If applications are the best part of your mobile device, you probably love when we bring you some of our favorites. We are back this week with a few more, so let's hit the break and check them out! If you're using Dropbox on your PC, Mac or on the web, you should also consider picking up the excellent Android app. It's just been updated with a new automatic camera upload feature, which works similarly to Instant Upload on Google+. Just choose whether you want to use cellular data or Wifi only, and you're good to go. Pictures, videos or screenshots taken on your phone will immediately be pushed to the "Camera Uploads" folder in your Dropbox. As it's still in beta, you'll earn an extra 500MB of storage for every 500MB of camera content you upload. Aside from that, you can access everything in your Dropbox right from your Android Read More

An alteration made for the latest 2.0 version of the Dropbox app for Android in order to better comply with the rules of the operating system resulted in the removal of some features that, in the 1.x versions, users had come to rely upon. As a result, Dropbox team members these past few weeks have found themselves in damage control mode, as they work to stem a rising tide of frustration from users, some of whom aren't yet buying the company's message that these changes were necessary. The biggest change the new version makes is to the storage locations for files downloaded from users' Dropbox storage areas to their phones. One is the cache for files that may be useful on the phone, like pictures and music. Another is for documents that may then be opened up in apps on the phone, like the QuickOffice productivity suite or the KeePassDroid password Read More
Having previously slipped a preview of the Dropbox update with optimizations for Ice Cream Sandwich, we all knew it was coming but we didn't know when, exactly. As it turns out, the latest update for Dropbox is now available in the Android Market and ready to be downloaded. Aside from the new UI and Ice Cream Sandwich optimizations, Dropbox has a few other tricks built in: Whether you're a hardcore Dropbox user or just a casual user, this update is one not to skip over. You'll find some more screenshots and the download link past the break for you all.   Read More

Dropbox, arguably one of the best file storage/sharing services around, recently released the new beta version of their app for Android, making it even easier to access files on the go that may otherwise be spread across several devices.     Besides bug fixes, the new beta includes the ability to store "favorite" files for quick offline viewing, bulk upload for multiple photos and videos, renaming of files and folders, upload from and export to local storage, and last but not least, a hugely improved UI which includes a more appealing gallery view and quick, one-tap access to file options. With these improvements in tow, Dropbox's app for Android is looking great, and, if you're a Dropbox user, there's no reason not to grab the new beta from the Dropbox forum and give it a try. Dropbox is a must for anyone who wants to use a tablet as a productivity tool, making access to documents, photos and other files between computers and mobile devices a snap. You’ll also need the Dropbox desktop program, but once you pop open the Dropbox app, you get a clean interface of folders and documents. It’s a great way to share music or photos on your device without wasting hard drive space. The Dropbox service is free, with more space available if you’re willing to pay. You might need other apps like Quick Office Pro to really take advantage of documents, but just having a conduit between your tablet and your computer is handy. If you’re looking to make your tablet into a work tool – or just need some additional space and a way to transfer files – Dropbox is among the simplest and quickest methods you’ll find. Read More

You might have your own favorite Android smartphone apps. But if you are a bit confused with all the different apps available this year, you can check out our list of 15 of the most useful ones. The Android Market may not have as many apps as the iPhone App Store yet, but there are still more than enough to be overwhelmed, and it continues to grow at a breakneck pace. To help you sort through them all, here is my latest list of the 20 most useful Android apps (this is an update of my 2010 Android list). I’ve also recently updated my list of the most useful iPhone apps and you’ll notice several of the same apps on both lists. Remember that I primarily had business professionals in mind when making this list and also keep in mind that this is a snapshot in time. The Android platform is developing so quickly that I guarantee my home screen will look different a month from now. Still, here’s my list of tried-and-true Android apps that I can highly recommend. The situation might remain imperfect, but we've sifted through the best software available for Android tablets, saving you time and potentially wasted money. A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about my first experiences with the Galaxy Tab 10.1. I noted that while its hardware is excellent, there’s a distinct shortage of tablet apps for Android. Most apps will work just fine, but they’ll make poor use of a tablet’s screen real estate. But things are definitely improving. New apps are coming out daily. I’ve tried quite a few of them, and I thought I’d do a quick rundown of the apps I’m actually using on a daily basis. Feedly turns RSS feeds into a stunning digital magazine. You can use your own feeds (through Google Reader), or use the excellent default selection. It also interfaces with Read It Later and Bit.ly. I love the clean layout, and greatly prefer it over the Samsung-supplied Pulse reader. Highly recommended for keeping up to date with the news. One thing I noticed while using my tablet Read More

