'Doom' And 'Doom II' De-Listed In Germany
Calendar16 Thu, 01 Sep 2011 16:00:25 UTC +00:00
Neat! id Software’s parent company, ZeniMax Media, just won an important appeal for the Doom franchise in Germany. According to an official post on the Bethesda blog, Doom and Doom II have been de-listed by the Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons following some smart court action. This will undoubtedly pave the way for unedited versions of the PC games to hit the country and, hey, presumably even an App Store release or two if things swing our way. For you score keepers out there, id Software has released three games in the franchise on the US App Store so far: Doom Classic [$6.99], [$4.99], and [$6.99]. The two older games now are 16+ games which means, essentially, that they can actually be sold without substantial edits. Before, the original titles obviously couldn’t without restrictions. Anecdotally, this rating change comes on the heels of Epic Games' Gears of War 3 grabbing an 18+ rating Read More
Old-school RPG enthusiasts have something to look forward to coming soon on their iOS devices. Indie studio Geppetto Games is currently in production on Descend, a grid-based first-person role-playing game that is influenced by classics like the Dungeon Masters and Eye of the Beholder series. If the mention of those two classics has stirred up some excitement in your belly, keep in mind that Descend is merely influenced by them, and will look to do some things differently than those titles. The combat will be fully turn-based, similar to Doom II RPG [$2.99], and feature a party system. Also, instead of the typical flat textures and faux 3D scaling techniques used back in the day to make games appear three dimensional, the world of Descend will actually be rendered entirely in 3D. I’m excited to see how Descend ends up turning out, and what kind of impact modern visuals will have Read More
Last week during the QuakeCon keynote address, John Carmack pulled an iPhone 4 out of his pocket and shocked the audience by showing a demo of id Software's next game, Rage, running on the device. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Rage will have elements of racing games and first person shooters. There's also said to be RPG elements in the game as well, making it sound similar to both the Fallout series and Borderlands. Information is still limited as the game isn't slated to launch until 2011, but either way the following demonstration is beyond impressive: We've spoken at length with John Carmack in the past, where he's mentioned potential upcoming id Software titles such as Doom 2, Quake Classic, and the rest of the id back catalog coming to the App Store. Wondering what the state of all these projects were, we once again pow wowed with Carmack to see Read More

Read More

Rage demo'd at 60 fps on iPhone, id games on sale
Calendar16 Thu, 12 Aug 2010 22:00:00 UTC +00:00
QuakeCon is going down this weekend in Dallas, Texas -- the annual celebration of everything id Software (makers of Quake and Doom, among a few other classic PC titles) features tournaments and panels on some of the hottest PC games around. But there's already been one big Apple announcement: John Carmack has demonstrated id's newest game, Rage, running at a full 60 frames per second on the iPhone. We first heard of this game at QuakeCon a couple of years ago, and Carmack has always said that making sure it ran on the Mac would be a priority, but it looks like he's delivered the goods. The demo was run on an iPhone 4, but Carmack said it worked great on the iPad as well. Carmack said the iPhone version would be out sometime this year, before the full version of Rage arrives on consoles and PC. Oh, and icing on Read More
QuakeCon 2010 is a free four day gaming festival that takes place down in Dallas, TX every year. QuakeCon is host to a massive LAN as gamers from all over bring their PC's to come play games locally, see the latest software and hardware from various vendors, and compete in various tournaments. I've never been able to make it to the event, but it's always been high on my to do list as friends of mine who go every year routinely rave about what an awesome time QuakeCon is. ...But just because we're not in Texas this weekend doesn't mean we're missing out on all the QuakeCon festivities, as to celebrate the event id Software has significantly dropped the price of all of their iPhone games. These games are all worth owning, and highly recommended. DOOM Resurrection, $6.99 → $1.99 - Everything that is awesome about a modern Doom game applied Read More
Best iPhone Games February 2010
Calendar16 Mon, 08 Mar 2010 06:07:18 UTC +00:00
Our February game ratings are in place now, and here are the top of the heap. Our monthly "best of" round-up summarizes the top rated games that we looked at in the previous month. Each game reviewed receives a 1-5 star rating relative to the other games from that month. Generally, a 3 or higher is considered a "good" rating. Our final scores are not the product of any traditionally objective measures such as graphics or sound, but simply reflect the games we would most recommend to others. Space Miner - It's probably no surprise that this game topped our list for February. Space Miner: Space Ore Bust has an unusually broad appeal successfully mixing shooter and RPG genres into a humorous and well scripted package. Whatever sort of gamer you are, don't miss out on this one. (Review, App Store) Plants vs. Zombies - Popcap's breakout hit for PC has Read More

