Quick Look: Dayta for iPhone
Calendar16 Sun, 07 Nov 2010 15:53:37 UTC +00:00
Dayta ($1.99) is a powerful, design-y data tracker for your iPhone. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and have found it surprisingly feature complete for a v1.0 application. In fact, the only real problem has been finding ways to use the app in the Dayta day (so to speak). Fill ‘er up From the very first moment you load Dayta up, it’ll be up to you to figure out exactly what to use it for. The whole app is organized around tracking and displaying statistics over a given period of time. You can assign each data set (e.g. My Weight) its own icon and unit type, and you can even sort all of your data sets by folder (Folder name: Why I can’t lose weight; Data sets: donut intake, poutine intake, etc.). Once you’ve established a given data set you can add your data by using a numpad Read More

Finally.
I <3 Apple 5.0 stars Version: 1
Finally, I've been waiting for this type of app forever and it's finally here. Can't believe it only took a week. FREAKING AMAZING.
Not sure what I'm really going to use it for
Deseao 3.0 stars Version: 1
But for those who were confused by the lack of a number pad, swipe the +- thing left, to reveal a numpad entry field. A bit tricky, I know.
Almost there!!
EmersonG1 3.0 stars Version: 1
This is good work. One of the best features is that you can track as many things as you want, separately. Suggestions: 1) the "goal" line is not even close to accurate, kind of useless if it's wrong. 2) when entering numbers, let's get a keypad in there. Not very fun to tap the "+" sign to 100!!
Crashy, buy good start
bnjmnck 3.0 stars Version: 1
Pretty crashy, but even aside from that, I could not use this app as my primary log jar yet—some things that would make this app immediately more useful to me: 1. Let me plot logs against one another—I often want to see how my performance in one category correlates to others (eg coffee intake v. sleep). 2. Encryption & password protection. 3. More icons. I can't imagine uses for some of thestock ones, and some obvious ones are missing.
Great app
beub87 5.0 stars Version: 1
This is a fantastic app! The design is beautiful. It is fairly easy to use. Very simple... not overly confusing at all. I'm using this app to track system admin stuff at work and I think it'll be very useful. Two things I think it could use: 1. add a keypad to type in large numbers and 2. be able export all folders and logs at once. Other than those things, this app is awesome!
Love it!
ChicagoMusicGuy 5.0 stars Version: 1
I just found out about this app through twitter and immediately downloaded... for .99, why not? This is definitely one of the more useful tracking apps I have seen. Great for musicians!
One week is long enough to develop a good app, apparently
redwall_hp 5.0 stars Version: 1
The developer behind the One Week App blog has succeeded in creating a very useful and polished application, and in a mere seven days. Dayta is a simple application, but one that many will find useful. If you have any type of data you want to track over time, Dayta is the answer. TIP: It took me a few minutes to figure this out, but you don't have to spend an eternity clicking the plus and minus buttons if you need to enter a large number. If you create a data point and then tap the upward-pointing arrow icon that rests on the bar that says "Recent history," a modal dialog will open with a list of all the data points. On that screen, you can tap any one of the data points to open a numerical keypad, complete with decimal point.
Well done!
HappiFunBall 5.0 stars Version: 1
I very much enjoyed following the progress of this app as it was being developed. I learned a few good tips and that is worth at least the price of the app :) But on top of that, I have wanted an app like Dayta since I got my iPhone. It is a very good concept and will be very useful I'm sure. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!
Rubbish
Quatsalt 1.0 stars Version: 1
For an app designed for data collection this is remarkably stupid. IT CAN'T HANDLE DECIMALS. The description's favorite example is "hours slept" but who sleeps exactly a whole number of hours? And if you want to enter "308" for some parameter, you can't type in that number. You can't even scroll to it. You have to push a button 308 times. Who has time for that crap? I would say the creators could not have made this more annoying if they had tried, but it crashes all the time too. After a year of app purchases this is the first time I cared enough to write a review. I'm completely pissed I can't get my money back.
Waited

I've been waiting for an app like this for a while. When I saw that you were going to make an app in one week i secretly hoped it was a game and then almost lost it when I found out what you were planning. This app is excellent and extremely helpful! Thanks so much and great job!
Brilliant, long-awaited - if I say so myself!
Seven Six 5.0 stars Version: 2
Took long enough! But now that's it out, I'm glad I never gave up. Hope you guys like it!
Great app
gordoBordo 5.0 stars Version: 1
Fun to follow along during the development of the app and great execution.
Decent, shows promise, please improve.
AllenH. 3.0 stars Version: 1
I like Dayta quite a bit. Interface is wonderful, the basic concept is sound and works. But there is at least 1 serious bug and 2 features we really need. The question is whether updates are forthcoming, or if this was a one-week coding project and continuous revenue source only. Error- serious graphing issues- I don't know of it's graphing in linear or log (y axis is non existent) and it appears the distance from bottom to top of the graph has nothing to do with "zero". This makes looking at the graph almost meaningless, as only deltas in data will make sense, not actual position on the graph. We'd love to see: ability to have a multiplier set in data options and also time calculations. (work on project for 5 20 minute segments = ? Hours for example). Also love the ability to reorganize folders and projects. Ok, I'm slightly harsh in this review, but it's only because the program is excellent and shows huge promise. I love the little spaklines beside the project Names- just one example of the excellent interface. Well thought out, we all just want more!! :)
Track almost anything
memph1st0 4.0 stars Version: 1
Nice job on this clean UI. I wish I could track individual items though and not just general areas.
