Droid Life’s Top 25 Android Apps Of 2011 – Droid Life
Calendar16 Thu, 22 Dec 2011 21:02:33 UTC +00:00
As we draw closer to the end of year, we wanted to reflect on some of the apps that seemed to have taken 2011 by storm.  It was only a year ago that the Android Market hit the 200,000 apps milestone, and now we are talking 10 billion app downloads and beyond. Whether it was a new messaging client, revamped social networking tool, or even a game that consumed our days to the fullest, this was a great year for applications on Android.  2011 also marked the release of the Amazon Appstore, which changed the way developers could market their apps to potential buyers and also showed that Amazon knew people loved free things. So below, we have a list of the apps that we feel were the most popular, talked about and influential here at Droid Life throughout the year.  We have tried to keep it to apps that were released this Read More
Evernote for Android was updated to version 3 way back in the middle of April. At that time, the update was described as being huge. And since then, Evernote for Android has seen some additional updates, including the one that integrated Skitch in August. And while we would like to see every update come described as being huge, this latest is on the smaller side. This latest update comes as a point release to version 3, it arrives as version 3.4 and while it is on the smaller side as compared — it seems to have a few goodies that will make it worth your time to update. That being said, Evernote for Android measures in as a 7.5M file and maintains the requirement of Android 1.6 or later for use. And as it had been in the past — Evernote remains free to download and free to use. However on Read More

My Android phone has been one of the few turning points in my blogging career. With Internet access, a hotspot and dozens of blogger-specific apps, my Android is one smartphone that keeps me working at any time (by choice or circumstance). 2011 was a big year for blogger apps as some (like WordPress) improved on existing features, while others (like Tumblr) completely revamped their Android app from the ground up. As mobile blogging really settles into its own, Android’s become a perfect playground for a generation of ready chroniclers. WordPress made an early entry onto the Android Market, and has steadily improved its mobile blogging platform accordingly. As one of the most widely-used blogging services for professionals, WordPress has a responsibility to incorporate as much of the backend functionality into its mobile version as it possibly can. 2011 brought some noteworthy updates that make its app feel more like the web Read More
Android software

Lately I’ve been asked which Android software I’m using so I directed a friend to “my 30 essential Android apps,” the post I wrote about two months ago. However, not everyone likes my list – they want something more structured. Then I prepared the “must-have Android apps” list which goes through different kinds of Android software, helping people decided what they need for what purpose. I went into details in that article and that’s also not that cool for everyone – so here’s something in between, a structured list of apps divided by categories. Browser(s) Social networking apps Mobile office client RSS & News IM & VoIP Utilities There you have it. Hopefully you’ll find something useful here. Evernote for Android is getting a rather healthy update today. They've taken three of the top requested features and gone ahead and implemented them into Evernote. So what's new? Quite a bit: Aside from the new features being added they've gone ahead and fixed a few bugs along the way. Overall, a pretty awesome update for Evernote users. If you dig using the app, you can find the download past the break waiting for you. Read More
Widgets for Android - the essential list
Calendar16 Fri, 11 Nov 2011 18:25:26 UTC +00:00
So you want to install some widgets on your Android smartphone but are not sure which ones will help you out and which ones will, well, just occupy the precious screen estate. I’ve been testing so many options and here’s my definite list of must have widgets followed by the “optional stuff,” which I don’t use but know some people who love ‘em. Without further ado, let’s roll… One of the reasons I’m using an Android smartphone rather than the iPhone is that the latter doesn’t allow me to see my tasks without starting some app. With GTasks, you get to see all of your upcoming tasks at glance, right on the homescreen. Tasks are, as expected, synchronized with Google Tasks, allowing you to manage them from your computer. I also use GTasks as my shopping list. This tiny widget shows few of your upcoming calendar entries. You can choose which Read More

What happens when an iPhone/Android app startup wants to get out of its Silicon Valley offices and into local communities to meet users, support local businesses, and see the country? A killer road trip transpires, of course. My Bizzy colleagues and I packed our bags and hit the road in a rented minivan this past July to drive cross-country from San Francisco to Boston. We hosted dinners and meet-ups in 16 cities along the way. In fact, we had such a great response that some of the team hit the road again in mid-September to travel from Portland, OR, to Seattle, WA. If you hit the road, be sure to have these apps on hand. Of course I'm going to include this. After all, we created Bizzy to allow you to easily share your experiences out and about with a simple "Check Out". Others can follow your journey and add any places they may Read More

