'Faraway' Finally Hitting This Fall
Calendar16 Wed, 24 Aug 2011 19:00:40 UTC +00:00
Eliss [$4.99] creator Steph Thirion’s next game, , now has a release window: it’s slated to hit later this fall on unspecified iOS devices, though I’d imagine the first run of the game will undoubtedly hit the iPhone and iPod Touch. A new teaser website is now available, too! Thirion’s Faraway is a game about building constellations, but it’s mechanics are a little bit more abstract than you think. In the game, you’ll indirectly control a comet that gets yanked to and fro via gravitational pulls. The object is to find star clusters and then trace them to create a constellation. Levels are timed, and you’ll earn more time by doing this. If you’re wondering why this release window is such a big deal, it’s because we’ve been idly waiting for the game since 2010 without any idea of when it’d hit. Thirion told us at this past GDC that he Read More
Eliss Developer Shows Off Faraway at GDC
Calendar16 Mon, 07 Mar 2011 19:41:46 UTC +00:00
Posted 03/07/2011 at 11:41am | by Andrew Groen Steph Thirion was one of the iPhone's great early developers. Eliss [iTunes Link] was one of our favorite games back in the early days of the App Store. Since then, Thirion started working on a game called Faraway that was initially shown back at GDC 2010, but then fell off the map entirely. Now, Thirion is back and gave colleagues and reporters a glimpse at the upcoming game at the Game Developers Conference. Thirion's latest creation is called Faraway and casts the player as a comet zooming through interstellar space. Players have to manipulate gravity in order to slingshot around stars. There is a line that follows you around and attaches to stars every time you enter their orbit. The goal is to create constellations by connecting the lines between stars. It's more than a little bit off-the-wall in its design, but we'd Read More

To celebrate the season a whole bunch of apps are going on sale. Here's the most comprehensive list available for which apps are seeing a discount. Last month our Thanksgiving meals were stuffed with lots of deeply discounted apps, and it seems that publishers are getting into the Christmas spirit in much the same way. We’ve got a whole slew of apps available at rock bottom prices just in time for your holiday celebrations, many at their lowest prices ever. Make sure and act fast though, as many of these apps are available for an extremely limited time. Also, be sure and keep checking this post regularly, as we’ll be updating all the new deals as they are announced. Much like Santa, we don’t stop working until Christmas, and we’re paid in milk and cookies. Speaking of, if you could leave out some chocolate chip oatmeal cookies that would be delightful. Read More
Indie games on sale for iPhone (and a good cause)
Calendar16 Tue, 21 Dec 2010 17:30:00 UTC +00:00
The popular Humble Indie Bundle for the Mac has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity and has become an inspiration for other indie developers looking to follow their lead. In that spirit, six independent iPhone game developers have banded together and are offering their games at a US$2-$3 discount. The devs will give 1/3 of the sale proceeds to Child's Play, a charity that provides toys and video games to children's hospitals across the U.S. The bundle includes six games which will be sold for US$0.99 each. Due to the limitation of the iTunes App Store, each title will be sold separately and not as a $6 bundle. The bundle includes titles like Osmos, a physics-based, cosmic survival game and Drop 7, a puzzle game that mixes the best of Sudoku and Tetris. Games rounding out this indie offering include Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor, Solipskier, Eliss and Read More
'Tis the season of giving, and in recognition of this six independent iOS developers have banded together to not only give you a great deal on their games, but also give some cheer to less fortunate gamers around the world. From December 21st to December 31st, 6 games will be available individually on the App Store for just 99¢ each, one of which has notoriously never been on sale before: Canabalt. It's all for a good cause, though, as one-third of all total sales earned during this promotion period will be donated to Child's Play Charity, an organization that collects video games, toys, books, money, and more for children who are spending time ill in hospitals throughout North America and the world. Here is a list of App Store links to the 6 games that are 99¢ as part of the Indie sale along with links to each developer's website and Read More

