5 tips for a more social iPhone on Social Media Day
Calendar16 Thu, 30 Jun 2011 15:28:49 UTC +00:00
Thursday is Social Media Day, so in honor of that, I’d like to offer a few tips about making your iPhone a more social device. It’d be easy to just say “register as a developer and install iOS 5,” since that brings Twitter integration, but here are some options that don’t cost $99 and involve using pre-release software on your primary device. This is actually a tip for your Mac, but it makes it much easier to share photos to Facebook and Flickr if you set up Events in iPhoto ’11 that you can dump content to in bulk. Using uploading apps on the iPhone itself usually works best if you’re only doing one photo at a time, and if you’re on vacation, that can get annoying very fast. Connecting your social accounts in iPhoto will make it much easier to create organized albums on Facebook and Flicker with only a Read More
40 Ways the iPhone Can Improve Your Day
Calendar16 Mon, 04 Oct 2010 20:36:46 UTC +00:00
Posted 10/04/2010 at 12:36pm | by Andrew Hayward Each new iPhone has offered fresh and fantastical ways to improve your daily life, but the epic tag-team of the iPhone 4 and iOS 4 deliver the greatest set of tools and features to date. With the introduction of FaceTime video calls, multitasking, and the high resolution Retina display, the iPhone 4 has moved even further away from being just a powerful phone and web-surfing device. Now more than ever, the iPhone is a true lifestyle-enhancing accessory. Between the built-in features and the hundreds of thousands of options in the App Store, not to mention a few key accessories, the iPhone 4 can be figuratively formed and changed to fit your daily needs, whether you’re planning your daily commute, knocking out items on your to-do list, or simply looking to try a new restaurant. With this wide-ranging versatility in mind, we’ve come up Read More
Homescreens – August 2010
Calendar16 Mon, 16 Aug 2010 11:59:02 UTC +00:00
Read More

By Rene Ritchie, Thursday, Mar 11, 2010 | Tapped on App Store and what did I see? Updates for Tweetie, Loopt, Foursquare, and Flickr — and a couple of those say iPhone OS 3.2 (aka iPad) right there in the What’s New listing. (Yeah, that doesn’t mean 3.2 is coming to the iPhone or these are 1024×768 versions, likely just that they’re built using that SDK for maximum blackboxing on the iPad). Tweetie [$2.99 - iTunes link] has just hit version 2.1.1 and brings iPhone OS 3.2 compatibility(!), Foursquare (4sq.com) integration, Vodpod video uploads, Post ‘message’ parameter to TwitPic, and Instapaper Mobilizer. See our previous Tweetie coverage for more on the app. Loopt [Free - iTunes link] expands the product’s Pulse feature to include tens of thousands of local events, and allows check-in to events, public Tips, and the ability to RSVP to events posted on Facebook. Leider kann Read More

Across 11 categories, we’ve selected the best apps of the year. In every category, each winner is an essential addition to your iPhone. This is the ultimate roundup of essential apps for your iPhone from 2009. The sequel to 2008′s Rolando expands on the tilt ‘n’ swipe platforming action of the original. This time round, we’re brought an entire troupe of colorful Rolando characters to protect, alongside a tropical island inhabited by new baddies and a lost Rolando tribe. The artwork is gorgeous, the gameplay is excellent and, thanks to NGMoco’s Plus+ awards system, it’s got bags of replay value too. Flickr has updated its iPhone app “ and ticked off a few fairly obvious wish list items with some of the new features in Version 1.1.  The update ‘s details page lists these changes: I updated last night and have to say I ‘m disappointed with the multi-photo upload feature “ as it does not let you select multiple images all at once in a photo library.  Instead you have to use the ‘Add Item ‘ button from the Details page.  Several other photo apps I ‘ve used allow for multiple selections within the library “ so this is a dumb miss in my view. Still, I ‘m glad to see Flickr adding features “ and hope they will improve the multi-photo upload in a future update.  You can find this latest version of the Flickr app in the App Store now, and it is a free app. Read More

Weekly App Store Picks: November 21, 2009
Calendar16 Sat, 21 Nov 2009 17:00:44 UTC +00:00
Another week passing means another batch of fresh apps pop out of the Apple approval oven and land in the App Store. As ever, I’ve selected four of the best from this week’s releases for you to check out. My top pick for this week is TimeTuner, an absolutely essential clock radio app for just about anyone who uses an alarm clock. Plus, I’ve also been looking at WorkSnug, Harbor 3D and AutoStitch. The iPhone Clock app does a valiant job of waking me up, but sometimes even Apple’s own apps need a bit of jazzing up. Enter TimeTuner, a gorgeous alarm clock app with a chic, ever-so-slightly ’80′s style. The app includes a glowing green LED clock, alongside a customizable radio tuner. Even without the alarm clock functionality, the radio tuner alone is a powerful app, certainly worth more than a couple of bucks. Powered by Radio Time, the tuner Read More