Like Wolfenstein RPG before it, id Software’s latest venture into the world of Doom has more in common with turn-based dungeon hacks of the 80’s than with the shooter genre from whence it sprang. Don’t get me wrong – there are guns aplenty here – but instead of relying on twitch-fingered accuracy and eagle-eyed precision, Doom II RPG [App Store] shifts the series focus to strategy and exploration. It’s a strange direction for the franchise to explore, but it works. In each of the 9 levels presented here your goal will be the same; explore your surroundings until you’ve managed to uncover the exit. How you’ll go about that, however, can really differ from level to level. In some instances you’ll need to find hidden keycards. In others you’ll need to power up doorways or use a robot to explore gas-filled rooms. Level design offers up enough variety that things never Read More

Doom II RPG unleashed on iPhone
Calendar16 Fri, 12 Feb 2010 04:00:00 UTC +00:00
I remember there being a joke about new devices coming out: Yeah, but does it run Doom? The iPhone does, and apparently Id is on a hot streak now. According to TouchArcade, the Doom II RPG [$3.99, iTunes Link] was released Tuesday on the App Store. What I've seen is that people are enjoying it. I tend to take my time with quest-style games, so I am not really far into it (stage one of nine), but I am liking it a lot. I never had a device before that I really wanted to be playing games on, so I never spent a lot of time with Doom's previous flavors -- this one is an RPG variant on the classic Doom shooting gameplay, made just for the iPhone by Id. Right now I'm really digging it, and for me it's worth the time spent because I'll have my phone awhile still. Read More
Deal ‘2 Damage’ To Imps In Doom II RPG for the iPhone
Calendar16 Thu, 11 Feb 2010 17:58:21 UTC +00:00
With last summer’s successful launch of Wolfenstein RPG on the iPhone, id Software has released Doom II RPG. Doom II RPG is a direct sequel to 2005′s Doom RPG, which was made available on various mobile platforms.  The game allows you to pick one of  three characters with their own unique starting attributes, which you can upgrade through experience earned in the game.  All of the weapons you’ve come to know and love from Doom make an appearance, such as the Super Shotgun and BFG, but new weapons make an appearance like the questionably lethal ‘Holy Water Pistol’. Doom II RPG has you battling through 9 maps which include the Moon, Earth, and, of course, Hell and promises over 8 hours of gameplay.  The game was also developed by the same team that made Wolfenstein RPG, so if you enjoyed that title, then you’ll probably enjoy this one as well. 'Doom II RPG' Gameplay Footage

Id's Doom II RPG [$3.99] was released yesterday, and so far has had an overwhelmingly positive reception in our forums. Much like Wolfenstein RPG [$1.99], Doom II RPG is a turn-based 3D game chock full of crazy humor, items to loot, and enemies to slay. Here is some gameplay footage of the first few moments of the game: We're still powering through the game for our full review, but right now, it's safe to say if you like silly turn based RPG's, Doom II RPG is a worthy purchase.   #4   Today, 05:19 PM Senior Member iPod Touch (4th Gen), iOS 5.x Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Where you dont live Posts: 1,485 Yes it absolutely specatcular! Doom II RPG Brings Turn-Based Gameplay Straight To Hell
Calendar16 Tue, 09 Feb 2010 17:08:41 UTC +00:00
id Software has brought yet another Doom title to the iPhone, only this time it is in turn-based RPG form. Doom II RPG pits you against the forces of hell as they once again attempt to conquer Earth.  As you may have already deduced from the “RPG” in the game’s title, Doom II RPG isn’t a run and gun first-person shooter, it’s a turn-based game that will have you gathering information, solving puzzles, and of course, slaying Hell’s minions.  It’s actually a port of a mobile phone game by the same name, and was developed by the same team that brought you Wolfenstein RPG for the iPhone. The game features nine maps spanning across the Moon, Earth, and Hell itself, and is said to include over eight hours of total gameplay.  You will be able to choose from three different characters, each with their own unique attributes and dialogue experiences.  You Read More

Good game. Better than WolfRPG?
5DUC29 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
It's much better than WolfRPG. I hope there is no driving scene like in Wolfenstein. The game visuals are really good too. Nice job Id. Maybe change the icon. It's kind of ugly :P
cool
NO SOLE OUT 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
the best, i love this game and doom2:)
It might have Doom in the name, but it is NOT DOOM
Puzzle Girl 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was very excited and bought this instantly when it came out yesterday. I really regret my purchase. This is just a very lack-luster port of the J2ME/BREW version of the game. It fails to capture the essence of "DOOM". It is full of sloppy mistakes. It tries to be cute and funny. Which just isn't what a DOOM game is. The guns look terrible and are modeled after DOOM 3 rather than the classic and loved DOOM. Doom is about killing TONS of hellish monsters, not a handfull of bad guys. In a nutshell, DOOM II RPG is just Wolf 3D RPG with the Doom assets and sounds. If you liked Wolf 3D RPG, you'll probably love this too. But if you wanted something that lives up to the DOOM name, skip this title.
Wow amazing
metal23123 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Lol at the tard who says this isnt doom. Well that's obvious the title says doom rpg. He should  his  off

