iPhone 4 SIRI Alternatives
Calendar16 Tue, 06 Dec 2011 17:20:25 UTC +00:00
Posted 12/06/2011 at 9:20am | by Cory Bohon Will Siri be available on the iPhone 4? Or do we have to pay $200+? Unfortunately, Siri is iPhone 4S–specific, and won’t work on earlier versions of the iPhone. But there are other tools that you can use to get Siri-like functionality on your existing iPhone. For starters, Voice Control has been built into iPhones since the iPhone 3GS. Hold down the Home button for a few seconds, and speak simple commands like, “Call Cory,” or specify songs or artists to play from your music library. Voice Control can also answer simple queries like “What day is it?” or “What time is it?” Vlingo works similar to Siri. Just tap on the Press & Speak button and speak your message. However, that’s really where Voice Control’s functionality stops. To get more commands, we recommend Vlingo. This free app sends text messages, emails, finds Read More
Read More
iPhone 4S reviews: What the web is saying
Calendar16 Wed, 12 Oct 2011 13:03:00 UTC +00:00
The iPhone 4S is due out Friday, Oct. 14, but already the early reviews are pouring in. They’re easy to sum up (people like it) but it’s also worth zooming in on some of the individual takes from the better reviews popping up around the web to get a sense of what exactly is and isn’t pleasing about Apple’s latest. David Pogue of the  says Siri, Apple’s new voice-powered virtual assistant, is so good it has demoted the on-screen keyboard to “a glorified Plan B,” but he also reveals some interesting tidbits about how much it owes to voice recognition software company Nuance: Apple won’t admit that it’s using a version of Dragon Dictation, the free iPhone app, but there doesn’t seem to be much doubt; it works and behaves identically. (For example, it occasionally seems to process your utterance but then types nothing at all, just as the Dragon app does.) Read More
It was a bit of a shock to learn yesterday that the terrific Siri app, now owned by Apple, will get pulled from the app store. It's being done, I'm sure, to encourage people to get the Siri technology built into the new iPhone 4S. Although an interview with the co-founder of Siri indicated that they had to cut some corners to get the app to work on "older" hardware. Still, it seems, shall we say, small of Apple to kill an app that seemed to work just fine, and did some of the tasks that the new incarnation of Siri will do on the iPhone 4S. One bright spot for those sticking with their current phones are the Dragon apps from Nuance. Dragon Dictation will take your voice and turn it into text for a note, an email, or a text message. Dragon Go!, which we have reviewed very positively, Read More

I have used a number of them with the original iPad and the iPad 2, and have no less than four that I would call current favorites. Nuance is known for its intelligent voice technology, and the company is actually in a partnership with Apple to supposedly work on bringing better voice integration to iOS. Nuance already has several productivity apps in the App Store, including Dragon Dictation. And their newest app brings the ultimate voice search experience to the iPhone. Hello, Dragon Go! Imagine – one app access to everything you want on the mobile web! That’s Dragon Go! You just say what you want and Dragon Go! not only hears what you say – it also understands what you want and gives you direct access to the best sites on the Mobile Web delivering what you want.” Few apps will save you more time than Dragon Go! Voice search is something that can be difficult to get right, but Nuance has once again proved that it knows how to create an excellent vocal-powered experience. I’ve previously Read More
When it comes to voice-powered search, there are plenty of options. Of course, Bing and Google have voice search as a built-in option and there are plenty of other apps specializing in all manner of specific queries. What makes Dragon Go a bit different is the fact that the new iPhone app often knows what to do with a specific query. Say “Play R.E.M.” and it opens Pandora. Say “buy tickets for Bridesmaids” and it will open Fandango. But say “Reviews for Bridesmaids” and it will open IMDB instead. Meanwhile, asking for a review of a restaurant should bring up Yelp while a query for reservations for that same restaurant polls OpenTable. Nuance, which created the free app, has built an open architecture aimed at including all manner of vertical queries. At launch it supports more than 180 options from the aforementioned sites to services such as Yelp, Wikipedia and Google. Read More