Weekly App Store Picks: September 26, 2009
Calendar16 Sat, 26 Sep 2009 16:00:19 UTC +00:00
As another week draws to a close, the App Store expands even further with a torrent of new toys and tools. As ever, I’ve hand-picked four recent iPhone releases for you to take a look at. This week I’ve given our picks a creative vibe, selecting four different apps that let you engage with your artistic and cultural side. My top pick for the week is Xewton Music Studio, plus I’ve been looking at Snapture, GraffitiGeo and McSweeney’s. Armed with an iPhone, there’s never been so much choice for making music on the move. Despite all the choice, the recording app I keep coming back to is FourTrack. It’s a fully-featured 4 track recorder, complete with bouncing, panning, metronome and Wi-Fi sharing. When it comes to full on audio sequencing and sketching out bigger ideas, I head for Intua’s BeatMaker. The app costs twenty bucks, but for producers it’s definitely worth Read More

Free Reign: Free Apps Roundup #12
Calendar16 Sun, 20 Sep 2009 20:56:14 UTC +00:00
It’s actually getting tougher and tougher to find decent, free applications on the App Store with the flood of LITE and FREE versions of retail applications. I’d really like to see some sort of dividing line so that Lite versions would just go away to their own section to be demos, and the free apps would stick in their own section and just be free and amazing (or not). Those minor hassles aside, the lack of more specific "free" sections in the App Store hasn’t stopped Patrick and myself from picking out a few choice selections. Word Scramble 2 by Zynga Concept: Fast-paced word scramble / word forming game with options to play solo, against random groups of online opponents, or challenge friends.  Not sure why this is a separate app to the original Word Scramble by Zynga, instead of just an update – but hey, they’re both free and both Read More

Quick Look: Official Flickr App for iPhone
Calendar16 Sat, 12 Sep 2009 16:28:16 UTC +00:00
Well .. it ‘s taken quite a while, but we finally have an official Flickr app for the iPhone. There have been plenty of Flickr apps around for the iPhone since even before the App Store opened, but now we have one from Yahoo (owners of Flickr) themselves, and it ‘s a pretty good one. This new Flickr app does a very good job in most places, but is also lacking in a few areas.  The app looks gorgeous, throughout its pages “ and is especially good for enjoying and discovering photos from your contacts and throughout Flickr. When you first launch it, you get an extremely slick slideshow of photos that uses some neat transition effects. Navigation throughout the app “ which admittedly does not have very many sections “ is simple and completely intuitive.  If you ‘re in the mood for browsing photos, you can search throughout all Flickr Read More

The Beatles may not have arrived in the iTunes Music Store just yet, but it’s not all disappointing news: the App Store has been updated with a new look and a stack of new iPhone apps have been released. As ever, here are my picks from the latest additions. My top pick for this week is Hitchcock, plus I’ve also checked out Newsstand, Blades of Fury and Rhapsody. Hitchcock ($19.99) There’s a fantastic range of apps on offer to budding iPhone-based photographers at the moment. Tools such as QuadCamera and ColorSplash make for fun and effective photo-enhancing toys, and, once you’re done touching up your latest masterpiece, you can share your photography on Flickr via their official app. For folk who want to take their photography a step further and start dabbling in film, Hitchcock has arrived. Photo sharing Flickr app appears in App Store
Calendar16 Fri, 11 Sep 2009 15:55:08 UTC +00:00
Yahoo’s Flickr service now has a native app available in the App Store. The iPhone has become the most popular cell phone camera used to upload photos to the image sharing site and it’s likely this new native app will only increase its popularity among Flickr users. When you first sign in to the Flickr app, you are required to authorize the app to use your Flickr account, which is done through Safari on the iPhone. After this, uploads to your Flickr account will be handled directly through the app with no further authorization requests (another plus for those who upload on the run). The app can geotag your photos and offers immediate access to your recent uploads, your entire Flickr stream, and those of your Flickr contacts, making it multi-functional and flexible. The Flickr app is free and can be found in the Store right now. Posted on Sep 11th, Read More

