FIrst I tried to install it on my phone, it woudl fail on install over and over again. So I tried it on my tablet, really it just the messages button feature removed from the main app. Secondly I did a bit of looking found out why many can not install it, it shows up for us that have 2.1 installed but the "android:minSdkVersion" set in the manafest file is set to 8, so why show it to 2.1 users if the min is 2.2 (not facebook issue per say, a market issue)

I'm not sure why this isn't incorporated into the Facebook app to replace the buggy chat system that's already there. It just seems unnecessary to have more than one app for the same social network. Overall though, this is a great app. I would give it a five star rating if there was a way to appear offline to the chat instead of it always saying you're logged in on your mobile all day long. The only option I see is to log off, but that un-synchronizes everything and I don't want to do that.

I find this app to be very great and useful as well, what I love most about it are the instant push notifications I get on my phone when someone sends me a message on fb. Previously I was hooked to 3rd party chat apps like Nimbuzz n eBuddy but they all seem to eat up battery life when left running 24/7 but the fb messenger app hardly consumes any batt life infact I don't see any difference at all in batt having it on or off. And for those saying they can't see online buddies, simply hit the new message icon n it will show u a list of ur regular contacts n online contacts!

Firstly, message notificaions are immediate unlike the other app which takes 10mins +, and secondly it loads quicker than the other app and less time is spent getting to the messages. Only problem tht really bothers me is the consistency. Sometimes it lets me know when I have a message and sometimes it doesn't...also its very slow at times and is constantly telling me my message wasn't sent. I have a fiance in afghanistan so I depend on this to work at its best!

Works great, computer app is better of course, but works as expected on my Droid Bionic. The ultimate fb messenger that I've ever used on my DX or DB however, has been application. There's a free version too. This app works really well and I'd recommend this to anyone using a DROID X or Bionic. I know they work well on these two devices. I'm quite sure they work just as well on all newer Android dual core devices running AndroidOS 2.3 or >

I can easily chat with my friends and family like I would on fb. Its made communication with my husband my more simple. It has't failed us yet. The only problem we have is that he's on the other side of the planet and the service sucks there. This app is great.

It is basically a separate short cut to your fb inbox/chat. Personally I found it convenient since I always feel the FB app runs rather slow. Would be better if there's notification other than vibrate.

This app makes me mad everytime i need to chat with 2+ friends, i get "not sent" errors all the time, takes too long to send messages, has a bug when trying to delete a "failed to send" message. Has a better interface than facebook main app, but its too messed up for now.

It's almost perfect app - easy to use, most of the times fast and is stable. The only things I don't like are that there isn't good synch between the platforms and the old msgs are really messed around the chat and inbox. And this app doesn't like slow 3G networks.

Awesum...but mayb a custom easy access list 2 friends in the "new message" screen. And anothr lil detail, when browsing messages n click 1 for details n then hit back it shows most recent messages again. Means have to scroll all da way back up again.

Facebook messenger worked great at first then I wan't getting alerts then I had to manually refresh to get my messages. reinstalled last night and it worked again w/o issues, but I'm not banking it will keep working

I've been pretty happy with this app, with one small exception. This probably won't affect many people, but if you are trading messages with someone who isn't already on your friends list, you don't get a notification that the message has arrived. You can still use the app to read/reply, but only after opening it and manually refreshing the list.

Almost 5 stars from me, the only thing i could have liked to see in this app, is an alert setting possibility to have alerts on in a conversation, but instead of the whole message beeing displayed in the notification bar, only the new chat icon could pop up.. Other than that, LOVE this app!

Just like the normal message area in the Facebook app as far as I can see but i think it works its better for re-viewing messeges as you dont have to load up the facebook page so it saves battery and data (works offline)

Really good app best fb chat app so far and it works great on my phone. Also gives you the opportunity to hide location and let's you know if your chatting to someone via their mobile chat or if they are actually online on fb.

Idk if its just me but the timing is messed up, like for example ill send a message and it will keep saying sent "just now" even though ot was sent like 5 mins ago, and it only changes if I restart the app. Its a small complaint though, I still love this app. :)

You have to press return like a 10 times before you can come out of a message and off messenger, it is delayed so when I'm already on facebook and receive a message it let's me know I had that message like 15 mins later meanwhile I have replied and had a full blown conversation since that initial message! Otherwise very handy and useful :)

OK, this is much better than the messaging built into the facebook app (which sucks btw) but messenger is quite slow at sending the messages so by the time they have sent, the message you're replying has gone. Also it tells me a lot that messages have not been sent when they have. Fix.

This is the worst app I've ever installed. And I always consider my network connection before assuming this. Messenger now has double the lag time (which was already 7-15 min behind) Now, it has a 20-30 min lag & notification takes longer. Constant force closing. Absolutely terrible. It's the only app I'm having trouble with.

Only tiny issues. The messages recieve straight away, I can post messages easily (they finally widened the "Write a message" box! Its very stylish, log in is very fast! Only thing wrong is that it keeps saying "Message not sent" went it actually was sent! But otherwise it's a brilliant app.. I recommend it to every facebook lover out there! Thank you Facebook.

This is a reliable and well designed app however, it is fairly power hungry. I've noticed the app uses quite a bit of data (like most apps that use push services) but this app also likes to chomp through your battery life. Hence 4 stars.