iOS 5: tracce del riconoscimento vocale Nuance? | Rumor
Calendar16 Sun, 12 Jun 2011 11:32:23 UTC +00:00
Come risulta dagli screenshot sono presenti opzioni quali “Mic on space key“, “Auto-Record Input” e “Nuance Dictation“. Questo lascerebbe presagire che Apple stia testando approfonditamente la tecnologia in questione e con essa la possibilità di aggiungere nuovi tasti alla Read More
Nuance Speech Recognition Expected in iOS 5
Calendar16 Sun, 12 Jun 2011 03:36:45 UTC +00:00
posted by Joe Rossignol on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 8:36 pm.   Thanks to some screenshots provided by ChronicWire on Twitter, in collaboration with Sonny Dickson, it was revealed that numerous references to Nuance’s speech recognition software are made in an internal build of iOS 5. These same references cannot be found in any current developer beta releases, or even in Apple’s SDK, but it’s very plausible that we could see this integration in the final release of iOS 5 next Fall. After all, it’s already been rumored that Apple has been negotiating a partnership with Nuance, primarily to integrate their speech-to-text functionality into iOS. If this is indeed true, we’re in for some really convenient functionality. Nuance’s speech recognition software in iOS 5 would mean that you could essentially speak to your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad and have this software dictate what you’re saying. For example, if you Read More

Will iOS 5 get integrated voice tech?
Calendar16 Tue, 29 Mar 2011 18:30:00 UTC +00:00
TechCrunch is reporting the rumor today, and some sources I have close to the Siri product think it is likely happening. Siri is that very cool personal assistant app. It allows you to ask questions that the app sends (as your voice data) to a server where it is recognized. The query is then sent off to a series of search engines to find an answer, which is finally returned to the user. You can ask for things like the best area pizza shop, the status of an arriving flight or the weather in Omaha. The speech recognition in the app comes from Nuance, the company that developed Dragon Dictation and Dragon Search. Last year, Apple bought Siri, and it seems likely that the tech will find its way into Apple products, especially iDevices. Siri is a very clever app, and it has always made a great demo on my iPhone. Read More

Le texte alors retourné Read More
The 30 Best iPhone Apps So Far This Year
Calendar16 Sat, 07 Aug 2010 18:12:54 UTC +00:00
Editor’s note: This guest post is written by Alex Ahlund, the former CEO and founder of AppVee and AndroidApps, which were acquired by mobile application directory Appolicious. About this time last year, he gave us his picks of the best iPhone apps of 2009 up until then, so we thought we’d make it an annual tradition. I’ve been involved in the iPhone app industry since it first began in 2008 and I have to say that it has come a long way. I’ve seen it grow from a meager launch of 500 applications in the App Store to currently over 225,000. In only two years, the industry has matured at hyperspeed. It spawned an entire ecosystem to support it from a multitude of news and editorial resources to developer engines, promotional services and ancillary niches. With over five billion app downloads and a billion dollars at stake, it’s no surprise that Read More
Dragon Dictation 2.0 sings along iOS4
Calendar16 Sat, 31 Jul 2010 12:49:26 UTC +00:00
Nuance Communications has recently updated its Dragon Dictation app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The newly released application, Dragon Dictation 2.0, is made to sing along iOS 4, making it easier to dictate messages and status updates on social networks. Using a new pop-up toolbar, you can speak a status update and then send it to Twitter, Facebook, text messaging app or the clipboard. There’s also the auto-save feature that automatically saves dictated text when the app is interrupted by an in-coming phone call. At the moment, Dragon Dictation 2.0 supports U.S. and U.K. English, and the plan is to include support for more languages in due course. From what we’re heard, German is next in line to get supported by the app with more languages to follow. Dragon Dictation 2.0 is a handy app which you’ll definitely use to take some rest from the on-screen keyboard. It’s available as Read More
Dragon Dictation 2.0 Now Live

Nuance Dragon Dictation 2.0 is now live in the App Store, and it leaves no reason for people to complain about the keyboard buttons being too small. The free app now has “a fun-yet-convenient pop-up toolbar with app icons that allow people to speak a status update and send it directly to Facebook or Twitter, or speak any text and send it directly to the text messaging client or clipboard – all without leaving the Dragon Dictation app client.” Also included in the app is a save feature that prevents you from losing your data when you get a phone call, iOS4 compatibility, and multilingual support (so far just US and UK English, with German coming this month). “Millions of people have downloaded Dragon Dictation for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and this latest Read More

