica328 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
This product is great! I haven't had any of the problems with my iMarker that others are mentioning. The app is beautiful and the variety of coloring pages is great! I especially like the stay-inside-the-lines feature. Helps me create a perfect picture!

Great idea.......BUT, there are a few quirks to be worked out. The app really needs a sensitivity setting option as I do agree with other comments that it requires quite a bit of pressure for younger children (and Dads too). Also, the e-mail and print functions don't appear to be working and there's no tutorial for settings those up? Finally, for those of you belly-aching about buying the special stylus, there is a "finger" option setting. Although, I don't think using the finger option setting allows all the features of the app to be accessed. However, I do agree that $30 is a bit steep for a stylus that just has a little "window" that randomly changes colors. Also, how about more coloring templates..... I'll look forward to an update soon.

This thing is great! My daughter plays with it nonstop! No problems with having to push down hard with the stylus. If your child loves to color & is lucky enough to own an iPad, drop the $30 for it & enjoy!!
Reboot your iPad!
Todd Fisher 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Note to those that are seeing the app crash at launch- try rebooting your iPad since that will likely fix the issue. I've seen that happen with other apps before and rebooting the iPad corrected the issue.
Colorful fun!

My childhood art tool has finally joined the digital age and it is even more fun than I remember. I've spent a lot more time than I expected relieving stress by taking 10 minute coloring breaks. The kids love it even more of course. The iMarker was a great surprise find that was cheaper than the smart cover I just bought! (to give some perspective on the price.) Well worth it in my opinion. I am always happy to have Crayola in the house instead of just another video game. Creativity is so important these days. As a web designer I am very sad to see so many art programs being cut back in school. They were what inspired me! I really like that they included a way for kids to make their own coloring pages.
Cool idea. Not fully baked
Miles Loretta 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
App is still very buggy. Needs more improvements. Also gotta love the pen just coming out and it's out of stock. Way to plan ahead. Ha!!!!!
I like it
