Get Hooked on 'Sega Bass Fishing Challenge' this Fall
Calendar16 Wed, 31 Aug 2011 14:08:39 UTC +00:00
At a San Francisco preview event yesterday, Sega announced that they would be bringing their classic fishing franchise Sega Bass Fishing to iOS this Fall. Sega Bass Fishing originally launched in arcades back in 1998, but most people will likely remember it from its days as a Dreamcast launch title complete with wacky fishing rod-shaped controller. Since then, it’s been rereleased in various forms over the years, and – perhaps most appropriately – as a Wii title using the motion controlled Wiimote. The iOS version will be based on the 2009 arcade game Sega Bass Fishing Challenge, which was an updated version of the original, hence the “Challenge” in the title. The game is still at an incredibly early state, though it’s looking really nice so far. As with most fishing games, you’ll be able to cruise around the waters in your boat in various worldly locations, cast your line, and Read More

Go Flick Fishing With Your iPad In HD On Day One
Calendar16 Sun, 28 Mar 2010 18:49:52 UTC +00:00
Freeverse’s Flick Fishing has been a huge hit on the iPhone with over 1.5 million paid downloads, and they will be hoping to repeat that success with an iPad-optimized version titled Flick Fishing HD. Flick Fishing HD for the iPad will sport optimized graphics to fill in that large 1024×768 screen.  It will be packed with all of the same features the original title carried, including animated “living” environments, touch controlled reel, nine types of bait and tackle, 12 tournaments, dozens of different fish, and local multiplayer via Bluetooth or pass and play. Flick Fishing HD will also include the original game’s seven different fishing locations while throwing in the Private Beach Pack, which is normally $.99 as an in-app purchase for the iPhone version, and Fishing Pro Pack.  On top of that, the game will feature the ability to show off your latest catch via email and the in-game Postman postcard Read More
iPhone gaming giant Ngmoco is serious when it comes to the Apple iPad. The company plans to release a total of 6 titles right away at launch. The games that will be released are: GodFinger, We Rule, Flick Fishing, NBA Hotshot, CastleCraft and WarpGate. Those of you who follow the mobile gaming news carefully probably noticed that 4 out of 6 titles are Freeverse games — Ngmoco acquired Freeverse at the end of February, FYI. Ngmoco said it plans to bring the fremium model to Apple’s mobile platform, allowing some things to be free, whereas some others will be sold. We’ve no doubts Ngmoco knows what it’s doing. The question is not whether iPad will be as nearly as successful as the iPhone (the answer to that is “no”), the question is – whether Apple will be able to move enough units to reach the tipping point that will engage the Read More
Appular: From marketing/PR company to iPhone app publisher
Calendar16 Fri, 12 Mar 2010 10:43:03 UTC +00:00
Appular, which is a marketing and PR firm specialized in promoting iPhone titles, is taking the “publisher route.” What this means is that in some cases — when they like the application/game — they may act as a publisher and share the revenue generated from the app sales with the developer. As a result, their initial fees will be waived. To help with this plan, they brought former Freeverse CFO, Dino Decespedes, as their new Director of Publishing, on the heels of ngmoco’s purchase of Freeverse. Initially, he will be working with select developers by implementing proper business and marketing strategies, to go along with their app and game concepts. In case you wonder, Appular helped promote such iPhone apps as NPR News, Finger Physics, Simplenote, Flick Fishing, and many more. And now they are interesting in hearing from developers with upcoming apps and games, and will evaluate possible partnerships on Read More

