TiPb Picks of the Week
Calendar16 Sun, 06 Mar 2011 17:50:03 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Sunday, Mar 6, 2011 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! I’ve always been a huge fan of Digitally Imported, more lovingly known to many as di.fm. I’m an even bigger fan of almost any type of electronic music. It’s the main thing I listen to. I have always streamed from Digitally Imported from iTunes at home and work. The iPhone app for Digitally Imported makes it even easier to listen to all my favorite di.fm stations. I love the fact I can use it in Read More
By Kyle Flanigan on October 7th, 2010 Mozilla update their latest application, providing a number of new features as well as now offering worldwide availability. The team also announced their development roadmap, outlining what we can expect in future releases. Mozilla, developers of the popular desktop web browser Firefox, have updated their application Firefox Home to offer worldwide availability in fifteen different languages, as well as providing a number of new features. The latest update, 1.0.2, includes a smarter search bar, meaning users only have to remember part of a URL rather than the beginning of it, and “instant access to open tabs, just the way you left them on your PC” (Mozilla). The application is built to compliment Firefox for desktop, allowing users to sync “browsing history, bookmarks and open tabs to your iPod or iPod Touch” (Mozilla). It’s free to download both the application from the App Store and Read More
As Sebastian jaunts around Montenegro snapping photos, the task has fallen to me to cover this week's spate of Firefox news... So grab your stuffed Foxkeh and pull up a chair -- it's time for the Friday Five! ... Which is great news! I've been using Firefox 4 for my primary browser since the first beta builds showed up on the Mozilla nightly servers. It's fast and as customizable as it ever was, and Sebastian even discovered that its hardware acceleration performance was right up there with Internet Explorer 9's. Beta 2 was actually slated for release today, but the download page is still serving up b1. When it's ready, you'll find Firefox 4 beta 2 at getfirefox.com/beta/. As with many good changes, however, all the improvements in Firefox 4 can't come with some kind of trade off... Right? Firefox Home for iPhone now available in the App Store
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Jul 2010 18:49:13 UTC +00:00
It looks like Apple has approved the Firefox Home app. And just a reminder—its not a full browser. That said, it still seems like it will be a decent app for Firefox users that are also sporting an iPhone. Personally it would have been nicer to see this launch as a universal app with iPad support, but I guess we cannot expect everything. Moving on though, the Firefox Home app will give you access to items including your Firefox desktop history, bookmarks and any open tabs. Basically, your desktop version of Firefox syncs with the cloud, which in turn gives you the access while on the go from your iPhone (or iPod touch). A nice plus for when you have a few tabs open and have to run out for a while. Of course, that ends up meaning you are likely to take work with you sometimes. In all, the setup Read More
Firefox Home for iOS Is Out, Strange
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Jul 2010 17:30:02 UTC +00:00
By Chris Hall on July 16th, 2010 Firefox Home is a strange endeavor into the internet. Even the app is wondering why you aren't using Safari. Every once in a while I run into a website, or a function within a website, that doesn’t work right in Safari. Yes, I’m a Mac user that doesn’t use Safari. Because of this, it occurred to me that having Firefox on my phone might be a great idea, and maybe I would enjoy the web experience a bit more. I’ve never had any real issues with iOS Safari, but it never hurts to try something new. So I downloaded Firefox Home and found that I had to also download the Firefox extension, Firefox Sync, which was a simple task. After setting up my Firefox “server”, I was brought to the “browser” screen (I put quotes around browser, because it is definitely not a full Read More
Good afternoon! I have good news and bad news. This will be my last Firefox Friday for July, because I'm going on holiday. Lee and Matthew will pick up the slack while I'm gone. A different point of view is interesting and I thoroughly look forward to reading the column while on vacation, sprawled across a babe-blanketed balmy beach somewhere in Eastern Europe... Anyway, there's a lot of stuff to cover this week, so let's dive right in with the most pertinent morsel! 1. Get it while it's hot! It's free (obviously), and promises to revolutionize your mobile Web experience. Here's a direct iTunes link if you want to dive right in. We've already covered Firefox Home a bunch of times, so I'll spare you the details and jump right into the next juicy bit of Firefox news. Web apps-in-a-tab are the next stage in the 'platformication' of browsers, and thanks Read More
Firefox Home for iPhone Now Available in iTunes
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Jul 2010 15:04:55 UTC +00:00
Just two weeks after it was officially announced, Firefox Home is now available for the iPhone through the iTunes store. What does it do? Well, if you’re an avid Firefox user and you wish you could just take all your bookmarks and open tabs with you when you leave your computer, you can. The app allows you to access all of that stuff while on the go through your iPhone. Now you’ll have all the Firefox goodness along with the Awesome Bar for seamless browsing across devices. Here are instructions straight from Mozilla on how to get started and get rolling: There you have it. Once you get it going, let us know how you like it. – Download Firefox Home for iPhone – [iTunes Link] Marc has been a mobile fanatic for the better part of a decade and has had more devices pass through his hands than he would Read More