So You Just Got an iPhone 4 – An App Store Gaming Guide
Calendar16 Thu, 24 Jun 2010 08:20:31 UTC +00:00
If you're one of the lucky ones you managed to secure themselves an iPhone 4 today (or even the past two days if you're really lucky) you've no doubt marveled at how thin it is, how crisp the Retina Display is, and maybe you've even found someone else to do a FaceTime call with... but what about loading it up with some games? Since we haven't gotten our own iPhone 4's yet, we haven't really been able to put together a "games that are really awesome on the iPhone 4" listing, but I figured we'd start out by compiling a list of some of our favorite games in the App Store. If you think this looks a lot like our 2009 Buyer's Guide, that's because it does. However, we've updated the list with some of our recent favorites and kept some of the old ones. 'Eliss' for iPhone: A Great Fit for iPad
Calendar16 Sat, 15 May 2010 12:52:05 UTC +00:00
Since the iPad's arrival last month, we've joined readers in keeping our ear to the ground in order to get our hands on any great new or retooled games offering specific iPad support that land in the App Store. Such titles that take advantage of the iPad's more powerful processor and feature high resolution graphics befitting the iPad's large display have the potential to deliver a game experience beyond that of the iPhone. Of course, the iPad is quite capable of running all your iPhone games (at standard res or 2x scaled), but generally those titles are better played on their original target device. Of course, there are exceptions. Certain iPhone shooters are more enjoyable on the iPad -- , for one. And, I find that iPhone Arkanoid clones play a little better on the iPad -- , , and ... Arkanoid, for example. But, of all the iPhone games I've Read More

Posted 04/29/2010 at 1:56pm | by Ray Aguilera With 185,000 apps and counting, the App Store is a vast warehouse of digital goodies for your iPhone (and now iPad too). But like most mega-marts, the sheer size of it all makes the good stuff harder to find. We’ve scoured the Store, and found the best apps to help you use your iPhone to it’s fullest potential. Whether it’s games you seek, or productivity tools, we’ve got you covered. As it turns out, there really is an app for that, no matter what that is. The iPhone and iPod touch brought back fun to videogaming, with developers focussing on innovation, affordability, and novelty. Touchscreen and accelerometer controls also force designers to think different, resulting in games that are a glorious collision of classic and cutting-edge gameplay and technology. --Craig Grannell Steph Thirion · $2.99 Eliss is the perfect game for the iPhone’s Read More
Eliss Developer Announces Follow-Up Title Faraway
Calendar16 Tue, 09 Mar 2010 17:15:53 UTC +00:00
Steph Thirion, developer of the innovative and acclaimed multi-touch space puzzler Eliss, has finally announced a follow-up title, Faraway, to be developed under his new label Little–Eyes. According to Thirion, Faraway will share the same space theme as Eliss, but will expand on the original: “Like Eliss, Faraway is an original concept, and is set in space, but the new game drastically increases the scale of the play area. While Eliss was about planets and space management in sectors, Faraway will be about constellations and infinite space travel.” That’s all we know so far, but the game will be making an appearance at GDC in San Francisco, which should hopefully shed some more light on how it will play and what platforms (iPad?) it will be available for. Mar 8th 2010 at 10:00PM I'd love to see some actual written instructions. I purchased this game based on a review somewhere, and I've never been able to actually understand what the hell is going on. The old-timey pixelated help screens are groovy and all, but they don't exactly explain the game very well. I'd love to see an iPad version of Eliss. Imagine the same awesome game with so much more screen space. :) Any news on an update to Eliss? I've got perfect in every level and have got a message that says I've found a door and an "update draws nigh." I would LOVE more of that game - easily my favourite on the iPhone. Either way, looking forward to Faraway what's your strategy for level 15? I've been stuck there for months! Great game, looking forward to what he does next. The problem with Eliss is that Read More