Epic failure
Booklover60 1.0 stars Version: 1
What should be a seemingly simple app doesn't work,! What's the point if I can't set goals or make daily entries?
Trouble...
FlaAl 2.0 stars Version: 1
I've been using this app for months and was happy enough with it. But after the last OS update, it has started crashing. The numeric pad doesn't have a decimal anymore... and when I try to make an entry it crashes... as for support - Hello! it's an ad. - no support there. I hate that this has happened since this was the only app that did what I used this for.
Degrades over time
Prof. Profligate 3.0 stars Version: 1
Earlier versions allowed decimals, now it crashes whenever I attempt to enter a decimal, either by "swiping left" on the +-, or hitting the ^ in the data. This basic feature worked until about a month ago. I would have put this into a support log or email the dev directly, but that is not an option on the website. Nonetheless, if you are a fan of whole numbers and hitting attractive buttons, it works just fine.
Constantly crashes cannot get it to work
K8theGRR8 1.0 stars Version: 1
I just downloaded this app and I am assuming the issue is with the new iOS4 and the app not being compatible but who knows for sure. I was able to set up folders and a new data item but as soon as I try to enter actual data it crashes on me...not a happy camper!!!
Should be removed from the store
JS1122 1.0 stars Version: 1
Hasn't been updated since it released in Feb 2010 and crashes constantly on iPhone 4 and/or iOS4 and should be removed from the store. If nothing else, should at least be changed to a free app to save people from paying for a nonfunctioning application. All it was, was a test to see if a app could be written in a week, nothing more. Hence the oneweekapp.com URL.
CAUTION: STAY AWAY!!!
Midfield Thoughts 1.0 stars Version: 1
GO TO ONELOG INSTEAD! (I'm not affiliated with onelog in any way). DO NOT BUY DAYTA UNTIL IT'S UPDATED! IT WILL CRASH AND YOU W I L L LOSE YOUR DATA! DATES CHANGE RANDOMLY! CANNOT EDIT INFO! DEVELOPER APPEARS TO HAVE ABANDONED THIS $1.99 APP: NO UPDATES SINCE ITS FEB.2010 LAUNCH! Great idea, good GUI, worked as should until os4... Developers - update please- none since launch?? I like your other app ( will not mention name ) but won't buy due to your neglect of this one.
Lame
Mr. Number Cruncher 1.0 stars Version: 1
This app is frustrating! Mine continues to crash randomly. Also, it doesn't consolidate the data correctly. It was supposed to consolidate it by day; however, it does it for multiple days. In other words, it thinks it's Thursday data, but it's Friday. Furthermore, the icons to label your files are limited. I can't believe I got suckered on this one. Hopefully, there are improvements on the way.
Excellent concept, needs work
sandbox32 3.0 stars Version: 1
First off, the developer does a great job on design — the interface is great amd feels refined, even though the app was made in a single week. However, there are a couple of places that require improvement. • The app feels sluggish overall. Animations aren't smooth and the app occasionally crashes from things as simple as hitting the + button. • The goal line isn't accurate. Kinda pointless to have it if it doesn't work. • The "Consolidate By Day" option does not consolidate things by day, it consolidates by 24-hour periods. For example, for Sleep Time, I only want to have one entry per day. But when I went to add my sleep time today, it added it to my previous day's sleep time. • The "Reset to zero" option appears to do nothing. • The interface for entering numbers has quite a learning curve. It took me awhile to figure out that both boxes work for entering numbers, and that you tap the number to enter it. • The data graph is not proportional. For example, if I enter a data points on Monday, Tuesday, and Sunday, they will be shown as the same distance apart on the graph even though the data points were entered at different times. • There are no y-axis number labels. I don't know what the data points are without tapping on it. Also, there should be horizontal lines on the graph. This app has potential. Keep on sending out updates! That was a really long review.
Great app, needs work
Zombie of 83 3.0 stars Version: 1
I thin the developer dropped this in order to stick to his one week, one app mantra, which is truly a shame. I think fixing the bugs would be worth it.
Does not work correctly with iOS4
MS38163 2.0 stars Version: 1
This is a pretty easy to use data tracker (once I figured out how to bring up a keypad for entering larger numbers... non obvious). The only problem is that this no longer works in iOS4 on the iPhone. Any attempt to enter data or large(r) numbers, such as one's weight bounces you out of the app. It's very frustrating.
Crashes, also confusing
Arghiterrasedmyreview 1.0 stars Version: 1
Crashes ....and confusing how to switch days? How do I enter a value for yesterday???