13 Android apps for mobile journalists - TNW Apps
Calendar16 Fri, 05 Aug 2011 16:15:01 UTC +00:00
Contrary to popular belief, the 21st century journalist isn’t all that different to the hacks of days gone by. The skills required today are broadly similar to what was needed 50 years ago – they must have meticulous attention to detail, leave no stone unturned as they strive to unravel the truth behind a story. And above all else, they must be ethically-inclined…in theory, at least. But the tools of the trade today are very different. Out is the payphone and little black book of contacts, and in is the Twitter account, smartphone and other gadgets that can transform a simple hack into an editor, reporter, cameraman, photographer…and whatever else may be required to submit a story. And in a week it was revealed that Android has almost half of the total smartphone market sewn up, here’s a look at a handful of Android apps that can help journalists harness the Read More

After resisting the check-in services as long as I could, I found myself gravitating to Gowalla. I immediately fell in love with the overall design with its clean, colorful graphics and easy-to-learn interface. The recently refreshed UI makes it a breeze to check-in, manage my account, track friends, and browse collected items. One of my favorite aspects in Gowalla comes in picking up items whenever I check in. Be it a pair of sneakers, a movie reel, or office stationary, it's fun to get a little reward for going out. I like leaving items behind for others to find almost as much as I enjoy reading the history of items in my pack. Aside from individual check-ins, Gowalla has created a number of trips for you completionist-types. Rather than hitting up one memorial at the park, see if you grab the entire series! One of the things I like best about my smartphone is Dropbox, a cloud-based storage service that lets me save and share documents and files across multiple devices and even with multiple people. It’s a great way to start working on a file from my PC and pick it up later on one of several other devices, including Android smartphones and tablets and the iPhone and iPad. But while the service is convenient, it also needs to be really secure. Dropbox makes a point to promote that security among its users and potential customers, but yesterday, a bug in the Dropbox software caused the system to disregard passwords for about four hours. If you knew another user’s email address, theoretically, you could access anything they’d saved into their cloud storage space. TechCrunch has the story, which details that it was during a code update that Dropbox sent to its software that Read More

The DropBox Android App by DropBox, Inc. is an app that allows you to any of the files you need with you at all times. A DropBox account (which is free to create) is required for this app. Any files, pictures, documents, movies, ROM’s etc. can be taken on the go with you no matter where you go! After the free DropBox account is created and you upload the necessary files to DropBox they will become available on the DropBox website, your android device, and all the computers you have registered with your DropBox account. The DropBox is essentially just that, a box that you can drop all of your files in. Those files will be synced to the DropBox website, your device and any of the computers you have registered. You can also provide the access information to other people so they may access your DropBox as well. This is Read More

Among the growing list of services dedicated to syncing and storing your files in the cloud, there are two that consistently register as top dogs: Dropbox and SugarSync. Both offer comprehensive (and different) suites of syncing and sharing tools, both have their benefits and drawbacks, and both offer free Android apps. Let's take a look at what each of these apps offers in the way of mobile file-syncing. When looking at a mobile application as an extension of a greater program or service, there are a few things it's important to keep in mind. First, how well does the app perform its core functions? Second, how does it take advantage of mobile-specific tools and contexts? And third, is it stable and secure in a mobile environment? Considering these criteria and others, let's see what each of our two subjects brings to the table. For the well-connected among us, it's also great Read More