As a followup to yesterday's inteview with ngmoco CEO Neil Young, this morning we spoke with Freeverse President Ian Lynch Smith to hear what the recent purchase of Freeverse by ngmoco means to them. The full audio is attached below, but here is a summary of the talk. Originally founded in 1994, Freeverse's earliest titles were Mac shareware games. They later branched out in to games for Windows, XBOX Live Arcade, and most recently the iPhone. Freeverse's was one of the few 3D games that launched with the App Store. Also immediately available were and . They then went on to release a catalog of great iPhone games, both developed in house and and by outside developers published by Freeverse. Since the surprise announcement yesterday of ngmoco's purchase of Freeverse, what we've all been wondering is what is going to change. Ngmoco has recently shifted gears to an entirely free to Read More
We were all pretty gobsmacked last night with the news that iPhone gaming developer Ngmoco had purchased longtime Mac game developer Freeverse, so we went hunting for answers. Fortunately, Freeverse CEO and founder Ian Lynch Smith was nice enough to sit down and take our questions this morning, and he provided a little more background and insight on the deal. The first thing we wanted to do was what would happen to Freeverse's extensive Mac catalog, and we were told conclusively that "it's not going anywhere at all." While Freeverse will still "sell and maintain" their Mac titles, Smith did tell us that they've "been pretty much exclusively focused on the iPhone for the last 18 months anyway," so while they have a legacy in the Mac, the company believes that OS X is "on a collision course with the iPad," and that the main opportunities and user bases for Mac Read More
Posted 02/23/2010 at 7:41am | by J.R. Bookwalter Ladies and gentlemen, the consolidation of iPhone gaming companies has begun! Will startup ngmoco be the Godzilla of App Store gaming? TechCrunch is reporting that iPhone game startup ngmoco has raised a $25 million series C round and taken its first step toward dominance in the App Store by acquiring Freeverse, creator of such popular games as Moto Chaser, Flick Bowling and Flick Fishing. The financing round was led by Institutional Venture Partners, with existing shareholders Kleiner Perkins, Norwest Venture Partners and Maples Investments also participating. That brings ngmoco’s total capital raised to $40.6 million -- which yet again proves that iPhone gaming is indeed nothing to sneeze at. ngmoco CEO Neil Young (not to be confused with the performer of the same name) claims that he wants to “amass enough scale to accelerate away from the pack,” and the swallowing up of Read More
Calendar16 Mon, 11 Jan 2010 00:03:50 UTC +00:00
This post was published ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding. I first downloaded this game because I have always wanted to try a virtual fishing game. I loaded it up, played it 2-3 minutes and said to myself, “eh… this sucks”. A couple days later, my daughter was playing it and I looked a little closer. After she was done, I fired it back up and ran my battery out playing it. For the next 2 days, I spent 4-5 hours in the game. I had to force myself to quit. :)   It’s pretty easy to get started if you want to play the game in a stand alone mode. Yes, you can play the game multiplayer on “Fish Net” too. The game is really simple to pick up, but they offer lots of instructions Read More
As indicated by yesterday’s Flurry analytics data, Christmas day was massively successful for iPhone app developers, but today, thanks to iTunes Connect finally being up and running as it should, developers are finally able to weigh-in on just how successful the big day was. According to TechCrunch, Doodle Jump was able to sell about 80,000 units on Christmas day while being ranked in the top five.  Freeverse’s Skee-Ball, which is currently the #1 paid app in the App Store but wasn’t on Christmas day, sold 47,926 units.  That’s reportedly 10x the sales from the previous Friday.  Freeverse’s other $.99 app, Flick Fishing, which currently sits at #16, sold 31,741 units on Christmas day. Those are just some examples of top-selling apps, but apparently apps located a bit lower on the chart still saw large increases in sales.  Taptivate’s Voices, another $.99 app, was sitting around the #44 spot on Christmas day Read More

Eliminate Breaks Into The Top 100 Grossing Apps List
Calendar16 Wed, 04 Nov 2009 18:41:05 UTC +00:00
Not too long ago, Freeverse decided to take a look at how in-app purchases affect the App Store’s Top Grossing Apps list.  After comparing the income and units sold of two of their top 100 apps, Flick Fishing and Top Gun, they were able to conclude that the Top Grossing Apps list does indeed take in-app purchases into account.  But if you were looking for more proof that the Top Grossing Apps list is serving its purpose, ngmoco has it for you.  Eliminate, the developer’s massively hyped first-person shooter for the iPhone and iPod touch, has entered the App Store’s Top Grossing Apps list even though it is available for free. Eliminate uses in-app purchases in a very unique way.  Instead of charging players for armor or weapon upgrades for their characters, they charge players for their time.  But players don’t have to pay to play, they can simply sit back Read More
The App Store’s Top Grossing Apps list was implemented during the launch of iTunes 9 with the intent to give higher priced apps that performed well some face time on the front page. Instead of going by units sold, the list goes by revenue. But with the recent change of policy regarding free apps and in-app purchases, some were wondering if the list factors in in-app purchase revenue. The fine folks at Freeverse were wondering this same thing, including if free apps could also make it into the Top Grossing Apps list via in-app purchases, and they seemed to have found their answer. Freeverse took a look at two of their games, Flick Fishing and Top Gun, both of which were ranked in the Top Grossing Apps list and the Top Paid Apps list at the time of their article and both were priced at $1.99.  Flick Fishing was ranked at Read More
OpenFeint introduces multiplayer, Flick Fishing goes Plus+
Calendar16 Thu, 03 Sep 2009 18:30:00 UTC +00:00
The battle of the social gaming services on the iPhone continues. OpenFeint's latest weapon is multiplayer -- they're working on a way for games developers on the iPhone to quickly include multiplayer (it doesn't actually say real-time, so we'll assume it's the mix of ghosting and turn-based multiplayer that they talked about in their interview with us) in their games. They're asking interested developers to sign up to the open beta program, and they'll start rolling out the functionality soon. Even though it seems early in the process, it's a pretty cool idea, and it could definitely serve to set OpenFeint apart even more from the other services trying to attract developers to their social and multiplayer features. Speaking of social features, Freeverse told us a little while ago that they were going to use ngmoco's Plus+ for their games, and apparently they've now integrated the popular Flick Fishing with the Read More