All of my closest friends received very, very silly text messages from me yesterday, and each of those messages were 100% free of typos because I had sent them right from Dragon Dictation (free). The only strange thing was having to type my friends’ names out after having dictated an entire message to them, but that’s probably a limitation of iOS 4. The other big addition to this version of Dragon Dictation is Facebook and Twitter integration. I don’t use Facebook nearly enough to want to post to it with text-to-speech, but I did take a few seconds to spam my Twitter account with this amazing poem. Read More
Dragon Dictation is one of the most popular free apps on the iPhone and iPad, and now it has been updated to support iOS 4. Nuance Communications, creators of the app, have added a pop-up toolbar that allows you to speak a status update and send it directly to Facebook or Twitter. You can also speak and send the text to the clipboard. As in the original version, you can dictate emails and text messages. Another nice to feature is the app now saves your dictated text if you are interrupted by a phone call. This latest version also supports U.K English now, as well as German. The app already supports Spanish, Italian and French. I've had an advance copy of the app for a week, and I can confirm it works as advertised, although my high school German is a bit rusty so I didn't try that feature. Someday, I Read More

One district attorney's journey to iPad happiness
Calendar16 Fri, 21 May 2010 20:00:00 UTC +00:00
Let's face it. Apple and the legal profession have not always enjoyed a terribly close relationship. Since the advent of the word processor, being a lawyer practically required a PC. Lawyers' slavish dedication to Corel's Word Perfect, long after everybody else had stopped using it, is the stuff of legend. Database management programs were typically proprietary things, all requiring networks of PCs. Using a Mac in this environment required, at best, many workarounds, and, at worst, a separate PC to access various schedulers, run conflict checks and access documents. Recently, e-filing and the need to share and trade digital documents allowed for greater platform-independence. Macs, iPhones and now iPads claim their share of diehard legal adherents; you can get stories from the front lines of Apple integration in law from sites like The Mac Lawyer, MacAttorney, EsquireMac, the Disability Law Blog and the MacLaw mailing list. The legal world's growing acceptance Read More
iPad Keyboard Shortcuts
Calendar16 Wed, 12 May 2010 15:00:02 UTC +00:00
I was pretty excited to hear that the iPad supported a hardware keyboard. With my history in Unix, I’ve become pretty comfortable as a touch typist, enough so that there is no faster way to get words out of my head and into the text editor. My excitement was short-lived, however. Soon after receiving my Bluetooth Apple keyboard in the mail, I found that most of the keyboard shortcuts I was hoping for were not there. So, after trying every keyboard shortcut I could think of, here’s a rundown of all the shortcuts that work on the iPad. Luckily, all of the standard shortcuts for special characters still seem to work, like our beloved option – shift – k. If I’ve missed any shortcuts, please let me know in the comments! Apple’s keyboard dock has additional keys for locking the iPad, search, and home. I’m disappointed that those keys did not Read More

iPad apps: 1Password, Dragon Dictation & Tap Tap Radiation

Having reached a near overload status of iPad apps that have come available over the course of the past few days I wanted to try and avoid and individual post for each. Of course, the Kindle app was granted an exception, but moving forward there are a few that I still felt were worth mentioning. First up is 1Password (App Store link), and the good news here is short and sweet. Those who already have the iPhone version will be getting a free upgrade to the iPad version. And for those that have not purchased the app, the iPad version will be selling for $6.99. Which coincidentally is the same price as 1Password for the iPhone. On the other hand, 1Password Pro for the iPhone is slightly higher priced at $8.99. Next up is Dragon Dictation (App Store link), and that is a free app. Similar to the iPhone version of Read More