Inadequate security measures gave potential hackers access to private user data on Skype’s Android app, emphasizing Skype’s shortcomings, as well as Google’s. Less than a week later, Skype’s updated its Android app, and added 3G calls as a bonus feature. The White House also made things official with a new Android release. Skype has pushed through a swift update for its Android app, addressing the security loophole that recently landed the VoIP provider in hot water. The Android operating system has been growing into a popular tablet platform. It hasn’t hit the sales numbers that Apple’s iPad has reached yet, but the momentum is building rapidly. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Motorola Xoom have enjoyed a measure of success, and future tablet devices from other manufacturers are soon to follow. Previously, I wrote an article on sysadmins using an Android device in place of a laptop for technical work. This time I would like to explore the workplace side of things, and see how Android can benefit the average office worker. The Android platform is well-suited to the workplace. The Web is flush with Android applications that sound great, but don't necessarily deliver. Some of these apps cost a few dollars and offer functionality provided for free via other applications. The challenge is finding free Android applications that perform as well, or better, than their paid counterparts. That's where I come in, as I constantly comb the Android Market and third-party app stores for the best free downloads available. This latest installment is one you won't want to miss. Why? iPhone apps, Android apps, BlackBerry apps, Windows Mobile apps and Web browser apps. It seems our digital lives are surrounded and shaped by apps! Last year, in December, our very own Brad McCarty pondered on the day when web apps would replace web sites. He writes that at a time when so much of what we do is going mobile, going cloud-based and becoming accessible regardless of location, there are aspects to the application format that have to be given due attention. Kate O’Neill, Founder and CEO of [meta]marketer states, “It’s a very context-driven experience. While it could be very good, it could also be very onerous for site owners to keep up with. The question is how much value is it providing to the business of the website.” Four months later, the chatter has continued regarding the rise of web apps, and developers are looking for even more ways to augment Read More
In last weekend's (non-)poll, I asked for your three favorite Android apps. You did your part, and nearly 100 people took the opportunity to vote. Now it's my turn, so I've compiled the results and I'll list them below along with details and a brief description of each app.   Given just how not-so-attractive Android 2.2 and below is, it's not really surprising that a launcher should take the top spot. What is a bit more surprising - at least to me - is that it really dominated ADW (which came in second, below) with more than twice as many votes. LP allows you to fine-tune the appearance and behavior of your device. Thanks to its popularity, there are hundreds of themes available, and in conjunction with widgets and other customization apps, the possibilities are nearly endless. 1. Launcher Pro (+ Plus) - 20 Votes    Again, in a nutshell: because Read More

Finding stellar Android apps isn't the easiest task, but that certainly doesn't mean they don't exist. Here's the cream of the crop. Twitter: The official Twitter app is good enough for almost everyone. Along with giving you a clean, easy way to keep track of your timeline and updating your status, Twitter for Android also has a snazzy swipe down to refresh feature. Free. Facebook: Facebook is finally decent on Android and now actually brings some unique features, namely the front page side-scroll of friend's recent photos and a pull up notification window. Free. Google+: It's Google's big soiree into social "sharing". The app has it all: a stream that shows what your friends are talking about (like Facebook), Huddle which is an easy to set up group chats (like GroupMe) and will even automatically upload the pictures you take on your phone to the cloud (like iCloud). Once you get Read More

Dropbox users, listen up. Today, the company released an off-Market beta version of the Android app that finally fixes a runaway always-on background service, adds Apps2SD support, and fixes a bunch of other bugs. As far as I can tell, the background service was introduced to allow uploading of files even if the app is closed, except a buggy implementation never shut the service down. In the new release, files are properly uploaded in the background, after which the service correctly shuts down. Dropbox Android App Review - Make Tech Easier
Calendar16 Thu, 07 Oct 2010 18:25:20 UTC +00:00
In my previous Dropbox article, I highlighted that Dropbox had released apps for the Android, iOS and Blackberry platforms. These enabled Dropbox users to access their data while on the move. However, the apps, especially the Android one, was very much in its infancy and there were a lot of basic functions that it lacked. Dropbox has recently updated its Android app and I thought it was a good time to review the app. After installing and launching the app you will land on the start page. Here you can choose to login or set-up a new account. Once you have logged in you will be presented with the list of folders that are in your Dropbox account. Browsing these folders is just like browsing the folders in the Dropbox folder in your home computer or through the web browser. You can click on any folder to browse the files inside. Read More
Your Android is supposed to keep you instantly connected to your digital life. It can do that, but it needs some help. These best-of-class applications make sending files, syncing music, swapping web sites, and other phone-computer hook-ups so much easier. Even though Android allows for removable SD card storage, and is a lot more open than the iPhone when it comes to file storage, very few people carry a USB cable or micro-SD converter card everywhere they go. Nor should they, since these apps make it easier to send files and ideas between two different screen sizes. After you install Dropbox on your various laptop and desktop systems, then add the Android app to your phone, you'll occasionally wonder why USB cables still exist. Simply place a file in your Dropbox folder (or elsewhere on your system), and it shows up on your phone. Dropbox on Android also comes with built-in Read More