10 iPhone Apps That Need a Push to Use the Accelerometer
Calendar16 Fri, 24 Jul 2009 01:04:54 UTC +00:00
Posted 07/23/2009 at 5:04pm | by Michael Simon There's no denying that the iPhone owes a large part of its success to the swift, rabid adoption of the accelerometer by the vast majority of the App Store’s 65,000+ apps. With an array of uses far beyond anything Apple ever dreamed possible, iPhone’s tilt controls have sparked a revolution of their own and raised the bar for mobile apps across all platforms. Of course, there are plenty of apps out there that limit their accelerometer use--or ignore it completely--but who are we to judge? It’s not like we spend our days trolling the App Store just so we can boil down tens of thousands of games and utilities to 10 or so that we think need improvement. So, here’s our list of 10 or so apps that we think need improvement: Eliss A crude, deceptively confounding game of wits and reflex, Eliss Read More
Apple Celebrates First Anniversary of App Store
Calendar16 Tue, 07 Jul 2009 05:36:21 UTC +00:00
Apple has started celebrating the first anniversary of the App Store with a special section on iTunes [link] highlighting their favorite applications and games. While the App Store officially launched on July 11th 2008, many MacRumors readers were able to access the App Store early after the 2.0 firmware was inadvertently leaked by Apple. The special page lists several of Apple's favorite apps, though the lists seem to vary by country. Some of the favorites in the U.S. listings include (links to iTunes): - MLB at Bat ($9.99) - Brushes ($4.99) - Ocarina ($0.99) - Things ($9.99) - Real Racing ($9.99) - Toki Tori ($0.99) - Eliss ($0.99) The App Store has come along way in a year with over 56,000 apps now available in the App Store. While all of Apple's choices have their merits, the last game listed above, Eliss, in particular is an iPhone original game that makes Read More

Eliss Lite: A Must Try iPhone Game
Calendar16 Fri, 19 Jun 2009 12:23:44 UTC +00:00
After our profile of Owen Goss earlier this week, some commenters were insistent that "new and original" was the way to find success in the App Store. While Steph Thirion's original game Eliss may have seen some moderate exposure after having been nominated for GDC Mobile's Innovative Game Design award, it's still far from being a App Store success story despite it's unique design. We reviewed the game back in March and found to be a wonderful game. Thirion has just put out a Lite version of Eliss which offers you 3 levels of the multi-touch game. The game presentation is sparse, however, so new players may be a bit lost at first. The game is separated into levels in which planets appear. Like colored planets can be combined to make a larger planet (pinch) or pulled apart to create smaller planets (spread). The goal of the game is to eliminate Read More

Jun 18 iPhone News   7:31 am      (0) Comments When I first came upon this game, it seemed to have some sort of cult-like status/following to it and that’s what drew me in and peaked my curiosity. In any case, the basic premise to Eliss is simple…However, don’t let that fool you…the execution and gameplay is complex and deeply satisfying. Utilizing Apple’s multi-touch technology, you need to either join or break apart solid shaded circles so that they fit into hollow circles. It might sound confusing at first, but once you watch my video, you’ll understand what the concept is. Here’s my vid review: Eliss is available in the AppStore currently and costs only $2.99. If you’re looking for a fun, fast puzzler, Eliss may be what you’re looking for. No comments yet. You must be logged in to post a comment. Read More

'Eliss' v1.1 Update Arrives, Easing Difficulty
Calendar16 Sat, 02 May 2009 19:45:27 UTC +00:00
While at the iPhone Developers Union party at GDC 2009 I had a lengthy and pleasant conversation with Steph Thirion, author of the highly innovative, multitouch puzzle game Eliss.  During the conversation, Steph conveyed to me his concern about the game's difficulty.  He was hearing that, while some people were moving from level to level just fine, others were having extreme difficulty getting past the first few levels.  It was a situation that was concerning him.  An update would soon help the situation out, he told me. Today, Steph's update, Eliss v1.1 [link], went live in the App Store and the price dropped a dollar to $2.99. Details of the v1.1 update: Steph made a blog post that goes into detail regarding his concerns about the game's difficulty.  (If you're a fan of the game, it's worth a read.) If you have tried Eliss, you know it’s challenging. It’s fast and Read More

Very Challenging
heirodule 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Very fun abstract game (with a kind of "outer space" feel) where you merge colored circles together (or split them apart) to fit them inside zones that will explode when you do so (that's good!)
Incredible
Justylicious 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game blew me away with it's simplistic nature, but beautiful gameplay. It may not be the best looking game, but it's definitely my favorite.
Amazing game for those who love mircomanagement
nate_n 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Personally I'm a huge fan of things that requires skills, and there is no other game more perfect than Eliss in testing that. Each level is unique and poses its own challenge. Be warned that this is not for people who are easily frustrated. But if you're a micromanagement type of person, definitely get this
So great!
dontstaylong 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Challenging, charmingly retro, and a great use of multi-touch. I've had it a week, playing it on the train after work and it never fails to put a grin in my face. Highly recommended.

