Apple released its iTunes Rewind 2011 and App Store Rewind 2011 today, the company’s annual lists detailing of the top selling apps, music, TV shows, movies and podcasts for the year. This year, the biggest winner on the apps front was Angry Birds, which ran away with the number one spot on the iPhone and iPad in all categories except top free iPhone app, which was awarded to Facebook. Apple also selects its own favorite applications, and one of our preferred apps, Instagram, won the honor of being Apple’s “iPhone App of the Year.” Angry Birds, which is available on iOS as both a paid and free application, not only dominated the year-end lists as the number one download in several cases, it also occupied additional slots on multiple lists for its spinoffs, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio. The awesome monstrosity you see above is the iDJ Live, a set of two turntables and a control panel that also serves as a dock for your iPad. The device is manufactured and sold by famous DJ supplier Numark, and it features the ones and the twos, a cross fader, and a hookup to any sort of sound system you want. Obviously it's set up for the iPad, but it works with the iPhone as well. The device works with the djay app available in the App Store for both devices, and it's only $100, surprisingly inexpensive for what it offers. We haven't gotten hands on it yet, but if you're an aspiring iPad DJ who could use something a little more tactile than the iPad's touch screen, this might be just the thing. Read More

We've taken a few looks at Algoriddim's excellent djay software before, originally for the Mac and introduced to both the iPhone and the iPad in the last year or so. And the excellent iPad version has just gotten better -- a free update brings the software to version 1.2, including compatibility for all of the processors in the newest version of Apple's tablet, making it faster than ever and providing for high-end features, such as time stretching, looping and advance audio analysis. The desktop version of djay can do things like detect beats in your favorite songs and sync tunes automatically, and now the iPad version of djay can do that as well (provided you're running it on an iPad 2). Macworld 2011 was again host to the Macworld Music Studio this year, a popular show floor attraction hosted in collaboration with the Berklee College of Music, offering sessions and performances by professionals from the school and featuring instruction, demonstrations and training. Previous years have strictly focused on the Mac, but this year’s expo added a number of iOS-based sessions to the mix, including “iOS Mobile Apps for the Guitar” on Thursday and Friday and “Mobile Applications for the Musician” on Saturday morning. While this may indeed be the case, this latest commercial isn’t as iconic as others, and perhaps doesn’t show the range of the iPad’s apps that others have.