Speech to Text Inspired by innovation as the Nexus One does not have a physical keyboard, Google introduced Voice to Text capability for every text field you encounter. It replaces the “comma” character on the virtual keyboard and is very useful for writing long SMS text messages or emails. It works by recording you and sending the audio to Google for speech analysis. It is still experimental and not 100% accurate but pretty good. In a field test with an iPhone using Nuance’s Dragon Dictation app and Nexus One native Voice to Text; Dragon Dictation was triumphant with 100% accuracy every time while Google’s servers were about 97-99% accurate. Vlingo 2 adds more voice power to iPhone
Calendar16 Thu, 04 Mar 2010 05:15:00 UTC +00:00
In the burgeoning market for iPhone voice recognition apps, the free Dragon Dictate clearly holds the top spot. In fact, this paragraph was dictated using DragonDictate (with some minor edits after the fact). However, the application doesn't always shine when it comes to getting your text quickly and easily into different places where you might want to use it. You can send an e-mail or a text message if you want to, but you can't update your Facebook status or send a Twitter message without copying and pasting. Performing a search requires an entirely separate app. To make your dictation process easier -- at least when it comes to getting your text to go where you want, when you want -- there's the latest update to the Vlingo app, which we first reviewed last June. Vlingo 2.0 is trying to up the ante for text recognition by putting all the 'next Read More

12 “Wow Factor” iPhone apps [iPhone Applications]
Calendar16 Fri, 22 Jan 2010 15:23:15 UTC +00:00
There are plenty of jaw-droppingly cool iPhone apps, and we’ve assembled a few of them here on JAiB today. These aren’t necessarily the apps you’ll use every day, and they might not even be your favourites, but each of these apps is almost certain to elicit a “whaaaaat, did you just do that on your iPhone?!” from anyone you show them to. Google Maps, Street view ($200 – well, I’m just referencing the price of your iPhone) Let’s start the list off nice and easy. This is something amazing that the iPhone can do by default, and I’ve used it a few times to remember the name of a restaurant I ate at, when all I knew was which street I was on. Street view on the Google Maps app is almost unreal in how easy it makes “walking” down a street from the comfort of your couch a reality. Bump Read More

With well over 100,000 apps in the iPhone App Store now, it ‘s pretty rare to find that ‘there ‘s not an app for that ‘ when you think of things you need to do on the iPhone, or even in life in general.  It is common though to find many apps that offer to do the same thing, and to struggle to find the one or ones that work best for you and your own habits and preferences. Note-taking is an area where I think there are a number of good apps around “ but it ‘s also one where I have several that I have used but where I still haven ‘t found a good ‘groove ‘, a routine workflow that feels like an ideal way to do things. Three of the apps that I ‘ve spent quite a lot of time with are shown in the icons at Read More
Best free iPhone app: Dragon Dictation
Calendar16 Sat, 26 Dec 2009 01:35:28 UTC +00:00
For me, the best free iPhone app in the Apple App Store would have to be the Dragon Dictation iPhone app. The Dragon Dictation iPhone app allows you to speak in to your iPhone and have your speech converted to text. Your text can then be sent as a text message, E-mail, or pasted in to another iPhone application using the clipboard. Pros: Cons: I’ve been using the Dragon Dictation iPhone app for about a week now and have found it really helpful. I still type with my keyboard sometimes but whenever I  need to type an e-mail using this app saves me a lot of time. It really surprised me how accurate this iPhone app was. Check it out by clicking the download link below! Let us know how it works for you. Posted on Dec 25th, 2009 by Alex in iPhone Apps | 5 Comments Related posts: Read More

Dragon Launches A Powerful Voice-Powered Search App
Calendar16 Fri, 18 Dec 2009 02:23:15 UTC +00:00
Days after the blatant success of their voice recognition app Dragon Dictate, Dragon has launched another app featuring their own take on voice-powered search. It’s called Dragon Search, and lets you scour the web using your voice like no other app. Dragon Search uses Dragon’s powerful voice recognition engine to recognize what you’re searching for, and easily switches between Google, Wikipedia, Twitter, Youtube and even your own music library to find the answer. This is a great feature that you won’t find on big name search apps like Google mobile or Bing. It’s definitely refreshing to see a new player in this category and now that they fixed their privacy issues it’s a must-have. Read More