way too hard!
andypandy11234235 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
once you get over all of the fanciness, you realize you just wasted your money on a game that you will never be able to beat. It is impossible. I really would like to see an update that tones down the difficulty. my fingers and mind cannot do 10 things at once, and especially on such a small and crowded screen.
Unnecessarily hard
Danc4498 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Put simply, this game should be a lot more fun than it is, but the difficult ramps up so fast, you're never given a chance to enjoy the game. The appeal of the game is it has you doing 10 things at once with 4 fingers working together. When the game is doing this at a slower pace, this is really satisfying, but within 2 minutes of first playing the game, the levels get overly chaotic and fast paced to the point that it's not fun anymore. Hopefully future updates will tone this down a little. Also, it would be nice to have an infinite mode, where instead of playing predictable levels, you play for a high score and the difficulty ramps gradually.
Cute, fun, and shockingly difficult
agent oranje 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game has so many things going for it - the visual style is retro in a very good way, the gameplay is simple and straightforward, the sound is well done with catchy music, and it is a very nicely polished application on the whole. The difficulty, however, is off the charts - once you get a few levels in, there's no room for mistakes, and you need to track and interact with several objects on-screen at once. If skill levels are added, this earns five stars easily, but in its current form I don't think I'll ever get past level 5.
Well worth it.
PForrest 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
My favorite iPhone game ever. No contest.
Jesus this is hard!

Too hard? Naaah.
JesusQuintana 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I for one find the difficulty of the game just about right. It's just hard enough to make you a little frustrated but it still keeps you coming back for more like a perfect puzzle game should. Overall, this has to be one of my favorite games on the iPhone. The visuals and sounds are all top notch, and the gameplay is brilliant.
Awesome but Difficult
PF sunny day 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game is a perfect puzzle game for the iPod. The only problem is the difficulty. Lvl 10 is insane! Please update or fix. The retro graphics and simplistic gameplay make this game a classic. If you feel like spending more money on a puzzle game, definitely get this app but prepare to be frustrated by multi-tasking.

Almost great
Blorpy 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Lovely, minimalist, retro, and unlike anything else. I also think the difficulty is too high, website says he will address that. Look forward to enjoying it more, not being stuck at level....nevermind.
Modern Art
jch200 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is easily the coolest game I've seen on the iPhone. First of all, the visual design throughout the game is beautiful, minimalist art. I think a large screen version of this game could be exhibited in the MoMA in New York. Secondly, the game play is amazing fun and addicting, and uses the unique multi-touch capabilities of the iPhone perfectly. Some people are saying the learning curve is too high, but really it's a very easy game to learn, it's just really challenging to get good at it. Which I think is great. I keep wanting to try again and again until I can get to the next level. Anyway, if you're into modern art at all, then get the game just to look at it. The fact that it's so fun to play is just a bonus for me.
A Work of Art.
rm -rf / 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Wonderfully simple arcade graphics beckon, with great sound effects that just beg you to keep on playing. However, it's incredibly challenging, perhaps too much so. If there was a difficulty or speed setting, that would be optimal. Difficulty aside, it's a beautiful game that utilizes the multi-touch on the iPhone/iPod Touch in a way that makes it a work of art.

get it!!! great game but cant beat sector seven
Challenging, but Addictive
jakemondo 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game is quite difficult, but it's so simplistic and so addicting that you might try to complete one level 10-30 times, fail each time, and keep coming back. I'm about halfway through the game, and each level has a new set of "finger-dexterity" puzzles you have to solve in real-time to keep your universe from collapsing.
great game, perfect for touch interface.
genep 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is one of the best games yet for the iPhone and really makes great use of the touch interface. No fancy 3D graphics, just great game play. Warning: It is HARD! I am only on level 9. My fingers are sure getting a good workout though!
Too hard?
thinbuddha 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Don't let the steep learning curve scare you away. This game is great fun after you get the hang of it.
Two problems
Skyfunnydude 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
First- extremely hard! Can't even pass level 3. Second- need better directions. I eventually figured it out, but I still don't even know what stardust does. Fix these problems and then you have a five star app.  Still really fun
Eliss... Easy fun.
dawweber 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
It's not always nice to lose your level for the fifth time, but when you win it, it's worth buying.
Two words, Great game

Its different everytime I play it. Great music and sound effects. Multitouch is awesome too.

