Calendar16 Wed, 20 Oct 2010 17:00:48 UTC +00:00
by on 20. Oct, 2010 in Right now we’re in the middle of the MLB playoffs, almost halfway through football season, at the beginning of hockey season, and the NBA regular season is rapidly approaching. That’s what it’s essential for anyone with any sort of interest in sports to have a sports app.  But why have an app for every sport or for every team you follow, when you can have one app that covers everything? That’s why we’re providing you with a review of these four comprehensive sports apps. This app seems like a fantastic app with tons of great features and lots of news and statistics, and while this is true, it is not executed in the best manner. Sportacular provides the user with scores for over 20 sports and sporting events, standings, news, and the ability to create your own profile. All this information can be sorted by Read More

Calendar16 Mon, 04 Oct 2010 20:36:46 UTC +00:00
Posted 10/04/2010 at 12:36pm | by Andrew Hayward Each new iPhone has offered fresh and fantastical ways to improve your daily life, but the epic tag-team of the iPhone 4 and iOS 4 deliver the greatest set of tools and features to date. With the introduction of FaceTime video calls, multitasking, and the high resolution Retina display, the iPhone 4 has moved even further away from being just a powerful phone and web-surfing device. Now more than ever, the iPhone is a true lifestyle-enhancing accessory. Between the built-in features and the hundreds of thousands of options in the App Store, not to mention a few key accessories, the iPhone 4 can be figuratively formed and changed to fit your daily needs, whether you’re planning your daily commute, knocking out items on your to-do list, or simply looking to try a new restaurant. ESPN ScoreCenter Gets The XL Treatment For iPad
Calendar16 Thu, 01 Apr 2010 15:51:24 UTC +00:00
ESPN’s ScoreCenter app has received the XL treatment, providing you with everything you loved about the iPhone version inside of an iPad-optimized interface and a handful of new features. ScoreCenter XL will provide scores from hundreds of global leagues and sports just like the iPhone version, but it will also include all kinds of in-depth information and videos that will make any sports fan proud to own an iPad. The app features an iPad-optimized interface that places all of the top games and scores on the left-hand side of the screen for easy access, and the top news and videos on the larger right-hand portion of the screen.  But that’s only if you are on the main “Top Events” page. If you are on a specific sport page, the app highlights all of the scores once again on the left-hand side as scrollable list.  If you tap on a game, you Read More
Want to read the books you bought for your Kindle on your new iPad? You’ll have to be patient. Amazon promises that the iPad version of the Kindle app it is working on will be cool, but it won’t be ready when the first Apple devices show up April 3. That’s because the e-commerce giant, like most developers, hasn’t been able to test the app on a real device. And it’s going to wait until it can do so to finish the software. How will the app compare with Amazon’s other Kindle implementations–and more important, with Apple’s (AAPL) own iBook program? Amazon (AMZN) isn’t saying much, though Kindle manager Ian Freed tells the New York Times (NYT) his group has “developed a tablet-based interface that redesigns the core screen and the reading experience.” The paper, which got a preview, informs us that the app “allows readers to slowly turn pages with their Read More

JAiB Sport Apps roundup
Calendar16 Wed, 17 Mar 2010 14:04:41 UTC +00:00
Sports fans are awakening from hibernation, and so we sent a little e-mail around to all the members of the JAiB team asking what apps people were using to follow their favourite sports. Hit the jump to see the results, and feel free to leave your own favourite sport-related apps in the comments! Frank I would say Sportacular is my go to sports app for everything right now. The push notifications work great to keep me informed with latest game coverage. I wish there was support for boxing. I am a huge boxing fan and I still can’t believe there is not one sports app that covers boxing. I am hopeful that one day: ESPN, Sportacular, or Sportstap will feature boxing coverage. I can’t be the only boxing fan left, right? Patrick Good call on lack of a good boxing app.  I’d love to see Boxing News do one (if they Read More
Disney CEO calls iPad "a game changer"
Calendar16 Wed, 10 Feb 2010 13:00:00 UTC +00:00
While discussing the iPad with the Associated Press on Tuesday, Disney CEO Bob Iger hinted at his company's plans for the iPad, and called it "a game changer." He gave brief examples of ideas they're throwing around for the iPad, including ESPN ScoreCenter and an interactive app for the ABC drama "Lost." ESPN ScoreCenter is currently an iPhone and iPod touch app that provides real-time scores and updates from the world of sports. Iger says that the iPad gives them an opportunity to "...really make the scores come to life." I think of the demo of Major League Baseball's At Bat for the iPad and see how the ESPN app could do the same -- provide gorgeous, full-screen video and stats plus chat and trash talk with other fans during the game of your choice. Multiple camera angles, locker room interviews, fantasy leagues, and so on, could all enhance the fun Read More