Finally! Some improvements and bugfixes needed
_arvind 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great to see an official app. This is a well-designed, fun app. Great visual presentation (love the zoomy home screen), clean & simple interface. But: - it's SLOW, and seems to slow down more and more with use. Commenting takes forever - it focuses purely on one's network - so you can't explore the global 'interesting' set, for instance - no groups! Though group activity appears in the 'recent' section
About time!
Curb Stompin' 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Finally an official app!...Nice clean, easy to navigate user interface. Pros: 1) Landscape mode. 2) Two views, thumbnail and thumbnail with picture title. 3) Ability to email picture. 4) Search Cons: 1) Can't delete a picture. 2) Can't delete comments. 3) Can't zoom in or out of a picture. 4) Can't edit tags or picture title. 5) Can only email one picture at a time. 6) Can't save pictures from the app to iPhone/iPod touch photo's. All in all a nicely done app, just needs the above added.
No Photo Properties
TxcftSerfbn 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great app but uploads from my library don't show any photo properties like the fact that the pic was taken by the iPhone!
Just in time!
Rabby! 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Just in time for the new iPod touches with cameras

Disappointing

Really excited about the iPhone app. It's a great start! I love it so far, but here are the things that need work:
A good start
woyouwenti 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Not enough functionality to be useful. But it will get there I hope. Like the contacts list.
Flickr v1.0
Sam Garmon 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great UI. Photo thumbnails load quickly with 3G in Chicago.
Great App!!!
Shawn Lane 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I have been waiting for Flickr to release an official iPhone app. It works great and uploading photo's is so easy.
pnac_spirit 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Clean and too simple
Anaisethenry 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
With such a beautiful homepage, displaying zoomed images from other users, one expects more our of the app. I could not find easily upload, delete or edit my pictures. Hopefully a new version will fix this, because it is a great start for an app! Can't wait to use it.
Disappointing as of right now
LovelyBlue27 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Was very excited about this app only to be let down. Hard. I have YET to be able to upload a photo from my library OR to take a shot. The app crashes every time. It's great to see your photos and the presentation is nice. I didn't see the option to "Tweet" your photo like some 3rd party apps which was also disappointing. Needs work but I have high hopes.
Love it
Petemandik 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Finally!!
Flickr
Snakeyes 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Images look amazing on the iPhone. Functionality is excellant. A perfect marriage.
Good job but still needs work
scottfillmer 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Liked the overall interface but don't like that you have to leave the app to sign in, much better than not having the app at all though.
Great App... Now, when can we upload at full resolution, AT&T?
FluffTheBunny 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Fantastic user experience. Worthless uploading. There's no way to upload pictures at full resolution.
Very attractive but slow
nskboy 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
It looks amazing. Specially first screen with changing photos. But its interface is slow. Please, fix it :-)
Fantastic
bfishadow 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Here it goes. Flickr on iPod touch now! The photo sharing site is my favorite web 2.0 site. Since Facebook has it's client on iPhone and almost every mobile platform, why Yahoo's flickr is missing? This app is not just another version optimized for mobile phone. This is a whole new design for flickr addicts. You can do so much kore than flickr's mobile web: geo tagging, instant photo sharing, full control of photos... Thanks Yahoo. I didn't waste these two years waiting. This app rocks!
Como debía ser
[martiin] 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great potential
tonydolor 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Love what it can do, however, can't see my entire photo stream, can't really "explore interestingness", and no help file... But it's a new app so i would expect improvements would be coming...
Finally
Hiv0ltg13 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Been waiting for the official app forever. The interface is very nice. Only tested on wifi so far, so the pictures are loading pretty fast. Cons: - ability to explore recent/interesting photos would be nice. - crashed twice when trying to navigate back to the set when looking at a photo inside of that set. (using a 1st Gen. iPhone running OS 3.0) - ability to zoom in when looking at a photo full screen!!! Very surprised this wasn't a feature.
Finally
tfsw 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Good stuff.
Has potential

Early bug i noticed is that it does not load ALL of my sets. It preloads a certain amount then there is no way to request it to load additional sets. Aside from that (which is huge). the interface is easy enough to navigate, but leaving out the bells and whistles still makes for better apps out there to access my work on Flickr currently.
Simple, fast and clear

This is a good example of an iPhone app, fast, intuitive and well organized.
What's the point?

When the online version of Flickr is better than the iPhone app you've got to wonder what's the point to even developing the app.
Where's 'Interestingness'!?
Sheeple Herder 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Polished first attempt at an 'official' Flickr app but lacking MANY options/features. Most importantly Interestingness! Why was it left out?? Where are options to enlarge photos!? This app has a ways to go...