Jesus this is hard!
Jeskers 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Lifelong gamer stuck on level three haha Maybe turn it down a bit. I'm not saying make it dumb easy, but it seems a lot of people (like myself) won't see more than 10 percent of the game content.
Fix music problem
Dudelike1234 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a great game. I love the multitouch controls. However, I would enjoy listening to my own music, I tried to turn off the sound, be when you launch it it kills your music. Then if you try to double tap the home button to play music it plays one song then cuts off. Difficulty is pretty intense. Needs just one update and then I'll give it 5 stars.
Really special
pbg 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is why multi touch shines. This is so simple, so fun, so whimsical. The designer should be proud, this is a special app. Needs to win awards. Really well suited to the times...gives a nod to many games from years ago, but brings its own bizarre yet intuitive interface to the table. The controls will be the basis for some future galaxoid harmonic bioengineering nebula station on Planet X. This is where we are.
pretty
Allmynicknamesalreadytaken 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game is beautiful. The graphics are no more than they need to be and the sounds and music are excellent. I agree with all those who say that this game makes the best use of multi-touch, far better than any other game, but the problem is i don't have 30 fingers. It gets extremely difficult early on and at level 11 (which I'm stuck on) it approaches impossibility. I still find it fun and return to it every now and then, overall I'm still happy with this buy.

This game is beautiful. The graphics are no more than they need to be and the sounds and music are excellent. I agree with all those who say that this game makes the best use of multi-touch, far better than any other game. It gets extremely difficult early on and approaches but doesn't quite reach impossiblity ;) I've made it to level 19 and have a feeling I'll be working on that for a while. AMAZING game!
Elegant and Absorbing

It is tough, but would you want a game to blow through in two minutes to make your self feel better? If you would, don't get this game, you likely don't have the faculties to enjoy it. If you have an appreciation for superb design and challenging gameplay, make this purchase!
Not worth even if it were free!

The concept is simple and enjoyable. Perfect for quick plays on the go. The simplicity and cleanliness of the art style is is beautiful, and there is great use of the platform's multitouch functionality. More than worth the price!
Simple but deep gameplay.

The use of multitouch is great here, it's also very challenging, but I keep coming back for more.

Promising...
Dj Df 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game is extremely interesting and fun, and the simple-yet-deep cameplay concepts are promising, but I think the lack of various play modes and overall content make this a 4/5 stars. It would be great if in a future update new modes were added. Currently the levels are all pre-programmed (although there is a random element to what shows up where) so even playing the same level over offers some variety, but not much. More levels of all different difficulties should be added, and a marathon mode should be added as well. Also, alternative goals could be introduced, such as getting the biggest planet possible, or combining different colored planets to make new colors to put into the squeezars, or a 1-hit-game over mode, or something. Simply fullfilling arbitrary numbers of squeezars each level seems kinda pointless, although it's still fun and most definitely challenging. I consider myself an average gamer, and I didn't get stuck until level 10. I know I'll beat it eventually, but who knows when! I feel like there's a lot to still be explored in the universe of Eliss, but the game doesn't let me go there yet...
AMAZING

I am not a big game fan.. Esp. not iphone games, but I saw a review of this and it looked interesting; so I bought it. It's actually loads of fun, and a great use of multi-touch... well worth the price! The graphics are amazingly retro, and the music makes all the difference! Challenging, and if you can't get past one level at first, going back to previous levels isn't boring at all... To the developer: Good show mate! Your app complelled me to write my first rewiew.
simply amazing

