Not working
mmauersberg 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I can't connect to my Mac with it - the quick start guide is not very helpful. I hope there'll be an update soon.
Doesn't connect
Rocktboy 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I can't connect to my machine over the local network.. Says connection refused yet I can connect with my MacBook pro.
Needs to support Apple file sharing
Panjandrum 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Unfortunately it turns out that this really only supports SMB. To use it with a Mac you have to turn on Windows file sharing, which I specifically never do for security reasons (if you want to see a huge spike in attacks against your network just open the ports necessary to use SMB over the internet!). So this gets one star from me until the developer bothers to support the protocols of the company which builds the very device they wrote the software for!! It gets even worse. Probably because the developers failed to support AFP, this product sees iWork packages (probably all packages) as folders! Did the developers bother to test this at all?
Be Warned
Mootcycle 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
Be warned; version 1.1 of this app does not work with the smb implementation on the Airport Extreme, nor does it support AFP. I purchased it to access files on my AEBS NAS, but it is worthless to me. This app has never successfully connected to the share (which works fine for my other Mac, Linux, and Windows machines.) The app does connect to test smb shares I set up on other machines, and the interface is nice, but this doesn't do me any good. All the files I want to access are on the Airport Extreme disk.
Can you slideshow photo directory
babrams 3.0 stars Version: 1.2
Nice program. Bought because others recommended. Once I go to a photo folder, can I slideshow the photo's? So far, I see it only shows one photo at a time and I have to go back to the directory to choose another photo. Is that how it currently works?
Just good idea
Denisak11 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Not bad, needs a lots of improvements.
Magical!
YoshiLaw 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is THE Mac Finder App that I have been hoping to find. It was a challenge for me to setup, but after three quick and thorough emails from the support group (on Easter Sunday!), I got it. Everything works perfectly. I see my iMac files remotely on my iPad, I can save those files to work remotely on the iPad with iWork Apps, and everything transfers nicely. Now that is magical: every iPad should add this App!
Promising but...
Bazb 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Like most iPad apps just now this app is promising but flawed. There's no support for viewing avi files, and a no support for bonjour so you have to manually type in your server addresses. When viewing PDFs the page up and down also seems kind of broken, particularly if you center content on a page and then hit down, it just seems to take you somewhere fairly random. Not there's much competition just now, and I'm sure it'll improve quickly.
Does what was promised...
perlfox 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
This is a decent file browser. Very useful to transfer/view files in a pinch. Some room for improvement though: AFP support would be nice, as would smb workgroup discovery.
SMB works for me!
Issacsim 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
this app is worthy of my first review! I was connected to my ReadyNAS within 30 seconds after installing this app. A+++
File browser
lcs002 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
This program is real cool!! Before I had to fire up my MacBook to be able to view files In 2 seconds I had connection to my server and NAS box and was able to view all my documents. Great job!!!!
Good app could use some more features
dlangh 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
Overall it fits the bill for me. I did find it a bit frustrating that AFP wasn't supported. For those who are stuck with files on an airport drive, if you have a computer that you can access them through I was able to do the following to expose those drives through a Mac mini I have - create shell script that mounts the shares using mount-AFP. Remember to create to empty folder your going to mount into first in the script - set the script to run on startup as a launch daemon - after i got this working, it still wouldn't show the drives via my mini so i created a drives folder then created symbolic links to each AFP share i mounted and it worked and best of all it will survive a reboot and still be available Some features i would like to see in this would be - thumbnail view - yes AFP support - support for FTP or even better sftp
Doesn't auto discover shares
Mr. Easy 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
Disappointing. I expected it to work like other smb browsers.
I can edit Pages docs
GraceLS 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Very nice app. Got it working (once I figured out SMB with help from responsive tech support). Works as advertised. Fast. Not only copies Pages documents but lets me open them in Pages. This is exactly what I needed. Did I mention good email tech support, too? Definitely a first screen app (my favs go there).
