Infinity Blade Review: Simple Gameplay, Cleverly Packaged
Calendar16 Thu, 09 Dec 2010 22:00:59 UTC +00:00
Infinity Blade is possibly the most-hyped iOS game release to date. The title, developed by Epic Games’ ChAIR Entertainment studio, got a lot of attention thanks to an early demo of its graphics engine in the app Epic Citadel. Now that it’s actually arrived as a game you can play, how does it stack up? Be warned, there be spoilers below, but also know that story is not what Infinity Blade is about. Let me make something abundantly clear: This is a gorgeous game. It’s the best-looking game I’ve seen on my iPhone 4′s Retina Display, and the best on the iPad, too. I haven’t had the chance to see how it works on an iPhone 3GS or iPod touch, but it runs very smoothly on Apple’s latest phone and tablet hardware. You can see many pretty pictures of just how nice Infinity Blade looks in the gallery at the end Read More

[iOS-Game] Infinity Blade (+ Video)
Calendar16 Thu, 09 Dec 2010 07:31:02 UTC +00:00
Infinity Blade erreicht den App Store. Soweit die gute Nachricht am heutigen Morgen. Viele betrübende Anmerkungen folgen. Als ‘Epic Citadel’ (kostenlos; App Store-Link) kündigte Epic Games auf Apples September Event ein iOS-Spiel an, das auf die Unreal Engine 3 zurückgreift. Ohne Frage: Grandios!
Infinity Blade to hit App Store on Dec 9th
Calendar16 Tue, 30 Nov 2010 13:24:42 UTC +00:00
By Chris Oldroyd, Tuesday, Nov 30, 2010 | Epic Games has announced that the long awaited iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad game, Infinity Blade, will be in the App Store on December 9. The game will be available for the iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, as well as third- and fourth-generation iPod touch devices at a cost of $5.99. Infinity Blade will be the first full game to utilize Epic’s Unreal Engine 3. Epic Citadel, already available in the App Store, is a short demonstration level showing  the power of the Unreal Engine on iOS devices. If you haven’t seen it, it is free and definitely worth a look. [Free - iTunes Link] Infinity Blade is an RPG (Role Playing Game). You are a Knight in a giant 3D Castle environment, in search of a God-King, battling various enemies to gain new weapons and powers in your quest. So mark your Read More
We've been kind of going crazy with Infinity Blade news lately, but it's hard to not get excited for the first real game to come to the iOS platform that utilizes Unreal Engine 3 technology. Sure, Epic Citadel [Free] is an excellent display of the power of the platform, but it's little more than a tech demo. MTV Multiplayer also had some time with Chair creative director Donald Mustard and they were able to get even more details regarding just what we can expect of the game. Mustard confirms that the castle in is in fact different from the one found in , and went on to discuss the sword fighting nature of the game: He then goes on to describe Infinity Blade as "a blend between 'Karateka,' 'Dragon's Lair,' 'Punch-Out,' with a whole bunch of other 'Chair-ness' thrown into it." We'll be able to explore the castle for loot in Read More
I can’t write too much about this trailer because I’m still using one hand to hold my jaw up (after it dropped, y’know), but do take a look at what the folks who made Epic Citadel plan to release on the iOS platform. The video above is so pretty, it’s stupid. Sorry to the folks on iOS devices, though — this vid is Flash. Read More
Read More
The iPad has Been Delicious, Musical and Now Electric!
Calendar16 Wed, 03 Nov 2010 15:06:54 UTC +00:00
Yes, it’s time for a new Apple iPad TV ad and as we said in the title, this time the iPad is electric!  The format remains the same though, as we’re treated to a variety of apps being used, some fingers being pointed, some typing and a sly aside concerning their competitors smaller tablets! The 30-second commercial features an array of apps, which we’ve gathered for you below, complete with a link to the iTunes store so you don’t have to go hunting. Some stock iPad applications are featured too, in the shape of Mail, iTunes University and Iron Man 2 playing as a video.  It’s also interesting to note that during the Epic Citadel spot we see two knights about to fight, something that happened during Epic’s demo, but not in the character-less version available at the moment. Enjoy the ad itself below: Read More
Details on Epic's Project Sword, now called Infinity Blade
Calendar16 Wed, 03 Nov 2010 15:00:00 UTC +00:00
During last September's press event, representatives from Epic Games demonstrated "Project Sword," an impresive title running the Unreal Engine inside iOS. Today, that game has been re-named Infinity Blade and new screenshots have been released. Slide to Play notes that Infinity Blade will be the first iOS game to use the Unreal Engine 3. They expect it to hit both the iPad and iPhone "this holiday season." As for gameplay, expect the typical fantasy/medieval RPG stuff, like raging monsters, experience points, items galore and so on. In the new screenshots we see our hero battling a ridiculously oversized baddie. Let's hope that's a boss. Right now there's no word on pricing or a solid release date. If you just can't wait, check out the demo called Epic Citadel (free). It doesn't do much other than let you explore the town from a first-person perspective, but boy is it gorgeous, especially on Read More
Lo sviluppo Read More
We've been following Infinity Blade (Previously known as Project Sword) for quite a while now. We first saw it at the September keynote where Epic Games revealed that they'd be bringing the Unreal Engine-powered fighter to the iOS platform. Almost immediately following, Epic Citadel [Free] was released. This free universal tech demo was by far the most impressive display of the graphical capabilities we've seen of iOS devices yet. Our community seems to agree, so much so that it almost seems to be a TouchArcade meme to proclaim that something should be more like Epic Citadel. Today Epic revealed even more details on what is going to be all about. A press release blasted out earlier reveals the following gameplay details: Updates are going to be released for free, and it sounds like one of those updates will include the Game Center-powered multiplayer that we heard about at the keynote. TUAW's Mike Schramm tracked down Epic Games Vice President Mark Rein and asked some questions on [Free] and other things to do with the iOS platform. The whole interview is worth reading, but what really struck me is that the iPhone 3GS, not the iPhone 4, was what originally interested Epic Games in porting their engine to the platform: Also of note is that Rein hinted that Project Sword, the Unreal Engine powered game unveiled at Apple's September keynote address would be more expensive than your typical iPhone game, even citing higher-priced premium titles that have succeeded on the platform. If you haven't yet, now is a great opportunity to give Epic Citadel a try. The things the Unreal Engine is capable are able to do on iPhone hardware is absolutely breathtaking and will completely blow you away. Now, to get back to waiting for more Project Sword details... GDC Online 2010: Mark Rein on iOS and Epic Citadel
Calendar16 Thu, 07 Oct 2010 16:00:00 UTC +00:00
If you are an iPhone gamer and haven't tried Epic Citadel yet, you're doing yourself a disservice. Epic Games wowed the crowd at the recent Apple event with the free demo, showing an astoundingly beautiful virtual town running in full 3D graphics on the iPhone and the iPad. Epic's Mark Rein is here at GDC Online 2010 this week to talk to developers about Unreal Engine 3 on iOS and other platforms (he can't keep from showing off the game running on Android, even when you tell him that you work for an Apple blog and don't write about Android anyway), and I cornered him to chat about Epic Citadel and Project Sword, the game it's serving as a demo for. My first question was what drew Epic to a platform like the iPhone in the first place -- the developer is known for titles like Unreal Tournament and Gears of Read More
We announced UDK will be able to generate iOS applications! ‘Licht’ – neues Wort – ‘Spiele’. Epic Citadel
Calendar16 Thu, 09 Sep 2010 05:20:52 UTC +00:00
The iPhone has never been known for it’s landmark graphics and beautiful in-game scenery. The processor is just too small for nice graphics and therefore most developers have either chose simpler polygon counts or just gone with a cartoon look to compensate for the lack of textures. At least, we thought it couldn’t handle more. Epic has just recently announced that the Unreal Engine now works on the iPhone and has released a tech demo of sorts to prove it. Citadel is a single level from their upcoming game codenamed “Project Sword” which uses the optimized engine. The app isn’t really much of a game since there really isn’t a goal to it. But don’t let that keep you from downloading it. The first time I walked out into the open and saw the landscape complete with a river and moving trees, my jaw dropped. Who knew a game that good Read More