One of the great things about Android is that all of your phone numbers and app purchases are automatically backed up - they're synced to your gmail account. This means that whenever an update to a newer version of Android is sent out to your phone, your contacts and apps will be saved. However things like photos, videos, MMS messages and MP3's will normally be wiped by an update, that is unless you've backed them up to your phone's microSD card or to a remote server. The HTC Hero is due to receive its update to Android 2.1 over the next few days and Android phones running 2.1 (Nexus One, HTC Desire, HTC Legend) are due an update to 2.2/Froyo in the near future. Anyway, here’s what they got: Of course, Verizon also used the opportunity to remind us they offer not less than 5 Android smartphones, including the DROID by Motorola, by HTC, Motorola DEVOUR, by HTC and LG Ally… Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry. Almost everyone has to manage multiple devices in their day-to-day lives. Desktops, laptops, tablets and handsets are the usual suspects, each with its own purpose. With such an array of hardware, staying organized can be problematic. These Android apps will help streamline the digital media and services you use daily right to your phone so you can use your Android as the center of your multi-platform lifestyle.  The poster child for sync service finally released its Android app. Dropbox lets you create a folder, with up to 2 GB of space for the free version, and share it with all your Web-enabled devices. It manages this by uploading all of the files in your shared folder to the cloud. This allows you to access your files simply by logging into the Dropbox website, without even needing to download the app, which is good for those times when you're on a machine you don't Read More

The latter is most important: application developers on the Android and iPhone OS platforms will now be able to integrate Dropbox into their applications, allowing for effortless syncing from third-party apps like QuickOffice, GoodReader, and Fuze Meeting to your desktop. Dropbox Gets Mobile API, Android and iPad Clients
Calendar16 Thu, 06 May 2010 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
The team at file-sharing, syncing and storage service Dropbox have unveiled new native clients for Android and the iPad to complement the existing iPhone app. The Android client has been available as a beta for a few months now — Kevin over at jkOnTheRun liked it when he took it for a test drive. A BlackBerry client was also announced, which will be released “quite soon.” The company also announced a new API, “Dropbox Anywhere,” that will enable developers to integrate Dropbox’s functionality into their own mobile apps. This is significant in that it proposes to make it easier for developers to get documents onto and off of mobile devices like the iPad, replacing clunky workarounds like having to email files to yourself. You can expect to see more cloud sharing/storage functionality popping up in your mobile apps soon (and if you’re interested in cloud computing, check out our Structure conference Read More
By: Clint Boulton 2010-05-06 Article Rating: / 3 Cloud file storage startup Dropbox broadened its reach May 4 by adding support for Google's Android, Apple's iPad and Research In Motion's BlackBerry mobile platforms. Dropbox already supports Apple's iPhone. The latest offering is couched in Dropbox Anywhere, new mobile apps and APIs geared to help users access their files on most computing devices or mobile applications. Anywhere provides native support for accessing, viewing and sharing documents and files stored in Dropbox directly from Android and BlackBerry smartphones, as well as Apple's popular iPad tablet. Dropbox is tailored to match each of the devices. For example, users may capture, upload and share photos and video on Android, or enjoy a full-screen reading experience on the iPad tablet, which has sold more than 1 million units in less than a month. ReadWriteWeb has a glowing report on Dropbox for the iPad here. Dropbox for Android and Read More
If you don't have Dropbox yet, where have you been? We've raved about this awesome cloud-based storage service before, and now Dropbox's mobile offerings are expanding in a big way. The Dropbox Mobile API was just released, along with apps for Android and iPad. This new push is called Dropbox Anywhere, and it's great news for users. With the new mobile API, developers will be able to write apps that access your Dropbox files, meaning you won't have to keep the files stored on your mobile device. Sure, you can complain that Dropbox doesn't have apps for enough devices yet, or that there's no automatic syncing for the Android app, but what Dropbox has built so far is a pretty big deal, and it's still a work in progress. Blackberry users, take note: a Dropbox app is coming to your device soon (probably this summer!). Read More
Online storage service Dropbox this week released a new set of mobile apps and an API. The offering, dubbed Dropbox Anywhere, will allow users to access their files on more smartphones and allow developers to create apps that access Dropbox content. Users can now access Dropbox data on the iPad and Android-based phones. Android devices, Dropbox said, will let users capture, upload, and share photos and video on Android, while the iPad will provide a full screen reading experience, the company said. All data will be synched between devices. The iPad and Android app, as well as the existing iPhone app, are available for download now at dropbox.com/anywhere. A BlackBerry app is expected this summer. The API, meanwhile, will let developers create apps that access the content of Dropbox users' accounts. More information is available at developers.dropbox.com. "With the innovation and growth in mobile computing, the industry is shifting from a Read More
Dropbox is getting more serious about its efforts to bring its cloud storage solution to mobile devices. On Tuesday the company is announcing a mobile API for developers to build ties to Dropbox's servers into their own apps, as well as formally launching first-party applications for the iPad and Android and BlackBerry devices. The new mobile API is something Dropbox is calling "Dropbox Anywhere." The company has worked with a number of developers to integrate their apps into the new data pipeline. These include Fuze's FuzeMeeting app, Dictamus, Air Sharing, GoodReader, QuickOffice and Sprite Mobile's backup tool. All of these apps are able to tap into a user's Dropbox storage to fetch data, and save it back without needing to use any of that device's local data. Now any developer will be able to do the same with their own mobile software. Competitor Box.net rolled out something very similar back in Read More
Dropbox has been in the lucky hands of a few beta users for a few weeks, but the app is now available for general consumption. Dropbox has been uploaded into the Android Market, the latest among a slew of syncing solutions for desktops, mobiles, and cloud-stored content. Dropbox is a service that syncs content between multiple devices. It offers up to 2GB’s of storage for your documents, photos, music, or other files (more space is available for paid upgrades). Text documents can be edited from within the app and changes are reflected on all devices since they all sync to the cloud-based Dropbox. Other important features include: Download the app in the Android Market. Beta users should delete the beta version before installing the app from the Market. To uninstall, take the following steps: Read More