Just a few days ago, the voice recognition connoisseurs over at Nuance released Dragon Dictation, an iPhone app which would automatically transcribe your voice into text messages and emails. All was well and good at first; the response to the app was generally quite positive, and the app itself seemed to work pretty dang well. Soon after release, however, controversy was abound; someone stumbled across a section of the End User License Agreement which stipulated that the application would upload a list of your contacts to their server. Just like that, the paranoia train barreled out of the station. Word of the application’s seemingly loose lips hit the blogosphere, and it’s App Store ratings took the brunt of the hit. Of 6212 ratings, 2777 were one star (out of five). Of those who took the time to write why they gave it such a low rating, the very vast majority were Read More
Dragon Dictation Gets An Update, Fixes Privacy Issues
Calendar16 Wed, 16 Dec 2009 09:42:38 UTC +00:00
Indeed, as some of you noticed when it got published, Dragon Dictation had an unpleasant downside. The app would gather your contact names at its launch and upload them to Dragon’s server. The company answered the issue back, claiming this was done for improvement purposes and emphasized that they took a very good care of our data. It was still a little disturbing; however, I didn’t particularly mind myself, but it seemed to be a serious privacy issue for many users. Well, Dragon decided to address the issue and a just released a new update of the app. Thanks to this new upgrade you can not only prevent the app from uploading your contacts but also delete the previously uploaded ones from their servers. This news will definitely come as a relief to Tiger Woods. Read More

Dragon Dictation Sets Off Privacy Mix-Up
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Dec 2009 22:11:44 UTC +00:00
Earlier this week, when Nuance introduced its free Dragon Dictation software for the iPhone, which turns speech into text, it was met with an immediate backlash. The sore point was a line in the End User License Agreement (EULA) that alerted users that Nuance would upload the names from a phone’s contact list to its servers. “This app goes through your contact list and sends data back to their servers. This level of privacy breach should e [sic] made clear in the description, not just the EULA,” wrote a user with the screen name “Something Witty” in the iTunes customer reviews. Many similarly outraged posts appear on the site. But as you might expect from a company whose software listens to what people say, it has heard its customers and has clarified what contact data or the app collects and why. The app only uploads names, which it uses to improve Read More
Dragons and Dictation Software: How the Failure Continues
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Dec 2009 17:30:12 UTC +00:00
In late November, Gear Diary ran a short video sneak-peek of Dragon Dictation for the iPhone, an app that, like its big brother Mac and PC counterparts, converts spoken words into written text. The teaser video begins with the words “An app that will transform your iPhone usage.” It’s now available in the iTunes Store, and for a limited time, it’s free. But don’t rush to download it just yet. While this is not a review of the Dragon Dictation app, it is a cautionary tale to be skeptical of the hype. Because, unless you already have a very specific need for speech-to-text technology (subscription required), this app fails where all dictation software has failed before. In the early 90′s people started taking dictation software seriously, and developers dreamed of a not-too-distant Star Trek-inspired world in which our primary method of interaction with our computers would be via the spoken word. Ähnlich vielversprechend kündigt sich Read More

I may be dating myself here, but back when I was in grade school, there was this new piece of software from a company called Nuance that had the power to turn your speech into text. They called it “Dragon Dictate.” The technology sounded too good to be true. Could I really do my homework by skipping the keyboard and talking directly to my computer? Turned out, no, it didn’t really work well enough to do homework with. The software was slow and accuracy was nowhere near acceptable. That was then. Today, Dragon is back with better speech-to-text translation technology, and they’re giving away their Dragon Dictation iPhone app for free (iTunes link)! Dragon Dictation, as you can see from the video demo below, is much more accurate than what I remember using over a decade ago. And, I’d argue that the iPhone app is much more useful than desktop transcription Read More
Nuance Communications today announced the release of [App Store, Free for a limited time], a new voice transcription application for the iPhone. The application, which relies on the Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition engine to transcribe voice input to text, allows users to easily send transcribed text to new e-mail or text messages or save it to the clipboard for pasting into other applications. With the Dragon Dictation App, spoken words are instantly transcribed using the world-renowned power of Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition, giving anyone the power to simply "say anything" up to five times faster than typing. Dragon Dictation allows users to speak anything from a one-line text message or status update for Facebook, to a multi-paragraph e-mail. For instance, simply say, "We should meet at the restaurant at 7 and then go to the movies. I'll pick up Scott in Cupertino after he gets off work. See you then." Users Read More