This game is a ton of fun, with excellent use of the multi-touch interface. In fact, I would say, this is one of the few games on the App Store that truly could not exist on any other platform - it couldn't work without the multitouch interface of the iPhone/iPod Touch. With that said the game play is relatively simple, but becomes increasingly difficult as you progress. My one complaint is that the learning curve is relatively steep - I struggled to just get past level 3. However, once I got that hang of it, and retrained myself to really utilize the multi-touch I began to realize just how genius the interface is. In fact, I am now at level 10 and don't find it nearly as hard as I first thought it was.
Fun but 2 hard
Tkisawesome 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Constructive criticism here we go: -Make different difficulties PLEASE -Maybe a little better tutorial in the beggining, the user is sort of left to figure out what to do -Maybe some different games modes, could we incorporate that in?? But really overall package is good, although very frustrating
Originality 10

The thing that makes this a beautiful game is what seems impossible at first becomes routine and then theres the next level which seems impossible all over again.
Worth it

It's really an awesome game but very difficult. Developer, if you make it easier please make it an option to keep it this difficult. It's hard but I wouldn't want it made easier. It makes it rewarding when u win a level.
Too hard

Levels are getting hard. But that's what I like in a game, challenge. I keep coming back to play this game to complete the levels.
Pretty Entertaining
coolcucumber05 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Very interesting and enjoyable game. The multiple touch feature, along with the pinch and other effects to split and bring the planets together makes for a nice touch. At first, I thought having only 20 levels would make for a short game, but I was wrong. After the first couple levels, it gets complicated, almost too much so.
Two words
fortris 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Difficulty curve, FIX IT. UPDATE: I beat level ten! But level 11 is brushing up against impossible. Why don't you offer difficulty levels? Easy, where you don't take much damage from collisions, normal, which you take a little less, and hard is as the game is now. Level ten is ridiculously hard. I've trie it with TWO PEOPLE and can't beat it! Did you, the developer, even beat this game?
awesome awesome game. thank you!!
fraggerrock 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
What a smart, fun game with cool retro style. the music and sound fx are perfect. the concept is quirky to match the cool retro graphics. as for the difficulty some previous reviewers state, i don't get it. after dying the first time trying sector 1, i "got it" and blew threw the next few levels and didn't die till sector 8. but it definitely does get challenging come level 10+! but that's what makes it so fun! the game requires you to think fast (and move fingers fast! if you are incapable of doing both at the same time, or if you don't like a good challenge, stay away. otherwise this game is super fun.
Priceless
Sophistry13 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I can't wait till the new update comes out. Got all the levels on perfect and now just waiting on that question mark to be uncovered. Best game value wise and depth of quality is outstanding!!
A beauty and a beast
Justin Runge 3.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
Undoubtedly beautiful to behold, and stellar gameplay mechanics, but I wonder how many gamers give up on sector fifteen. The game needs to sense when a level is too difficult and modify itself to accomodate the player. However addictive, I can see myself not returning to this just out of pure frustration (essentially what happened with me and Drop7).
Really difficult, really fast
piroteknix 4.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
I bought this game after playing the free demo. It was so beautiful, fun, and innovative, I couldn't resist. I can't think of any other platform that would work for this game, and that uniqueness is very valuable. The graphics are a great throwback to the days of Asteroids and other classic arcade games. However, gameplay, at times, can be very frustrating, especially if one wants a perfect on every level. Like another user already said, the curve is very high. Levels get really hard, really fast. I don't know if I should blame my lack of skill, or a technical difficulty, but I can never seem to hold three planets out of a vortex at the same time for very long without losing one. If you're really up for a challenge, or just want a good-looking, unique, retro style game, this is a great addiction to your iPhone/iPod library. I highly recommend it. But if you just want a simple game to pick up and play around with for a few minutes while you're bored, this might not be the best.
Frustratingly difficult
The Manta 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
This game is not for those with short tempers. I'm playing the 1.1 version with supposedly better difficulty curve, and I still want to throw my iPhone out the window whenever I play this game. I'm currently on level 14 which I think is about halfway through. If you make one mistake on this level you will fail. The problem is that it's very easy to make a mistake because there's limited room to work with and the touch controls aren't always exact. It's very frustrating to get 80-90% complete and then one issue causes you to fail. While the concepts of the game are neat, I could only it recommend to those looking for an insane challenge.
good but...
deef67 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
...some boards are more or less impossible...or at least so dependent on pure luck that you can be playing perfectly and then spontaneously go from full strength to dead in a flash due to the random appearance of a new star. Just gets discouraging.
Neat idea, poorly implemented
Adbak 2.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
The game has great sound and a neat aesthetic, but in gameplay the controls are lacking. Basically, the idea of the game is to keep the different colors separated until you can get rid of them. This is a fun idea, and after the first few levels new gameplay elements are introduced. After they are introduced, the problems that seemed minor before are magnified. When new circles populate the screen, they often populate underneath a circle of another color. By the time youcarch this and try to take the overlying one off of the underlying one, you have either run out of health or are near dying when you can successfully pry them apart. The major area that I find lacking is in the later levels when the sun is introduced. It moves across the screen and you have to try and move your colored circles out of the way or else you start to lose health rapidly. This would not be a problem if (1) the sun did not take up half the screen widthwise and (2), when the sun and a circle (or two circles) touch it is nigh impossible to separate them as they appear to be magnetically attached. If you can suffer those two aspects of gameplay, then this game is fun. Otherwise, it loses its appeal in gameplay.
Good idea poorly implemented
midnightdiesel 1.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
This is a pretty cool game at first, but past the first few levels it goes south fast. The controls and gameplay really don't work well on this tiny screen. The game also does a pretty poor job figuring out what you want it to do, especially when trying to "lock on" to the target things, or split an object without having to completely go fully to both sides of the screen. The result makes you want to throw the iPhone across the room in frustration. Get the free version, but this full one is just a waste of money.
Not very fun