When it comes to the matter of smartphone apps, nothing can beat the iPhone App store. But the Android Market also has more than enough apps to overwhelm you. You might have your own favorite Android smartphone apps. But if you are a bit confused with all the different apps available this year, you can check out our list of 15 of the most useful ones. The Android Market may not have as many apps as the iPhone App Store yet, but there are still more than enough to be overwhelmed, and it continues to grow at a breakneck pace. To help you sort through them all, here is my latest list of the 20 most useful Android apps (this is an update of my 2010 Android list). I’ve also recently updated my list of the most useful iPhone apps and you’ll notice several of the same apps on both lists. Remember that I primarily had business professionals in mind when making this list and also keep in mind that this is a snapshot in time. The Android platform is developing so quickly that I guarantee my home screen will look different a month from now. Still, here’s my list of tried-and-true Android apps that I can highly recommend. Life Coach Ian here with a new reading tip. If you’re the typical nerdy Android phone user, you’ll enjoy the new genre busting sci-fi novel Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Why do I mention this book in Freshies? Because today’s fresh game Space Invaders Infinity Gene embodies the strange retro-future described in the novel. So you won’t forget this advice, jot it down using the fresh Evernote update, then get popping with Bubble Pop Infinite. Back to the future, baby! This iOS hit has finally arrived on Android. It costs a wallet-busting (almost) eight bucks, but many who played it on the iPhone would say it’s worth the extra dough. It starts with the classic Space Invaders game direct from the 1980s but evolves as you play into a futuristic high-intensity shooter where anything can happen. 13 Android apps for mobile journalists - TNW Apps
Calendar16 Fri, 05 Aug 2011 16:15:01 UTC +00:00
Contrary to popular belief, the 21st century journalist isn’t all that different to the hacks of days gone by. The skills required today are broadly similar to what was needed 50 years ago – they must have meticulous attention to detail, leave no stone unturned as they strive to unravel the truth behind a story. And above all else, they must be ethically-inclined…in theory, at least. But the tools of the trade today are very different. Out is the payphone and little black book of contacts, and in is the Twitter account, smartphone and other gadgets that can transform a simple hack into an editor, reporter, cameraman, photographer…and whatever else may be required to submit a story. And in a week it was revealed that Android has almost half of the total smartphone market sewn up, here’s a look at a handful of Android apps that can help journalists harness the Read More

Android Apps Alert is typically about new apps making their way into the Android Market. But many of the big names in Android must have wanted to grab our attention this week because we saw major updates. In fact, there were so many things changing that we were forced to do a mini Alert episode in the mix of our regular app reviews. Heck, even the place where you get apps –  the Android Market – was refreshed. Fret not, folks. We’ve still got some recommendation for new or under-the-radar Android apps to check out. 3 Android apps that will increase your productivity
Calendar16 Wed, 01 Jun 2011 17:42:37 UTC +00:00
The way I see it, smartphones are productivity enhancing devices. Sure there are games — quite a few of them actually, some of which could literally eat your time — but there is also a number of apps that will help you better organize your work and life, while at the same time improving your productivity. The way I see it, if some device doesn’t help me be at least a bit more productive then I don’t buy it. Actually it’s the software rather than hardware that makes all the difference. That said today I want to present you 3 Android apps that I think make me more productive. I know there are other applications out there that can do same thing, it’s just that I’ve found these 3 to work for me. Here they are: I could also include Browser and GMail on the list — since I use them Read More