This is a good app, but... why is it so basic? What it does it does well but... Where is folder syncing so I can automatically upload photos from my phone camera to the cloud? I have a finance app that automatically makes a backup of its data to the SD card every night, why can't Dropbox automatically upload this and save me from remembering to do it each morning? Why can't I multi-select files to download instead of selecting them one by one? Lots of people have been asking for these features for a long time...

If you use third party apps on your mobile device to edit files in your Dropbox folder ONLY ACCESS THE FILES BY FIRST OPENING DROPBOX or they WILL NOT UPLOAD. Also, after you save, MAKE SURE IT UPLOADS SUCCESSFULLY, which it does not always do. Also, any time you open a file, even if you make no changes and don't save, Dropbox will upload it as the newest version when you close, so be careful not to overwrite the real latest version. It doesn't automatically sync files that have changed, and there is no manual sync button. I shouldn't have to open the file from within dropbox in order to get it to notice a change, nor should I have to go through a ridiculous song and dance to get the file synced if I do change it externally. Dropsync is much better. The free version is limited but at least has the functionality that you would expect.

I was trying to find a simple solution to sync my android phone, tablet, and computer and this solved my problem. I was skeptical about it because it only gives you 2gigs of space for free but i only use it sync documents and that goes a long way. It also syncs very fast! As soon as i upload it on my tablet, its avail on my phone and computer!
miki 1.0 stars
Original Dropbox on PC is so great! Full automatic 2-way sync in the background And that's why I am so puzzled that this Android app is so limited - just syncs the LIST of the folders and files, but none of the files themselves. Any download or upload - becomes a manual operation for each file.... Developer, please provide same performance as the PC version (with a switch allowing conditions for auto-sync - e.g. sync only on wifi, or 3G when not roaming, etc.)

James 0.0 stars
I've been using this new version as a beta for a few weeks. The camera upload feature is really convenient. I don't see what the problem is with the Account permissions. It lets android keep track of your Dropbox credentials, the same way it does with g+, fb, linkedin, yahoo, twitter, email.... Why would we be OK giving this permission to every social networking site under the sun, but not to Dropbox? On another note, I would love to have 2-way sync (with selective sync) like the desktop version.
Doron G 0.0 stars
The best cloud service out there. Syncing with multiple devices and computers is just great. The old interface was better, and rhe new file location for offline files is way to annoying to get to with a file explorer. But overall, this is a great app

This app is brill, better than box & others out there. Only drawback is it gets gets really expensive if you need more storage than is required on free. Still 5 stars despite new permissions, I think people are over reacting rating this awesome app 1 star over this.