Dragon Dictation Arrives For iPhone
Calendar16 Tue, 08 Dec 2009 14:51:25 UTC +00:00
Posted 12/08/2009 at 6:51am | by J.R. Bookwalter The creators of Dragon Naturally Speaking for PC (and its Mac version, MacSpeech Dictate) have brought their dictation magic to the iPhone, and it’s totally free for a limited time. Dragon Dictation is the debut iPhone app from developer Nuance Communications, promising easy-to-use voice recognition technology that allows you to easily speak and instantly see your text or e-mail messages. Nuance claims the app is 5 times faster than typing on the keyboard. The voice recognition technology is based on Nuance’s Windows-based Dragon Naturally Speaking. But rather than being tied to a desktop, Dragon Dictation allows you to dictate on the go, provided you have access to an Internet connection. Voice-to-text transcriptions may be sent as SMS, e-mail or pasted into any other iPhone application using the clipboard. A convenient editing feature provides a list of suggested words, and corrections are voice-driven. Among Read More
By Rene Ritchie, Tuesday, Dec 8, 2009 | Dragon Dictation [Free - iTunes link] brings the voice recognition and transcription technology behind Nuance’s well known Dragon Naturally Speaking to the iPhone (and iPod touch with mic attached. Apparently, per comments below, it won’t allow download to iPod touch (?!) ). Basically, you tap a button, say what you want to say — from a brief reminder note to long, flowing prose — and Dragon sucks it in and coverts it all to text. Nuance claims it’s 5 times faster than typing, and you can email or SMS the results, and of course to update Twitter or Facebook via copy and paste. There’s even a voice-controlled correction UI. Best of all, Dragon Dictation is free for a “limited time” — though it appears to be US-only at the moment (what, licensing problems, or don’t international users speak?) If you give it a Read More

Just recently added to the App Store was Dragon Dictation, and it appears to be a pretty nice speech to text app for the iPhone. To begin with, the app is powered by Dragon NaturallySpeaking and it is available as a free app. Of course that free does come with a catch or two. The price is just for a limited time and the app will self censor. So, if you tend to have a potty mouth then you can expect to see asteriks in place of letters in those words. Assuming you can deal with the censoring, which honestly should not be an issue for many people, then hit up the App Store and download this before the free goes away. As far as how the app works. Well, it seems simple enough — launch the app, press the record button and begin speaking. Then after you are done speaking, Read More

Put this into the 'I didn't think they could ever get this to work on an iPhone' category. I'm talking about Dragon Dictation [iTunes link] from Nuance, the developers of the very popular Dragon Naturally Speaking for the PC. Nuance also provides the speech recognition engine for MacSpeech Dictate on the Mac platform. To dictate on the iPhone you just launch the app, press the record button, and start talking. Your dictation can be a brief sentence, or a much longer treatise. Once the text has been created from your speech, it's possible to email it, send it as a text message, or put the result in your clipboard. After recording your message, you can edit the resulting text before you send it off for others to read. It's pretty slick! When you record your message, it is quickly transmitted to Nuance servers where a speech recognition algorithm is run against Read More