Unlike the iPhone, you can also include widgets that give you fast access to information without opening apps. Above you’ll see five of the seven screens I use daily on my ThunderBolt. These are my favorite Android apps and while there will be a few additions and removals over time, these apps have earned a spot on my home screen. On the main screen of the HTC ThunderBolt you will see my most used apps and widgets. First off you’ll notice the HTC Sense Weather and Clock Widget. This tells me the time, weather and date. When choosing a notepad app for your Android, the first thing to think about is: what kinds of notes will you be taking? Are we talking grocery lists here? Are you looking for a full-on multimedia mood board? Do you need to be able to set reminder alarms? Voice notes? The choices can be overwhelming, we know. Luckily we've done some of the research for you. Here's an inside look at five of the most popular free note-takers for your Android mobile device. Evernote, the wildly popular note-taking service, has a big following - but it hasn't really been properly adapted to the big screen, yet. We heard that was about to change back at I/O (we didn't have time to hit up the Evernote booth in the frenzy that was the conference), but the folks over at ArsTechnica sat down with the developers of Evernote and got the scoop. Update 5/29/11: The first beta download of Evernote for Honeycomb is now live - grab it from here. Evernote for Honeycomb will be bringing an awesome new rich-text editor to the app, optimized for tablet use. That means you can format text in bullets, insert images, and more. Bullets, bold text, and numbering On a phone, I think this would be of limited usefulness. I already have a hard enough time with editing my plain text in the Google Docs app. On a tablet, Read More

After Android developer Justin Case uncovered a Skype security vulnerability, the question of Android’s safety was raised once again. Inadequate security measures gave potential hackers access to private user data on Skype’s Android app, emphasizing Skype’s shortcomings, as well as Google’s. Less than a week later, Skype’s updated its Android app, and added 3G calls as a bonus feature. The White House also made things official with a new Android release. Skype has pushed through a swift update for its Android app, addressing the security loophole that recently landed the VoIP provider in hot water. Evernote takes the digital note to a new level with their 3.0 release, HowStuffWorks brings a ton of “how” knowledge to your phone with their new app, and ChoreQuest turns housekeeping into a role-playing game. There are now many synchronized note services for Android – but the first such service that made a big splash was Evernote. Instead of caving to the competition, Evernote has just catapulted version 3.0 into the Android Market with a “bring it!” challenge. This update delivers so many new features you’ll need to take a note to remember them all. It includes one touch to share a note to Facebook, the ability to tag a note to a location, creating notebooks of notes, collaborating with others to edit notebooks, enhanced search, and a pin lock to secure the app from prying eyes. Discovery Communications, owners of Discovery Channel, also have a brand called HowStuffWorks. The website Read More

Worth Reading? +1 [1 votes] Users of Evernote know how beneficial it is to save important information, images, just about anything and organizing it for easy retrieval. In today’s mobile based society, it was only a matter of time and effort before Evernote produced a mobile app. And it’s proven quite useful for users on the Android platform. Now, Evernote has introduced version 3, which offers some serious updates including sharing, improved text editing, a widget redesign, and more. The first notable feature is a share to Facebook icon. There’s also the ability to share notes email, Twitter, and more. Users can also view notes as location based items, using a Map interface. Users can also place items on a map after editing. Notebook features include improved browsing and organization. Users can add a new notebook with a press of a button and even place a notebook inside an existing notebook Read More
The Android operating system has been growing into a popular tablet platform. It hasn’t hit the sales numbers that Apple’s iPad has reached yet, but the momentum is building rapidly. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Motorola Xoom have enjoyed a measure of success, and future tablet devices from other manufacturers are soon to follow. Previously, I wrote an article on sysadmins using an Android device in place of a laptop for technical work. This time I would like to explore the workplace side of things, and see how Android can benefit the average office worker. The Android platform is well-suited to the workplace. Google has , such as remote device administration, integration with Google Apps for Business, and Google Voice. Out of the box, Android can sync with Google Apps, as well as Microsoft Exchange. Evernote (Finally) Updates Its Web Interface

Over the last few months, Evernote has rolled out new versions of its most popular apps, with redesigns to iPhone, Android, Windows, and Mac. And now it's finally time to turn to the Web version of Evernote, in what will be its first major redesign since Evernote launched. While there's been nothing wrong with the Evernote's Web interface per se, when you compare the web experience to native apps, the interface makes you happy that you have downloaded the desktop client or the mobile phone app. It's sort of dull and gray. The new interface has been revamped. It's brighter and it now has the recognizable three-panel interface. From left to right: your notebooks, your tags, your note list, and your single note view. The Web version also features Notebook Stacks (so you can easily group your Notebooks), a Snipper view (so you can see contents without having to actually open Read More