UESC 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
If you liked the original DOOM RPG, then stop reading right now and buy the game! I've played the game for about an hour now, and i'm happy to say the gameplay from the first doom RPG is in-tact. you move around using the d-pad, and can strafe by swiping left or right on the screen. There's the computers with funny e-mail exchanges like before, and fighting is ste up just like the first game. I think ID made good use from the wolfenstein engine, and i haven't seen any crashing or bugs as of yet. I like some of the improvments, like adding hacking and other mini-games to change the pace of the game. all in all, if you like doom and you like RPG's, give it a try, you won't be dissapointed!
Wonderful
SantanaClaus89 5.0 stars Version: 1.0

I love this game and it's very fun and challening. I beat the first one few years back and I also loved Orcs and Elves games too. If you loved those you will enjoy this.
It's addictive!
WvxRedSealxWv 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Well, I give it more credit than other people are giving it, because it's fun, epic, and challenging. I've heard some people complain that it's not like the first one, and that's true but... John Carmac made the game, therefore he can remix it. I've become addictive to it. Lol. The one thing I hope they do is put the original Doom RPG up. If they did that, then it would be great.
Good but random crashes
Mohaamaster 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I enjoyed wolfenstein rpg and this is good but it keeps randomly crashing so it gets annoying hope it can be fixed in the next update then it will be 5 stars

Anyone who has played Doom II will love the last boss! I only wish the cyberdemon played a larger role. He was the "Harbinger" in Wolf RPG after all.
I love it
zI Veo Iz 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Must buy for those who loved Wolfestein RPG.
For all you kiddies giving bad reviews because "It ain't Doom 2", STFU.
SDeFranco1 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
It is called DOOM II RPG. If you can't read, then you only have yourself to blame. I am having a blast with this game. There are some unfair situations where you are simply wailed on from all sides taking copious hits, but beyond that, plenty of fun, power-ups, humor, and more of everything that made the first Doom RPG so very enjoyable. Thanks ID!
Great Game
ZippySR 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a great RPG game. If you liked Wolfenstien RPG, buy this immediately!
Long,fun,challenging
Robry124 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Played this game on a 6 hour road trip ( back and forth ) and still have the level hell to complete. The dialogue is comical but it doesn't take away from the game. Really long lasting game and worth the cash :)

I bought this game thinking it would be a little strange. Well I was right but in a good way. It is different from the original dooms but still amazing!
Nicely made..
Thesaxmaniac 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
but there's not much else nice about it. It's pretty much wolfenstein rpg again, except it's not as good. The weapons are underpowered, making every battle feel just too long. The game tries to make up for it's easy difficulty by ambushing you constantly, much like in the wolf rpg. At first it's not so bad, but they occur too often and you start to realize that ambuses are just cheap. Eventually you get to hell where you can be ambushed by countless monsters with multiple archdemons mixed in. The problem with this is that it's sometimes very hard just to get through to the archdemon, as killing the other monsters is useless because they will get ressurected. Sometimes you'll just get trapped by a constantly ressurected monster blocking a doorway with no way to kill the archdemons. Speaking of killing, the graphics seem to have been toned down as to not get rejected or a 17+ rating from apple. The only animation for weapons hitting monsters is the lame "I got hit so I'm gonna reel backwards" effect. At least their remains are a bit gory. The minigames are kind of fun and the gunplay ranges from boring to interesting, but the complete lack of strategy and limited "rpg" elements (it's just a basic auto-level) make this game feel like a mobile port. Which it probably is.
Great Game but...
LENoid 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
It's a really good game but the only thing that I don't like is that when I go to a different level it automatically quits and I have to restart to keep playing. Also this game needs an option to turn off the vibration like Wolfenstein RPG
Please fix crashes
Ultraman50 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Now the crashes are Happening way too often that it discouraging to play! All my other apps work fine so it has to be this game. PLEASE FIX!!!! Still 4 stars.
Fun RPG
hominid 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a fun (and funny) RPG. If you were expecting the FPS you were, or still are, the type who never does their homework. Read up chumps! I withheld all 5 stars because this game crashes a lot. I save it every few minutes, but the reloading is getting old. Get it stable and I'll throw in the last star.
Not up to par
OverDoseD764 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I'm sry But after wolfenstein rpg which I liked but hated I thought u guys would fix the linear crap. What made the original doom rpg so fun was that u can go back and redo levels just to kill stuff and whatnot plus collect the loot over and play ur favs without having to play over and over. I thought u would fix it come doom2 rpg but I see not. It's still a great game and I like it but when I pick up the old one and have more fun with it that shows u didn't do good enuf. Big ID fan and I have a high expectation from u guys for all the great games uve made plz don't go downhill from here.
Bad game-Nothing like the original Doom

WanzerPilot 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
After the horrible mistake named Doom: Resurection, ID shows it's strenght again with a new classic RPG. Doom RPG has got everything, you would expect from a thrilling mobile game.