Epic Games, creator of the Unreal 3 game engine, has been working on getting Unreal Engine 3 running in iOS for a while now. They showed off some of their efforts with a demo of "Project Sword" at Apple's iPod event, and Mike Capps of Epic Games talked about the direction he saw gaming on iOS devices taking in the future. The fact that the Unreal 3 engine now runs seamlessly on iOS devices is a huge deal. This is the same game engine that's responsible for many high-quality titles on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, so having it run games on a device that fits in the palm of your hand is pretty mind-blowing. You can get a taste of Epic Games' Unreal 3 in iOS efforts with Epic Citadel, available on the App Store -- but because of the demanding graphical requirements, it's only compatible with the iPhone Read More

‘Epic Citadel’ Tech Demo in the App Store Now

posted by Jonathan Kizer on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 6:17 pm.   Originally submitted by madsoul You know that insanely detailed, smooth, and (dare I say it?) epic game that Apple showed off today during it’s music event? Yeah, well we are getting a free tech demo of it that you can download and play on your iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, or iPod touch G3 now. It isn’t so much a game as it is a proof of concept, but from some hands-on time with it, I have to say I’m impressed. This is some insane detail, especially considering the low-quality textures we are used to in the current ‘cream of the crop’ shooters. If every ‘premium’ game in the future features this much detail, then iOS just got a lot more interesting for mobile gamers. Sadly, it won’t work on your iPhone 3G or 2G, and the iPod Read More

Earlier today, Epic Games took the center stage at Apple’s media event to show off their upcoming title, “Project Sword.”  It looks like that wasn’t the only trick up Epic’s sleeve as they’ve just announced “Epic Citadel” for the iPhone, iPod Touch, & iPad. Now, don’t get your hopes up too high as Epic Citadel isn’t exactly a game, per say. A small team of Epic’s programmers, artists and testers created Epic Citadel in just 8 weeks and its purpose is to showcase what the Unreal 3 Engine is capable of on the iOS platform. You’ll be able to walk around a fictional town, inside a citadel, and explore the outskirts of the town where gorgeous visuals await at every step you take. You’ll also be able to initiate a “Guided Tour” mode which puts the game in auto-pilot and takes you across the game world to showcase some amazing visuals. Read More

Jobs also invited a few gentlemen from Epic Games onstage to show off "Project Sword," a gorgeous title running in the Unreal Engine inside iOS. It's an action RPG title that's coming soon with full Game Center integration, and the demo featured practically instant multiplayer fighting from a third-person perspective, as well as first-person world exploration. I just downloaded and played Epic Citadel and I am completely blown away! I can't believe Epic and ChAIR have managed to put together such amazing visuals on a phone. Again, this is on a phone! This is truly amazing stuff. The talent and ability required to produce something so impressive so much limitation is something to be admired. As soon as you start, you are able to walk around wherever you wish. I suggest heading into the cathedral first to check out how impressive it is. After that, make your way outside and be amazed at how far you can see, and the detail added into everything. You should definitely check this out. It is just a tech demo, so there is no gameplay, but you can walk around and check out everything the Unreal Engine has to offer; now on iPhone!
Great App!