iPhone apps, Android apps, BlackBerry apps, Windows Mobile apps and Web browser apps. It seems our digital lives are surrounded and shaped by apps! Last year, in December, our very own Brad McCarty pondered on the day when web apps would replace web sites. He writes that at a time when so much of what we do is going mobile, going cloud-based and becoming accessible regardless of location, there are aspects to the application format that have to be given due attention. Kate O’Neill, Founder and CEO of [meta]marketer states, “It’s a very context-driven experience. While it could be very good, it could also be very onerous for site owners to keep up with. The question is how much value is it providing to the business of the website.” Four months later, the chatter has continued regarding the rise of web apps, and developers are looking for even more ways to augment Read More

Evernote has updated its app for BlackBerry smartphones, rolling numerous bugfixes and improvements in to the new build. Among them is an updated home screen, which now looks much more like the Evernote app for Android. Finding stellar Android apps isn't the easiest task, but that certainly doesn't mean they don't exist. Here's the cream of the crop. Twitter: The official Twitter app is good enough for almost everyone. Along with giving you a clean, easy way to keep track of your timeline and updating your status, Twitter for Android also has a snazzy swipe down to refresh feature. Free. Facebook: Facebook is finally decent on Android and now actually brings some unique features, namely the front page side-scroll of friend's recent photos and a pull up notification window. Free. Google+: It's Google's big soiree into social "sharing". The app has it all: a stream that shows what your friends are talking about (like Facebook), Huddle which is an easy to set up group chats (like GroupMe) and will even automatically upload the pictures you take on your phone to the cloud (like iCloud). Evernote, everybody's favorite note-taking app platform that allows you to record data using a variety of mediums, including notes, snapshots and recordings, released an update to the Android version of its app yesterday, with a number of advanced features many users have been clamouring for. Firstly, Evernote stores a wide variety of different types of notes and information, so it can often become difficult to locate the specific note in question. The latest update alleviates this problem by allowing users to construct advanced search parameters using filters like note tags, notebooks, attributes, location and dates. These advanced searches can then be saved to be accessed later. The advanced search feature can be accessed by navigating to Search > Advanced Search   Many notes created in Evernote are lists or "to-do lists" where tasks are periodically completed and must be "checked off". The web and desktop versions of Evernote have the ability Read More

The most important addition found in the update is support for “to-do” checkboxes at long last, one of the features that Windows and Mac users have had for quite some time. Although there are fewer apps to peruse (around 100,000 at last count), the Android Market is a nightmare to navigate compared with the iTunes App Store. Yes, even though Google is the master of search, its Android Market’s search feature is less effective than Apple’s. The Market also has no answer for the App Store’s “Staff Favorites,” “Essentials” or “New and Noteworthy” selections, which pull good apps to the front of the catalog. But that’s why I’m here. Evernote Hits 5 Million Users in Record Time
Calendar16 Fri, 12 Nov 2010 00:30:17 UTC +00:00

Evernote is now signing up new users in record time; the jump from 4 million to 5 million users happened in just 83 days. The 5 million member-moment came yesterday. The startup experienced a record-setting day of 22,130 new Evernote users — that’s roughly 10,000 more new users than the regular daily average. Evernote, which just raised an additional $20 million in funding, is in the midst of an aggressive international expansion and is seeing especially fast traction in Spain and Italy of late. As the startup continues to forge stronger presences in countries outside the U.S., we anticipate that this acceleration in new user acquisition will continue to trend upward. Read More
The Path From Apple's Newton to Evernote
Calendar16 Fri, 12 Nov 2010 00:30:13 UTC +00:00
Evernote is a smart phone app that epitomizes the modern day web service. It is used over a variety of devices, it syncs easily between those devices, it augments your daily life in ways not possible before the mobile web, it can be used equally at work or home. In an interview with Evernote CEO Phil Libin, I discovered that the genesis of Evernote is tied in with the Apple Newton - the innovative, but ultimately ahead of its time, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) from Apple from the late 80's to 90's. In Part 1 of this interview, Phil Libin explains that link to the Newton and how it ultimately led to the "secondary brain" app called Evernote. In Part 2 (to be published tomorrow) we discuss Evernote's ambitious 20-year plan. Phil Libin isn't the founder of Evernote, but he joined the company before it had a product and has been Read More