I just beat Sector Fifteen..
landbamirum 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
..after about 2 weeks of trying. You can do it!! That's one of the great things about this game— it's still fun even though you can lose 100 times in a row. Here is what worked for me on Level 15: 1. At the beginning, combine all same-color planets as soon as they appear. This will mean moving existing planets to where a new one is about to appear, which may in turn require moving a different planet out of the way. 2. The very SECOND the sun's outer rays start to appear, STOP doing step 1. Take the closest planet to the Sun and get it the heck out of there. 3. Determine the projected path of the Sun. Move all planets out of its path, while simultaneously watching for new planets to spring up. DO NOT try to continue doing Step 1 at this point. 4. Once you steer clear of the Sun, there will be 3 seconds or so of calm where no new planets are popping up and no Sun is threatening you. You can use this time to make whatever Supernovas are available. 5. Go back to step 1 and repeat until you've finished the level! Tips: 1. There is a 5-second time slow-down thingy when you get to about 3 supernovas, and another towards the end. There is also an E energy thing at 5 supernovas. Do not assume these will save you— you still must pay attention! 2. Don't worry too much about collecting stardust on this level— it is too distracting and doesn't make much difference anyway. 3. If you do collect stardust, swiping is much more effective than tapping. (you might know this already but I just learned it.) 4. You want to end up with planets about 1/3 the width of the screen. Smaller than that and there will be too many to move around when the Sun comes. Too big and you can get cornered. An exception is when a Squeesar is about to evaporate— then just take whatever you can get. 5. If you have a planet that is too big and about to be cornered by the Sun, split it and go around it both ways. This takes some practice but it's worth it. 6. When moving planets to avoid collisions, remember you can use same-color planets as a safe 'path' for each other. You can move them across each other without joining (just don't let up your finger.) This may seem obvious but you'd be surprised how little you do it instinctively. 7. If you have the time, try to get the biggest Supernovas that are allowed. This often means holding your finger down while combining planets to avoid premature Supernovas. 8. Impending Supernovas are invincible. Once the squiggly rotating line appears AND you let up your finger, the Sun can go right through and not hurt you. No more collisions are possible. So, in some instances you can actually move a planet toward the Sun and not get hurt. So I beat Sector 16 in 2 tries. Now on to 17, which looks impossible. Hm...
Ridiculously Short and Annoying
McAlsop 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I like games like Galcon, FlightControl, Fantastic Contraption, Enigmo, etc. This game could possibly be fun, but there are just too many things working against it.
Beautiful, but quickly gets too hard to hold interest.
harrison4 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I love the look of this game, it's elegant and beautiful. The issue I have is that the levels quickly get very, very difficult and so I lost interest. I think with the addition of an Easy to Difficult slide bar or radio buttons, the game could be much better, but as it is it's worth about 15 minutes and then gets annoyingly and unnecessarily frustrating to play.