Crashes airport USB disk
Senksert 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
Timeouts when it tries to connect to a USB disk connected to airport extreme and makes the disk inaccessible to any computer. It also shows many files and folders multiple times. The software is super buggy.
great customer support
jf7483jf 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
This product works exactly as described. I am able to access my Mac Pro and all of its drives via the iPad. While configuring the app I sent an installation question to Filebrowser tech support and received a response within just a few hours. Equally important, the response helped with my issue.
needs Bonjour, AFP, & WebDAV support
ddm/mf 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
Still no mention in app description of these limitations, particularly no AFP, major oversight. Once these are added, I'll give it a much higher rating.
V1.1 still has blank screen at startup
Z4GUN 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
Needs some work
Just what I needed!
Casa De Trevino 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I needed an app that would allow me to transfer my .doc and .pages files from my Macbook to iPad. This app does the trick perfectly. MS Word files and iWork files can be viewed within the app's built in browser or opened in Pages. And they can be edited. And the files stay on your iPad, so you don't have to have wifi to access them after the initial transfer. I love it. The one thing I would like to see is the ability to move entire folders at once instead of having to transfer one file at a time.
Nice but Fail
CHI3F 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
The app has a nice interface and most of the reviews were positive so i took the dive. Thank goodness it wasnt pricey because this app flat out doesn't work. It tells me I have the wrong password for an account that I always use and I know is the right password. It does this for any account I try to access.
Works in Texas
Txarcher 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Excellent! Quick and easy setup. Connected to my Windows 7 boxes with no issues. This iPad is my second Apple product and I really like it. Now that I can get to all my windows files I like even more. Thanks for good product at a very good price!
Very Handy Program
Sethran 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
I've only used it on Windows systems but it works very well. Great way to not have to keep all my PDF files on my iPad. Viewer is function but it's nice that you can open in another program. Definitely worth the price if you need to view files on your network.
Good way of sharing
B Liddell 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
Super easy to set up if you own a Mac. I went to their website and they give you Mac directions. Wish you could sort the folders on the local iPad drive yourself rather than the the unmanageable alphabetical default. Likely will come with updates hopefully. Nice job guys, this is exactly what I was looking for!
This is what I wanted my iPad to do from Day 1
TheJerry 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Works great. Enter a machine name and credentials it connects very fast and shows all SMB shares. Blazingly fast. I went to my main text and picture repostiory on my file server which is millions of files in hundreds of thousands of directories and this thing builds the list/sorts and move through faster than my PC or Mac can. The whole point of why I waited for an iPad was so that I could wifi browse my files on my server and read (or view movies/listen to music) in a chair in my living room/bedroom/patio without having to do some sort of crazy synching process. This allows that. I seriously can't believe apple didn't include this capability from Day 0. It's so obviously needed, and this program provides it to SMB users. I'd have understood if on day 0 the ipad had supported idisk and AFP, but not SMB. Funny thing is, now on day 2 (or whenever this was released) SMB on the iPad is ahead of apple's own protocols/services thanks to Stratospherix. With FileBrowser I can browse to my iTunes library on my file server and play files off the server...Apple: why can't I do that in "iPod" or "iTunes" why can't I stream my iTunes I am looking forward to natural growth and improvements in this program...but it's great right now. Wishlist...not all of which can Stratospheric do, some requires Apple, when viewing images etc. A next/previous button would be nice, or if photos could use the shares that FileBrowser sees then that. E.g. slideshow a picture library Same for songs/music on the server. I'd like it to just keep going to the next, or have a next button/previous button. OR maybe integrate to iPod or something (Apple?) again not sure how far Stratosphereix can take it. And well..seriously that's my main thing, if I could next/previous files in the previewer or slideshow, then that would be perfect. There are a few minor bugs to fix yet, where things don't always return properly from the previewer etc....but those can be dealt with by going to "Home" and restarting. I'd say this is a MUST HAVE product if your home network (or office network) has Windows Shares.