Dawgpound513 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
38/m/maryland I have all of the popular apps. Let's put it this way, I have no more room for apps... READ THIS....Dont think twice. Don't hesitate. This is up there with Field Runners. Best fish game for one. The realism is awesome. Play against other people, CPU, or a buddy. Email ur buddies to brag what u caught. Visually just amazing . The ocean waters physics alone give this a 5 star rating. The fishing pole moves. The sound is sweet. This is serious eye candy. Mystery fish can be had. Different bait to choose from. GREAT JOB DEVELOPERS!!! I wonder what the next update will bring. I can see myself coming back to this game over & over again. 5/5
GREAT GAME

Tom7072 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Feels like you are out there fishing on the water. The water movement is very smooth. I love this one, and if you have your stereo earphones in, it sounds, and feels like you are really there. Great sound, and excellent graphics.
Best fishin game ever

Extrordinary
Everett-Man 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.2
This game has the highest value of any 1$ app. It has so many different tournaments. With all the missions, this app will definately l last for a long time. It is. Just so you don't think I am somone with terrible eye in games I will say my favorite games: downhill bowling is kind of good. Iron man is kind of fun. Papi is pretty cool, air hocky is fun and Cube runner is simple but fun. Ps. This game is a lot better than pocket god. PSS. I am not even a fishing person and I love this.
Polished, well done!
GoDodgers!!!!!!!!! 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.2
The sound effects and graphics of this game give it an immersive experience. Group that with the extremely well designed gameplay and this fishing game is tough to beat. The introductory price of .99 cents cannot be beat. The production value is outstanding. Once again Freeverse proves you can develop high quality games for the iPhone without the incredibly high price. If only other developers would follow suit. Thanks Freeverse!
Best game ever

This game is sick and I hate fishing .
Best game on the iPhone.
deemaunik 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I had been enjoying the game the last couple days a lot. Animated waters, ducks, great fish imagery and animation. Even the atmospheric elements are great. The biggest fish tourneys only take a couple minutes, so if you're pressed for time, this is perfect. Not to memtion a pause function and bait selection. That, and what inspired me to review tonight is the fish tank mode. Something I didn't even know was there. Turn the phone on it's side outside of a tourney and you'll see it. A tank with what you've caught and your records. Perfect. I'd have paid ten for this. At one, it's an AMAZING deal.
Flick Fishing

Most fishing I've done in a years! This game is addictive. For .99 cents u can't go wrong. I would like to see other fish and more bait choices. Maybe another map of fishing spots u can work up 2! But for the price it's at it's an awsome game as is!
The real deal
Daemon Sith 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is the fishing app you want to play. Full 3d and water and fish and pole are all animated. The lure box even sways back and forth when on the choppy seas. Several locals ranging from pond to river to open ocean. Easy to select lures. Keeps track of your largest fish caught per species as well as tournament fish caught. Very well done and a steal for a buck. Screw Ifish this is the real deal and real work was done here to make a quality app. Great variety of fish and I am sure updates will add even more fish. I like how each fish you catch is in a little aquarium to display it with the size of the fish. Just well done and fun. Get it if you want a fun game and great value. You will regret it if you pass and it goes up in price. Get this on the top board and get that trash Ifish off of there. Nuff said.
This is the best fishing game.