Just yesterday I was musing about why Firefox Home had yet to appear in the App Store, and today ! Approval was pretty much a foregone conclusion: like Opera's app, Firefox Home is not actually a browser and doesn't utilize any undocumented APIs. Both apps were designed from the get-go to be approved -- and, ultimately, they were. Don't worry, you're free to install both on your iPhone or iPod touch without fear of a great chasm opening up beneath your feet and swallowing you whole. Two interesting notes about Firefox Home: running on iOS 4 on my iPod touch, it crashes. A lot. It's surprising, really, because compiling the pre-approval code from Mozilla and loading it went very smoothly and I didn't experience the crashing -- but I was running OS 3 at that point. The other thing? Like so many other apps which don't merit them, Apple has slapped Read More
Mozilla, the company behind the world's second most-popular browser, writes this morning that it is "happy to announce that the wait is over." Firefox, its open-source entry into the browser market, has made its way onto the iPhone and iPod Touch. Before you get too excited, it's not as a browser, but as a companion to Firefox on your desktop, giving you mobile access to all of the details normally saved at home. Firefox Home works with the free Firefox add-on Firefox Sync, and brings all the details from your desktop to your iPhone or iPod Touch. It has all of your bookmarks, your browsing history and even the tabs that are currently open on your desktop browser. The app also has an "Awesome Bar", just as in Firefox, which tries to predict what you are looking for while you type. If you don't have Firefox Sync already installed, the first Read More
Firefox Home available for iOS
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Jul 2010 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
Firefox Home is now available for iOS. Although not a full-featured web browser in its own right, the app is probably as close as we're going to get to running Firefox on an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. Firefox Home is a strange app, so first let's look at what it is. According to the description at Mozilla's page, "Firefox Home provides access to your Firefox desktop history, bookmarks and open tabs on your iPhone." So virtually all Firefox data on your Mac or PC transfers to the cloud and gets synced to Firefox Home... at least after you download and install the Firefox Sync add-on, restart Firefox, set up a Firefox Sync account, then enter your Firefox Sync username, password, and secret phrase into Firefox Home on your iPhone/iPod touch. It's not terribly complicated, but anyone used to the one-click simplicity of syncing Safari on the Mac with Safari in Read More
Syncing Bookmarks on Your iPhone: Firefox Home and Xmarks
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Jul 2010 11:46:38 UTC +00:00
Posted 07/16/2010 at 3:46am | by J.R. Bookwalter This week, syncing bookmarks from your desktop computer to your iPhone just got incredibly easier, thanks to two new App Store arrivals in the form of Firefox Home and Xmarks. Late Thursday, Apple finally approved the long-awaited Firefox Home, a free app that syncs to your Firefox browser on the desktop and allows you to access that application’s history, bookmarks and open tabs, exactly the way you left them on your computer. “Get up and go and have everything waiting for you on your iPhone,” the Firefox Home app description promises. “Firefox Home is secure from end-to-end so your data is always safe. And, of course, it’s free.” In addition to accessing open tabs and tapping on your bookmarks, Firefox Home also gives you quick access to your favorite and important sites thanks to their “Awesome Bar” -- just start typing! Likewise, the Read More
Apple approves Firefox sync app
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Jul 2010 11:45:30 UTC +00:00
Firefox Home syncs open tabs, shown here, and bookmarks. Apple may not be happy about letting other browsers on the iPhone, but it approved an application from Mozilla that synchronizes bookmarks and open tabs with versions of Firefox running elsewhere. Synchronization is of growing importance as people use more computing devices in their lives--not just home and work computers, but now also mobile phones, TVs, and tablets. Firefox Sync is arriving in Firefox 4, and Google is building similar sync tools into Chrome. The granddaddy of browser sync tools, Xmarks, can bridge across Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari. Not all sync is the same, though: bookmarks and tabs are one area, but sync also can extend to passwords, browsing history, and other aspects of browser use. Although there's no Firefox for iOS, Mozilla has released a version for Nokia devices running the Maemo operating system that's on the way to Read More
Firefox Home iPhone dispo sur l’App Store
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Jul 2010 10:34:37 UTC +00:00
Read More
Firefox Home Is Now in the App Store
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Jul 2010 03:42:00 UTC +00:00
by We’ve just learned that Firefox Home [iTunes link] has been accepted to Apple’s App Store. This is Mozilla’s first submission to the App Store; the app was submitted 15 days ago. Fennec is Mozilla’s official mobile browser; it’s still in its early stages of testing and development. The Firefox Home app isn’t a browser itself, but it will help Apple mobile users get access to their Firefox bookmarks, browsing history and open tabs — all from within Mobile Safari. It features an “Awesome Bar” for finding your favorite websites (as determined by how frequently you visit them while browsing from your desktop or laptop computer). Firefox Home is able to accomplish all this through the Firefox Sync add-on, which relays your browsing information and actions to the cloud for later retrieval from various devices. If you don’t have Sync, you’ll have to download it and restart Firefox before using Firefox Read More

No, this isn’t a new Firefox browser for iPhone (which would be blocked by Apple). Instead, it’s a syncing application that gives you access to all of your Firefox bookmarks, history, and even the tabs you have open on your PC’s Firefox browser.  Tapping on one of the links will open the page in iPhone’s Mobile Safari Browser.  In short, it’s a great addition for regular Firefox users.
