A Bridge to Car 2.0: Kiwi WiFi Device & iPhone Apps
Calendar16 Wed, 18 Aug 2010 01:14:47 UTC +00:00
The ultimate vision of Car 2.0 is one of vehicles that tap into a stream of data from cell phones, GPS devices, in-vehicle diagnostics, and sensors that can make our cars smarter and driving more efficient. That’s the long term goal, anyway. In the mean time, there are devices coming out that can bridge that connection, like the Kiwi WiFi dongle, from PLX Devices, which is now compatible with at least three iPhone applications, and can also be extended throughout the car with sensors. The CEO of startup Virtual Vehicle company, Laura Schewel, told me she thought the Kiwi WiFi device was a breakthrough and “a huge deal,” for companies building businesses off of vehicle data, particularly now that the device has been cleared to work with Apple apps. The $150 Kiwi WiFi device plugs into the onboard diagnostic car port, called the OBD-II, which is standard on all cars built Read More

Sweet!
Deletarus 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
I've been using this since beta and it's awesome. Is your check engine light on? Find out why and clear it without taking your car anywhere. (requires a wifi OBD2 adapter). This can certainly come in handy, I know from experience. Wanna know how many Gs your pulling in the corners? Have at. Dashboards are sweet too. Basically. It's just cool. There are also additional features in the works. Check out the PC version too. At palmerperformance dot com Great user forum there as well.
Useful automotive interface
Teknophile 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
I've used this app at a local autocross. The "racetrack" and skidpad are useful for improving your driving. The downside is the iphone's gps is not that accurate and will sometimes record coords. that are well outside the track. The diagnostics look useful, but I don't own the 3rd party OBD-II to wifi interface so I haven't used it. It would be better if someone were to make a blutooth module or a dock cable with an OBD connector and a USB connector for power. I've contaced the developer with suggestions and they seem appreciative of constructive input so ive given the app 5 stars. Bottom line It's a pretty good auto tool for an iPhone.
This App Rocks!!!
Tiron017 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
I took this app out to an autocross the other day and it works great. The skid pad is awesome. The GPS track mapping is my favorite. :D
Great App
Xygar 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
This app is really useful. The dashboards are really cool, you can get a lot of useful information that you usually don't have access to. The skidpad and racetrack are really cool too. Great for track days!! I love seeing how many G's I'm pulling and see my progress going around the track. Overall, quite useful. I really recommend it. And did I mention you can read and clear trouble codes!
almost perfect
Pissinrazorz 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
this is the most useful app i have. the only thing i would like to see added to it is the ability to view data logs in a graph (or maybe i just haven't figured that one out yet)
Awesome!!
TigerFishy 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
This app rocks! You can read tons of PID's off of your ECU and even get the trouble codes off. The dashboard page shows multiple gauges which I love. And you can specify which PID's you want to read so it refreshes quicker. Its Awesome! The GPS tracking in dashcommand is way better than Rev's. It draws lines instead of dots. And rev starts erasing your track after like half a mile, which is really annoying and gay. By the way all code readers erase your ECU's stored history, even rev. At least dashcommand let's you know what it's doing.
Falls short compared to "Rev"
02 Eph 3.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
This is a nice app that does what it says it'll do, but I greatly prefer the app "Rev", which gives you SO much more info in a very polished package. At the time I write this Rev is $10 more expensive, but SO worth it.
Don't waste your money, get Rev
no1else 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
This is a half assed version of rev. It's hard to read the dash because the gages look compressed and mishaped. There's no customizing what metrics are displayed, if your vehicle doesn't support it it's just dead?? Why in the world would change screens by taping an arrow? HELLO! The iPhone has this great feature called swiping. If you bought this for the accelerometer you wasted your money because there are free and better apps for that. The track gps is weak compared to Rev. Once rev comes out with their new version they will support auxillary sensors with the right hardware. The code scanner is decent, although it erases the stored history in your ecu which means you won't pass emissions. LAME