Popular note-taking and memory-aid service Evernote released an update to its Android app today. Several features and bug fixes were added, but the most noticeable change is the complete re-do of the user interface. Evernote 2.0 has a lighter UI that focuses on flat icons, space for notes, and looks better than the old version. The new UI also provides a better experience for browsing and creating notes. The clunky note creation page has been replaced by one link that allows users to create text notes or add file attachments, snapshots, and voice recordings. Users can select a notebook by tapping an icon rather than typing in the label, the notes page looks much better and is organized by date, and notes sync much faster. These are welcome changes, but it’s not all good news. While it’s great to add note shortcuts on the home screen, the new widget is arguably Read More

Colossal Improvements in Evernote's New Android App
Calendar16 Tue, 09 Nov 2010 17:31:14 UTC +00:00
Note-taking and storage platform Evernote is releasing Evernote 2.0 for Android today, touting the update as one of the company's biggest product updates to date. It's also a nod towards the rapid growth of the Android platform that more and more companies are polishing up their Android offerings. The new version has a number of key improvements, including a better interface with almost every screen. But all the key features are still in the app: the ability to take notes, snap pictures, record audio, and sync your Evernote data across devices. Your Evernote notes are now searchable via the Google Search widget on your Android's home screen. You can also create shortcuts from the home screen directly to any note or search (such as your To Do or grocery lists). And within the app, the Search button is now available at the top of every screen so you can access the Read More
Android only: Universal memory tool Evernote has finalized the features in their recent 2.0 beta, giving its free application speedier access through offline caching, a dramatically improved look and interface, home screen shortcuts, and Google search bar integration. Evernote for Android in its first release was, at best, a mostly functional, Android-sized interface for reading notes—at a speed that often seemed slower than just pulling up the Evernote site in your browser. The new release makes good on a lot of irksome failings in that release. All the metadata about your notes is now stored offline, so searching for your stuff in the app, or through your phone's general search button, happens a lot more quickly. In addition, every time you look at a note, its contents are stored offline, so you can pull it up inside the deepest, most concrete of bunkers. Most of the good new stuff is covered Read More
Evernote is just announcing a major update to their Android app that brings it up to Version 2.0. As the version number indicates, this update brings some truly significant features and tweaks to the app. Among the key changes… version 2.0 has a new, more intuitive interface, it has a cleaner home screen, you will find a new search interface, there are new views with new options and the list goes on. It also brings simpler sorting and browsing, it is dramatically faster, it offers offline note storage and it brings background syncing. Over all this update brings many of the features on par with the solid and more “mature” Evernote for iPhone app while also taking advantage of some of the Android-specfic features that are available on that platform. There are other new features however that push this version of Evernote past the iPhone app. Key among them… with the Android Read More
Evernote 2.0 Comes to Android
Calendar16 Mon, 08 Nov 2010 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
by Evernote, the popular notetaking and archiving utility, has released a massive update to its app for Android. Like its predecessors, Evernote 2.0 for Android lets users take notes, shoot photos, record audio and access their archives on the go, but a number of enhancements are contained behind its streamlined home screen. The most substantial update comes by the way of speed. Rather than downloading all of your notes, the app caches all the data about your notes. By indexing the notational metadata, like tags, titles and thumbnails, version 2.0 can quickly search for any information that you’ve stored on the service, without first having to access the Evernote servers. A new search magnifying glass is featured in the top right corner of every screen. Aside from common search functions, like saved searches, it enables searching for notes tagged with geodata taken near the user’s current location. Also included in the Read More
The folks at Evernote have rolled out version 2.0 of the Android mobile client, a major update that lets premium users keep notebooks on the phone for access without network connectivity. The new version integrates more closely with Android than previous versions, with Google search results showing returns from the user’s own Evernote notes alongside normal Google search results. Evernote is the cross-platform freemium note-taking system that has millions of users. While the Mac and Windows desktop clients are robust, the mobile clients (for most smartphone platforms) have been more limited in functionality, designed primarily to provide simple note-taking capability on the go and access to the cloud storage. Evernote 2.0 for Android extends the mobile capability, and adds the ability to fully reference the user’s stored notes along with extended note creation functions. I have been using an advance copy of Evernote 2.0 on my Android phone, and the interface Read More