This app presents a lengthy EULA when you start it. I just wanted to take a quick look so I didn't read it completely. After you accept it seems to upload all of your contacts immediately. I see no way to remove this data from their server. I can't even go back to look at the agreement again. Uploading personal data is never acceptable without making it very clear what is happening first. That warning should be separate and specific.
Privacy Issues.
Something Witty... 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This app goes through your contact list and sends data back to their servers. This level of privacy breach should e made clear in the description, not just the EULA.
READ THE USER AGREEMENT!!!
sruckel 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Nuance uploads your contacts to their server and may transmit them to your carrier. I'm not sure name recognition accuracy is justification to have your complete address book. Fix this intrusion and I will trumpet the software. It is a great idea.
Don't do it if want your contact info to stay private
Tkrstorm 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
They take your contact information before you can use the software. Not worth it if you ask me. Very intrusive!
Beware!
RedRiderXX 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
The licensing agreement confirms that your contact list is uploaded to their servers to help with the dictation of your contacts names. That sounds like a load of baloney. I'm not sure why apple allows this sort of behavior. Everybody click on report a problem and tell Apple we want our privacy protected.
When will it be released for the iPod Touch?
biglar01 1.0 stars Version: 1.1.0
I'll be more than happy to change this review when it becomes available for the iPod Touch. I mean really, the Touch has email capability via WiFi and a mike on the headphones now along with voice memo. How difficult can it be to port this app to the Touch?
What do you want to read my contacts?!?
totallymystic 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Huh? Why is reading my contact information necessary, especially sending it.
Free at a cost... Your Privacy and everyone in your contact list as well.
iPhoneDuder 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Apple dropping the ball again with application approvals. Fail.
There is no breach of privacy!
DocRawk82 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
The app only uploads the NAMES from you contacts, not the numbers, email addresses, or anything else. It does this so that it will spell names correctly when you use them.
Works great, get over privacy paranoia
thundermustard 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.0
If you want an app that lets you dictate a long email with nary a mistake get this amazing app. It uploads your contact names only for help in getting names correct when you say them. Nothing more.
The next step in iPhone usability
grey_christ 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I have been waiting soooo loooooonnng for a decent voice-recognition app solely for the purpose of quickly dictating notes to be used in various apps (should be built-in IMHO..maybe next June). This is a great start, too (thankfully)! But I think if they were smart they'd add a way to collect user edits and use them heuristically to provide downloadable app improvements, in the same way Copilot does with map data. They could even use the location awareness functionality to fine-tune the database even further, zeroing in on local accents.
Great start, works fast, pretty accurate!
Kevad 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I am impressed, so far it is working fast and is mostly accurate. It has editing features built in to help correct errors. It seems to stop after a few sentences and displays dictation up to a point, and then you can pick up dictation again. You can copy to clipboard and paste into notes, or it will open an email or text message and insert the dictation. One issue I have seen is the emails I send to another iPhone have every other line only go about half way accross even though it looked fine in the message sent. Anyone else seeing this? Any work around, copying to clipboard & pasting into email did not fix it? Overall, very neat App, would give 5 Stars if they fix the line length issue.
Very impressed

I see this app as a blackberry killer because all of the business-oriented people are afraid to leave their blackberries because the iPhone doesn't have a keyboard. Well, this review was dictated in under a minute on an iPhone. Take that blackberry!
Great for dictation practice
Lifetime Photography 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I'm using this app now to write this comment. I think it's a great way to practice dictation skills, because that's the most difficult thing about using dictation program like this. If you don't have good dictation skills, you'll become very frustrated with dictation program like this. Wish there a way to delete text using dictation rather than stop button. Also would like a scratch that, start over feature.
Great App!
Mario Loco 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.0
This app is awesome. It is about time an app came out that has speech to text abilities. The app is simple to use and works flawlessly. Everyone made a big deal because contacts are uploaded to Drangon's server. If everyone would have read the EULA they woul have understood that contacts are used only for accurate spelling. Like I said before. This app works great and it is very accurate. I wrote this review using the app. So stop the with the complaining and get it. PS. It's free. Need I say more....
Excellent!

There is absolutely no reason that in the update for this app they couldn't have made it work on touches. I am glad to see they did the obvious fix and made uploading contacts optional, but why not the other optional fix to make it work on ipods too?
short sighted

No reason for it to not work on the iPod Touch. Just plain stupid limitation.

With optional contact data load, Dragon Diction is perfect!! I am impressed that Nuance Comm listened and responded so quickly with optional contact load; as well as delete. A quality company! Thanks Nuance!!
Awesome!
msproductions 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
The application's response, accuracy, & speed make this an awesome app. It even picks up curse words, however, it places a "*" in the middle of the word to edit it. The app also has a few editing features like - suggested wird replacement & the sbility to use the keyboard if necessary. The abiity to also export the text to SMS, really makes this app a winner. The only real issue I ran into was the inability to literally spell out words or to state initials, for example. ("T - A - B") ~Matt (TiPAb)

Thanks to the reviewers who pointed out that your contacts are captured and stored when you use this application. This is not in any way acceptable. Even if you have no concern for your own privacy, you have an obligation to those on your list. One of them might be me.