I was always a dropbox fan, even more impressed now. There was a small bug that I was finding uploading pics. I emailed them feedback, 1 week later they introduced a new update and the bug was fixed. Keep up the good work dropbox team Great work!
Ryan 0.0 stars
Metaphorically speaking of course. I'm one of the lucky few who managed to be a part of the beta testers and hopefully I'd still be able to gain the 5GB extra space allotted for those who used the beta builds. I've upgraded to the official build now but I've noticed that while waiting for wifi, the counter stopped at 1910 photos left. I have around 3500 photos on my DCIM folder and was wondering if this was just a bug. I've only got one suggestion as of the moment and that is to include an auto-delete option for photos already uploaded to Dropbox. For those who are moaning about the lack of store to SD option: dropbox is a freemium service and if you're not buying their paid plans, quit whining and buy a new phone. Technology moves at an astonishing speed and either you keep up or bear the consequences of buying phones with limited internal storage.
Brett 0.0 stars
You people have no idea what the permissions are asking for. Nothing serious. I use Box and Dropbox. You don't have to choose. Box has a 25MB file size limit though so I have to archive everything before uploading. ~15GB and no file size limit plus a better app makes dropbox more useful than Box for my uses.
fortinj1354 0.0 stars
If people read the "what's new" they would understand both the removal of app to sd and the new permissions. Don't get mad at them for protecting your account better.

Had to remove it as it blocks up the phone memory and wont move to the sd card. Plus nothing special here either, Evernote seems better to me and i will also try Catch notes as that seems better too, at least they sit in the SD card memory and don't block up my phone memory....... unlike Dropbox! My recommendation is DROP Dropbox!

GGRRR... SNARL.... I opened this app after the latest update & it immediately asked some unclear question about allowing something. Zero info was given about what it meant. I clicked OK, assuming it was a setting which I could turn off later once I'd had a chance to browse the menus. Immediately it starts uploading my personal photos to Dropbox. NO WAY TO CANCEL. And we all know about their FLAWED SECURITY (Google it). Now I have to waste time figuring out how to get my photos off their f-ing website. B'STARDS. ((And to the "idiot" bashers here : Yes, I know Auto-upload can be turned off. But the feature needs to be CLEARLY EXPLAINED within the app, rather than being set-up to hood-wink you into accepting it the moment you open the app after the update. Get it? And why no Cancel Upload option, once it has started? This smells as bad as the privacy fiasco caused when Google tried to force "Buzz" upon all its Gmail users)).

Take off the tinfoil hat people! All the new privileges do is add dropbox to the list of apps in the settings> accounts&sync> manage accounts section and allow you to manage its settings there and set up camera upload. Oh and self start on boot. It's not rocket science guys! If anything google need to tone down the drama on the privilage explanations and stop scaring us into refusing to update great apps!
Praeus 0.0 stars
They explain the permission and it only gives them access to accounts they create. Stupid people who complain about permissions without understanding them are as bad as spammers. It would be nice if the new feature were optional and you could still move to sd and lose it, like a widget. But I still like the app anyway.

adds key functionality of photo auto-update! People - this is a major for-profit developer...they have no reason to misuse account info, really much less than Facebook, which appears to also store credentials the same way. The PR people did a lousy job explaining technically why they need these permissions, but it appears Dropbox actually improves the security of your account with this new method by transmitting only a temporary "token", not your actual password.

I can not believe some of the reviews on here. This is the most useful app I have. It's Brilliant. All my files at hand, wherever I am. Please allow full folder download in future release, and maybe auto upload for other folders on SD Card. Loving the new the auto upload feature, great way to back up precious photos. To all you haters, get a life, then use Dropbox to back it up! Only downside, no more move to SD Card.

Permission not a problem - they can only access their own. However, now too big without app2sd. You can disable automatic upload to avoid service in background. Files now in android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch

Can't view agreement and shady permissions I would not upload anything you don't want other people to see.I have a feeling the permissions are this way because of the pressure the Gestapo aka FBI is putting on all of these internet sharing and storage sights.

Excellent app but need few improvements. You cannot invite collaborators to share files from the mobile app. Also need space improvement because the other software box gives 50Gb for the free edition.

This app would definitely get 5 stars from me if the ability to upload folders was added. It would be nice if I could upload my nandroid backup folder to Dropbox without either uploading to my laptop or having to select the individual files, which there are sooo many files in a backup.

I've found sharing data with my contacts extremely easy. Public folders open access to the world. Plugins are showing up to enable automatic storage and sharing. When I didn't have a transfer cable for my cellphone, dropbox filled the gap between phone and computer.

Even with camera upload feature turned off, the app is suddenly the most memory intensive on my phone by a factor of 10: 3gb last month and 1gb in last week- nearly all in uploading. The only thing I don't like about Dropbox is that you can't have multiple users' icons on one computer. You have to go through their website & log in if a user has already established an account on a specific machine. Even with that said, I give Dropbox A "5". It's a great product!