Phil Schiller Says What's On His iPhone
Calendar16 Mon, 07 Dec 2009 19:53:58 UTC +00:00
It’s nearing the end of the year, and while all of the general public is out bustling through stores eagerly finding gifts to present to their loved ones, Apple’s employees have compiled their annual iTunes Rewind list that has highlighted their picks for the best in iTunes’ various media categories. iPhone Alley introduces our new editor debate series, beginning with a debate about Nintendo’s 3DS handheld system. Can it compete with iOS or is it dead-on-arrival? More importantly, is it worth the purchase? Read More
Hey Phil, What’s On Your iPhone?
Calendar16 Mon, 07 Dec 2009 13:43:24 UTC +00:00
Posted 12/07/2009 at 5:43am | by J.R. Bookwalter It’s pretty much a given that Apple executives are using their own products, including the iPhone. If you’ve ever wondered what apps they might have installed, you can wonder no more — at least in Phil Schiller’s case. The New York Times’ Bits blog has a followup story to an extensive piece on the iPhone App Store which throws back the veil of mystery on the timeless question: “Hey Phil, what’s on your iPhone?” Apple’s senior vice president for worldwide product marketing Phillip W. Schiller actually leans toward more commercial tastes on his device. At the top of his list is Shazam, the magical app that identifies a song that’s playing and even lets you download it right away from iTunes. “There’s just something so amazing about being anywhere, and some music starts playing and you just hold up your phone and can Read More
We’ve told you earlier today about the App Store piece in today’s NYTimes, well the journalists took advantage of the occasion to ask Phil Schiller what are his favorite apps and here is what he came up with: It’s funny to still be so excited about Shazam, it’s been out for a while already and there’s been quite some progress lately. Still, it’s some great apps. Read More
Any Given Sunday: 7 Sports Tools You Can't Live Without
Calendar16 Mon, 26 Oct 2009 22:15:00 UTC +00:00
Touchdown dances, chest painters and rally caps - if you're not a sports fan, it's hard to understand why a perfectly upstanding citizen would wear a gigantic foam hand or engage in the politically incorrect Tomahawk chop. But if you are a diehard sports addict, you've probably been one since you were a kid. We watched in awe when Nolan Ryan pitched a 101 mph fast ball at the age of forty, when Air Jordan effortlessly dunked from the free throw line and when Joe Montana set the record for most yards passing during Super Bowl XIX. When you've been present to watch sports history, you can't turn your back on the game now. Nevertheless, with so much happening at once, below are a few tools that can help you juggle multiple games: 1. 20 Sexist iPhone Apps For Men
Calendar16 Mon, 20 Jul 2009 17:30:41 UTC +00:00
We recently wrote an article called “14 Useful iPhone Applications for Women” which described some iPhone apps that a writer and iPhone user thought would be useful for women. However, many commenters (probably in an attempt at humor) responded that this article was sexist. Apparently, choosing applications that target women more than men is sexist. Perhaps it’s not clear, but men and women  different. So while not all of the applications are useful for woman, those apps are targetted mainly towards women. (Sure men can use them too, but statistically, women are the primary users of those 14 apps.) That being said, we figured we should make a list of extremely sexist and stereotypic apps for men, to really show what sexist is. Read on for 20 apps with screenshots and descriptions.  1. iFitness by Medical Productions Category: Healthcare & Fitness Price: $1.99 App Store Link 2. FINALLY!!
Closduboi 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
ESPN makes a great looking sports app. I can get up to the minute scores for a ton of sports. I like the interface where you can swipe through cards instead of having to go through a menu. Overall an amazing app, way better than sportacular and sportstap! Thanks!
AWESOME
MrCaniac 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I've been waiting for this since I got my iPhone, and it's everything I wanted it to be. I previously used and enjoyed Sportacular, but this interface is a lot more appealing, game previews and reports open IN the app (a HUGE convenience, and my favorite part), plus the updates are done by the Worldwide Leader, so they're quicker than other sports apps. All in all, a fantastic application that I highly recommend.
Lame
OKROC 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Expected way, way, way more from ESPN. This would have been bad on Day 1 of the App Store, and it's been a year. ESPN should be embarrassed.
Awesome App!!! A MUST Have!!
Teddy C. 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I love this app.. It will give me quick access to all the sports scores I want.. It's free and from ESPN!! It can't get much better than that... Love the fact you can tap the bottomline headlines to launch the full story..
Amazing!