The updates were good kind of.. the new visual design looks nice but sometimes has problems logging in, it also logs you out without hitting log out and the messages can come up late up to 5 mins even when im in a area of good connection. The facebook app works better really, it jus needs to be quicker with the messages cause im not the only one that experiences that. It works fine from time to time but it recieves AND sends messages REALLY late sometimes even wit good signal which is what they need to fix

I've had this on my phone for a while and recently it started force closing itself ALL THE TIME. I had to uninstall it to stop it from doing it because even when I wasn't using it the force close notification would appear out of nowhere. Very sad because I loved it! Please fix if able! As of the last update, this app opens the splash screen and promptly crashes. Had to reinstall to get it working again. Facebook Messenger works with relative temporal accuracy in pushing messages to my phone. Slightly better than Facebook for Android's, but not by much.

Great app much more convenient however one negative is that it displays your location to anyone your chatting to. So remember to turn this feature off manually or you will have your location displayed to people you don't neccessary want displaying to.

Back button wont always take you back. Cant disable notification for unsent messages. Some messages sent will show as unsent. If someone send a message when you talk to another one you wont see that notification.

The app is great. I think it's awesome to have a sharing option on the shell, so you can easily share a photo right after taking it with a specific person on your list. Though it's not understandable that you can't turn it of completely, at least the notifications. It's quite boring to be chatting on the desktop and getting notifications on your phone every second.

After I recently did an update on this app I noticed that the preview screen showing when I have a new message shows all the text in a bright white color! Obviously a little hard to read :/ Once the actual app opens the text is in black however and it functions fine. Not sure if its just a glitch or a new "feature" I will just have to get used to...

i reinstalled it coz i find it better to use than the fb messenger shortcut. good thing fb removed those shortcuts in their recent update. this is a great app but the notification alert failed to function like it used to be. in my setting a ringtone must be played when a message arrived but it would just vibrate even though vibrate alert is deactivated. and it failed to show in the status bar that i have received a message please fix. thanks

What happened to being able to send messages to mobile contacts? None of them are showing up. Some other needed features are - Available or away statuses, silent all messages until a set time (Not just 1 hour or till 8AM), and video sharing. As for privacy issues, I guess an option to not show send receipts would satisfy people but honestly I would just be annoyed at friends who turned it off. LOL

The notification and alert works as in Gtalk chat. In the facebook for android, when I receive a new msg an alert is not displayed on android notification system, and that sucks, because is the only reasson that make have this app install. It works generally fine, except when you're in a conversation the other person sees you as "online" in the chat. That would be fine if I could disable it, instead the other person keeps flooding me with messages because they think I'm online.

Unlike the official Facebook app, this app does me a world of good. In combination with Google Voice, anyone can ditch their carrier texting plan. My only gripe is that this is a separate app at all. Just like the facebook appliaction, this messenger loads information very slowly. I don't wanna believe that all good web developers have left facebook for other developing companies and left facebook with poor software engineers. Hey there, gather up and surprise us by a usable application!

I updated & now I can not get to Facebook. Going to take the battery out of my phone & see if THAT fixes the problem since turning my phone off and back on did not fix the problem. Also... In using this application... Am I charged for TEXTING now??

As the title suggests, the app doesn't always give you a notification when you receive a message. Its a shame because its a great app otherwise. Until its fixed only 2 stars though

This is by far the best android chat app on the market! If I was going to improve it would be to make it when you click on the notification, it came up as a floating window so it does not interrupt what you are doing. Because I was watching the TV on my tablet and when I got a message I clicked on it and brings up a window. But over all fantastic app :-)

This is unbelievable! This app is so slow, even using WiFi, wtf? before used to load in 1 or 2 seconds but now?, zzzzzzzz. and alerts? nevet happens. At least the goog thing was removed those camera and chat. that was stupid.

Are the teams for this app and the FB official app separate or something? Because this app is leaps and bounds ahead of the main fb app in terms of responsiveness, UI, usability and reliability. It's actually semi ICS styled! Does the job fine, don't need to replace it with a third party app like I did with the main fb app (Friendcaster).

Loving the quick east access to my messages but for some reason when i downloaded this app there were 2 of them and when i deleted one they both went away, it did this on my sisters phone and she has a droid and I have an EVO so its not the phone, but other then that its awesome

I like the new update because I can now see when my friends read my message and know that they got the message. Its quite useful and handy. Some of the things that I don't like in the new update is that I don't always get notifications as to when I actually receive messages. All in all great app. Keep up the good work.

I like this app. Its nice and easy and quick too. A must for facebook fans everywhere. It also has an option that tells your friends where you sent the message from. I'd like to be ableto turn this feature off, but as far as I know of, you can't.

i always get that "your message has not been sent" but i see him replying to what i just actually sent. lol. also, i cant chat with my groups. there is a group conversation where you manually select peolpe to conversate with but group chat is different. you know what im talking about facebook. :D keep it up!

This app was working great until the last update...now its slow as hell to load up fb and I dont get half of my notifications and more often than Id like, it says it cant connect, regardless of whether I have full 3g signal or full wifi.......

It says my message wasnt sent alot, even tho the other person responds. And (this might bb my phone) then the notification for the failed message wont go away. Also for certain people i am not nnotified even tho i ask for notifications for that chat. Please fix