Where did the download file option go?? It was very useful for transferring files to the actual folder. What is wrong with you leaving out an essential function? 2 stars off until fixed. Instead of adding ability to download a folder you took away the ability to download even single files..

Few Issues: It alters the file name of photos/videos when uploading. This is big inconvience as photos on phone and dropbox become out of sync with name. -Need 2 way sync and not just upload. I've had to change my rating from 5 to 1 star, as the latest update to this app gave me an unexpected "low on space" warning. WTF Dropbox? I relied on this app for work, but now I will move all my business to a competitor. I don't give a crap about theirdecision to link it to Android accounts, or the camera upload feature (I've got other apps with the same feature). I've got the HTC Desire which has a tiny HDD, and have to choose apps based on the space they take. If a rooted device can't move it to SD...

Its one of the best online storage services I've used. I love it on Windows, works great on Android and I can access my data whenever, They have done many new updates to the android app recently and its GREAT! They have added auto camera upload and starred items, recent uploads and a passcode, along with other things.... I must use this app every other day if not everyday, even if its only to send a file to my pc, or a mate. If you require more storage, invite people like i did, or pay for it. I feel thats fair terms (aimed at haters in other reviews) because online totally safe backup storage solutions can be expensive to setup and maintain. I absolutely LOVE my Dropbox. I only have one printer in the house, and for some reason, which I don't sit and feel like messing around with, I cannot share that printer on the network. So the desktop has a Dropbox, in which I shared a folder with my account I have for my notebook, so when I need to print something, I have a dropbox folder that I drop it into, and when I get around to it, I go to the desktop and just print them off. Quick, simple and EASIER & less headache then sitting and figuring out a connectivity issue with the printer and/or network. The Android App is great because I keep most files in PDF format, and I can just simply open the PDF on my phone and get what I need from it.

A wonderful way of storing all your files. They are always available on any computer, and always backed up at that. So, when you decide to re-format your computer, or buy a new one, there is nothing you need do. They are all accessible on your new computer right away. One of the best things that happened to me. Also not able to load entire folder. The 2nd is on the computer interface there is no multi user login. Other then this I still give it 5 stars because it's easy to use, simple and clean. The concept should have been out years ago!

I am SO glad I found this app!! I love it! I definitely highly recommend it! I think it's easier than iCloud by far! I personally like Android better than iPhone by a landslide anyways! Also, I can pick the whole album if I want...but that may just be my phone, but I can do it. Great job!

Good but needs to allow for entire folders to be marked as favourites and therefore automatically be available offline.
Richard 2.0 stars
Why can't you export an entire folder to your SD card? Dropbox you have failed me.
Michael 2.0 stars
Why would anyone create an app like this and leave out the option to move and organize files and folders within the app. Oh yea, who wants to select every freaking file to upload individually. Come on, folder upload is a must.

Only two things missing. True Syncing (even complete folder syncing would be nice. at the moment you need to select every file) and if we can get a comment system like google docs or box. then it woll be perfect.

Undoubtedly Dropbox is the best cloud service there is. Take a photo in France and it appears on your PC in the UK. Brilliant! But with Skydive now offering the same service but with 25Gb(!!), Dropbox is looking a bit limited and vastly over-priced. I'd prefer to stay with Dropbox, but they need to up there game.

Dropbox has so far been THE best app on the market. Very intuitive interface and it always just plain works. I've used it more than Asus own webstorage simply because it works better than anything else out there. I'm writing a book and have the Word Document saved in Dropbox, it allows me to have access and modify it no matter what device I'm on. My job also requires me to take pictures for an online reports. With this app I take pics on my phone and when I file my report on my laptop or tablet, the pics are waiting for me in my Dropbox folder. Excellent!!

I adore Dropbox! And with the latest image storage options, I was able to keep all my photos even though my phone died.

I use dropbox for so much, mobile upload, sharing pictures and videos with out of state family, sharing files with coworkers. So far I've earned 68.5gb of free space inviting others and by installing on my Samsung Galaxy tablet. Must have app!

and now on my droid. Superb for uploading pictures, so that the memory doesn't klog up. Only issue so far. It can't find your pics that's already on your phone, only new snaps. However, you can manually upload those. Don't like the "autostart" when turning phone on. But other than that, it's one of the best "sync/cloud" aps out there.