Great app
BikerRick 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Finally a good sports app. The rest were too slow or just plain bad. Up to the second, literally, of baseball play by play is awsome. ESPN is the leader in sports for the iPhone.

AWESOME, GO LAKERS
ricardopuentes 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Easy to read and use, love the team customization feature. ESPN has done it again.
Could be better
keithlam 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
The problem with something that is useful is that there is always something more that you want it to do. The two things I wish is that there was a manual refresh on score panels w/time last updated. Second, I wish that there was a way to navigate/control the scrolling Bottomline ticker.
Excellent App
ohh ungawa yo mamma need a shower i say uhh dont laugh yo daddy need a batff 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0

Glo4104 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This app is great! I love that it tells u the times of the games and the team stats. I especially like the ticker tape running at the bottom! Great job ESPN!
A Good Start
SuperbRogue 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I have been looking forward to an app such as this from ESPN since the day the app store was created. This is a polished app, that allows you to view all kinds of scores for different sports, and even set up your favorite teams so they are easy to find in the scoreboards. However, I may be a little spoiled since I have had Verizon service in the past and had the pleasure of using ESPN's MVP app on vcast. I wish that this app had the realtime scoring capability that the vcast MVP app has. I like having up to the second scores instead of up to the minute scores. This app is a great start, but please ESPN, update it and include the realtime scoring.
Networks ?
Mr.Platteborze 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
The screenshots show the network the games are on (but not baseball) and i dont see it in the app. Please fix for 5 stars !
Looks Nice, but bare bones and has ADS!
MBHockey 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Consider making a 99 cent version without ads?
causes backups to hang
docrandy 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This app is fine and all....but my backups hang after installing. If I remove the app, my backups start working again. Needless to say, this needs to be fixed.
Love it
Clem21 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Finally a scoreboard app from the worldwide leader
Good App
lazy_jay5579 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Love it! Been waiting for an app from ESPN... Glitched out to black screen a couple times. But still well worth the asking price of FREE! Im sure the issues will be fixed with updates
Solid
Rahrahrahrah1 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Good app but please integrate so you can check fantasy teams
Expected better from the leader in sports. :(
hography 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
What, no college baseball? You would think the leader in sports FROM the good ol' US of A could cover America's game at all levels. Guess not?!? It is a resource hog none the less that you could get scores quicker from the sportacular app.
app is fine but causes SLOW backups
ithorian_rogue 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
i was really excited to see an ESPN app as opposed to their mobile webpage. after installing though, my backups would stall everytime. so i deleted the app and my phone backs up perfectly. highly disappointed from ESPN!!
Very cool looking app - causes backup freezes during sync
Forty Two 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This is certainly a very cool looking app, but it causes backup freezes during sync for me. After installing, when I sync my iPhone, the backup part of the sync "hangs" and never recovers. After removing this app, everything works normally. I may have to wait for 1.0.1 or higher before I try again, but I certainly intend to.
Crashes
TTwardTT 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Crashed everytime I try to open it
Application crash
TMRFighter 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Watch out, the app continues to crash, I reinstalled it number of time without any change. It's a great idea, but it would be nice if it worked.
Awesome
Stsbrad 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I wouldn't change a thing with this app. Superb job. Geaux tigers
Great Product, Great Support
TunesRus90 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
By far my favorite of the free sports scores apps that I've used. Very pleasing and intuitive interface. Also, integration with your ESPN account is very slick, and to top it all off, I submitted a suggestion to add NCAA baseball scores, and within a day I received a personal email back saying that NCAA baseball scores were just added. The only downside is that it still seems to be a little slow in responsiveness, but I have full confidence that it will improve with future versions and for the most part its not even an issue.
Improved!
TexasEx92 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Now with NCAA baseball--yeah! I can't add my baseball team under favorites, but the CWS is available. Most excellent!
It's ok...
Logibogi 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Kind of slow and needs more features like Standings! Can't believe that was left out. Also, the ads get in the way of the layout. Still prefer Sportacular.
Agreed
_urban_maverick 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I agree with others this app is straight up crap now after the update!!
Yes! Stopped working
maranuna 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I am in agreement with "stopped working". I thought this app was going to help me keep up with the CWS, but noooo. It just didn't work period! The other sports apps didn't have the scores from the VA/ARK game either. ABC News came through! ESPN: get your app together or withdraw it.