Top 30 Android Apps Of All Time

Editor’s note: This guest post was written by Alex Ahlund (@alexahlund), the former CEO of AppVee and AndroidApps, which were acquired by mobile app directory Appolicious. He is currently an advisor to Appolicious. In his previous guest posts, he gave us his picks for top iPhone apps. With the ubiquitous media coverage surrounding the iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) app market, it’s important to remember that Android also is making huge headway. More than 100,000 apps are now available in the Android Market. Within the last six months, Android devices have reigned supreme, comprising 32 percent of all new smartphone purchases. There is finally a larger selection of models being manufactured and more carriers offering them. When the first Android device launched, I predicted that the OS would surpass iPhone in the coming years. While this looks to be true, those of us involved in the app industry are concerned with Read More
Some of us get our best ideas in the weirdest of places. Whether it's on a train heading into town or while we're on the run (literally), many of these ideas quickly slip away before we have a chance to grab a pen and paper. Evernote, thankfully, turns your phone into a nearly perfect thought-recording device. Whether you prefer typing notes, taking pictures, or recording audio, Evernote makes it super-easy to capture any idea in real time, and then sync it with your computer (Mac/PC), iPhone or Android. However, it's not perfect. The app lacks any kind of sorting or organization tool for your notes. Plus, the app is useless without an always-on Internet connection and an Evernote account. Finally, older notes sometimes have the nagging habit of being unavailable. The folks at Evernote Corp. have pledged gobs of cash to upgrade and extend the capabilities of this popular application, however, Read More
Android: Evernote's offering a sneak preview at the 2.0 release of their Android capture client, and few will have reason to shun the beta peek. It syncs your notes for faster access, makes navigation much easier, and looks a whole lot better. You'll have to grab the app yourself to get an impression of how much better Evernote 2.0 feels from the standard release that's in the Market, but the interfaces for every function have been improved. No more dumbphone-looking screens for entering new notes, for instance. There's a more intuitive search function, and capturing new notes directly from the app, or the home screen widget, seems to move a bit smoother. The full list of changes is offered at the Evernote forums, but you can feel free to tell us what you like, or find missing, in the comments. Evernote 2.0 beta is a free download for Android phones—you'll need Read More

Your Android is supposed to keep you instantly connected to your digital life. It can do that, but it needs some help. These best-of-class applications make sending files, syncing music, swapping web sites, and other phone-computer hook-ups so much easier. Even though Android allows for removable SD card storage, and is a lot more open than the iPhone when it comes to file storage, very few people carry a USB cable or micro-SD converter card everywhere they go. Nor should they, since these apps make it easier to send files and ideas between two different screen sizes. After you install Dropbox on your various laptop and desktop systems, then add the Android app to your phone, you'll occasionally wonder why USB cables still exist. Simply place a file in your Dropbox folder (or elsewhere on your system), and it shows up on your phone. Dropbox on Android also comes with built-in Read More
Who couldn't use a good bargain these days? We pull out a few free and inexpensive smartphone apps that make shopping a little less of a chore.  Barcode readers     (free for iPhone): Think "red laser" as in the laser in the scanner at the cash register. By tapping the lightning bolt on the screen and steadying the phone's camera over a barcode, you can get details in a flash. If the camera isn't picking up the barcode, you can tap in the digits in the code. You can create wish lists of your scans and e-mail your list. It's a great tool for comparison shopping online -- and offline. There's a "local" feature that looks for your products at nearby locations using the location services of your phone.  On many food items, RedLaser calls up nutritional information. Of course, it doesn't always find what you're looking for, but we've had Read More