In the future, but at this point Google Drive is no match for Dropbox...

Hate the export option. Save and sync per default to the root sd and dropbox folder for better manipulation of files and sync.

Use it constantly. Now if we could simply & quickly move files from one folder to another from within the app, I'd be thoroughly satisfied.

Signing in into my Drop box account on the mobile app has a weird affect on my gallery app and Picasa. When logged into this app I lose the function of selecting a specific folder to upload to in my Picasa account. If remove the drop box account, the function comes back! Something is up, and I blame the new drop box application. Previous versions didn't create this issue with sharing on to Picasa.

With this app it is on my pc, my phone, and my iPad that it can save your life in a school or work. I one time I forgot my notes for exam with Dropbox it help me to study to get an "A" and forgetting to print at home no worries it is on dropbox. With all my school notes on dropbox no worries on losing files if as a joke my house as burned down with every computer or tablet I can still save my important school things and others with easy use. And even updates my school work with backup on past work too.

Awesome app. There's one drawback though and that is selecting all files at once. For example I have 500 photos so its gonna take me ages to select them all. Please introduce this feature where we can select all files at once to upload.

All I wanted was a temp. storage-space for my 2G Micro-SD-Card data(photo's, ringtones, wallpapers, app's, etc.)So, that I could switch cards's(32G will hold so much more... Music?)But, it's seriously been over 20-minutes, and this stupid app is STILL uploading my photo's! 108 left to go? Woo-Hoo! I honestly had everything uploaded to my PC w/in seconds. But, getting said data back to my phone w/new sd-card??? Not happening. WTF

Been using Dropbox for a few years now. It has lived up to its initial promise of cloud storage and ease of access; updates have not diminished the functionality of the software as is too often the case. Consequently, I am exclusively a Dropbox user and couldn't be more satisfied.

Why does dropbox keep signing me out? That leads to camera upload not working automatically. Also, I think if passlock is enabled, this also breaks the auto camera upload. Where did the local folder on SDCARD go?

It was working perfectly before the (now 2) updates ago, now when I go into my settings and click the accounts & sync it just restarts my phone (LG Shine Plus, 2.1). Incredibly annoying, uninstalled it again, and once again phone was back to normal, will reinstall if the next update fixes it. Please FIX!!! EDIT: Finally allows me to go into my settings now and do my syncing like normal. Thanks for the fix. App is pretty great and think I'll stay with dropbox instead of Google Drive due to all the privacy concerns.

Not only can I access files easily, but the interface allows text editing for ppt files. I use this app more than any other on my devices to access work and school documents and study on the go. Thank you drop box!!

I don't think my first experience with Palm, when it first started, have I employed a tool that I thought would have one use and turns out to have numerous. Dropbox has become my operating system. Everything else is just a window into it. Could it be better? Sure, and it will be. Are there competitors, sure, and all the better, because it keeps Dropbox on its toes, and there's no reason not to use several.

This has to be the best app ever!!! The app doesn't lag, works quick and seamlessly. Saving files onto your SD is pretty easy too. The best thing about it is speed. it use local storage on each device you have! However, syc is very fast and you can always access the account and delete whatever files that you wish,,, tried it on an Android, iPad, Win7 PC, WinXP PC, and it worked great,,, Pricing is high for extra storage; but you can get real free storage space

App works well with my HTC OneX, the free 25Gb was a plus! It mirrors pretty well with the desktop App, however I would like to have the option on my mobile App to be notified with a popup or status bar prompt when I received something in a folder or certain folder. Just like the desktop app let's you know when something was added to your Dropbox. Over all though I like it and it works and very easy to use.

The tutorial helps show you how easy it is to use this service. This is a great way to store you info in the "cloud". The only con I would say is the lack of storage given for free when there are plenty of others available with more given. Overall, this and Google Drive work great for me. HTC One X

I use it to keep my passwords linked between several computers and my phone, as well as small files like recipes instead of having to keep hunting by website. Wish it had an option to select all. I really hate having to check each box for over 3000 pics. Upload speeds are ok..but takes 3 times longer to download using a 50/5 mbps wifi...lucky to his 3mbps download.

Great app, will change review to 4-5 stars when upload setup gets better. Please add option to schedule forced uploads (I always have my phone charging and on wifi at night but many times in the morning the pics status is still 'waiting to upload' and there is no option called 'upload now'. Also consider settings like auto-start synchronise when connected to wifi', etc. Also, for many already uploaded pics I cannot load thumbnail