Almost everyone has to manage multiple devices in their day-to-day lives. Desktops, laptops, tablets and handsets are the usual suspects, each with its own purpose. With such an array of hardware, staying organized can be problematic. These Android apps will help streamline the digital media and services you use daily right to your phone so you can use your Android as the center of your multi-platform lifestyle.  The poster child for sync service finally released its Android app. Dropbox lets you create a folder, with up to 2 GB of space for the free version, and share it with all your Web-enabled devices. I have been using Evernote as part of my daily life for about four months now. After reading about it on such sites as Lifehacker and 43 Folders and hearing of an Android app in the works, I decided to make the plunge. Evernote allows you to store and organize your notes in the cloud so you can retrieve them later anywhere easily. A note can be any bit of text, audio, a screenshot, etc. You enter these into Evernote through the use of a computer application, web browser plug-in or mobile app. Evernote then indexes the information automatically (or you can do it yourself) so you can find it when you need it. One neat feature is that it will even figure out text in a photo and use that information. Obviously, in order to be be able to recall the information when and where you want, a mobile app Read More
If you’re looking for a note-taking Android Application and ask around, chances are someone will direct you to Evernote. It does a lot more than just take notes: Evernote for Android is a free application that allows individuals to create notes, snap photos, and record audio. Users can instantly find any notes that were created on their phone, desktop computer, or the web. In addition, Evernote automatically makes snapshots containing printed or handwritten text searchable — great for business cards, whiteboards and wine labels. The company has joined forces with Samsung and many of the manufacturer’s Android handsets will now come pre-installed with the application. The Samsung Behold 2 for T-Mobile recently enjoyed a software updated and Evernote was included in the package, becoming the first to incorporate the new partnership. Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote, commented on the development: “We’re incredibly excited to be working closely with Samsung on their Read More
In a little bit of good news, Evernote has released a version of their Android app earlier today. But, I should point out that it is still in beta and therefor limited in functionality. As of now the app cannot be found in the Market, instead users willing to give this a try will have to head on over to the Evernote Forums where the will find two options for installation. In terms of what you can expect should you go ahead with the install, unfortunately it looks like it is capture only at this point. In other words, you can capture and save a new text note, audio note, snapshot or upload a file. The drawback here is that you cannot access or view your currently saved notes directly in the app. For that you will still need to visit the mobile Evernote site. All in all, I am disappointed Read More
Evernote users, and those that have been curious can now head on over to the Market to download and install the Evernote app. It seems Evernote for Android has left the beta stage and is now available as a regular Market app, and the latest version is 1.1.5. Those that have been using the beta will already know the good parts about using Evernote, however for those that may not be as familiar — think digital brain. Evernote, along with the Android app will allow you to capture image notes, upload files, text notes and even audio notes and in turn have them saved in the cloud. Evernote is a cross platform solution that runs on Mac, Windows, has numerous browser extensions and a nice website. It also runs on a variety of mobile platforms. And what that means is you can upload your note, and then get access to it Read More

A service or an app getting a deal that means they will be pre-installed on a handset or a device is a big deal, and that is what has recently happened with the Evernote app for Android. According to a recent post over on the Evernote Blog, it looks like the Evernote app will begin coming pre-installed on Android based Samsung phones with T-Mobile. And the first to receive the app will be the Behold II. Those currently using the Behold II will be getting an update that will include the Evernote app. Of course it can also be download from the Market. Finally, for those that are not as familiar with the Evernote service. Why does the update want to read my contact data??? I will not update until this is removed. Also no offline support makes this useless. 3banana FTW!

Love Evernote but this Android isn't as refined as its iPhone counterpart. Note append vs. Edit is one glaring flaw. Otherwise workable.

Beware of data loss! The app for Android is just okay. You can add images to a note, but can't specify where. You can't add notebooks or make other high-level changes (you need the web interface). For these reasons and more I'd give it no more than three stars any way. Why the 1 star? In my last sync I lost ALL NOTES created since the earlier sync. On it with tech support, but no hope in sight. I've since moved on to OI Notepad: basic but allows tags, works with OI File Manager, writes to SD, and needs no internet rights.

Note sharing only available on Android, desktop or web (not iPhone, iPad or Win 7 phone). A little buggy. Better than any other note app I have found.

Fantastic I no longer have to use my bookmarks on my browser. With this awesome app I can access my favorite websites no matter what device I'm using. One simple thing to consider: regular people browse internet not only in different devices but also in different browsers, and it's hard to keep bookmarks in sync across all platforms. Not anymore. Evernote solved this brilliantly. Very easy to use, fun, incredibly intuitive, great design for the tablet version. (Honeycomb).

This application deserves 5 stars even if it was a paid application, but because it's free, it should really get more than that.
